Adobe Reader Bookmark panel scrolling

We have documents with a large number of bookmarks. We would like to be able to scroll through the bookmarks but there is no scroll bar on the bookmarks panel. The mouse wheel allows us to perform this action, however we are using a smartboard to display the pdfs so that's not an option.
Is there a way to display a scroll bar in the bookmarks panel or enable clicking and dragging in the panel to make it easier to scroll through the bookmarks?
Thanks

I had the same issue and this post was the first result on Google. After seeing no replies I immediately gave up searching and instead dropped into Adobe Reader's View menu and started tinkering.
SOLUTION:
It turns out Adobe Reader changes some settings on installation if it detects certain hardware (eg. a touchscreen). In this case the offending option is 'Touch Mode.' To get to the option (in Adobe Reader Xl v11.0.07 on Windows 7) go to 'View'->'Show/Hide'->'Toolbar Items' and click on 'Touch Mode.' There's a checkbox next to it that is always checked on my system but clicking it does seem to toggle a vertical scrollbar in the bookmarks pane.
I have no idea why someone at Adobe decided it would be a good idea to disable the scrollbar at all, ever. It makes it impossible to navigate large PDFs like technical manuals and there's no notice at all to the user that settings have been "optimized" for a touch interface.
It would be nice of the program to ask before doing in the future. But instead the distinctions between malware and products like Adboe Reader (with all its many issues, vulnerabilities and shady behind-the-scenes operations) continues to blur year after year. I hope this helps someone else having the same issue and maybe someone from Adobe might read this and take my advice to heart.

    When I print in Adobe Reader, the paper scrolls down several inches before the text begins therefore running off the page.  I have tried numerous settings and cannot fix problem.  Help!!!

    I have finally cracked it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    The issue is definitely with Java Sun. "Uneven character spacing when printing JTextComponent"
    It is raised on the http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6488219
    And currently in OPEN state, and raised on 31 Oct 2006 and mentions it was caused by fix 4352983.
    So where do we go from here. It's not good because I have tried all later version of the JVM and the issue is still there.
    Why? Because it hasn't been fixed yet. Read the bug report above, as it gives more insight -- and mentions the workaround is NOT good for existing code.
    So the way forward is to use an earlier version of the JVM 5.
    I download the JVM version 1.5.0 (starting version) and works Ok... I would probably think version prior to 4352983 would be Ok too.
    Please vote for this.... We have a workaround (use older version of the JVM).
    So I am very happy.

  • Why does Adobe Reader use the scroll wheel to zoom in/out now, rather than actually scroll?

    Why does Adobe Reader use the scroll wheel to zoom in/out rather than actually, um, scroll? I can't find anywhere to change this function in Preferences, either.

    I had the same problem on my Windows 8 touch screen laptop.  It was driving me crazy! Every time I tried to scroll a page down, the program would zoom the page!  Made reading an ebook difficult.
    I finally found the solution:
    Under Edit select Preferences - General
    Uncheck "Make Hand Tool Use mouse-wheel zooming".

  • Adobe Reader Bookmarks

    I have all of my Aviation publications in .PDF format.  I keep them on my android tablet (Samsung Tab S 8.4).  With the adobe reader app for android, it allows you to bookmark pages (along with renaming the page you bookmarked).   Also I have these publications on the acrobat.com cloud, and when I open the file from the cloud on my phone the bookmarks I created are there.
    Here is my issue.  When I transfer the file to my phone (Galaxy Note 4) and open that same .pdf file from the tablet on the phone, those bookmarks I created are not present on the phone.   Same if I upload the file from the tablet to my google drive and then try to open the file on my phone, the bookmarks are not there.
    Is there a way that when I save a .pdf file (save it to anything other than acrobat.com) that I edited (i.e. bookmarked, highlighted...) on my tablet, that I can see those bookmarks on my computer or my phone.  Doing everything through the acrobat.com cloud is fine for me, but I want to share these files with others that I work with, but all they get is the file with things highlighted or comments, they don't get the custom bookmarks I made.

