Adobe Reader choppy scrolling

Hi Everyone,
I'm having an issue with Adobe Reader for OSX 10.8.4. Whenever I load up a PDF using Adobe Reader and being scrolling through it I notice that it scrolls extremely choppy but when I open the same PDF with preview, it works perfectly smooth. Does anyone know what's going on or know of a fix? I've tried to google search for a solution but I have yet to come accorss anything useful. Any help would be great.
Thanks.

Hi WiLD_Cat,
No solution I'm afraid but just to let you know I have exactly the same problem with my MBA core i5 1.7GHz with 8GB RAM which I purchased last week. Some web pages (Facebook is a good example, The Guardian as well) are really unresponsive/choppy while scrolling up/down, while others are ok. I have also noticed that typing text into web forms (such as this one) produces a noticeable lag with text appearing).
Obviously interested if you or anyone else has a solution!

  • [MBA 2013] Choppy Scrolling in Safari and Adobe Reader

    Hey guys
just got my baby from the local Apple store a few days ago.
This is my first ever Apple product and I am loving it in many ways...
except for an issue with scrolling and animations.
Despite having installed the latest drivers
I am still getting often choppy scrollings in Safari.
Normal pages like Engadget and the Apple website are smooth,
but when i go to sites like Facebook, it immediately goes choppy. That's fine.
Yet nothing beats the choppiness (is that even a word ) in Adobe Reader
I am a university student and I need to view lecture notes in PDF format frequently in class.
Scrolling these files is not an enjoyable experience especially if the notes are long,
i mean it's mainly text inside these files and very rarely do you see an image,
so I'm guessing it's not a problem with the memory nor the HD5000 graphics.
You can call it stuttering or even frequent freezing coz it's simply UNBEARABLE.
Somehow i guess it might be either :
    1. Issues with the drivers (coz I've heard that the 2012 MBAs don't have this kind of problem)
    2. Adobe Reader for Mac is simply not well-built :s
    Specs:
    2013 Macbook Air
    Core i5 Haswell 1.3Ghz
    4GB Ram
    128GB SSD
    Anyone got solutions?
    Thanks in advance

  • Lion 10.7 & Adobe Reader 9.4.5 scrolling issue

I have a 2010 iMac i5 quad core w/ 8gb ram and 2011 macbook pro i7 quad core w/ 8gb ram .  After upgrading to Lion 10.7 the scrolling in adobe reader has become choppy and slow.
On my previous OS it scrolled and moved smooth as glass.  I have checked with a few friends and they are experienceing the same problem.
    Adobe....can you help us out?
Is anyone else experiencing the same issue?
P.S. Adobe, It would be nice to be able to use the pinch to zoom and image rotate feature in adobe reader with the new track pad hand gestures in Lion.......just sayin.

Thanks.  I will give it a try!

  • How do you keyboard scroll an Adobe Reader document the same way as a web page?

When I use the up and down arrows using a browser it simply scroll the page as a whole, not line for line. I can not seem to figure out how to do the same with Adobe Reader. I often have 2 column documents (similar to newspaper width) and find it frustrating scrolling as the cursor jumps around. It's not a smooth transition at all. I am often frustrated with this. How can I fix it? I searched and google and did not find anything. Automatic scroll is the closest I can get it to work. Seems like such a simple task is made complicated.

Windows 7. Document being opened directly with Adobe Reader X 10.1.8.24.
Like I said in the original post I'm using the arrow keys. The page up keys are for scrolling entire pages. I want to smooth scroll as you can with browsers. Can't seem to figure it out. The page keys are choppy and it's easy to loose your place this way. Using the arrow keys only scrows a cursor on the last page the cursor was on. If I skip from page 1 to 10 for example, and my cursor is still sitting on page 1, if I hit the arrow key, it brings me back to page 1.  I experience this on ALL systems using Adobe Reader.

  • Scrolling through PDF files is slow using Adobe Reader on MY MACBOOK pro with retina

Scrolling through PDF file using Adobe reader on my MACBOOK pro is very slow and stuters. That is even for small files. MAC preview and Adobe pro do not have this issue. It is only Adobe ready.
    Please advice.

