Adobe Reader automatically removes itself

Hey,
I need some help.
One of the laptops at work needs Adobe Reader installed for PDF use.
I install it, however, after every system shutdown, Adobe Reader is automatically removed and i have no idea why.
I've tried googling this, with not luck..
Has anyone had this problem before, or know of a solution/fix/help..
Laptop is using Windows 7 Pro.
Let me know if you need any more details on the system etc.
Cheers,

@ʇɐb ɹəuəllıʍ
Forgot to mention that Adobe Reader is deployed via GPO..
It seemed to be that the laptop wasn't correclty talking to the domain controller so the software was being removed.
Rejoined the domain and the problem was corrected.

  • Adobe Reader XI removing itself

We are attempting to pinpoint what is causing random users to have their Adobe Reader uninstalled.
Not sure if any recent updates (Adobe or Microsoft) would trigger this to uninstall. We dont't have any group policies or batch files running to perform a uninstall task.
All I can gather at this point is it's randomly happing on workstations and in the Windows application log its reporting the following.
    Source: MsInstaller
    Catorgory: None
    Type: Information
    Event ID: 11724
    User: NT Authority/System
Product: Adobe Reader XI -- Removal completed successfully.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
    Anyone know anything about this?

Uninstall requires elevation on Vista\Win 7
What are those systems where this happens? Did you hear from Users that they are asked to confirm UAC prompt?
Do you have Acrobat installed on those systems? If YES, was it customized with Adobe Customization Wizard?
There is an option in CW to uninstall Readers while installing Acrobat.
Can you enable verbose MSI logging on these systems and, if this happens again, search for the value of  CLIENTPROCESSID property in the log file - if the process with the same process id is running on the system, you can possibly find out what it is.

  • HT2506 I prefer Preview as my default reader. Somehow Adobe Reader has locked itself as the default. How do I reset back to Preview?

I prefer Preview as my default reader. Somehow Adobe Reader has locked itself as the default. How do I reset back to Preview?

First order of priority - Establish what platform is in use. In this case: MacBook Air with Trac Pad, no Mouse.
Second - Establish Operating System in use. In this case: OX 10.8.3.
Third - Establish, as best as you are able, the parameters in which you have been attempting a work-around and, to include mention of, any other secondary software program capable of becoming a default other than, in this case, Preview.
Fourth - State the problem: Adobe Reader somehow automatically has become the Default PDF viewer.
Here's my answer: When a trac pad not a mouse is in use - Select the PDF you will be opening; don't open it, Select it. At this juncture, tap COMMAND - I (Unfortunately Apple has no Drop Down Menu motion to achieve this operation that I can determine); at this point you will get this:
Click on "Open with: " If you see Adobe Reader there in lies the problem. So, simply click the "up/down" arrows on the Selection Window, and from there click on Preview. From there on Preview will be your Default program.
Thank you to everyone who helped in reply to my initial query.

  • Adobe Reader Automatic Updates - modifying

Is it possible to re-direct Adobe Reader to an address on our internal network for updates rather than going out to adobe.com? Our policies and network restrictions do not allow users to perform the updates themselves so we are releasing new versions as SMS packages. We'd like to simplify the process by having Adobe reader look to an internal server for updates.
Any advice or feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.
    Paul

I doubt this is possible as it could be a security on its own. However, you should be able automate the updating process on your own without changing Adobe Reader's internal settings (other than to have automatic updating turned off). Alas, I'm not capable of telling you how to do it, but people have done it previously. You might try a search on the forums (through Google, not the forum search )

  • Adobe Reader automatically opening

After printing to pdf writer the document used to automaticallty open in reader and it no longer does this. Is there any way to fix the settings so that the pdf will automatically open after printing to pdf?

You should check the "view Adobe PDF results" in your print settings.  You'll find this if you click on properties in the print dialog box (speaking for Windows 7 and Acrobat Pro X).
This question should be in the Acrobat forums.  I'll move it over there.

  • When I try to either download Adobe Reader or remove 8.2.5 from my computer I get this message. Help

Windows Installer. The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Clock OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation packege 'AdbeRdr820_en_US.msi' in the box below. I can't find this file on my computer. ANY SUGGESTIONS? This is so frustrating because I can't open a PDF file from an E-mail

Use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to remove the corrupted installation from your system.  It is no longer supported by Microsoft, but you can still download it from 3rd-party download sites like http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459

  • Can't remove or install Adobe Reader XI

Adobe Reader XI was installed from a server image.  That version of Adobe Reader was removed from the server.  Now I can't access, uninstall or reinstall Adobe Reader.  Any solutions?

