Adobe Reader cannot play embedded Flash content

I don't know why, the Flash format was originally created by Macromedia, and then Adobe acquired the company, but the Adobe Reader cannot display Flash content.
My PDF file is here:
http://genifer.googlecode.com/files/agi-book.pdf
Scroll to page 37.
The original SWF file is here:
http://genifer.googlecode.com/files/unified-AND-OR.swf
which *can* be played on my Chrome browser.
But when I embedded the SWF file in the PDF, the result is unplayable.
A clue is:  Adobe Reader asked me to download QuickTime to display media contents.  So I downloaded QuickTime.  But QuickTime nowadays has removed Flash support.  Why did Adobe Reader ask me to download QuickTime to display Flash, when Adobe owns the Flash format?
I have also tried selecting other media players in the Reader's option box (eg, Windows Media, Windows built-in, Adobe Flash, etc) but none of them works.
I have also tried using Adobe Acrobat Professional 9.  Same result.
It seems to be a problem with Adobe Reader.  Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Adobe Reader most certainly CAN play embedded Flash content, but only if you embed it properly.
You're seeing a Quicktime warning because you're embedding the SWF as "legacy media" content - this is no longer supported for authoring and is disabled by default for playback. You should use Rich Media Annotations instead (embedding using the multimedia/flash tool in Acrobat 9 or Acrobat X).

  • Adobe reader cannot extract embedded font after pdf sent via outlook

We have some pdf files that open fine in Adobe Reader 9.1.3.  Once we send them via e-mail (we use Outlook 2003), they will not open properly with the error message: "Cannot extract the embedded font 'TWDWSP+TradeGothic-Light.  Some characters may not display or print correctly."  When we click OK, another error message appears: "An error exists on this page.  Acrobat may not display the page correctly.  Please contact the person who created the PDF document to correct the problem."  If the files are sent in a ZIP archive, they open correctly, but not if sent individually as PDFs.  Can someone help?

It's one of the reasons that it's not recommended to send a PDF via email without Zipping it first. Either the senders or receivers email client may use encoding to make the ransfer faster which can wreck PDF's.
Best bet is to Zip (as you've seen) the file first or post it to a web space and email the link.

  • Which versions of Acrobat reader supports embedded Flash content?

I was wondering which versions of Acrobat supports Flash files (or Flash content) that might be found embedded within PDF files?
Specifically, does version 6, 7 or 8 have this capability?

The wikipedia entry for Adobe Acrobat says this regarding Acrobat reader version 9:
"Insert FLV (Flash) or H.264 video for direct playback in Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Reader."
The way I read that, it says that the ability to handle pdf files with embedded flash content was introduced with Acrobat reader version 9, and did not exist in earlier versions of Acrobat reader.
So are you sure that older Acrobat reader versions (specifically, version 6) is capable of correctly handling flash content embedded within a pdf file?

    Hi gurus!

Hi ravindra, what i can suggest you is to set a breakpoint just before ur cursor goes into the pdf part and just comment the part when it comes to the popup. its very easy and the best way to do it.

  • Dreamweaver embedded flash content will not load in IE7

    My company standard is IE7
I'm charged with developing flv that will auto play on PC from a removable thumb drive.
in addition it should be able to launch a url.
I'm using CS4 Flash and Dreamweaver
    developing on a Mac.
I've used action script 3 to program buttons that start, stop and launch url
I've worked everything out on a Mac.it works fine in Mac environment.
I've gotten swf files to autoplay on PC
    the PROBLEM?
when I try load the html web page on the PC with IE7 the flash content (either a swf or flv embedded using Dreamweaver) does not load.
IF I leave the IE specific html in the code IE7 returns a message that flash player needs to update. - IT has installed the latest version of flash player.
if I extract the sniffer/alternative code the flash content does not load there is no message
If the swf file auto loads and plays then Why is that a problem?
action script -  to launch url execution launches as a security warning and the trusted settings window
    not very seamless eh?
so the alternative is to play the flash content embedded in html and create launch url button in html . . . but ofcourse flash content won't load in IE7.
I've not been able to test the code on any other version of IE
I hope this is enough information to help if not let me know what you need to know . . .
thanks in advance for any time you all spend on this.
    M

So right now you have a SWF file that plays and FLV file and it's not loading in IE7.  Is the testing server that you are using NOT on your local machine?  The reason I ask this is because IE will typically block content if it is hosted on the local machine and treat it as a security risk, prompting the message you refer to.
Also would it be possible for us to see the code you are using for the plugin?  Most users here will be able to help troubleshoot any issues with the HTML code if we can see it, however, there is a possibility that the fix may be in Flash, in which case you should cross-post this in the Flash forum as well for assistance just in case.

  • Cannot view embeded sopfilter content

    Hi,
I'm running windows 7 starter and I cannot view embedded sopfilter content in firefox 4. I was able to do it with firefox 3, but not in 4. I'm still able to view the content with IE, but I would much prefer to use Firefox as I did before.
Every time I load the page it's asking me to install the plugin... after going through the wizzard, it says I have to install it manually... but Microsoft says that the required plugin is already preinstalled on windows 7 and gives me nothing to install.
    Please help!!!

Using Firefox 4, please visit the [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/ Plugin Check page] - this will tell you the status of your plugins and may hint at what action is required.

