Adobe Reader just "unexpectedly" quit.
My Adobe is constantly doing this. Help.
Try uninstalling (move the application to trash) and then re-installing from http://get.adobe.com/reader

Adobe Reader 7.1 "quits unexpectedly" after launching.
I've used Adobe Reader 7.0x with my OS 10.3.9 more or less happily for several years, but I recently downloaded Adobe Reader 7.1 (the download Adobe.com tells you to use for 10.3.x), mainly because I kept getting messages from Adobe telling me to. This seems to have been not a smart move.
I don't have Safari available right now, so I used Firefox (making sure that the add-on options included domains I needed, which Adobe.com tells you to do if you use Firefox for the download).
The installation seemed successful and I moved Adobe 7.1 to my Applications folder. However, if I click on a PDF file, Adobe Reader opens and opens the PDF doc, but after a few seconds Adobe closes and I get the message, "The Application Adobe Reader has unexpectedly quit. Do you want to send a report to Apple?" (No.)
I've tried downloading it again and downloading Adobe Reader 6, but nothing works. Does anyone have any suggestions? I really need Adobe Reader!Another idea would be to start the computer from the OS X installer disc* and from
the Installer's menu bar, choose from a drop down menu, Disk Utility. And choose
to run the choice, "repair disk." This is not a permissions repair. This may find a
few problems in your system or on the hard disk drive itself; and try to repair them.
How full is the hard drive, in your computer? If the system is acting up, there is a cause.
A basic permissions repair is like a weekly or monthly thing; varies with use and what is
being done with the computer. If the drive is way full, the Mac will start acting up. And
system problems could result; and eventually hard disk drive failure. It needs free space
in the drive for the applications and system to function. (Activity Monitor in utility folder
could tell you several things; so can a single-click on the Mac HD icon and Get Info.)
If your computer has been running several years and never had an archive and install
or an all new system installed from scratch, maybe those steps are overdue. The
process can be approached from several different directions; to include saving your
entire computer hard disk drive's contents as a clone, (bootable volume) on an
external enclosed hard disk drive. Then use the booted Disk Utility from the system
installer disc (machine booted from installer disc, chosing DiskUtility and using the
different tools in there to zero-data or low-level reformat and then format as HFS+;
then bring back the cloned system from the external hard disk drive, to the Mac.
Not that I recommend doing this right now, since there may be an easier way to
get the computer to see and use a download of Acrobat Reader. But, if you have
not done anything in the way of maintenance and so forth, you could save all your
own files off the computer to an external drive (and not clone) or put them on CDR
or DVDR media, and just wipe the computer's internal HDD. Having to reinstall all
the bits and the software sets you had, and upgrade the system is a small hassle.
That's why it is easier to learn how to make a clone, and try it. You never erase
the computer's drive content until you have a tested-good bootable clone of it first.
If you do think about cloning a hard disk drive, you could read about some of it
here; which is also where the Carbon Copy Cloner can be downloaded from:
http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html These things can save you from a
tech visit; at least until a hard disk drive goes bad (wears out) and even so, if
you make a backup of the computer's drive, you will have a bootable copy, too.
There also are some third party disk repair utilities for Mac (for an OSX version)
which could check and repair, and some will also defragment a hard disk drive;
I prefer to make a clone to my FireWire external hard disk drive, and use a free
or donationware clone software, Carbon Copy Cloner, a download and easily found;
and make a clone of my complete computer's drive contents, then do the drive
repairs with Disk Utility booting the Mac; then use CCC to move my clone back.
(*In order to start from a installer/boot disc, you have to hold C key down on start
with the disc in the optical drive tray/slot; or have the disc in place & then choose
from Startup Disk in the System Preference panel and have the machine boot from
the system install disc instead of its hard disk drive system. Click to highlight it.)

The application (all adobe applications) has unexpectedly quit
Hello everyone,
I have a problem with my Adobe Cs3 Design Premium package. I don't know if i have the correct forum section.
I now managed to install this software correctly on mac osx but when i try to start one of the application they will all give me the very same error message!
"The application (all adobe applications) has unexpectedly quit
A crash report has been generated. To provide us with the best chance of fixing this problem, please select Continue to add a detailed description that includes the steps required to reproduce the crash."
Adobe will use this crash report to help find a future solution to this problem.
I had 512mb but upgraded it later to 2gb. Mac OSX is installed on a pc machine.
Does anyone know this issue? and what can i do about it?
I really appreciate any help,
Jasper BakkkerHi Hugo
1. Do You have upgraded QuickTime to v.7 if not don't, else downgrade to
6.5.2
2. Do You have enough free space on Your hard disk eg 20Gb recommended
3. Do You start Your projects from within iMovie with the function
Share/Export to iDVD. I don't. I use the ref. movie in the project
folder/icon and close iMovie so that only iDVD is running
4. Do You do other thing during DVD-processing. Don't.