Summarizing the problem specifics and versions for future readers:
There are two separate "slow scrolling" bugs in recent versions of Adobe Reader on Mac OS X. Symptoms: scrolling by mouse or fn + down arrow is very sluggish and laggy. It is not isolated to large or graphically complex documents. This 2 megabyte PDF shows illustrates the problem: http://www.hq.nasa.gov/alsj/nasa-tnd-6846pt.1.pdf
Problem 1: Adobe plug-in for Safari causes slow scrolling when viewing PDF documents within Safari. Solution: remove Adobe plugins from Mac HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins/AdobePDFViewer.plugin. I also deleted AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin. This will cause PDF display within Safari to revert to the built-in Apple PDF renderer, which is very fast. These files will be re-installed anytime you install or upgrade Adobe Reader.
Problem 2: Stand-alone Adobe Reader scrolling is slow starting with version 11.0.01. Version 10.1.4 and earlier are not slow. User CF McBlob did not experience this slowdown, but was also running Acrobat 10.1.7, which might have libraries which prevented the problem. I'll do further testing when possible to try and isolate more details.
    Platform specifics: OS X 10.8.4, late 2012 iMac 27", i7 3.4Ghz, 16GB RAM, 3TB Fusion drive, GPU = GTX675MX, 1GB

  • Scroll() in Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Reader X using Javascript

    Hi there,
Does someone know how scrolling works in Adobe Acrobat/Reader using javascript?
The scroll() functions needs two parameters: x and y.
How are these axises defined? Is this based per page or does the scrolling reference change every time the page changes?
Why we need to know this? We're making and application in Flash Builder that loads a PDF. External buttons need to call an embedded javascript within the PDF that scrolls up or down.
Anyone who can provide us with some information concerning this topic: thank you!
    Regards
    Mario

    Well,
It's hard to formulate: basically we need to understand how the scrolling is handled in Adobe Reader.
Like: why does the scrolling index change every time you change to a new page. It gets resetted or something.
Anyway: you cannot create a variable "scrollVerticalIndex" and "scrollHorizontalIndex" and increment it everytime you want to go down or up/left or right and say scroll(scrollHorizontalIndex, scrollVerticalIndex). Also, if you zoom in, the dimension of your page stay the same. We cannot find a way to calculate top or bottom of a document.
In a perfect world you could say: (height of a page) x ((number of pages)-1) = total height of the document (and thus the total amount you can scroll up/down). But that is just not the case...
We want to get an insight how the scrolling works :-)
Does this make sence ;-) ?

  • Adobe Reader xi: transparent toolbars and scrolling issues

Recently upgraded from v9 to v 11 on pc. Adobe Reader starts and opens PDFs. However, where the toolbars would normlly appear at the top of the screen they do not; instead there is space for the toolbars but the desktop is visible instead of the toolbars. The rest of Adobe Reader is visible on screen, e.g. the text of the pdf document being viewed, it is just the toolbars that don't appear; instead you can see through to the desktop where the toolbars would normally be. The toolbars are, in other words, completely transparent but the rest of Adobe Reader is visible. Other symptoms:
    - On scrolling within a PDF the text of the PDF becomes blurry and repeats itself down the screen
    - After a moment I also get an acrord32.exe error.
    - Tried to upgrade to Adobe Flash 11.7.700.169 and install failed: 'Unable to load application configuration'.

  • Page jumps when scrolling in adobe reader 9 on a Sunray pc

When viewing a pdf on the sunray machines the pdf jumps when being scrolled.  It appears to break up into sections as you scroll. but can be viewed fine on a general pc.  Can we fix this

    I also have this problem. 2 gig ram / athlon 2400+ @ 2.0 GHz. Adobe reader 9.0.0.0

  • Adobe Reader 9 highlights text when scrolling in terminal server

Running a terminal server with WIndow 2003.  Have Adobe 9 Reader installed.  When a pdf is opened, it will look correct.  However, when one uses the scroll bar on the right to see more of the document, text can be highlighted and change colors constantly when scrolling.
Test it outside of terminal server and it works fine.  This issue did not happen with other versions of Reader.  I have attached two samples one clean and one highlighted.
    Any help is appreciated

Very cool. Thanks for the info!

Okay. Here is what I found. These settings are changed\saved under the User settings in the registry. Here is the key the changes are made to:
    HKCU\Software\Adobe\Adobe Reader\9.0\Originals
When "NONE" is selected from Adobe Reader - Edit - Preferences - Page Display - Rendering, three DWORD values are added to the above mentioned registry key. These are:
    Value Name - Value Data
    *bAntialiasText - 0
    benableDDR - 0
    iAntialiasThreshold - 12*
I have added these lines to a login script that adds the necessary DWORD values to default the "Rendering" to NONE.
    *reg add "HKCU\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\Originals" /V bAntialiasText /T REG_DWORD /F /D 0
    reg add "HKCU\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\Originals" /V benableDDR /T REG_DWORD /F /D 0
    reg add "HKCU\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\Originals" /V iAntialiasThreshold /T REG_DWORD /F /D 12*
    Cheers!

  • Adobe Reader move the vertical scroll bar from left to right

    Hi,
is it possible to move the vertical scroll bar from left to right in Adobe Reader 9?
If not, are you planning to implement this functionality?

