Adobe reader 9 freezes IE 8 tabs

I down loaded the latest version of Adobe Reader 9.  When I open a new tab in Internet Explorer 8 and try to close that tab it freezes IE 8 and I have to end the task with Alt-Ctrl-Delete keys.  What is wrong with this program?

Thanks for your help everyone. All your replies were much appreciated, however I have now solved this myself. If you want to know how then that's my little secret although what I DO know is that Adobe Reader 9.1 really is the worst Adobe yet and I've had enough Adobe problems ever since I've had my pc, I can tell you. It's just a shame that the people who are employed to dream up these scams that will work for some but not all can't go and work in Macdonalds or somewhere, or if counting money is too difficult then maybe outside Macdonalds picking up the litter, and leave the more technical work to those competent enough to do it.
Thanks for another problem, Adobe. Sorry to disappoint you but I've managed to solve it although I'm sure your geeks are thinking of something right now that will be even more difficult to correct.
I've given my opinion of Adobe Reader 9.1 on Cnet. One star out of five because it wouldn't allow me to put zero.

Try if it works better after disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].

  • Adobe Reader Freezes after reinstallation

I was having trouble with Adobe Reader freezing while I was using it on an older Windows XP computer. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe reader. After reinstallation, the reader could not open existing pdf documents and froze quickly. I tried unstalling Adobe Reader and installing an earlier version. The earlier version had the same symptons.
    Any suggestions?

You can try using this tool to first remove all traces of Reader from your computer:
    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Then, you can download the full offline Reader installer from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else.

  • Adobe Reader Freezes

adobe reader 10.1.3 freezes when trying to open a 2nd file. This is a new install of Win7 64 bit and AR 10.1.3.
What's up? Is there a a 64 bit version? Help shows version 10.1.3.23 is this a 32 or 64 bit version?
    Thanks,
    StuKuz

Adobe Reader is still only a 32-bit application; there is no 64-bit version.  Hopefully some day they will get around to that...
Sorry, I do not know about the freezing; it does not happen on my 64-bit Win 7 system.  When you open Task Manager, do you see AcroRd32.exe using high CPU in the Processes tab?
Freezing usually indicates that the application is waiting for some resources; Process Monitor can help to pinpoint what resource it is waiting for.  However, it can be quite time-consuming to watch and find out what exactly is going on.

  • Adobe Reader freezes all browsers when opening a url to a PDF containing form fields...

There is an issue we are currently experienceing with Adobe Acrobat 9 (updated to the latest version) where ALL BROWSERS (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome and Safari) on each of two different systems (a MacBook Pro with Mac OSX Leopard and a Sony Vaio Laptop with Windows Vista) where the application will freeze up and crash the browser when we view a .pdf file from a url if the .pdf file iteself contains form fields.
At first I though it may have been specific to Mac OSX and this MacBook we were trying to view the document on, but the same issue is now occuring with a new Sony Vaio laptop (running Windows Vista) as well.
It seems like it is able to open .pdf documents containing form fields when they are stored locally, but when trying to access them via a url, the program will freeze up.  Sometimes it will eventually work if you had previously opened a .pdf prior to opening it via the url link and sometimes it doesn't.  And it seems to only be related to .pdfs containing fillable form fields (others open fine when accessing them by a url)
Obviously it's become quite irratating and I'm hopeing I can find some insight on this support forum as to what may be causing this issue.
Previous versions of Acrobat (installed on the MacBook) opened this very same .pdf file (url) fine before upgrading to version 9.
Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

  • Adobe Reader Freeze Problem!!!

Why does a pdf document freeze everytime I open a it with adobe reader?

    What OS?
Opening in a browser or Reader itself?

  • Adobe Reader freezes after opening a document

It's a recurrent problem with Adobe Reader.
Shortly after opening a document, Reader freezes for several seconds. Who knows why, it probably accesses the network, or tries to do something smart, which results in the user being unable to read the document for a while.
I have tried to disable as many "smart" options as I could, but without success. Could anyone work around this endless Adobe Reader bug?
I must admit I'm tired of this monster of a program, why can't Adobe keep the Reader a light application, instead of throwing all those unnecessary functions, ads and other uglinesses ... ?

