Adobe reader don't recognize the euro sign

I installed adobe reader on 2 pc's with windows xp sp3.
On one pc the euro sign in the pdf file is normal and on the
other pc the euro sign will not be recognized.
I did install adobe reader 9 on both pc's again, but
still the same.
What can be the cause???
I hope to hear from somebody with the same problem
and how to solve it.

In order to help you better please let me know which operating system you are using name and version of operating system.
Also let me know what is happening when you are trying to open the pdf document.
You may try right click on the pdf document and choose option open with and browse for reader application if you are using windows.

b)PC with Windows XP Home SP3 and Adobe Reader 9.1.2 netherlands
When I open a PDF file on computer b) the euro sign € shows correct
but
When I open the same PDF file on computer a) the euro sign € shows not correct
Do somebody has an explanation for this??

I am very frustrated as I have done nothing to change anything, and I was thinking this was so great...now I am just pulling out my hair and do not have the option of calling anyone since no phone numbers are listed. I am VERY busy and do not have time to sit and wait over a half an hour to "chat", which I tried to do yesterday. All I want to do is very simply, convert pdfs to Word. I have paid for this and am not getting any help. I am not very savvy when it comes to Adobe this program and Adobe that program...I feel I am being scammed as I do not get simple answers for something that appeared was going to be simple. You can't even call customer service to talk to someone live to help walk you through.

Please let me know if you have tried converting any other PDF to word with Reader.
Alos, please sign up at "https://cloud.acrobat.com/" using your Adobe ID credentials. Click on 'ExportPDF' tab and upload the PDF that you want to convert to Word.
Let me know if this converts fine.

When I try open a .pdf file my Adobe Reader 11 only allows the download / save opening the related window and don't show me both options 1) open with ... and 2) save as.... probably someone flagged the choise... always perform this way ....

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print or save PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to do so by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar should appear under the cursor. Click the printer or disk icon.
Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
          Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
and check the box marked
          Allow Plug-ins
Then click
          Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
In the Finder, select
          Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others—I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

Adobe Reader does not recognize file name (filename10.5.11.pdf) but does in Adobe Standard 9. Why?

I post documents to our Intranet site and found out recently that Adobe Reader does not recognize certain file names in PDF files. For instance, when trying to open a PDF file with the name
filename10.5.11.pdf in Adobe Reader, the web browser will not open the PDF and the display is blank.   When I'm using another computer with Adobe Standard 9, I do not have a problem opening the file.
I would like to know if anyone else has had a similar issue and why Reader will not recognize the file name and Standard does.

The version is Adobe Reader 10.1.0    I will request the latest version
and let you know if that fixes the problem
Actually I had changed the name of the file so our associates could access
the file (changed the . to a hyphen) It still made me wonder why Reader
wouldn't open it at that time.

Could you also let me know what is the exact version of Adobe Reader on
your system. You can check the same y clicking on Help > About Adobe
Reader X.
In case its not 10.1.1, please try updating to the latest version and see
if the problem persists.
Also, does any other PDF with a different filename open in Internet
Explorer correctly?

Quicktime Applets and Adobe Reader don't work in Safari

If I am on a website that requires Quicktime, Adobe Reader or an applet, nothing works. With Quicktime the only thing that appears is the scroll bar with sound but no movie, with Adobe Reader or an applet the only thing that comes up is the logo. I have re-installed the plug-ins but still nothing. I have 3 Mac Pros in my small office and one at home and it is the same on all computers. I have to use Firefox which works great. I am running Leopard 10.5.3.
Any suggestions?

I tried Lynda.com and it has a script that causes Flash 9 to run slowly, so I aborted that. Apple.com doesn't play trailers for me, either; it doesn't even show any link is active on the trailers, so that could be a coding issue specific to Safari, as Camino and Firefox don't pose any problem.
Safari has the ability to view PDFs without any plug-ins. You can disable the Acrobat Reader plug-in either by removing it from ~/Library/InternetPlug-Ins, or launching Acrobat Reader, go to Preferences>Internet and uncheck the box labeled "Display PDF in browser using…"; then quit Acrobat Reader and Safari, relaunch and try again.

My mc mini run only under windows and don't recognize the keyboard

After installing boot amp and windows 7 the Mac mini run always under window 7, don't recognize the wireless keyboard. Normally I have to push the power button and alt to return on the Mac interface but now it's impossible. Do you have any idea how I could run the Mac interface from window ?

Have you tried pressing key combination Alt(Option) + 2 - it should give you this € (using a UK keyboard).

Problem inserting the euro sign using JDBC

Inserting the euro sign into a char field of a DB2 table using JDBC results in getting a control char (SUBSTITUTE / ASCII 26) in the field, instead of the expected euro sign.
I tried both the "old" DB2 driver (db2driver.zip) and the new one (db2jcc.jar). I get the same result in both cases. I also thought this might be a problem of different character sets between the client machine and the database server, but the problem doesn't occur if i use non java third party tools (like WinSQL) to insert the euro sign...
Any idea?

Something like below will verify that you can send the character to the database, store it, and return it with java. You need to run this in a Unicode compliant tool, like Eclipse 3.0.

In My company actually have problems with the Adobe reader update, we had worked in various solutions for example , in the program option Edit/preferences option update and check in No download.... other was program files/common files/Adobe/ rename the folder update with other character or other name.
this solutions was not succesfull , I have the problem yet.
I need help with this situation because my data channel is not working correctly, my users have problems.
If somebody know about one solutions please help me!

If you have a Windows Domain environment in your company and domain controllers are Windows 2008/2008 R2, than you can use this Grou Policy Templates: https://sourceforge.net/projects/customadmx/
They are capable of switching auto updates off.

Does Adobe Reader have a "recognize text" tool, or do I have to buy a version to get this feature? What is the least expensive version that offers this feature? My goal to have PDF version text documents that can be read by a text to speech application, like EZ PDF Reader.

Definitely not in Reader. I believe (though cannot personally confirm) that Acrobat Standard has it.
Bear in mind that you need good quality originals, well scanned, to get any kind of decent result. Computers are way worse at this than humans.
Bear in mind too that Recognise Text is only applicable to scanned documents NOT those made from Word or whatever. So if you are making the documents, it is rarely relevant.
