Adobe reader corrupted icons

I attempted to convert a PDF file to Word, but didn't have the upgrade installed.
The attempt resulted in corrupted files to icons on my desktop. Now, I cannot
access files I was working on. Help!

  • Enabling usage rights in Adobe Reader corrupts PDF text

    Hi,
I've created a registration form using Open Office writer which has editable fields. I convert this to a PDF and then add a signature field in Acrobat 8.
At this point everything works fine, all the editable fields etc convert across, but I want people to be able to sign and save the form in Reader, so I check the "Enable Usage Rights in Adobe Reader" feature and save it. Now when I open the PDF in either Acrobat or Reader all the text is completely corrupted and illegible (see image).
Any idea what's going on here?
    Thank you
    Paul

    OK, here you go.

  • Preview, Adobe Reader, and icons

I take a PDF document that normally opens in Preview, go to the Get Info box, and change "Open With:" to Adobe Reader. The document's icon changes accordingly.
When I reopen the document, go to the Get Info box again to change "Open With:" back to Preview, the icon won't change back. Any clues as to why?

Below open with you will see a button marked CHANGE ALL click that and from then on any file with that particular extension will open with that app.

  • Adobe Reader Shortcut Icons don't display properly

Uninstalled and reinstalled latest version. Recently used program list on XP Home S3 Start Menu doesn't display Adobe logo and neither does Adobe Reader 9 shortcut on All Programs. PDF shortcuts display properly.
Tried to search knowledge base and found no relevant articles. I can't believe you have to buy support for Adobe products.
    Thanks

You can use Properties | Change Icon to adjust the icons on shortcuts.  Unfortunately this has to be done on each shortcut itself; it will not adjust all of them automatically.

  • Adobe Reader corrupted my .exe files

I downloaded Adobe Reader and it changed all my program icons to Adobe icons and programs won't open.  Programs try to open in Adobe Reader as .pdf files.  Error messages says it is not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged.
My computer is less than 2 weeks old and I can't access my programs.

I've got this problem. It would'nt allow me to system restore so I've had to uneinstall it. I'v tried to re-install it twice and each time it takes over all my icons and wont allow any of my programmes to open. This means I can't print off concert tickets or anything. Did you eventualy solve the problem?

  • Adobe Reader corrupted. Won't update

I thought  there was something wrong when I was downloading updates for the Adobe Reader 10 series when I already had Adobe 11 series. But the updates came right from Adobe, or at least they made themselves look like it. And the updates kep coming for the Adobe Reader 11.0.03 but will not download because they say there is a problem. So I am going to fix it once and for all by getting rid of Adobe Reader and reloading it from the Adobe page.
being the same place I was getting the bogus updates.
Can anyone tell me how to uninstall Adobe Reader altogether?

Okay. Use Terminal to forcibly remove it. Type the following command, with a space included, but DO NOT press enter yet.
    sudo rm -rf
Drag the application into the terminal window to complete the path. Again, do not press enter before you drag the Application into Terminal.
    It will look something like:
    sudo rm -rf /Applications/Adobe\ Reader.App

  • Adobe Reader XI - Icons In Windows 7

I'm using version 11.0.06 reader distributed by GPO and the icons simply do not appear, any solution?

    Hi Fusao,
If this installation is done using the deployment then they might have customized the installer.
For more information about customization you may visit this link : http://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/

  • Adobe Reader XI Icons

Sometimes my .pdf documents use the classic red Adobe icon, sometimes just a red word "Adobe" in the lower rt-hand corner of a white icon, or sometimes an all-white icon (similar to a .txt document).  Why?  Seems random, changes day-to-day and .pdf-to-.pdf.  Otherwise works OK     (Win 7/64/home prem)

    Hi Fusao,

  • I have an adobe reader updater icon stuck in my system tray

I have heard it is a virus. I have windows xp. How can I remove it from the system tray and remove the possible virus?
    Many thanks in advance!

Thank you atir-husain for your response. I finally did go to the adobe page
and download the latest version of the Reader. I'm afraid to download
anything from the tray after I downloaded a virus by trusting that it was
    actually Adobe when it wasn't.
After I downloaded the latest version the update did go away. I try to be
really careful now. I used to use AVG but after I got the virus I switched
to Security Essentials. I hope I don't have any more problems. Anyway thank
you for your help, I do appreciate it.

  • Adobe Reader PDF Desktop Icons No Longer Thumbnail Images

    Hi...
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium x 64 - and thanks to a fix for this I found somewhere a while ago, it's been working fine for the longest time.  In the past week, I see that my Adobe Reader desktop icons are no longer thumbnail images - they are back to the old standard Reader icons.  I've tried uninstalling / reinstalling Adobe Reader - unapplying / reapplying this x64 thumbnails fix - and combinations of the two.  Nothing has worked thus far.
Does anyone have a suggestion / fix / etc. on how I can get my PDF icons back to the thumbnail images - NOT the standard gray .PDF reader icons?
    Thanks so much!
    Andy

    Hi Jnicholas330,
I need your XFA form file to investigate the issue. I sent a separate mail to you.
    Thank you.

