Adobe Reader File History Help?

I want to delete items from my history in Adobe Reader. I have already deleted the files, but if I go to File-Open Recent File-View All Recent Files, I can still see the name of the files that I deleted. I am on a Macbook Air, and have tried to go to Preferences and set the number of documents in the recently used list to 1, but it does not effect the history in the View all recent files area. Please help! This is the area that I want to delete the history from:

Unfortunately, it can only be done by editing the Registry. If you wish I can explain how to do it, but you do so *at your own risk*.
Edit: I'm noticing you're using a Mac. I'm afraid I can't help you in that case, but you should try to google it.

  • How can I transfer an adobe reader file to Microsoft word?

I have Windows Vista on my machine. I really need to transfer an Adobe reader file into Microsoft word or at least be able to type inside of Adobe. Just wondering how can I do this task or am I just not able to?
Any help or suggestions out there..?

That would require using Adobe Acrobat. It can create Word docs from PDF's.
The bad news is, most of the time it doesn't do a very good job at it.
With Acrobat, you could also add form fields that you can fill in which would be much better.

  • Open adobe reader file - read option - instead of open

When I try to open a adobe reader file by right clicking it I get " read" instead of "open " file.
please see attached file for an example of what I mean.
In the attahed printed screen file it says open - this is OK.
but in my other pc I have only "read" not open.
    your help would be appreciated
    Thanks
    Omer

If I press Read the file opens OK with no problem.
The problem is that if I try to open the same file from a third party program it does not open .
The file looks like it does know what windows extension it is supposed to be.
I will try to post a screen shot from the other PC
    thanks

    Hi Coralienz,
Can you please check the value of the registry entries at the following location: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
In case the values for any of the entries (i.e. Common AppData, Common Desktop, Common Documents etc.) is referencing to E:\, change the value back to look something like below and you should be good to go.

  • How to open Adobe Reader file from another native IOS application?

There is an existing thread, but I want to re-open it because I think this is an important feature that we need badly.  I was wondering if there is any plan to add this feature so we can open PDFs directly into Adobe from the web / other apps.
How to open Adobe Reader file from another native IOS application?
Basically, we just want to use a custom URL scheme to open a specific document in the App.  Currently, this only opens the app but does not load the file.
    APB

Not to hijack the conversation but I can explain why this would be useful for both the above case and another.
What I believe Pavel is talking about is setting up a "URL Scheme" for the Adobe Acrobat iOS application so that you can easily open a PDF specifically in Adobe Acrobat iOS from other native applications and even from web applications opened within Safari. This is particularly useful if your application requires some of the specific features in Adobe Reader iOS to grant them the best experience possible and you want to encourage this.
Another case: If you're using Adobe Livecycle's document security modules (that encrypts PDF files so that Adobe Acrobat must "phone home" to decrypt and view the document), these PDF's can only be viewed inside the Adobe Acrobat application and appear as blank in most other PDF readers. Having a URL scheme allows your application utilising this functionality to have a 1 click step to view the PDF rather than the current non-user friendly process:
    - Within Safari, touch the PDF link (appears as blank in the default Safari PDF reader, which in itself is confusing)
      - Touch "Open in..."
      - Touch "Adobe Acrobat"
We have an immediate need for this functionality for the example above. I can resubmit it in a separate post if necessary.

  • Adobe Reader 8.x Help vs. Windows default browser

Why following any Web link within Adobe Reader 8.1 Help
invokes unconditionally start of Internet Explorer ?
The fact what browser is set as default one is being ignored during this !!!
    Strange strategy of Adobe.

The fact that URL links from within Adobe Reader always launch Internet Explorer instead of the default browser, say Firefox, seems be a common problem from within the Reader, not just within the Help (Google Adobe Reader default browser").
Last year Adobe's own tech note declared it "a rare problem and there is no known solution":
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_15579
and the rpoblems continue in relation to Vista [HTML links don't open in default web browser on Windows Vista (Adobe AIR)]:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb403122
It also seems to have been a problem for long time going back to early versions of Mozilla Firefox 1.06. Various forums say that it's just a matter of using Start | Set Program Access and Defaults, and choosing "Use default browser" or forcing Firefox to be the default. I found that neither method worked.

The solution I chose to make URL links in PDFs trigger my Firefox browser reliably was to dump Adobe Reader and install the faster and smaller Foxit Reader (http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php). The only change you need to make inside Foxit is to tick the "Create links from URLs" tickbox under Edit | Preferences | General.

  • Adobe reader file preview type library reference

Where I will may see adobe reader file preview type library reference?

I would guess that this interface is registered and used by Windows to generate previews for Explorer. It is not supported or documented, but if it does that, it won't have anything to do with text extraction.
Adobe Reader has a supported interface for displaying in a window.
For a text extraction API you'd want Acrobat, which would allow you via VBA to run JavaScript to get text quads.
Note that this is not for server use. If you want server text extraction consider Adobe's PDF iFilter. This is unusual in that it is supported but is not in the SDK; Microsoft define the interfaces to iFilters, not Adobe.
If you have further questions about Acrobat or Reader development, I'd recommend that you post in the Acrobat SDK forum, to reach the right experts.

  • Cannot open adobe reader files.....because it was not a supported type file.......

Cannot open adobe reader file............could not open because it was not a supported type file...........or damaged by email.... What support does it need????

Impossible to say. All we can know is that it is NOT a valid PDF file.
You could take a look. Try this.
    1. Open the file in Microsoft Word (or NotePad).
    2. If the file is good, use it - it was a Word (or text) file.
    3. Otherwise, look at the first few lines. These will probably be gobbledegook.
    4. Copy and paste the first few lines into your reply, perhaps someone will recognise what the file really is.
