Adobe Reader 9 Linux GUI problems
Hi!
I've been using Linux Mint 8 since October 2009. Before that I was using Debian Lenny. I'm trying to use Adobe Reader 9.3 for working with multiple pdf documents. I've run into some problems that didn't seem to exist when I was using it on Lenny (although it was also using Adobe Reader 9.1, so I'm not sure where the problem lies). Here are the problems...
If I have a large number of pdf's open in tabs, I can view one, but to print, I have to click once somewhere in the toolbar before the print button works - essentially I have to click twice to activate the print button. After that, I cannot activate another tab until I first click somewhere on the document window. Between all these clicks, the mouse pointer is switching back and forth between the nice and smooth Linux mouse pointer, and the ugly and pixelly pointer that Reader uses for some reason. Finally, if I have more tabs open than fit in the width of the window, clicking on the left or right arrows that scroll the tabs scrolls all the way to the very last or very first tab. It will not just move over by one tab. If there is a really, really long list of tabs, I cannot get to the ones in the middle.
Anyone have a solution for this? I cannot use Evince or other Linux-based pdf viewers due to the startling lack of tab support (really should be a common thing by now, in my opinion). I just don't want to have to juggle tons of windows.
Thanks!
I am not fully familiar with Mint, but it is based on Ubuntu ..
Update to the latest version of Adobe Reader, and re-check these issues.
TO UPDATE
Check in Synaptic that the 'partner' software repository is enabled.
At terminal type:
(if required) update your system
~: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade <Enter>
install latest Acrobat Reader (for Ubuntu Linux), AND font packs
~: sudo apt-get install acroread acroread-fonts <Enter>
Then look for Adobe Reader in the applications menu (top left of screen).

Hi guidolal,
Are you facing the issue with any pdf's on the Mac.
Have you tried downloading a sample pdf like any Adobe help file from the website and then check if you are able to launch it fine via Reader?
Regards,
Rave

Spanish translation on adobe reader Linux
Hi,
I am a sysadmin on a Spanish Council. We are using Linux three years ago. We started with adobe reader 8 in spanish, but now we have adobe reader 9.3 on 300 pcs, in English of course. Our users have problems with that.
There is a translation in german, but there isn't in Spanish, spoken by 400 million people. If Linux is not a priority, could you explain a way to make our own translation? Could you provide a older translation compatible with acroread 9?
And what about Reader X?
ThanksWell, I will try to explain a bit better.
Adobe Reader X and 9 shows a top bar with information about the document it's signed and the signature it's ok.
In the body of the document it's one object with information related to the signature as this image:
On Reader 9 it automatically changed to Signature Verified without touching nothing. On Reader X we need to press on this object to verify the signature another time and to change this object text to Signature Verified.
Someone knows how to work as Reader 9 did ?
Thanks for reading. -
Adobe Reader X creates problems w/coldfusion pdf forms
Ever since I upgraded to Adobe Reader X, I can not open any of my odf forms on my webapp. these forms were designed with Acrobat Pro 8.0 and are prepopulated by coldfusion server. When I browse to one since upgrade, I get the following message:
To view the full contents of this document, you need a later version of the PDF viewer. You can upgrade
to the latest version of Adobe Reader from www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
Obviously, I have the latest version and Acrobat 8 and Acrobat 9 readers both worked. Is there an easy work around or a way to get rid of Acrobat X and go back?Could you please try turning off reader X protected mode and check if you continue to see the problem?
You could turn off protected mode using following steps:
1. Launch Reader X and select Edit->Preferences...
2. Select General from left navigation
3. Under application startup uncheck "Enable Protected Mode at Startup"
Note: You should switch "ON" protected mode after verifying the problem. Purpose of Reader X Protected Mode is to keep your system safe from PDF based exploits and keeping protected mode OFF will leave your system vulnerable. -
Adobe Reader is causing problems in Windows 7
Good morning all,
I have been doing some digging on this one and have had no joy so far. We are deploying Windows 7 in our office and I have one user, and only one who is having problems.
They had Adobe Reader X installed and they began to have problems with it after they were upgraded to WIN 7. When they went to print a PDF it started to lock their PC for 3-5 minutes after which they were able to continue with their work.
This behavior is internmittent in that it does not happen with every PDF and typically only happens once a day. Some times it is the first PDF of the day, sometimes in the middle of the day, but once it happens it does not happen again in the same day. Sometimes the user does not experience the problem for several days. We have been unsuccessful in determining any pattern or any particular in which this users machine is environmentally different from any other users machine.
No other users are experiencing this problem.
The user has a laptop and shuts it down to take home each night and starts the box fresh in the office each day.
Lately this behavior has extended to when the user just opens a PDF. Their laptop will freeze for 3-5 minutes and then they can continue with their work.
Based upon a very few articles we have found on the subject, we have tried a couple of things without success:
We have tried clearing the Adobe Reader cache
We have uninstalled Reader X and replaced it with Reader 9x
We are hoping that someone out there who has seen something like this before and can suggest some environmental or proceedural thing that we have missed. This one is driving us crazy.
Thanks in advance for any help.
SteveOoops! Sorry about thts...moving now.

Adobe Reader, Telnet Hyperlink Problem
Hi, I met a telnet Hyperlink Problem in Adobe Reader.
When click the Hyperlink (like telnet://a.b.c.d), Adobe reader gives me a Alert:
Acrobat does not allow connection to: telnet://a.b.c.d
And I also need to open this telnet hyperlink in web browser with Adobe reader plugin.
Would you please give me some help?Acrobat and Adobe Reader recently closed off access to custom protocols. Telnet is a standard protocol, but I can't see Adobe leaving it working.