    Hi,
    The PDF bookmarks listed under 'Table of Contents'  are a part of the PDF while the user added bookmarks are the custom bookmarks added by the user to aid in reading. On moving a particular file from one location to another, the user added bookmarks are not retained. They, however, come back if you move the file to its original location. We are aware of this issue and tracking it internally. Also, the user added bookmarks are a feature of Adobe Reader on Android only, hence you will not be able to view them on your desktop or an iOS device.
    If you upload the file to Acrobat.com, these bookmarks must persist and should be available across all your android devices until you move the file from one folder to another. Could you please confirm that without moving the file, the user added bookmarks are not retained and that you are unable to view these bookmarks across different android devices?
    Thanks,
    Adobe Reader Team

  • Linking to adobe reader bookmarks via C#

    Hello,
      I have a pdf file that was created with bookmarks in it.  This particular document is a manual for a product we are developing.  We use this pdf document as a link to our "What's this help" in our product.  We first click the "What's this" button and then an item in our product.  As of Adobe Reader X (ARX) this is no longer working as it has in the past.  This is the process in which things should and have happened until ARX:
    1. Click the "What's this" button
    2. Click somewhere in the application
    3. Adobe Reader comes up.
    4. Adobe Reader opens the "User Manual"
    5. Adobe Reader jumps to selected bookmark.
    What is happening as of ARX is the following:
    1. Click the "What's this" button
    2. Click somewhere in the application
    3. Adobe Reader comes up.
    4. Adobe Reader opens the "User Manual"
    5. FAILURE! - Adobe Reader does NOT jump to selected bookmark.
    Nothing has changed in our code.  This worked for versions of Adobe Reader 8 and 9, but now with X it doesn't work.  Below is a code snipit of what we are doing.  Any help on the matter would be appreciated.  I have tried to put sleeps between commands to Adobe Reader but that doesn't seem to help.  I have turned off the protection mode new to ARX and that seems to help but still not consistent.
    Code Snipit:
    DdeClient client = new DdeClient("acroview", "control");
    try
       client.Connect();
    catch{}
    if (!client.IsConnected)
       client = new DdeClient("acroviewr10", "control");
       client.Connect();
    try
       client.Execute("[DocOpen(\"" + userGuide + "\")]", 10000);
       Thread.Sleep(1000);
       client.Execute("[FileOpenEx(\"" + userGuide + "\")]", 10000);
       Thread.Sleep(1000);
       client.Execute("[DocGoToNameDest(\"" + userGuide + "\"," + bookmark + ")]", 10000);

    Thank you for replying.
    I considered passwords or certificates, but that predisposes that I know who the users are in advance. I don't, this is on an open website.
    I wasn't clear on this point. I should have mentioned that I'm not looking for a foolproof way of preventing the user from emailing their responses. I don't think that is possible. I'm only attempting to discourage a user from doing so inadvertantly, by making it a little more difficult.

  • Adobe Reader ignores mouse scroll speed setting

    Whenever I load a .PDF file, the mouse scroll wheel setting is ignored and the document scrols 1 line at a time. This is very annoying when trying to read a document, especially is it is a long one.
    Is there a way to set the scroll speed in the Reader so that it matches the Windows scroll speed setting?

    tasty_minerals wrote:
    Can anybody tell me how to set a mouse scroll speed in "chromium" for example? I found an application called "imwheel", and edited ~/.imwheelrc adding
    "^chromium$”
    None, Up, Button4, 5
    None, Down, Button5, 5
    but still get an error:
    INFO: imwheel started (pid=897)
    expected 3 args, got 1, in config.
    “^chromium$”
    How to make it properly, anyone?
    fixed it, just needed to remove "$" sign in “^chromium$” > “^chromium”.
    One thing is if imwheel working, you cant increase fonts in chromium with "ctrl + wheel" unfortunately.

