Adobe Reader 9 won't open some files -- jp2klib.dll

I've had this problem for some time, and I think I've at least narrowed it down a bit. The problem is that some (but not all) PDF files cannot be opened in Adobe Reader 9.x on some computers, though they open fine on others. When you click on a problem file, or try to open it from within AR 9, the file may begin to display, but very quickly you get Windows' message "Adobe Reader 9.2 has encountered a problem and needs to close." AR then crashes; or rather, Windows shuts it down. The crash report gives the following basic information:
AppName: acrord32.exe AppVer: 9.2.0.124 ModName: jp2klib.dll
ModVer: 2.0.0.4526 Offset: 00032c0d
I tried copying a different version of jp2klib.dll that was on my computer, but that did not help.
This problem only occurs on my desktop, not on the laptop, so it seems to be due to some interaction between jp2klib.dll and a specific driver or piece of hardware.
Does anyone know of a solution to this problem?

There isn't any video acceleration. This is a pretty old computer. I've got a Samsung 912N flat-screen monitor, an HP DeskJet 6940 printer, an Epson Perfection 3170 scanner, an RCA cable modem, and a U.S. Robotics MAXg wireless router attached to it, as well as an ancient Compaq mouse and a Fellowes Glidepoint touchpad.

  • Adobe reader won't open PDF file

I have Adobe Reader 9 and Windows 8 on a Dell computer. When I try to open a PDF file from a website it sends me to my Library on my computer and won't open the file. If I try to open a PDF file from my Desktop, it opens OK. What can I do to fix this?

Do you use Firefox' own PDF viewer, or the Adobe Reader plugin?  See http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/pdf-browser-plugin-configuration.html

  • Adobe reader won't open pdf files

I was hoping someone can help. I have Windows XP, and I use Firefox as my web browser. I have installed Adobe Reader, and when I click on a pdf link, in the lower left field of the screen it reads as follows: 'connecting, waiting, stopped' it repeats this over, and over, and over. I eventually have to right click and save the link to the desktop, but this is becoming entirely too frustrating........I have since uninstalled Adobe, and re-installed it, but nothing changed. I even uninstalled Firefox and re-installed, but to no avail.
If anyone has a fix, I am open to your suggestions.
    Thank you.

    Jeff
    Have a look here:

it's probably an issue with the Firefox plugin for Adobe Reader.

  • Adobe Reader won't open

just posted a long question (1st time on this forum) & been sent here after creating a username - do I really need to re-type everything all over again or can someone there see it?
    just in case.....
Adobe Reader won't open - I eventually get a message saying there is no default mail client & telling me to run Outlook & set it as the default mail client (I'm not going to do that).  I then get a message saying that Adobe is not responding.  Uninstalled & re-installed & problem persists.

Since you mention Outlook, I assume that you are on Windows.  Here are some things to try...
Using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement
Can you open Adobe Reader by itself?  If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
If you cannot open Reader by itself, try to disable Protected Mode in the registry; download, unzip, then run the attached registry script
It could even be a malware issue; see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/reader-core-dll-error.html

There are multiple problems with these forums, and unfortunately things like that happen all the time (to all of us).

Make sure you have the latest Adobe Reader installed for your OS.

Did you try using Preview. If you control click on the PDF on your desktop you can use the "open with" option.

  • Adobe reader won't open on iPad after recent update

After most recent update, adobe reader won't open on my iPad. I have lots of docs that I need to get to. Please help.

This forum is probably the best you can do. We're now on the weekend, and Adobe engineers don't work 24/7. When they return on Monday and see the reports, they'll work to fix it. The update will need to be submitted to Apple and then approved for an update.
Note that there are other apps on the App Store which can read PDFs.

  • Adobe reader won't open, even after re-download

adobe reader won't open because of error - NEED PDF READER NOW!!!!!!!!!

The reason is Adobe has not updated there software yet to play well with Mavericks. The fault is of course with the Adobe Software. I suggest you go to there web site and see if they have a fix yet for there software, If not all you can do is continue to check back with them or get on there fourms and see what others have to say about this same issue.

  • Adobe reader can't open a file because it's not supported type of file or it's damaged?

I get this pop-up when trying to reinstall HP Printer software: Adobe reader can't open a file because it's not supported type of file or it's damaged?

Hold down the control key and select a file of the given type in the Finder. A contextual menu appears. Release the control key and hold down the option key. From the contextual menu, select the submenu
              Always Open With
    and then select
               DiskImageMounter
    from the submenu.

  • Adobe Reader doesn't open .pdf files anymore. Error: 213:11.

Adobe Reader doesn't open .pdf files anymore. It's written Error: 213:11. Details: laptop with Windows XP, Adobe Reader X

Are these local or online documents?  If online, in what browser?  If local, does the documents folder and docs themselves have sufficient permissions?
Is there anything else beside the number 213:11?

  • Mac won't open some files MasterPlan.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).

I had this problem of not being able to open some files a couple of years ago and eventually was able to fix it but i can't remember how. Any help would be grateful.

The following document should help: Error: Adobe Reader could not open '*.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and was not correctly decoded.)
Please update this thread if your issue is resolved.

  • Adobe Reader tries to open all files even Excel and Word docs.

When I try to open files that are sent to me, the Adobe Reader tries to open them all instead of an Excel file getting opened automatically by Excel and a .doc being opened by Word.
The message I get by the Reader says it cannot open it, of course. (I have Windows Vista on my HP computer if that is the problem.) Someone told me to take the default off of the Reader so the files open and download in the proper software program, but I am unable to find such a "default" option in the Reader program properties.
I never had this problem with any previous Windows version, so not sure if it is my computer, or the Reader. How can I fix this so when I download or open a file, it automatically opens in the right software?

This means that the file associations of the various Office programs have been muddled up somehow. Try an Office repair install; that should correct the file associations.

  • Adobe Reader won't open PDFs

Why do I keep getting an error message when I try to print a PDF with Adobe Reader? It says that I have to sign the user agreement. I have already done this at least 10 times....

The ikon appears on my desktop ok.  But when I click on it I get the following message:
Adobe Reader could not open "Paul Voigt and Edison Bell.pdf" because it is either not a supported
file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and
    wasn't correctly decoded.
I get this message every time I try to use Adobe Reader!