I meant from right to left, sorry
You see, I'm left handed and when I use the scroll bar that is on the right side with the left hand I don't actually see the content of the page, because my left hand is covering the screen (I'm browsing the internet in tablet mode and I use the pen to navigate between pages).
My system is a Tablet PC with Windows XP Tablet Edition 2005 and Adobe Reader 9.3.2.
P.S. can you edit my post so the google indexes it right? (
    from right to left
instead of "from left to right")

Adobe Reader XI version 11.0.07, Mac 10.9.3
Two-finger scroll works great in the main pane.  However it doesn't work in the comments list area (View -> Comments -> Annotations).
Dealing with 500+ annotations that I have to approve.  Not being able to scroll through them easily is frustrating.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

  • Why does my Adobe Reader DC stop working when I click scroll down options?

I used to use PDF Suite 2014 Standard to view pdf files.
However, tonight a message appeared when I attempted to open files saying ..."if the document does not load then the pdf viewer may not be able to display this type of document"

Dear Aedesh, Thank you for your assistance.  I did all that you instructed below, regarding uninstalling, and using the Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool.  I restarted my computer, then installed Adobe Acrobat Reader DC (for Windows 7, English and version: Reader DC 2015). I continue to have the problems: (1) When I attempt to use a scroll down option within a pdf form, the program stops working. (2) If I send the pdf to my iPhone, and I open the pdf, I receive the message "Please wait...if the message is not eventually replaced by the proper contents of the document, your pdf viewer may not be able to display this type of document..." However, when I send pdf's created earlier than 4-28-15, I am able to open in my iPhone.I am able to open on my laptop the pdf's created after 4-28-15, but have the scroll option issue  (thank you in advance for your patience)Luisa

  • 100% cpu when scrolling in Adobe Reader 8.1.2

I've installed Reader 8.1.2 on a 2003 Windows server STD Edition with SP1. Everytime I open a pdf document (regardless of what's contained in it)and I scroll using the mouse or the scroll bar the AcroRd32.exe process spikes near 100% utilization. The effect is, scrolling slows down extremely slow and you loose control of the scrolling until it stops. Once the scrolling stops the CPU utilization comes back down to zero for the AcroRd32.exe process.
Side note, I've tried different types of pdf documents, some with plain text and some with pictures. The same result occurs every time.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I also have this problem. 2 gig ram / athlon 2400+ @ 2.0 GHz. Adobe reader 9.0.0.0

  • Would an issue with Adobe Reader XI be the reason I would not have a scroll bar or another way to navigate a list on a website that requires Adobe?

The publisher of our text books have an online resource we use to access materials that requires the use of Adobe Reader. For the past few days I have been unable to navigate through the site because there is not a scroll bar or any method to move through the list using the navigation bookmarks provided for that purpose.  I have spoken, at length, with the online support team at the publishing company, and we have tried many trouble shooting steps.  The technician I was working with also checked on the Adobe website to see if he could find anything else.  He and I are both at a loss.  As the problem doesn't seem to be on his end (the publisher, website, etc) or my end (my settings for PDF on my computer, version of Adobe, platform, etc.), I am hoping someone might have an idea of how to help solve this issue.

My operating system is Windows 7,  I've tried both Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, and the Reader version is 11.0.09.  In Chrome, the Adobe PDF plugin has been enabled and "always allow" has been selected.  The Chrome PDF viewer had been disabled.  The adjustments have also been made in Firefox to use Adobe Acrobat.
I appreciate any help or advice you are able to offer.

  • Adobe Reader Bookmark panel scrolling

We have documents with a large number of bookmarks. We would like to be able to scroll through the bookmarks but there is no scroll bar on the bookmarks panel. The mouse wheel allows us to perform this action, however we are using a smartboard to display the pdfs so that's not an option.
Is there a way to display a scroll bar in the bookmarks panel or enable clicking and dragging in the panel to make it easier to scroll through the bookmarks?
    Thanks

I had the same issue and this post was the first result on Google. After seeing no replies I immediately gave up searching and instead dropped into Adobe Reader's View menu and started tinkering.
    SOLUTION:
It turns out Adobe Reader changes some settings on installation if it detects certain hardware (eg. a touchscreen). In this case the offending option is 'Touch Mode.' To get to the option (in Adobe Reader Xl v11.0.07 on Windows 7) go to 'View'->'Show/Hide'->'Toolbar Items' and click on 'Touch Mode.' There's a checkbox next to it that is always checked on my system but clicking it does seem to toggle a vertical scrollbar in the bookmarks pane.
I have no idea why someone at Adobe decided it would be a good idea to disable the scrollbar at all, ever. It makes it impossible to navigate large PDFs like technical manuals and there's no notice at all to the user that settings have been "optimized" for a touch interface.
It would be nice of the program to ask before doing in the future. But instead the distinctions between malware and products like Adboe Reader (with all its many issues, vulnerabilities and shady behind-the-scenes operations) continues to blur year after year. I hope this helps someone else having the same issue and maybe someone from Adobe might read this and take my advice to heart.