"Adobe Application Manager unexpectedly quit.
I paid my $9.99. Every time I try and download Photoshop CC or Lightroom. I get this message "Adobe Application Manager unexpectedly quit." What am I doing wrong?
Hi barbarakaye1,
Welcome to the Community!
Looks like it is corrupted. We might need to install Adobe Creative cloud, lets try the below steps:
Download and install the Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool: http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html
Extract and run it.
Select "e" for English.
Hit "Y" for Yes if asked.
Select Option 3 for Creative Cloud.
Then select Option 1 for Creative Cloud Installer.
Rename the OOBE folder to OOBE OLD from :
Mac: MAC HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe Win: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\
Also, If there is a process running named 'AAM Update Notifier' or 'AAM Registration Notifier' . Kill those processes and try to install Adobe Application Manager again and check.
Download and Install the latest version here: https://creative.adobe.com/products/creative-cloud

Adobe Media Encoder Unexpectedly Quits
Hello,
I was trying to export a flv file from CS4 today and I have been receiving an error Adobe has detected that the application adobe media encoder CS4 has Unexpectedly quit. I?m using CS4 4.1 and the matrox 4.1 beta build.
Here are our settings:
This was originally a CS3 project now opened in CS4. The source footage is 720p, 29.97fps, m2t files
I was exporting them with the adobe media encoder
Flv F4v
Using no filters
Format Flv
Video
On2 VP6 Codec
Not encoding the alpha channel
Resize to 640X360 (half size)
Frame rate: same as source
CBR one pass 500kbps
Set key frame 150
Undershoot target 90% (this is new to me I left it at the default but what does this mean?)
And Simple Profile is not checked (This is new to me I left it at the default but what does this mean?)
Quality: high
Audio
Stereo 64kbps
I tried making a wav file and a F4V and neither of those caused Adobe Media encoder to shut down. But as soon as I try making a flv using these settings the encoder opens then comes up with this error. I would think it has something to do with my settings maybe I need to change something. What should I do and what is a F4V file??
ThanksUpdates. This is becoming an emergency, I can't seem to export anything from any projects!
Has anyone out there updated their adobe media encoders? Whenever I go to file export I get a dialogue that says there is a update available. My editing system has not been connected to the internet so I have not tried updating yet.
We are using the Adobe 4.1 and Matrox utils 4.1beta.
we are using a Matrox Axio LE system.
In other tests I tried exporting from a 720p 59.94 project using m2ts and a 720x486 29.97fps SD project where the source file was a uncompressed AVI but both were unsuccessful.
I can however open up the adobe media encoder if I chose F4V upon export. When I choose FLV the encoder opens then quits. With F4V the encoder actually opens but when I select start queue the encoder just sits there and does nothing.
I have also just tried another test exporting from 720p 59.94pfs 1.0 PAR. to M2V which didn't work.
The encoder actually opens this time but when I start encoding the encoder just sits there. I can see that it starts to create a file in the specified destination but never really gets going.
I was using these settings: export Audio and Video, no multiplexing,
720x480 Quality 5 (all the way up, Progressive frames,
4:3
Audio 16bit 48khz,
no filters
M frames 3

Adobe Reader Version 11.0.07 (Mac computer OS X 10.9.3) opens when first opening a PDF document to view but won't automatically quit after use.
How can I fix this? I don't want the Application staying open when not being used.In my experience, the Mac OS does not close any application when you close a document using that application. Reader is no exception to this.

Everything just Unexpectedly Quits
I've been having an annoying problem with my 15 month old Powerbook recently. Any given software keeps quitting unexpectedly after some time. This includes the whole range of programs: Firefox 1.5, iTunes, Safari, Skype - virtually any software on my mac.
I have repaired admissions with the OSX-Tool and with applejack as well with no result. I then reinstalled OSX completely, with no effect. I then grudgingly had to admit that it might be a hardware-thing, most probably the RAM, but neither the System-disc-hardware-check nor memcheck found a thing.
I have no clue what the problem might be. I can't get too much out of crashreports but the line KERNINVALIDADDRESS (0x0001) at 0x38000003 dosn't sound too good.
Does anyone have an idead what to do or where to start?
Thankyou very much
Marius
PB G4 Mac OS X (10.3.9) 1GB RAMHi there,
Excuse me for my utter stupidity. Thanks for the kind hint, I found the RAM-slots all right. I didn't remove a stick so far but exchanged the two for now. who knows if that does any good. I have started to believe in voodoo by now.
However, with the next kernel panic / program freeze I am going to first remove tthe sticks one by one and then wipe the system clean with a brandnew Tiger installation (I have tried only 10.3.x up to 9 so far in the full installation mode). If that finally fails me as well I will have to send the book in, though I doubt apple will be cooperative with a bug that is hard to track down. But that's foreshadowing, for now i changed the sticks into the vice versa slots and hope for the best.
Thank you!

