Adobe reader will not open pdf files I have saved as, or, export as pdf to my desktop (latest Maverick). The same file does open when I am on the source website (i.e. user manuals etc.). Why?
iMac G4, Mac OS X (10.4.9)
Make sure you have the latest Adobe Reader installed for your OS.

Did you try using Preview. If you control click on the PDF on your desktop you can use the "open with" option. -
Adobe reader could not open the file
How do I fix: Acrobat could not open the file because it is either not a support file type or because the file has been damaged?
Open the file in a text editor and report the beginning of the first line.

Adobe Reader can not open up file on website
I have already Adobe Reader 9.0, but when I press links to the sites that have Adobe file, I get this error message:
"The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a Web Browser. Adobe Acrobat/Reader version 8 or 9 is required. Please exit and try again."
The problem is I already have Adobe Reader 9.0, what do I do now? Should I unintall something or add something?Good afternoon.
I have this same issue across our network in the office. We actually run 3 PDF managers simultaneously for various reasons, but the issue you are having is the same as what we are encountering. Most workstations are on XPPROSP3 and IE7 Silverlight. I did come across a procedure in another
Forum that has supposedly repaired this issue:
Close all IE Windows
Open Adober Reader or Acrobat
Select EDIT from menu
Preferences>Internet Options/Settings>
Deselect PDF in Browser
Press OK
Return to EDIT menu again>Preferences>Internet Category>Select PDF in Browser
Press OK and close application
Relaunch IE and try to open a PDF

The other suggested repair is to run the repair install from within Adobe. I have tried the above and ran the repair from Adobe as well as Control Panel Add/Remove Programs, Reinstall/Repair. It is slightly more complicated in our environment b/c of the other PDF viewers/managers we use for various reasons. Still researching and testing for issue resolution. Try it. -
Adobe Reader is not opening pdf files - there is no Accept button on License Agreement
Please help. I am unable to open any pdf files with Adobe Reader 9.4.0. I get taken to an Adobe Reader License Agreement page that says "Press the Accept button to Agree to the License Agreement and Continue." However, there is no accept button to press! Every timne I try to open a pdf file, I get taken back to the same Adobe Reader License Agreement page, with no Accept button. How do I get out of this dead-end loop? I have followed Adobe's tips on how to "Change" the file through the Control Panel in order to correct the problem, but I still end up in the same dead-end loop. What's the solution?
You can open Reader, click on right arrow key on your keyboard (it will change focus from Decline to Accept) and hit Enter....

Adobe Reader will not open .pdf file.
I have Adobe Reader Acrobat 8 Professional.
I am attempting to open a .pdf file - it opens, but then gives me an error message and closes Adobe.
Error Code 148:3 You cannot use this product at this time. You must repair the probgram by uninstalling and then reinstalling this product.
I've done this, but receive the same error message. Any ideas what's going on?Try using the Acrobat/Reader Cleaner Tool to remove the old version of Adobe Reader 8: http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Then update your version of Adobe Reader: http://get.adobe.com/reader/
By the way if you have both installed remove Reader and run the repair of Acrobat. -
Adobe reader could not open the file because it is not supported or the file is corrupted
can you give me the answer to my problem
What is your operating system? Reader version?
The file in question is a PDF? If yes, open the file in a text editor, then copy and paste the first few lines back here in the forum. -
Does anyone had the same problem?

If you search the forum you will find that the same problem is posted multiple times every day.
You will also find that the reply is always the same: see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/pdf-error-1015-11001-update.html -
Adobe Reader could not open 'April-15th-2014-Messenger.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).

Why can't I open a pdf file on my desktop? I have Adobe Reader and running OS 10.10.1 I keep getting the same message: "Adobe Reader could not open '8pdk_96_4.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)."
I tried that.
I saved the file 8pdk_96_4.pdf to my desktop and tried to open it using Adobe Reader but I get the same message: Adobe Reader could not open '8pdk_96_4.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded). -
Adobe Reader could not open a pdf file - either not supported file type or file damaged
On March 5th, I started getting the Adobe Reader error message "Adobe Reader could not open a pdf file because it is either not supported file type or the file has been damaged.
I get this when I try to open the pdf file as an attachment in Outlook 2013 from my G-Mail account. If I save the attachment and then try to open the pdf document, I get the same error4.
I get this error message with every pdf file that now comes to me in Outlook.
If I log on to my G-Mail I am able to open the pdf document. If I also save the attachment to my computer, I do not get the error message when I open the pdf file. This would suggest the file is okay
This would lead me to believe the problem maybe with Outlook.
I'm using Adobe Reader XI v11.0.10
I'm using Windows 8.1
Is anyone encountering this same issue with outlook?I copied it again. Do you see it? BTW, how do I set privacy? (I'm new at this)

I just bought and downloaded an embroidery file but Adobe Reader will not open it. What can I do?
Is it actually a PDF file or something else.
You haven't given us enough information to do anything other than throw random guesses your way.
Version of Reader? File type? Downloaded and saved to your desktop or are you clicking a link?
Opening in browser or using File>Open in Reader?
More info is better. -
