Adobe Reader 9 freezes in IE7 Vista 64

I have a problem using Adobe Reader 9 with Vista 64. I am using the 32 bit version of IE7. Every time I click on a pdf to open in IE7 the screen remains white without starting Adobe Reader 9 in IE7 browser window.
Using Adobe Reader independantly works without any problem. Only the IE7 plugin does not seem to work. I reinstalled Adobe Reader 9 but without any effect. Adobe Reader 8 works. How comes?

Thanks for your help everyone. All your replies were much appreciated, however I have now solved this myself. If you want to know how then that's my little secret although what I DO know is that Adobe Reader 9.1 really is the worst Adobe yet and I've had enough Adobe problems ever since I've had my pc, I can tell you. It's just a shame that the people who are employed to dream up these scams that will work for some but not all can't go and work in Macdonalds or somewhere, or if counting money is too difficult then maybe outside Macdonalds picking up the litter, and leave the more technical work to those competent enough to do it.
Thanks for another problem, Adobe. Sorry to disappoint you but I've managed to solve it although I'm sure your geeks are thinking of something right now that will be even more difficult to correct.
I've given my opinion of Adobe Reader 9.1 on Cnet. One star out of five because it wouldn't allow me to put zero.

I have Adobe Reader X in Windows Vista. Why doesn't the Adobe PDF show up as a printer in my Hardware/Printers? Or can I add it to the Hardware/Printers? And how?

Adobe Reader - FREE - reads PDF files, prints them, fills forms.
Adobe Acrobat - $$ - as Reader, and makes PDFs and edits them, sorta, and does a bunch more.
So if you had Acrobat try and find the license to avoid having to pay again...

  • Adobe Reader Freezes after reinstallation

I was having trouble with Adobe Reader freezing while I was using it on an older Windows XP computer. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe reader. After reinstallation, the reader could not open existing pdf documents and froze quickly. I tried unstalling Adobe Reader and installing an earlier version. The earlier version had the same symptons.
    Any suggestions?

You can try using this tool to first remove all traces of Reader from your computer:
    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Then, you can download the full offline Reader installer from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else.

  • Adobe Reader freezes all browsers when opening a url to a PDF containing form fields...

There is an issue we are currently experienceing with Adobe Acrobat 9 (updated to the latest version) where ALL BROWSERS (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome and Safari) on each of two different systems (a MacBook Pro with Mac OSX Leopard and a Sony Vaio Laptop with Windows Vista) where the application will freeze up and crash the browser when we view a .pdf file from a url if the .pdf file iteself contains form fields.
At first I though it may have been specific to Mac OSX and this MacBook we were trying to view the document on, but the same issue is now occuring with a new Sony Vaio laptop (running Windows Vista) as well.
It seems like it is able to open .pdf documents containing form fields when they are stored locally, but when trying to access them via a url, the program will freeze up.  Sometimes it will eventually work if you had previously opened a .pdf prior to opening it via the url link and sometimes it doesn't.  And it seems to only be related to .pdfs containing fillable form fields (others open fine when accessing them by a url)
Obviously it's become quite irratating and I'm hopeing I can find some insight on this support forum as to what may be causing this issue.
Previous versions of Acrobat (installed on the MacBook) opened this very same .pdf file (url) fine before upgrading to version 9.
Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

  • Installing Adobe Reader for Palm on Vista

I run as a standard account on Vista Ultimate. The installer needs admin privileges so that it can update c:\Program Files. As a result, the installer ran under my administrative account. When it shut down, updated the Hotsync conduit and restarted Hotsync, Hotsync was running under my admin account. This means that all Hotsync data ended up in the wrong user directory structure. Also, the conduit was looking in the wrong place for PDFs to be uploaded to the Palm. Restarting Hotsync under my standard account did not work - the Adobe Reader conduit did not show up in my Hotsync settings.
The solution was to change my standard account to have administrative privileges. I also installed Adobe Reader for Palm to a different directory, rather than under c:\Program Files - I am not sure this is required but has been recommended for other applications that are not Vista-compliant. The Hotsync conduits were properly updated this time but would not automatically restart - a manual restart was successful. I was then successfully able to sync PDFs.