HELP! - Mail 2.0.7 unexpectedly quits on attemt to configure priority field
PLEASE, ...if someone could point me to actions I haven't already tried, that would be MOST WELCOME.
Here's what I already went through:
- repaired permissions
- maintainance, cron-scripts, cashes and all (Cocktail)
- OS update to 10.6.4 (from 10.6.5)
- booting in safe mode (shift)
- starting Mail in "safe mode" (shift)
- moving Mail's prefs to the desktop
...etc.
From what I had read here, in the forum, I was actually expecting to find my Mail-application to have been updated to v.2.0.8, after applying the combo-update. Unfortunately NOT SO. :o/ Still on v.2.0.7, ...maybe because I'm on a German localization??? Or is this an update that would apply to INTEL-based machines, only? No clue.
So, here's what happens:
On opening the "new mail"-window (Sorry, if this isn't what it's called, in the intl. or US-localization! I will just have to DESCRIBE it, as best as I can, since I wouldn't know the correct terminology.), I hit the little "action-field" (right next to the Account-field, all the way on the left, right above the actual message-field), where you would configure the FIELDS to be shown on composing new mail. There are 3 entries to be selected. The BCC-field is checked, the REPLY TO field is unchecked, and right below that there is an entry I should select to CONFIGURE additional fields (like PRIORITY), which is exactly what I would like to do.
Upon selection of that "configure"-entry, Mail just unexpectedly quits. :o/
For all you pros and techies, out there (your help would be very much appreciated), ...here's what the crashlog states:

Okay, ...hope this isn't too much info all at once, for a newbie-participant in this forum, ...but I figured, if anyone would like to give me a clue or hint, this would be all the info needed, anyway. :o.
So, THANXXX IN ADVANCE for even trying to help me out here!!!

PPC G4 dual 1,2GHz Mac OS X (10.4.6) Wish I had a quad G5. ;o)As a feature, I must say that I find it worthless.
You do!?!? How come?
Because it has always been abused by people anxious or just trying to get attention (not that I think that's your case, mind you :-)). Spammers used it in the early days, yet none uses it now. Guess why? Yes, you guessed correctly, it's one of the things looked at by junk filters, so you'd better not use it if there is a chance your mail may get blocked somewhere along the path. It only conveys useful information when the correspondents know each other.
disable "Display remote images in HTML messages"
...if I recall corectly, ...I think the feature actually
WAS turned OFF by default, when I 1st setup Mail.
I recently set up Mail anew in another user account for testing a troubleshooting procedure, and it was enabled. Since you've just done that yourself, you may check it there.
I enabled it myself, as I thought
this was a neat feature,
Yeah. That's what I was talking about...
So, what are they, actually, ...apart from a waste of
time ...and asking for Mail crashes?
They can be used by spammers for tracking valid addresses. If a message with such images passes the junk filter and you open it, then your email address is doomed unless your ISP has a good junk filter at the server. Open Mail Help, type "HTML images" in the search field and enjoy...
Now THAT was such a simple and neat idea, ...I wonder
why I din't think of it myself. ;o) Ohh well, ...
And you should be even more ashamed this time, because this is often mentioned as a troubleshooting procedure in this forum. :-D
Okay, ...I just did that ...AND, ...much to my
surprise, Mail actually revealed the EXACT SAME
BEHAVIOR on a completely fresh user. That (kind of)
at least rules out the "home>library-folder" as the
source of trouble, doesn't it!?
Yes, it does. At this point I have two links for you, I'm sure you'll know what to do with them
Installing software updates
Mac OS X 10.4.6 Combo Update for PPC
A "real" Mail-bug, maybe?
I don't think so, other people would have already noticed it. Looks like a damaged file somewhere, or maybe just with the wrong permissions, so try repairing permissions first and see if that fixes anything.
are you using the same version of mail, and does it
work correctly on your system? Oh, I guess it does,
or you would have mentioned otherwise already. -
FCP X "unexpectedly quits" every time I click "Import Media."
I recently decided to upgrade our office software from FCP 7 to FCP X. I've worked with FCP X on my personal laptop with no issues, but for some reason, the MacBooks and iMacs at work are having issues. The biggest issue is the application "unexpectedly quitting." On my personal iMac, any time I try to "Import Media" in any way (hitting Command I, via the Event Library or the Project Library) Final Cut just unexpectedly quits and brings up a huge long error message.
I've read other threads on here that suggest trashing your preferences using Digital Rebellion software and hiding events, and I've tried those things, but they didn't work. I trashed the whole application and reinstalled it already. I've rebooted about 100 times. Am I missing something?
Also, why does this seem to be such a big problem for FCP X users? Why does FCP X crash so frequently? FCP 7 very rarely crashed on me.
I'm using the following:
iMac
27-inch, Mid 2010
Processor: 2.8 GHz Inrtel Core i5
Memory: 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 2750 1024 MB
Software: OS X 10.8.2 (12C60)If there is a software conflict in the way the user is set up. It seems as if there is something on the work machines that isn't compatible with FCP. A new, clean, admin user is one way to test some things in the system.
The last time I crashed FCP I was playing with it on a system that I knew would fail because of the 680MX graphics card.
P.S. are the work machines on a network of some sort, maybe with remote devices mounted? -

