Adobe reader error - Faulty module: Comctl32.dll
Running Windows 7 Home Premium, SP 1.
Computer is ACER Aspire -4830TG laptop, with 8GB RAM, i5-2430M intel processor.
Not sure when this happened, but am unable to open Adobe Reader 10. Error indicates the fault module to be Comctl32.dll, specifically,
C:\Windows\WinSxS\x86_microsoft.windows.common-controls_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.7601.17514_n one_41e6975e2bd6f2b2\Comctl32.dll
Size is 619KB
Reader will initialize, but blank out and freeze as soon as it attempts to do anything, including displaying a menu bar. I have reinstalled Reader several times and have removed it first. It appears that the issue is really the Comctl32.dll file. There are so many versions on my system can't figure out how to tell if it is corrupt.
Virus scan shows no risks.
Unable to rollback far enough to make a difference.
Anyone else have a problem like this?

Signature error in Module msvcr80.dll

Using PSE 7 under Windows Xp Service Pack 3.
I was using the Editor and then decided to try the Demo of Elemenst+. On reopening the Editor I got a Signature error in Module msvcr80.dll version 8.0.50727.4053.
As I also have PSE 5 on my system, which is still working correctly, I looked for its msvcr80.dll; found it with a version of 8.0.50727.42.
Replaced the 8.0.50727.762 in:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 7.0\Microsoft.VC80.CRT
with Version 8.0.50727.42
On Opening the Editor the same Signature error.
Note still reporting 8.0.50727.4053 Not 8.0.50727.42 So reports 8.0.50727.4053 whether .42 or 762 installed - providing Editor is reading C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 7.0\Microsoft.VC80.CRT for its msvcr80.dll. (I have searched for msvcr80.dll and only found the above path for PSE 7.0 but there is another, 4053, in C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.VC80.CRT_1f......7989 and also 762 and 3053 in C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.VC80.CRT_....... )
I did see a suggestion of using the msvcr80.dll from the Installation Disk but this is just a giant cab file; msvcr80.dll not listed seperately.
I have used System restore to go back before adding Elements+ but no luck!
Before I reinstall or even reformat can anyone please help?

I have now managed to extract msvcr80.dll from my PSE 7 installation disk via WinZIP.
It has Version 8.0.50727.762 I have placed it in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 7.0\Microsoft.VC80.CRT to no avail. Note the manifest file in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 7.0\Microsoft.VC80.CRT is looking for version 8.0.50727.762
I note that the error report I could send to Microsoft still has mention of Elements+ even though I have restored my setup to before it was installed?

Adobe Reader error with PDF reports created using AS Reports Server 10g

Hi,
Recently when trying to run reports in our system (which uses Oracle Application Server Forms & Reports Services 10g - 10.1.2.0.2), sometimes when we try to run a report in PDF format the following happens:
1. A new window appears as expected
2. This window hangs/appears to try to load for a couple of minutes
3. Eventually an Adobe Reader error message appears saying the following:
*"There is a problem With Adobe Acrobat/Reader. Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and try again".*
I have noticed that this problem only seems to occur when the client has Adobe Reader 9.3 installed (8.2 works fine).
Has anyone else encountered this problem? Is there a known workaround or is this a known issue?

if you're using windows, click the start button>control panel>uninstall programs> and check for adobe acrobat and adobe reader. don't uninstall anything if you find it.
but if you find no acrobat/reader run the cleaner (Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs) and then try and install adobe reader.

Same problem here using Preview: "The file 'Digital Booklet - Songs of Innocence.pdf' could not be opened. It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn't recognize." Was also unable to open the file in Acrobat with similar. The file is corrupt.

Signing into adobe reader error

While trying to sign on to adobe reader I get the following message "an error has occurred while signing in" However I know my e-mail address and password are correct as I can sign into adobe.com. Any suggestions on what to do?

Windows Server 2008 R2 - Multiple application errors in module MSVCR90.DLL

I'm having some trouble with one of the terminal servers that I administrate, lately there have been a large number of application errors reported by users. Looking at the logs they all have in common that they report MSVCR90.DLL as the faulty module, with
some of the applications throwing errors being fixmapi.exe, iexplore.exe & acrord32.exe.
I did some searching around and tried the usual things of uninstalling and reinstalling the mvc redist, however it doesn't appear to have made much of a difference. I configured capture of user-mode dumps as mentioned in http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_programs/repeated-appcrash-errors-across-many-applications/18ee194c-56dd-4909-abed-e563de11713b
which seems to be recommended as a way to find the real faulty module that is behind all the problems, so far I've generated one dumpfile at least for a fixmapi.exe but I am not sure how to parse it, does anyone have any idea?