If you are in Windows (you haven't said), you can try using this tool to first remove all traces of previous versions of Reader:
    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Then, download and run the full offline Reader installer from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

  • Adobe Reader Closes automatically while the form is large

    Hi ,
I am having the application PDF which is stitched dynamically. Here In the PDF user can enter N number of location and corresponding details.
When the Locations is increased then the Data volume also will be increased. and also in the PDf has N number of tabs(Like Home , Help .. etc ) .
We also have some functions like submit , Export XML , Import XMl .....
All the functions are working fine but
when the form is large and user navigates different panel (via clicking the button) the the PDF is closed automatically.
    Example : - In the PDF I have two Panel/Tabs Like P1 , P2 . When I clicks,
P1 - Some calcaulation (Reading the data from XML and N Number of loops and calculate value)
P2 - To View the Value based on the P1 calcuation
    Problem : -
If user Clicks P2 then calcuation is working Ok and clicks p1 then Adobe Reader Closed.
If User Clicks P2 and clicks P1 then OK but user clicks again p2 and p1 then Adobe Reader Closed.
Adobe Reader automatically closed first time or 2nd or 3rd......
But I having these issue only for Large PDF. Current issue PDF has 6 MB and the exported XML is 2 MB .
    Is any Memory issue ??
    Any Ideas..??
    Regards,
    Dhiyane

    Hi,
I would say you are definitely coming up against memory restrictions. There are a couple of posts by John Brinkman that I would recommend.
First I would look at why the form is 6Mb and see if you can reduce this down. For example, select fonts that are already in Reader (like Myriad Pro) and then deselect Embed Fonts in the File > Form Properties > Save Options. Also do not embed images into the form. See:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/formfeed/2010/02/big_and_complex_forms.html.
    http://blogs.adobe.com/formfeed/2010/09/xdp-size-matters.html.
    http://blogs.adobe.com/formfeed/2009/11/linked_vs_embedded_template_im.html.
Next look at your script. You mention loops, so check is your script efficient. For example, use xfa.resolveNodes() once outside of the loop, instead of xfa.resolveNode() inside the loop. Make sure that variables are declared. See:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/formfeed/2011/10/script-performance-exercise.html.
    http://assure.ly/kUP02y.
Also check for any script that you have in events that fire frequently, like layout:ready event and comment these out. See.
    http://assure.ly/nB0Bvz.
The dataset seems very large at 2Mb. Does this include image data? It may be that the user is interacting with the form, while it is still trying to process the XML and the loops.
    Hope that helps,
    Niall

  • How do I move a pdf file from my download area into adobe reader

How do I move a pdf file from my download area into adobe reader

    Hi!
Adobe Reader automatically lists all the PDFs on your device in it's file browser. You can toggle between the "All PDFs" view and "Folder View" in the "Documents" tab of the file browser.
    Thanks

  • How do i install adobe reader without installing products from google.

i dont like google, i dont like a bunch of worthless taskbars crowding my browser. so how do i install adobe reader without installing google products when you dont even give me the chance to say i dont want them?
It is unethical to force onto people products of any nature that they do not want. i do not want google products so by your installation for adobe reader automatically installing google products without my consent is unethical.

I don't understand the "forcing" part; the bundled software is clearly optional, and can be unchecked before the download.
Or using the download link that Michael provided earlier (which is posted at least a dozen times every day in this forum).

  • Installing Adobe Reader on Drive D

  • I'm receiving an error message updating adobe reader, can you explain message and give assistance?

Adobe Reader automatic update to 10.5.8 will not load onto my Mac Yosemite. Error message is "Installer: Package name is Adobe Reader XI (11.0.10) Installer: Installing at base path / installer: The install failed (The installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.)
I would appreciate some assistance from the manufacturer as it says....
The update presented to me to upgrade to is 10.5.8, current version is 10.1.8 updated on March 8th. Why is there another update so soon??

OK, looking closer, it is saying I have 10.5.8 and it is trying to download Reader 11. However, my applications folder says my current version is 10.1.8.  The enclosed screenshot appeared when I clicked on a link in a "Proxy Statement" I received as a shareholder. The link was to take me to shareholder voting. It originated from my brokerage firm, so really unlikely it was spam link. So, when I went ahead and installed this I got the error message I posted in first email.
    Sorry if I confused versions....
Does this look like spam? If it isn't, why the error message??
    thanks

  • Adobe Reader 11.0.03.37 hangs and freezes opening PDF documents

When opening PDF documents with Adobe Reader 11.0.03.37, it hangs and freezes for a few minutes.  Is anyone else experiencing this and is there a fix or work around?
We have Windows 7 Professional 64-bit operating systems.  It takes a moment for the Adobe Reader to unfreeze itself but will eventually.
    Thanks!

Found a fix for my problem.  It wasn't the Protected Mode issue after all.  The fix is to disable In Product Messaging.
Here is the fix for the problem.  Now maybe Adobe can address this issue in the future release or patch/update.
Try it on yours and see if it doesn't fix it also.
The following below link provides the information I am about to share with you.
But open Adobe Acrobat Reader without opening a PDF file. So just open Adobe Reader application by itself.
    1. Click on EDIT
    2. Click on PREFERENCES
    3. Click on GENERAL Category
    4. UNCHECK "Show me messages when I launch Reader"
    5. CHECK "Don't show messages while viewing a document"
This should fix your problem as it fixed mine. See the link below for more information. Looks like I will be doing a regedit script for our network users to get rid of this problem. UGGGHHH!!!!!!
    Hope this helps!

Your log file shows you to be running v10.1.0.534. Could you please update to the latest version which is v10.1.1 and then try again. You can get it from here: http://get.adobe.com/reader/direct/
Also, has a rule been created in the BeyondTrust Software application you appear to be using to allow Reader X to open in Protected Mode? That application might be interfering with the way Reader X operates. There's a demo on their site which might help: http://www.beyondtrust.com/Products/PowerBroker-Desktops-Windows-Edition/Product-Demo/