Any suggestions on how to determin what is failing or how to fix it?
Right click run as administrator still same crash error.
Run in different admin account still same crash error.
Install on different system, same crash error. o_0

</crashreport>xSx...: One of the developers checked the crash log that you included but said that it doesn't reveal the cause.
It's possible that OL is having trouble with a camera or some other device that it thinks is a camera. Please try disconnecting all devices that are connected via FireWire, deleting the app settings again, and then launching. If you have a webcam, please disconnect or disable it as well.
If that doesn't do the trick, then my next suspicion is that something has gone awry with activation, in which case we'll have to bring in somebody better versed in that side of things.
recola4: Since you're having trouble with two programs, I'm even more suspicious of an activation issue. I suggest that you post on the Premiere Pro and After Effects forums since the people from those teams are not likely to run across your post here on the OnLocation forum. -
All my desktop icons are Adobe Reader icons, can't access related files
I was trying to open a file this morning, and when a pop-menu asked what application I wanted to choose (from a list) to open it, I clicked on Adobe Reader - just as a guess. After that, just about all my desktop icons are Adobe icons, and when I click on them, the pop up menus says I can't access the file. These icons also show up on my menu of all my MS Office programs like Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.
Tech support at Adobe recommended I use System Restore, but it also is now an Adobe icon, so I can't open it. If anyone can help reverse this, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,
DavidHi,
This also happened to me this morning. Now all my icons are PDF symbols and Reader opens when I try to open any other program. I uninstalled Reader it and it fixed itself but when I reinstalled the program the same issue occurred.
I wanted to make PDF reader the default application when openning PDF's vs. Distiller, tinkered and broke my computer.
Any clues on how to bring everything back to normaL? -
FDF file not opening in IE 8 with Adobe reader 9 or Adobe pro 9
Hi
I have a fdf file that is working fine with IE 7 when I am using adode reader 9 or pro. But the same fdf is not working fine if my browser is IE 8 . The target element for the fdf is a file that is there in our web server. The same FDF is also working fine in IE 8 if the version is reader used is 8 or lower
can any one help me to fix this.
Thanks in Advance
RAVISH GI will add a "Me too" onto this thread. I have to use a third-party site which sends an FDF document (over Internet Explorer), however Adobe Reader doesn't load inside this browser window, but rather launches itself *outside* of this browser window (in standalone mode, more or less)...
In fact, when Adobe Reader is loading outside the browser window the only thing I have here is the original PDF document where the data should be added on. The PDF file is actually a form but I have it displayed "blank", that is without any user-provided data. On Internet Explorer's point of view, I only have the "PDF File" icon in the center of my window, but nothing else (all white)
Here are the specs:
Toshiba Satellite laptop
Windows Vista Home Premium, all patched
Latest Adobe Reader available when typing this reply (9.3)
I have:
Uninstalled, reinstalled Adobe Reader, but nothing better happens (Adobe Reader just pops out of the browser to display the original PDF file)
Upgraded to Internet Explorer 8 (as I was running IE7 on this PC), also added the URL of the intranet site in question in my "trusted sites" in IESpeaking of Internet Explorer, I also did a "reset to default values" many times over this process
Double-checked the values in the Windows Registry in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT to see that both FDF and PDFs are gonna be executed on Adobe Reader (I have no other PDF readers or writers installed anyway)
Double-checked that the Activex control that is needed to be run so Adobe Reader can start is actually whitelisted in Microsoft's IE registry, more on this here
Ensured that Edit, Preferences, Internet, "Display in the browser" is in fact checked. I did the extra mile here: I unchecked, pressed OK, left Adobe Reader then came back to enable it again just in case something doesnt get written accordingly to those settings in the UI.
Now i'm out of clues
For what its worth, only internet explorer gives me this problem, Firefox and Chrome just opens Adobe Reader inside the browser with the FDF provided. -
Bad text quality in Adobe Reader on Macbook Pro with Retina
When viewing documents in Adobe Reader (just installed on new Macbook pro retina), text quality in documents and in the program itself is very low.
Text quality is perfect in viewer and in Adobe on other computers and on my Iphone. All settings are as recommended (110 pixels/inch and text smoothening turned on). How can this be?[moved to the Adobe Reader (desktop) forum]