  • Adobe Reader choppy scrolling

    Hi Everyone,
    I'm having an issue with Adobe Reader for OSX 10.8.4. Whenever I load up a PDF using Adobe Reader and being scrolling through it I notice that it scrolls extremely choppy but when I open the same PDF with preview, it works perfectly smooth. Does anyone know what's going on or know of a fix? I've tried to google search for a solution but I have yet to come accorss anything useful. Any help would be great.
    Thanks.

    Hi WiLD_Cat,
    No solution I'm afraid but just to let you know I have exactly the same problem with my MBA core i5 1.7GHz with 8GB RAM which I purchased last week. Some web pages (Facebook is a good example, The Guardian as well) are really unresponsive/choppy while scrolling up/down, while others are ok. I have also noticed that typing text into web forms (such as this one) produces a noticeable lag with text appearing).
    Obviously interested if you or anyone else has a solution!

  • How to stop Adobe Reader jumping through pages?

    In two of my computers, Adobe Acrobat Reader (newest version) has this kind of bug: when I open some document, and scroll to some page, then switch tabs (if in browser) or alt-tab to another program, and after some time switch back to Reader, it "forgets" which page I was in, and displays random page, like it scrolls automatically to random place. Tried re-installing, different browsers, different documents, still this problem. If I don't alt-tab, everything is ok. Just when I switch focus to other program, and back again to Adobe Reader, document is scrolled somewhere else than where I left it. Sometimes Reader scrolls to another part of the page I red before, sometimes it jumps 2-3 pages forward. Why is this happening?

    Can you please do the following in Reader:
    Click Edit, Preferences.
    Choose Documents.
    Check the box marked, Restore last view settings when reopening documents.
    This should do the trick.

  • Adobe Reader 9 bookmark pane will not stay active

    I have created a manual in Word 2007 then created a PDF.  In Adobe Pro 9 I created links in the manual that links to a second document which is the glossary.
    If you open the manual in Reader 9, the initial view is set as Bookmark Panel and Page.  When you click a link and go to the glossary then select "Click to return to the previous page view", it returns to the manual but it has Pages Panel and Page as the initial view.
    I have the initial view set to Bookmark Panel and page set in the manual, but it changes when I return to the manual from the glossary.  Does anyone else have this issue?  It did not happen in Adobe Reader 8.

    In Adobe Acrobat (not Adobe Reader) you can change the initial view of the PDF documents.

  • How do I create a bookmark on Adobe Reader X?

    I have a lot of Engineering reference books in .pdf format that have no bookmarks to chapters/topics. Am I able to create bookmarks on Reader X or would I need the full acrobat software? Bookmarking these documents would make life a lot easier when sourcing info so any help would be massively appreciated!

    I am so naive that I'm using Adobe READER as my default PDF READER, and I expect bookmarks to be default functionality of any READER.
    Pushing it to the paid PRO functionality is really nasty. Why not then push 'Open' function to Acrobat Pro: Wanna open PDF — buy Acrobat Pro!
    Really without a sarcasm: there is a whole lot of convenient functions in Acrobat Pro, and I'm okay with the fact that it is paid. But bookmarks is really a BASIC feature of reading experience, its like scrolling pages, it's a feature of an 'MVP kind', I mean if you're making a reader — bookmarks should be there from the very start. And even more: it is SOOO easy to implement, that the fact it is from the 'PRO' set of functions is funny!

  • Bookmarks in Adobe Reader iOS

    Hello,
    How to see bookmarks on iPad?  The file I have has already bookmarks created on Acrobat writer desktop version.
    I have the latest version of the iPad app and my file is large around 450 pages.  The file has been saved to see Bookmarks panel and page in properties.
    Thanks

    If you have bookmarks then the bookmark tool will appear on the bottom right hand corner next to the scroll bar on the bottom.  If it isn't bookmarked correctly or there aren't any, you won't see a bookmark tool appear.

  • Android Adobe Reader 11.2.1 has bookmark icon, what does it accomplish?