    Hi MB_UK,
Please update your Reader to latest version, i.e.10.1.3
Also does the problem exist with a specific PDF's or with each PDF. Please try to open the following PDF:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/content/dam/help/attachments/Acrobat_Reader_ReleaseNote_10.1.3.pdf
What browser and version are you using?
If the problem still exists please uninstall Adobe Reader and install it again from:

  • Adobe Reader freezes when attempting to load weblink.api

Every time Adobe Reader (11.0.04) opens with weblink.api, it freezes up and is unusable. We have completely uninstalled and reinstalled this program and it is having the same issue. Windows 7 x64. If we disable the plugin, it opens fine, but we cannot get the print dialogue to come up. Does anyone know how to repair this issue?

Thanks we will try that today.

  • Adobe reader freezing

So I have been lurking around the forums looking for a fix....
Here's what's going on, as some of the other posts are saying when you open adobe reader 11 (07,08,09). It will freeze (not responding) for about 5 minutes, then starts working normally. I have done the unchecking of the enabled mode, verified that it was in there looking at the registry. I have also changed the file history down to 1 as that is also one of the popular fixes. What does fix it however, is to install version 11.0 (base). As soon as you updated back to 09 it starts freezing again. I have a lot of people that this is happening to, now the only thing in common between them is the OS. They are all running windows 7 64bit.
Any assistance on this would be great, I have been battling it for a while now.

well, after the 09 update and it broke every single reader in the organization, I figured out what was causing the 5 minute hang. It seems that reader now connects to the adobe cloud. And in places that have firewall restrictions will have this blocked. So instead of reader just opening, it kept banging at the firewall for about 5-7 minutes, during that time reader is completely frozen. This seems a bit silly to freeze a program because it can't connect to the cloud. After allowing the connection through it was working normally.
    Adobe,
Why does the program completely freeze because they cannot connect to the cloud? Is there a way to disable this so we can lock it down again?
    Thanks,
    Justin

    Hi,
Thanks for using Adobe Reader. Sorry to hear that you are facing problem in printing from Adobe Reader. We will certainly help you out here but will need some of your help in triaging the issue so that Engineering can reproduce it in house. After that only we will be able to address the issue.

    2. If you already on latest version, please let us know if you started getting this issue recently (with 11.0.10 update) or you were seeing this issue earlier as well.
    3. Are you seeing this issue with some specific pdfs or any pdf in general? I mean have you ever able to print any pdf so far using Reader, For investigation, please attach PDF file, or you may share your email id for communication
    4. please specify the OS platform(32 or 64 bit ) details ?
    5. Printer details( Brand- Model and driver details), and also please check the behavior While using or other printers (if available) to give a Print ?

  • Adobe Reader freezes up.

I have a user and only him, were if he receives an pdf as an email attachment, he can not print by just clicking the print icon in adobe reader. If he selects file then print it prints fine. This only happens when a pdf is sent to him as an email attachment. He opens other pdf files on the network or any other removable storage and has not had issues at all printing these documents. I have also created a new profile for the user and this did not resolve the issue. Any suggestions.

I know you posted this a long time ago, but I am having the same exact issue.  Did you ever find a fix for this besides rebuilding the PC?

  • Adobe Reader Freeze

Why is Adobe Reader preventing me from shutting down my computer?

    I have a Mac OS X, Version 10.6.8
When I try to shut down my computer, a window pops up that reads: "The application Adobe Reader cancelled shutdown."
Also, when I try to quit Adobe Reader, I get a message that reads: "There was an error opening this document. Acrobat cannot open this file while printing another document." (I'm not printing anything).

    Dear all,
We experience a problem with Adobe Reader X.
Some users, after opening a pdf, they choose "Save as" and when they click on the drop down arrow, that contains the save locations on the local PC, Adobe Reader freezes and we have to use task manager to end the process.

    Do you have any ideas?