  • Adobe Reader 9.1 and Vista SP2?

    Hi,
I've just got a new Vista laptop and after installing Vista SP2 I'm noticing the following error in the event log every time I use Adobe Reader 9.1.3
Faulting application AcroRd32.exe, version 9.1.0.163, time stamp 0x49a88f00, faulting module ole32.dll, version 6.0.6002.18005, time stamp 0x49e037d7, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x000472da, process id 0x16b0, application start time 0x01ca14dc9c5fc7b6.
I've tried uninstalling 9.1 and trying 8.1 and I get the following:
Faulting application AcroRd32.exe, version 8.1.0.137, time stamp 0x46444e37, faulting module ole32.dll, version 6.0.6002.18005, time stamp 0x49e037d7, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x000472da, process id 0x1368, application start time 0x01ca147a1856608f.
I can't find any other related errors or DEP warnings to explain what could have happened to both versions, so wondering whether its related to SP2 as I can't find any reference on Adobe.com to Reader 9.1 supporting SP2 only SP1.
    Thanks for any advice,
    Rob

  • Adobe Reader freezes after opening a document

It's a recurrent problem with Adobe Reader.
Shortly after opening a document, Reader freezes for several seconds. Who knows why, it probably accesses the network, or tries to do something smart, which results in the user being unable to read the document for a while.
I have tried to disable as many "smart" options as I could, but without success. Could anyone work around this endless Adobe Reader bug?
I must admit I'm tired of this monster of a program, why can't Adobe keep the Reader a light application, instead of throwing all those unnecessary functions, ads and other uglinesses ... ?

    Hi MB_UK,
Please update your Reader to latest version, i.e.10.1.3
Also does the problem exist with a specific PDF's or with each PDF. Please try to open the following PDF:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/content/dam/help/attachments/Acrobat_Reader_ReleaseNote_10.1.3.pdf
What browser and version are you using?
If the problem still exists please uninstall Adobe Reader and install it again from:
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/

Every time Adobe Reader (11.0.04) opens with weblink.api, it freezes up and is unusable. We have completely uninstalled and reinstalled this program and it is having the same issue. Windows 7 x64. If we disable the plugin, it opens fine, but we cannot get the print dialogue to come up. Does anyone know how to repair this issue?

  • Adobe Reader XI et Windows Vista?

    Bonjour,
Pourquoi la version française de Adobe Reader XI ne peut être installée avec le système Windows Vista, mais peut l'être sur Windows XP, poutant plus ancien?
    Merci!

Vista does not support Reader XI or Acrobat XI; both products have not been tested/certified for Vista.
Windows XP (SP3) is still very much used in the business community, but I expect the next version of Acrobat/Reader may no longer support XP either.

  • Adobe reader freezing

So I have been lurking around the forums looking for a fix....
Here's what's going on, as some of the other posts are saying when you open adobe reader 11 (07,08,09). It will freeze (not responding) for about 5 minutes, then starts working normally. I have done the unchecking of the enabled mode, verified that it was in there looking at the registry. I have also changed the file history down to 1 as that is also one of the popular fixes. What does fix it however, is to install version 11.0 (base). As soon as you updated back to 09 it starts freezing again. I have a lot of people that this is happening to, now the only thing in common between them is the OS. They are all running windows 7 64bit.
Any assistance on this would be great, I have been battling it for a while now.

well, after the 09 update and it broke every single reader in the organization, I figured out what was causing the 5 minute hang. It seems that reader now connects to the adobe cloud. And in places that have firewall restrictions will have this blocked. So instead of reader just opening, it kept banging at the firewall for about 5-7 minutes, during that time reader is completely frozen. This seems a bit silly to freeze a program because it can't connect to the cloud. After allowing the connection through it was working normally.
    Adobe,
Why does the program completely freeze because they cannot connect to the cloud? Is there a way to disable this so we can lock it down again?
    Thanks,
    Justin
