Adobe Reader Error (21)

Please help!
When trying to save a PDF file to Adobe; I keep getting this error message: "The document could not be saved. There was a problem reading the document. (21) After I close the box, a separate box pops up stating: "Insufficient data for an image." I've tried to update Adobe and also tried the fix, I currently have Adobe Reader 11.0.10. Afterwards the image is distorted and missing things. Please help me!!

Ok, I have a workaround.
First, a preface for the Adobe folks: I had been going to my banking websites (I have more than one) and clicking on their button to download my monthly statement in PDF format. My IE11 browser always offers me the choice to Open, or Save, or Save As. Habitually, each month I select Open so I can first view the document then, in the Adobe reader itself, I click File then Save As. Once I click the final button to actually save it, is when the Error 21 pop-up appears. I noticed that I have no problem when doing the same thing today from another online bank, or from online websites that are not banks. I felt I had isolated the problem to just one certain online bank.
So I called that bank today asking if anyone else had called them to report this problem. Apparently I was not the first one to call because they brought a lady to the phone who acknowledged I was having Error 21 and asked me if the pop-up I saw said their bank name or if it said Adobe. I replied Adobe. She then told me to do this:
The workaround: when my browser offers me the choice to Open, or Save, or Save As, I am to select Save (not Open and not Save As) and let the PDF save itself to my Downloads folder. I did this and it saved. Then, I went to my Downloads folder, found it there under some generic filename they chose (Estatement.pdf) and I opened it and closed it with no errors. So far, so good. I even had her wait while I moved it to the folder where I wanted it to be, and even renamed it, and it's there and saved with no errors. Opens and closes ok. Yay.
She said it is an Adobe problem and that Adobe is working on it. I asked her how did she know that, was the bank in dialogue with Adobe? She said no, they just went to the Adobe site (probably this thread!) and saw where Adobe said they were working on it! She said it is happening because the file is encrypted. I asked her why then does this work ok for my other bank, surely they encrypt as well. Here's where I should have written down exactly what she said. She said something like the other bank probably used different encryption like SSL (?) but this bank changed away from that because it got hacked. I can't recall what type of encryption she said they used.
Anyway, that workaround worked for me. Hope this helps.

  • Adobe Reader error with PDF reports created using AS Reports Server 10g

    Hi,
Recently when trying to run reports in our system (which uses Oracle Application Server Forms & Reports Services 10g - 10.1.2.0.2), sometimes when we try to run a report in PDF format the following happens:
    1. A new window appears as expected
    2. This window hangs/appears to try to load for a couple of minutes
    3. Eventually an Adobe Reader error message appears saying the following:
*"There is a problem With Adobe Acrobat/Reader. Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and try again".*
I have noticed that this problem only seems to occur when the client has Adobe Reader 9.3 installed (8.2 works fine).
Has anyone else encountered this problem? Is there a known workaround or is this a known issue?
    Many thanks,
    Chris

Does anyone have any ideas on this or has anyone encountered the same problem?
    thanks

  • Adobe reader error - Faulty module: Comctl32.dll

Adobe reader error - Faulty module:  Comctl32.dll

Computer is ACER Aspire -4830TG laptop, with 8GB RAM, i5-2430M intel processor.

    Size is 619KB
Reader will initialize, but blank out and freeze as soon as it attempts to do anything, including displaying a menu bar.  I have reinstalled Reader several times and have removed it first.  It appears that the issue is really the Comctl32.dll file.  There are so many versions on my system can't figure out how to tell if it is corrupt.
    Virus scan shows no risks.
Unable to rollback far enough to make a difference.

if you're using windows, click the start button>control panel>uninstall programs> and check for adobe acrobat and adobe reader.  don't uninstall anything if you find it.
but if you find no acrobat/reader run the cleaner (Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs) and then try and install adobe reader.

  • PDF won't open on Mac with Adobe Reader Error message:Adobe Reader could not open

I have Adobe Reader 10.1.3 for Mac, (10.7.3) and am having problems opening pdfs.  I get an error message: Adobe Reader could not open file name.pdf because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded). The files are not from emails, but are from websites, government sites, professional organizations etc.)  Help! Adobe is no help!

Manually download the files to your computer (right-click on the url). When the file is downloaded to your computer do you get the same message when you try to open in Reader through the File->Open menu? What about when you open the file in Mac's Preview application?

  • Rusty Solomon : Adobe Reader Error while opening pdf files

    Hello everyone,
I have a systematic error opening PDF files with Adobe Reader X (10.1.1)
"Adobe Reader has encountered a problem and needs to close. Please excuse us for the inconvenience."
By waiting I installed Foxit but I would understand.
I uninstalled Adobe and reinstalled but it's still the same.
Thank you for your answers in advance
    Rusty Solomon

First I would try to update to 11.1.8.
If that does not fix it, tell us your operating system.

  • There is an internal Adobe Reader error while copying to the Clipboard.

Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64 bits
    Adobe Reader Vesion: XI
That error is very easy to reproduce: select two or more lines of a pdf document and press "cntl + C" several times in repetition. Frequently 4 ou 5 followed repetitions trigger that issue. A curious thing happens when "cntl + C" starts to fail: the copying process through "Edit > Copy" menu still works. But if you try repeated times to copying through "Edit > Copy" menu, then this method also starts to fail too, but at the same time of this failure, "cntrl + c" starts to work again (it is like a seesaw).
My computer has no skype plugin installed, so the skype plugin + Internet Explorer is not the root cause of that issue.
This problem occurs even if I am running only Adobe Reader XI application, i. e., without start Internet Explorer, or any office application, or windows live messenger, or skype, etc.

    in windows 7
    start-control panel-uninstall programs
uninstall the "Skype Click to Call", this will uninstall addins from ie, firefox, you dont have to uninstall skype.
in ie and firefox you can disable addons but can not uninstall them using ie or firefox interface, when you uninstall Skype Click to Call, it will remove it from all added browsers.
    This works me now.
    Edit 1:
Unfortunately skype trick does not work.
I recently switched to windows 8 and reliazed that there is no copy error any more.
    Edit2:
This error maybe caused by Babylon dictionary which has an Adobe Acrobat or Reader addon which captures the text from pdf documnet when ctrl+right mouse click. This feature is enabled when it is copied to" C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\Acrobat\plug_ins " or  "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\plug_ins " directory, so if it is copied such copying error appeared, if not copied it does not appear. Baylon dictionary addin is installed when you install babylon dictionary software, and it is here " C:\Program Files (x86)\Babylon\Babylon-Pro\Utils ", its name is " BabylonRPI.api "
    Edit3:06-April-2013
My experience is that Babylon Dictionary was causing this error. With babylon version 10 acrobat does not give that kind of error anymore, on windows 7 x64, but previous version leftover files may cause this error again even if you remove previous versions and install version 10. With a clean install of windows 7 x64 with babylon dictionary version 10 there is no error anymore.

  • Need help installing Adobe Reader, Error 1402

Hello, this is my first time here at the forums.
So my problem is obviously having trouble installing Adobe Reader X (Latest Version) I had to reinstall it due to this error,
I've tried looking at these steps: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/329/329137.html but they didn't work.
I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit.
I get stuck at step 10 of More Solutions (Advanced)
The error I get when I try to 'Replace permission on all child objects with entries shown here that apply to child objects' is:
Auditing - 'Registry Editor could not set security in the key currently selected, or some of its subkeys.
The key that cannot be opened during installation is in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE32\Software\Classes\PDF.PdfCtrl.6\CLSID
    Notes:
I've already set full permission to access this key.
The 'Replace permission on all child objects with entries shown here that apply to child objects' checkbox is actually named
'Replace all existing inheritable permissions on all descendants with inheritable permissions from this object' on my Windows, I think it's basically the same thing, because it's in the same spot as the one in the support picture, so I'm just assuming that's Windows 7 and I'm using Vista which shouldn't be too different.
I've already followed all the instructions correctly, and I don't have spysweeper, McAfee on my system or any viruses/spyware, I update Windows regularly and my AntiVirus is Norton AntiVirus which is updated as well, and this doesn't seem to interfere with the installation files as you can see this is a registry problem.

Please confirm the Reader version and the operating system.
    You can Follow http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/error-1935-install-acrobat-reader.html article.

  • Installing Adobe Reader-Error msgs

I am trying to update my adobe reader on my computer.  I keep getting an error message stating that the indexing service filter daemon is in use. I have closed everything and it says it gets to 96% and gives the same error message. What should I do now? Any help would be appreciated, thank you.
    Cindy Heller

You can try using this tool to first remove all traces of Reader from your computer:
    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Then, you can download the full offline Reader installer from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else.

  • Adobe Reader error with SAP interactive form in Web dynpro ABAP

    Hi,
We are having a strange intermittent problem with Adobe Reader. When we try to open PDF files from SAP Frontend we get an error pop-up. The pop-up does not have any text. The title of the pop-up has "Adobe Reader". There is a blue question mark and an OK button. The form is inserted into Web Dynpro ABAP page. This web dynpro application is executed in SAP GUI by this program:

    Adobe Reader version is 9.1.2
Is there any solution for this?
    Many thanks for answer.

    Jiri,
The reason why I thought downgrading would help is because Reader 9 and above is probably not fully supported by SAP yet.
You can maybe open an OSS and see if Adobe 9 is fully supported or not.

  • Adobe Reader Error Code 1310. Error writing to file: C:\ProgramFiles(x86)...

I have been forced to Sumatra by some error in the system.  When I download Adobe Reader 10, during setup, it stops and produces an error window that says 'Error 131. Error writing to file:  C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\Adobe\Reader10.0\Esl\Aiodlite.dll. Verify you have access to that directory'...Retry? Cancel? Retry. Then continues then stops at 'Error 1310. Error writing to file.....Reader10.0\CoolType.dll. Verify that you.... then Retry again and it finishes. Then all Icons on my desktop become Adobe Icons. When I click on the 'Adobe reader 10.0 Icon it says "Adobe Reader could not open 'AcroRd32.exe' because it is either not a supported file type or the file has been damaged (for example , it was sent as an email attachment was not correctly decoded)." I have been through this many times with Internet Explorer and Safari with only minor differences as Safari doesn't give me the difficulties with the setup but does have the same effect. I have tried to go back to older versions of Adobe Reader..9.0 and 9.3 to the same end. The only thing I can think of is that I removed Zinio Reader 4, that was necessary for the online magazines that I get from Mother Earth News and others, but thought I was having difficulty due to it being the only recent addition to my PC. I think somehow it may have taken something with it. Anyway I'm an older not so computer literate entreprenuer that has been forced to this and man do I need help.