Would you please let me know whether install all necessary updates on the problem computer? Please run
sfc /scannow command to scan all protected system files. In addition, please perform a
clean boot and check if this issue still exist.

Upon start up of my PC, an error message occurs that states, 'The application was was unable to start correctly(0xc000007b)" Reader isn't functioning properly and any programs that require it cannot be used(i.e. itunes, etc) My computer operating system is windows 7, 64 bit. The reader came with the computer. I am an unskilled pc user but can follow written instructions to troubleshoot. thanks in advance for any help you may give!

My Reader version was an older one , so I downloaded the latest on the website. I shut down and restarted the computer but the error notice is still present.
Also, when I attempted to open Reader in protected mode, the following error message appeared ," Fatal Error Acrobat failed to load it's core DLL.
I downloaded the anti malware program at adobe help and ran the scan, restarted the computer and the error message still pops up. Are there any other actions you might suggest?

Adobe Reader Error Code 1310. Error writing to file: C:\ProgramFiles(x86)...

I have been forced to Sumatra by some error in the system. When I download Adobe Reader 10, during setup, it stops and produces an error window that says 'Error 131. Error writing to file: C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\Adobe\Reader10.0\Esl\Aiodlite.dll. Verify you have access to that directory'...Retry? Cancel? Retry. Then continues then stops at 'Error 1310. Error writing to file.....Reader10.0\CoolType.dll. Verify that you.... then Retry again and it finishes. Then all Icons on my desktop become Adobe Icons. When I click on the 'Adobe reader 10.0 Icon it says "Adobe Reader could not open 'AcroRd32.exe' because it is either not a supported file type or the file has been damaged (for example , it was sent as an email attachment was not correctly decoded)." I have been through this many times with Internet Explorer and Safari with only minor differences as Safari doesn't give me the difficulties with the setup but does have the same effect. I have tried to go back to older versions of Adobe Reader..9.0 and 9.3 to the same end. The only thing I can think of is that I removed Zinio Reader 4, that was necessary for the online magazines that I get from Mother Earth News and others, but thought I was having difficulty due to it being the only recent addition to my PC. I think somehow it may have taken something with it. Anyway I'm an older not so computer literate entreprenuer that has been forced to this and man do I need help.

Adobe Reader Error Code 10016 on 2008r2 Servers. Help!!

When opening pdf documents with bookmarks I get an error listed in Windows 2008r2 event viewer. It is error code 10016. If the pdf does not have bookmarks then I do not get error. Below is the error message. It appears to have something to do with Windows Color System, and in particular, wcspluginservice.dll. I have tried changing the security on the dcom object, but it does not help. I am having this same issue on multiple servers. Any help much appreciated. Thanks.

It is 2008r2 64-BIT. I am using Adobe Reader X 10.1.4. I am having this issue on all pdfs with bookmarks so not convinced that it is just one particular pdf file. Also, I have since disabled the "Windows Color System" service, which will now force Windows to open pdfs using native Microsoft color rendering instead of using Adobe's extensions. This has proven to resolved my issues thus far.

Keep getting message Adobe Reader failed to download core DLL

I have Adobe Reader and I use Widows 7. I had used the Adobe Reader with no problems, however, just recently, when I tried to open the program, I got the message "because of compatibility problems, Adobe Reader cannot open in protected mode", so I clicked the option to allow it to open without protected mode, and I keep getting the message "Adobe Reader failed to download its core DLL". ADobe Reader error while opening CRYSTAL REPORT

i HAVE INVOKED A CRYSTAL REPORT USING A JSP , AND COULD EVEN EXPORT THAT TO A PDF FILE ,but when i try to open that particular file using the adobe reader am getting the error given below.

I get an error message: Adobe Reader could not open file name.pdf because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded). The files are not from emails, but are from websites, government sites, professional organizations etc.) Help! Adobe is no help!

Manually download the files to your computer (right-click on the url). When the file is downloaded to your computer do you get the same message when you try to open in Reader through the File->Open menu? What about when you open the file in Mac's Preview application?