  • Adobe Reader 9 administrator accounts desktop icon

Does anyone know how to do the follow as it is quite Adobe 9 is quite annoying:
1 - take off the adobe reader 9 icon off the desktop -- it keeps recreating it after I delete it! NOW WHY WOULD adobe force this on us?
2 - under NON administrator accounts, PDF are no longer shown with the associated extensions. If logged under ADMINISTRATOR accounts, it works fine. Logging out and going back under non admin, shows pdf as unknown program extensions.
3 - how to install the adobe suite to whatever drive i want. there does not seem to be a choice for adobe reader and it installs to c and our drives are full on drive c now?
4 - Adobe - we have many people who can not read beyond 800x600 resolution. Lately your products are for the 1200 resolution range. Can you please make your boxes smaller as we can NOT press the OK box on many of the application windows.
5 - Why do we have to install Adobe AIR, Adobe.com etc. We do not want to install it. HOW do we NOT install it -- except for UNINSTALLING it after?
    thanks danny

    Danny,
I don't have reader installed so I cannot see some of what you are
seeing. Perhaps someone will drop by to help. Please do not address
Adobe here. This is a user to user forum. This is the best place to get
    Adobe's ear:

  • Adobe Reader will not set as default application for .pdf in windows 8.1 pro x64

When I install adobe reader the icon/app changes from windows reader to Pick an app, I choose change and select adobe reader, the icons on my desktop flicker but nothing actually changes.Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs\Set Default Programs\Set Program Associations, Select adobe reader, Choose defaults for this program, PDF is unticked so I tick it and choose save, go back in and it is unticked again??? Right click on a pdf file, choose open with, choose default program, use this app for all .pdf files is ticked, select adobe...Still nothing changes, stays on pick an app. I uninstall adobe reader then the pdf icon changes to and default opens with windows reader again. Reinstall adobe reader and back to the same thing. ???? I am a power user, build configure computers and subsequent software, started with DOS 6.0, learned unix/linux/networking concepts/networking security/server versions of windows/active directory. The only solution I could think of was to hack the registry which I looked for but could not find. I am running 8.1 pro x64, I just discovered that windows reader (which I cant uninstall) has the same problem when adobe reader is installed. Windows will not allow either one to be set as default while they co-exist.

After an extended session with chat only to be told that since Adobe Reader was free they could not help me :-(... I figured it out myself.
I opened a administrator: command prompt window and typed "regedit"  Through extensive searching and stumbled on this key located at... HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2274202122-2588692262-2244265822-1001_Classes\.pdf\OpenWithProgids  The S-1-5-21...1001... is my current logged on user, your value may differ slightly. Typically the builtin disabled administrator account is 1000 and when you install windows and create a user account "John Doe" it will have administrator priveleges and be auto numbered 1001, every user account created therafter will increase by 1 ie...1002, 1003, 1004 etc. even if you remove (delete) an account and re-create it you wont get the same number, the system will use the next number in sequence. The old one will have been trashed never to be used again. Again here is the key...
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2274202122-2588692262-2244265822-1001_Classes\.pdf\OpenWithProgids I deleted this key under (default) on the right side...
    Name                                                                       Type                                           Data
    (Default)                                                                   REG_SZ                                    (value not set)
AppX86746z2101ayy2ygv3g96e4eqdf8r99j            REG_NONE                              (zero-length binary value)  ---- This is the key to delete!!!
Personally I selected computer on the left side and the went to file/export then chose a file name [01 29 2014 regbackup.reg] and location. Then I selected "OpenWithProgids" and did the same thing,[pdf.reg] this saves a backup of the entire regestry and the key you are about to delete as a safety net. When you are done all you have to do is go to a pdf file, right click and choose open with...Adobe Reader - the box always use this app should already be checked.
I did this and it works yet because improper regestry modification can crash your system I am compelled to warn... Use at your own risk. If you are uncomfortable modifying your registry I would suggest consulting with someone qualified and has resources to do offline registry modifications/restorations which makes it VERY important to do the computer export registry backup.

  • Can't install Adobe Reader 8.1.2 to Mac OS X 10.5.3

Downloading the .dmg file was no problem, nor mounting it; but there's a circle with a slash through it over the Adobe Reader Installer icon, and if I double click it I get the following message:
You can't open the application "Adobe Reader 8 Installer.app" because it is not supported on this architecture.
I am running OS X 10.5.3 on a PowerPC G5 Dual Processor. All other Adobe programs including Acrobat and CS3 work fine. And now my existing installation of Reader won't start; I just see an hourglass.

Correct diagnosis. When I went back and downloaded the PowerPC version, it worked fine. The Intel version works fine on my MacBook Pro, too!

  • Adobe Reader 11.0.06 "not responding"

A new version of Adobe Reader; therefore, a new thread on a very old and obviously sore subject.
My previous version on Adobe Reader was working fine.  I don't know the version.
Yesterday I installed updates for two Adobe products.  One update was Reader 11.0.06.  Today I can open a .pdf file and get the first page.  After aproximately 7.4 seconds, the widows 7 screen shows "not responding".  I have to close Adobe Reader.
If I click on the "Adobe Reader XI" icon, the program comes up.  After aprox. 7.4 seconds my  Windows 7 screen shows "not responding".  I have to close Adobe Reader.
I have read several threads with somewhat similar problems on previous versions of Adobe Reader, but I know new versions have new bugs and previous workarounds may or may not apply.
Is anyone else having this problem?  Has anyone established a recommended set of workaround steps for this new version on Adobe Reader?

    Problem fixed....
I got an automatic message from HP to perform maintenance and HP would shut down Windows within one minute.
This was a first for my PC!  My multi-year old PC.
Thought... "maybe I should go along with this"
I closed all my open programs and waited.
HP shutdown and restarted my PC.
After the reboot, I went to unzip an Acrobat cleaner provided by Adobe Development.
After the unzip, I saw a .pdf in the directory.  What the... , why not click on it.  Reader was working.
Checked .pdfs that previously crashed.... all working...
    Go figure....
