Adobe reader deleted itself during 9.1 update!

I let Adobe reader try to upgrade itself to 9.1 while I was viewing a PDF from the web inside the Opera web browser. Everything seemed to be going fine. I got two notifications from the notification area (lower right screen) corner, saying that updates were ready. A bunch of dialog boxes and progress bars, including one that said "validating install." Then a message popped up saying that the install failed.
Then I went into C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0 and found it completely empty except for an emtpy "Resource" folder. I looked in the "uninstall a program" window in the control panel and Adobe Reader was not there. It is totally gone! I can't open PDFs by double clicking them. None of my web browsers can open PDFs either. This thing is GONE.
I am running Windows Vista Home Premium. I am running as standard user (not administrator). Using the Opera web browser.

This seems quite normal to me; it uninstalled 9.0 successfully, then unsuccessfully tried to install 9.1 - maybe it should have done a rollback...?
However, why not just retry the install of 9.1...?

  • My iPhone adobe reader for iOS6 is stuck in update state and will not complete updating any ideas?

My iPhone 4 adobe reader for iOS6 is stuck in update state and will not complete updating should I uninstall and reinstall the app?

The update process is handled entirely by iOS and unfortunately, there isn't anything the Reader can do during this process to prevent "stuck updates". Generally, we don't recommend uninstalling unless you have to because uninstalling will delete all of the PDF's in your documents!
Here are some steps that work for most users:
    1.       Make sure wifi and/or cellular data are turned on
    2.       Test to be sure your internet connection is working by opening safari and browsing to a website (like www.adobe.com).
    3.       Single tap the app’s icon on the home screen and it will pause the download. Now go back to the iTunes Apps store, switch to the “Updates” screen and click “Update” to resume the download.
    4.       If this doesn't work,  go to Settings -> iTunes & App Stores and tap the Apple ID to sign-out. Restart the iPad, go back to Settings -> iTunes Apps Store and sign-in. Tap the waiting icon to update the app.
Please let me know if this helps!

  • Adobe Reader won't open  Tried installing updated Adobe Reader and error came up in the process and told me to contact software manufacturer.  Could I uninstall current Adobe Reader and then try installing the current AR?  Any ideas?

My Adobe Reader wouldn't download tickets.  Tried opening Adobe Reader application but it would not open.  I saw my Adobe Reader needed to be updated, so I attempted to install new Adobe Reader.  When it came to finalizing, it said there is an error and can't do.  Any ideas?  I have no functioning Adobe reader.  Should I uninstall old Adobe Reader and then try installing the updated AR?

(Had to step away & do things) I can't even open up the Adobe Reader application to uninstall; get message it won't open. And now have more things needing to be downloaded to print.  Any ideas on how to open the app, so I can uninstall.  I have a MAC OS X 10.9.4  When the installation initially failed I received this message from Adobe, " Adobe Reader Installation Error  Package name Adobe Reader xi (11.0.07)  Installer: installing abase path/installer: The install failed  (The install encountered an error that caused the installation to fail.  Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.)  It did not specify what the error was

  • Adobe Reader closes itself automatically

I am using Windows 8.1, Word 2010 and Adobe Reader X. Any time a Word document is opene at the same time the Adobe reader closes itself automatically once the mouse cursor hits the Reader document. What can I do?

    Hi,
I would say you are definitely coming up against memory restrictions. There are a couple of posts by John Brinkman that I would recommend.
First I would look at why the form is 6Mb and see if you can reduce this down. For example, select fonts that are already in Reader (like Myriad Pro) and then deselect Embed Fonts in the File > Form Properties > Save Options. Also do not embed images into the form. See:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/formfeed/2010/02/big_and_complex_forms.html.
    http://blogs.adobe.com/formfeed/2010/09/xdp-size-matters.html.
    http://blogs.adobe.com/formfeed/2009/11/linked_vs_embedded_template_im.html.
Next look at your script. You mention loops, so check is your script efficient. For example, use xfa.resolveNodes() once outside of the loop, instead of xfa.resolveNode() inside the loop. Make sure that variables are declared. See:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/formfeed/2011/10/script-performance-exercise.html.
    http://assure.ly/kUP02y.
Also check for any script that you have in events that fire frequently, like layout:ready event and comment these out. See.
    http://assure.ly/nB0Bvz.
The dataset seems very large at 2Mb. Does this include image data? It may be that the user is interacting with the form, while it is still trying to process the XML and the loops.
    Hope that helps,
    Niall

  • Siri is working in Adobe Reader App since iOS 8.2 update.

I have been using the Adobe Reader app for two years.  Since the iOS 8.2 update, I can not edit text in PDF form fields using Siri for dictation.  It worked great in iOS 8.1 and 8.2.  Any help would be appreciated.

Duplicate post by the same user.
Since updating to iOS 8.2 I can not use Siri to enter text into a text field on a fillable form.  It works until I re-enter a field that already has text in it.  Thank you for any help you can provide me.

    Hello togehter.
Since the newest Update for the Adobe Reader X (Version 10.1, released 14.6.2011) a lot of our employers in our company have the problem that only the 1. PDF opens fast, the 2. PDF take 5 to 10 seconds to open, sometimes the hole programm crash down. A special effect is that when they open the 2. PDF instead of a doubleklick with drag an drop (the pick the file an bank it in the already open pdf) the pdf opens fast.
    Facts:
-Doesn't matter if the file is big or not
-Doesn't matter if the file is local or on the netzwork
We have no idea why we have this problem!
    Thank you for your help!
    Kind regards,

  • Reader deleted itself?