Adobe Reader XI Installation Problem
I just performed a fresh reload of Windows XP SP3 on one of my computers. After downloading and running the installer for Adobe Reader XI I get the following error pop up:
Internet Explorer Script Error
An Error has occurred in the script on this page.
Line: 1
Char: 10570
Error: 'ActionLaunchReader' is undefined.
Code: 0
URL: http://127.0.0.1:2469/app/_js/adobe.js
Again I am running Windows XP SP3 with all the patches applied, JRE 7u10 (set as the default for both IE and Firefox), and scripting is enabled in Internet Explorer. I get the exact same error when trying to install the latest version of Adobe Flash Player as well, however, Adobe Shockwave installed just fine.
I am new to this forum, so forgive me if this problem has been posted before. I did not find anything similar in a search. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Adobe Reader XI running problems
Just upgraded from Reader X to reader XI. Since upgrade each time I open a PDF file I get error message stating Adobe Reader has stopped working and will now close. It states you will be notified once a solution is available. This has been going on for days and am sick of it. Very tempted to delete XI and go back to version X. Version X ran beautifully. I am using an Acer notebook with 1 GB RAM and 250 GB hard drive as well as Windows 7 starter edition. Please advise. Thanks
PS The error message I get is "runtime error" and then the program closesThank you for your response Pat
1. It is not a malware issue. I ran Norton scan (full) on my system as i do each week. The computer is clean and free of malware.
2. This problem does not occur when i open Adobe XI by itself. It only happens when i open a PDF document (any PDF document) created In other words when I open adobe XI without opening any PDF file it opens up alright. As soon as i point to any PDF file and load the file into the Adobe XI reader the software crashes. I get a message from windows stating "runtime error" and something to the effect that Adobe XI encountered a problem and will be closing. It is very frustrating. I have been using adobe for years. As of the last upgrade X EVERYTHING RAN LIKE CLOCKWORK. Once i installed Adobe XI the problems began.
3. I will try some of your other suggestions and let you know. As I am a very busy person i do not have much time to mess with this. My hunch is that it is some type of bug with this particular version of Adobe XI. In the event i cannot fix the prblblem I will uninstall XI and go back to version X which ran like clockwork.
Thank you kindly. -
Adobe Reader Licence Agreement Problems
Having some problems accepting the agreement so I can view .PDF Files - which I unfortunately can't do at the moment. Everytime I load a document, or the program on it's own, I get this 'can't connect to internet explorer' page instead. So I have to click the x, and I ihave to quit Adobe Reader.
Please help?
(I've also included some pictures to help)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v488/Baby_K/02.jpgThe key thing to check first is whether you can visit the web using
Internet Explorer, since Adobe Reader is using it to display the
agreement.
If you can, try clicking more details and see if it will tell you the
URL it was visiting; try copying and pasting that into an IE window.
Does it work?

Adobe Reader X Printing Problem
I upgraded to 'X', am running Windows XP and have an HP LaserJet 4100N printer. I mostly print out sets of loan documents, average 100 pages per set, mixed legal and letter size pages. When I upgraded to Adobe Reader X, legal size pages were randomly not printing the bottom 1/3 or so of each page. Since I travel to have these docs signed, it created quite a problem for me when it first happened. I could print smaller batches (1-5 pages, legal size only) and it worked, but printing the whole set, mixed paper sizes, I continued to have this problem.
Luckily I had kept an installation for Adobe Reader 9, so I uninstalled 'X' and reinstalled '9'. voila - the problem disappeared.
But I am hoping someone from Adobe will read this and work on this problem.I can confirm this problem. Rolling back to version 9.4 fixes it.
One of my clients is a travel notary and ran into this issue today. All print settings were set up per Adobe's instructions at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/332/332720.html#main_Mixed_sizes when the problem occurred. We had recently upgraded to Reader X, and had never had the probem before. I eventually traced it to a problem in the new version. Uninstalling and installing version 9.4 fixed the issue. I cannot include the actual document due to privacy concerns, but I will include a screen shot that has been sanitized. -
Adobe Reader X highlighting problem
When I highlight text in Adobe Reader X, everything works fine until i close out the document and reopen it. Then all of the text i highlighted becomes pure yellow and completely blocks the words. I have tried changing the opaqueness or whatever and it works until i get back into the document, and it is solid yellow again..?
I can confirm this problem. Rolling back to version 9.4 fixes it.

Adobe reader - Open Office problem
I get the following error when I boot my computer:
Adobe Reader could not open 'Openoffice.org.3.2.lnk disabled' because it is either not supported or because the file has been damaged.
I have completely uninstalled openoffice including deleting the openoffice user data in C: > Users > owner > appdata >roaming
and re-insatalled openoffice. The error persits.
I have Abobe reader 9.4.0 on Win Vista Ultimate 64 bit sp2. The openoffice is 3.2.1
Does anyone have a suggestion to fix this?
Thanks
Frank CI found two copies of the file: openoffice.org.3.2.lnk disabled here C:\Users\Charlotte\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs and here C:\Users\Charlotte\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows One was dated Sept. 09 and the other was current. I deleted both files and the problem was resolved. I probably would have been successful had I only deleted the oldest file. The file was recreated upon open of opennoffice. Perhaps this may help others.