  • Issue with latest Adobe Reader 11.0.10 - Adobe Reader cannot open in Protected Mode due to incompatibility with your system configuration.

Since updating to the most recent Adobe Reader v11.0.10, getting an Adobe Reader Protected Mode: Adobe Reader cannot open in Protected Mode due do an incompatibility with your system configuration.  Would you like to open Adobe Reader with Protected Mode disabled?

The solution I was looking for was to launch Adobe Reader in Protected Mode.
I could not identify issues preventing Protected Mode from starting.  What ended up working, was to do a complete uninstall, followed by a reinstall.  Now we can load Reader in Protected Mode.

  • Adobe Reader cannot open in Protected Mode

I apologize if this is listed in the wrong category.
Recently, all users on our server started receiving a message: "Adobe Reader cannot open in Protected Mode due to an incompatibility with your system configuration. Would you like to open Adobe Reader with Protected mode disabled?" The users are presented with 3 options:
    Open with Protected Mode disabled
Always open with Protected Mode disabled
Do not open with Protected Mode disabled.
All the users can click "Open with Protected Mode disabled" and the PDF opens fine. I know that I can disable Protected Mode but I would rather not have to disable a security feature.
I have read this link: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/protected-mode-troubleshooting-reader.html and none of the provided solutions seem to apply to us. I have tried a rebooting the server and uninstalling/reinstalling Adobe. Neither of these options worked. There is not an antivirus currently running on this server. We are not using Smart Cards. I have checked the Security permissions and they seem to be fine. I can not think of any recent changes to this server, but it has run just fine for years now.
    OS is Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1
    Acrobat Version is 11.0.10
Is anyone aware of anything else that could cause this message? Thanks

    Thanks for the reply.
That option is not there on my version though. I am using version 11.0.10

  • Adobe reader cannot open protected mode

I downloaded and installed Reader X,  and get the see the message adobe reader cannot open protected mode due to configuration errors.
The link provides no information as to what the problem is.
I have Windows XP SP3 (with all the updates) and using Avira AntiVir as the antivirus.
How do I get to the protected mode?

    Hi,
The problem does not seem to be with Avira Antivirus Personal Edition.
Are there no unsupported configurations mentioned in the link
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/860/cpsid_86063.html#main_Unsupported_configurations
    on your system?
Also please let me know the following details:
    1) Was ReaderX installed at the default path or the installer path changed manually?
    2) Are the PDF files you are trying to open kept on any local disk or any kind of network share?
    3) Please disable all the antispyware, antimalware and firewall installed in your system and then verify.
    4) Please tell the kind of user(admin/standard/guest ) who is trying to open PDF files.
    Thanks .

  • Adobe reader cannot be opened!

Adobe reader cannot be opened.  what can I do.
I reinstalled the app but it still does not open and cannot be used,

What is your operating system?  Reader version?

  • Adobe reader cannot open in protected mode due to an incompatibility with your system configuration.

I keep getting the error message: Adobe reader cannot open in protected mode due to an incompatibility with your system configuration.
I have Windows 7 Home basic Service pack 1 and have already uninstalled and re-downloaded Adobe reader XI twice. I have also read other threads on this forum, and
tried the suggestions, including running Kaspersky anti-rootkit, no threats were found.
My Adobe reader shortcut icon shows a small blue and yellow shield in the bottom right (I uninstalled Windows essential protection), but the problem prevails.
I would rather get to the root of the error and fix it and not just disable protection mode!
    Please help.

    Hi,
Please refer to the solution in:- Error: “Acrobat Failed to Load core DLL”.
Also, may want to try disabling all Non-Microsoft Startup Services.

  • Cannot open pdfs  with adobe. receive message "adobe reader cannot open fild because it's either not

message states "adobe reader cannot open "resume, ;wps because it's either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)

Microsoft Word Viewer should be able to view .wps files; most likely the installation of the viewer will fix the file association.

  • I have a mac/downloaded latest adobe reader & cannot find to accept end license agreement

I have a mac/downloaded latest adobe reader & cannot find to accept end license agreement.  It says downloaded successful.  I go to use it and it won't work.  Said to close.  I've opened adobe reader again and brings me back to install which I hit again and it says already installed.

I am having this same issue, which is frustrating.  How does Adobe not have weekend tech support?  I keep getting told to just "open the program"  well, i have tried to open it, and it doesnt show as downloaded, so i will go to download it, and it says "you already have this installed"... well okay, then i go to find it, and it doesnt exist anywhere on my computer and tells me to download it again, and annoying triangle i keep going in.

  • I need to know how to ad Adobe Reader to play on Facebook

    hep me out

You don't need to add Adobe Reader to play on Facebook. Adobe Reader is an app to view pdf files.

  • Adobe Reader cannot open URLLink.acsm because not a supported file type or is damaged

tried to download ebook, kept getting message Adobe Reader cannot open URLLink.acsm because not a supported file type or is damaged.  Have downloaded Adobe Digital Editions, have an Adobe ID.  What is the problem?

    1. I assume you have some PDF documents you have been keeping a long time. Look at their modification date. Is it what you'd expect (years ago) or is it all the same, recent?
    2. Has a TXT file appeared in the same folder as the PDFs?