I was updating Reader from the Adobe Update thingy and then my Internet disconnected for a few seconds. After this, I tried to open a PDF and noticed that Reader was nowhere to be found. In my Program Files, an Adobe folder still exists. Reader wasn't in the Control Panel to uninstall, so I tried to reinstall it. And when I did, I got Error 1303, saying it has insufficient access to the directory C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Resource\Font\PFM and the computer won't let me access the folder either. Help?

That depends a little bit on your Windows version and file system of your C: drive.  But basically you
    open Windows Explorer
navigate to the folder you want to check/change permission
right-click on it, then select Properties
    click on the Security tab
select the user you do the install under
verify that 'Full Control' is checked

  • Why does Adobe Reader continue to state a software update is available after 9.4.4 security patch?

Applied security patch 9.4.4 to Adobe Reader and it continues to state that there is a software update available.  It will download the same 9.4.4 patch and nothing changes - the "about adobe reader" does state it is 9.4.4 release.

You'll get a response if you report this problem on the Acrobat Reader forum.

during the first installation shows the error 150330
    - Operating system windows 7 ultimate
    - I have run all updates windows

Is there anything else beside the number 150330?
Try uninstalling any installed Reader versions using http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
then reinstall with the installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

  • Adobe reader 11 Hang during 1-2 minutes when opening a file

    Hello,
We are very unhappy with Acrobat Reader. We have Some Hangs/Crash into us computers.
With adobe acrobat reader upper tan 11.0.3  hang when start (open a file) during... approx 2 minutes.  During the Hang, Acrobat Reader be unresponsive.
I tried to change the protected mode. change nothing. I can saw is when Acrobat Reader start the Tools Menu (for me).
I tried to completely uninstall(registry and folders cleanup too) and do a fresh install, changed nothing.
If we use 11.0.3 or 10.0.X, we don't have problems.
Maybe the UTM firewall block something ?
I need help, why i think we going to use Foxit if we don't fund the problem.
    Best Regards
    Vincent

    Hello,
No, i checked. I bypassed the UTM Firewall and do same.
Yes, I can contact the cloud.acrobat.com, with or without firewall.
I bypassed the Anti-Virus, same problem.
I unchecked the "enable protection mode". Same.
I modified the registry to be like this :
    64-bit:
    Keypath:          HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\FeatureLockDown
    Value name:   bProtectedMode
    Value type:     REG_DWORD
    Value data:     0
    32-bit:
    Keypath:          HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\FeatureLockDown
    Value name:   bProtectedMode
    Value type:     REG_DWORD
    Value data:     0
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\IPM]
    "bDontShowMsgWhenViewingDoc"=dword:00000001
    "bShowMsgAtLaunch"=dword:00000000
I saw one way to investigate !    We got a shortcut here  (power injection tests) and the network switch goes off. During the network was disconnected, the Reader work. (Only a little hang of 1-2 seconds during opening file instead the 3-5minutes Hang ). I successfully reproduce them simply with disable the network card.
Please Adobe Team : Help me to investigate, to debug.
I saw nothing bad with ProcessExplorer. I do a minidump.
Which tool I can use to understand ?    Wireshark ?

  • IPad went into recovery mode by itself during/after ios7 update. help please.

My ipad went into recovery mode during or after the ios7 update. i forgot to back up my files and now i need the notes from it. i am unsure if they are syncd to my gmail but i am not syncd to icloud. is there anyway to get my files back?
i have tried using all sorts of programs like redsn0w and tinyumbrella to try and kick it out of recovery mode. But every time i try and get out it just loops back to the itunes and cable logo. is there anyway i can get out without restoring and or losing the files inside the ipad. or is there a way to access the files while in recovery mode. thanks in advance or the help.

I have experienced a similar error with the iPhone 4S.  The new version of iTunes will not let me restore the phone, it must be updated and nothing appears to be happening.  Suffice it to say I am not amused.  Apple needs to work this out - I had trouble updating to 8.0.2 as well.

  • Adobe Reader 8: How to stop automatic updates

Today, I noticed that my system was trying to download 8.1.2.
I did not request a check for updates.
How do I disable the automatic downloading of updates?
I loke thru Edit | Preferences and did not find any options to do so.

    Did you reboot?
I've never seen the Add/Remove programs list go away, that indicates a deeper problem.
After rebooting, do you see the Add/Remove programs list?
If not, open the Control Panel, right click and select refresh.
    Does that fix things?
If not, I suggest posing this question in the microsoft.public.* newsgroup for your OS.

  • Adobe Reader deleted document

can I retrieve a deleted document that I annotaded?

No, but if a third party gave the document to you, you can ask them to send another copy to you. You will have lost your annotations though. Sorry.

  • Adobe reader is incompatible with Windows 8.1 and freezes and exits itself in a minute after loading

Can someone help me out to fix this issue?

    Some things to try...
Assuming that you use Reader XI, update to 11.0.5
Using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement
Can you open Adobe Reader by itself?  If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
If you cannot open Reader by itself, try to disable Protected Mode in the registry; download, unzip, then run the attached registry script
It could even be a malware issue; see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/reader-core-dll-error.html