    1.  Is there an instruction manual for 11.2.1 Android Adobe Reader?
    If there was a manual I wouldn't have to ask this question in this forum.
    I have looked and looked for a manual and I have concluded I will find the Holy Grail before I find a manual.
    2.  The app has a little tiny bookmark icon at the top.
    I can press it and it says in a momentary window at the bottom, that a bookmark was added for that page.
    Hooray, I have added a bookmark.
    No surely there must be some way to get back to that bookmarked page quickly.  Otherwise, what was the point?
    As I scroll through the page that bookmark icon has a barely visible check sign when I am at an already bookmarked page.
    As I read the document the menus at the top and bottom go gray after some number of seconds
    and that bookmark icon disappears so the check mark is not visible.  Though as small as it is it's essentially un-useful
    except to tell me that I have already placed a bookmark at the page I am currently viewing.
    It appears that once I have used that icon to add a bookmark there is nothing else I can do with that bookmark.
    I have found no way to view a list of bookmarks.
    I have found no way to quickly navigate back to that bookmark.
    All I can do is touch the area at the top and bottom so as to display those
    top and bottom menus and then observe whether that tiny little icon has an even tinier check mark in it or not.
    Surely there must be something else I can do with a bookmark.
    Why else would Adobe bother to actually write software for such a function if there wasn't anything to use it for?
    Or perhaps this is an experimental new feature that hasn't been completed?
    Again, a manual that explained how to use this software would be useful.
    And if the function is experimental and not yet fully functional I am sure a good manual would point that out.

    To see the Help documentation in Adobe Reader for Android,

  • Would an issue with Adobe Reader XI be the reason I would not have a scroll bar or another way to navigate a list on a website that requires Adobe?

    The publisher of our text books have an online resource we use to access materials that requires the use of Adobe Reader. For the past few days I have been unable to navigate through the site because there is not a scroll bar or any method to move through the list using the navigation bookmarks provided for that purpose.  I have spoken, at length, with the online support team at the publishing company, and we have tried many trouble shooting steps.  The technician I was working with also checked on the Adobe website to see if he could find anything else.  He and I are both at a loss.  As the problem doesn't seem to be on his end (the publisher, website, etc) or my end (my settings for PDF on my computer, version of Adobe, platform, etc.), I am hoping someone might have an idea of how to help solve this issue.

    My operating system is Windows 7,  I've tried both Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, and the Reader version is 11.0.09.  In Chrome, the Adobe PDF plugin has been enabled and "always allow" has been selected.  The Chrome PDF viewer had been disabled.  The adjustments have also been made in Firefox to use Adobe Acrobat.
    I appreciate any help or advice you are able to offer.

  • How to shut off bookmarks by default ( Adobe Reader 7.x)

    The company president has requested that all PDF's I send him open up without the bookmarks panel. The thing is, the PDF's are produced from a reporting tool which generates the bookmarks, then it sends him the file by email. Since there's no manual intervention, I cannot save the file without bookmarks.
    Is there any way (example INI file) to setup personal preferences so that would not bookmarks panel would not open up automatically ?
    Thank you in advance

    I created this solution because I had problems switching back and forth between "Home", "Tools", and "Document" after applying the move/delete fix:
    I edited the XML file "Adobe/Acrobat Reader DC/Reader/AcroApp/ENU/Viewer.aapp" to contain only this line:
    <Application xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/acrobat/app/2014"title="Viewer" id="Viewer" majorVersion="1" requiresDoc="true"minorVersion="0"/>
    What this does (for me):
    The right hand pane <RHP> is completely hidden (no unhide available) at Reader startup.
    To use a tool you have to switch to "Tools" and select a tool. If the tool places content in the <RHP> the pane is shown. In any case, if you switch back to the document, unhide is available again afterwards, although with no content, except from some tool you might have activated in the current session.
    This solution deletes the <Layouts> for the <RHP> resulting in the <RHP> being hidden (and empty by default).
