Adobe Reader Not Opening pdf's

I've got a new MacBook Air and have downloaded the latest Adobe Reader but can't get it to open documents from the Internet.  Already downloaded documents it'll open. I thought a Ghostery or MacAfee filter might be inhibiting it but I've disconnected both and there is no change.  Anyone know how I can overcome this?

Try this ...
Open a Finder window then from the menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Click Go.
If you see the:  AdobePDFViewer plugin in the Internet Plug-Ins folder, move it to the trash.
Restart your Mac and try opening a PDF file.

  • WHY WILL ADOBE READER NOT OPEN PDF FILES?

I have just downloaded free Adobe Reader X. When I try to open a pdf file I immediately get a Microsfoft box saying "Adobe Reader has encountered a problem and needs to close"  I have Windows XP. Has anyone else experienced the problem and what did you do to fix the problem so pdf files open?  Setting in control panel is for al pdf's to be opened by Adobe Reader, and when I downloade, I briefly disabled my anti-virus software.  Really frustrating,  Can any one help?

We saw the same symptoms as you describe.
It turned out that the new sandbox feature in Reader X is not compatible with Re-Directed "Application Data" folders.
Disabling the sandbox safety feature (via a special registry setting) appears to be a workaround, but somehow we now feel less safe.
Folder redirection involves group policy as used in large corporations with IT teams to manage large numbers of PCs in companies.
For example, in corporate environments, users My Documents and AppData folders are often re-directed at a secure server share, so that people's documents/photos/mp3s they save into my documents are secured on a server, instead of scattered about on various PCs.  Home users never use this technology.
However, If you've got Adobe Reader X installed to a different DRIVE to the one where your APPDATA folder is, then you might get the same effect.
I guess this could also happen to peole with Windows installed on their D: drives, and Adobe installed on the C: drive, or similar.

  • Adobe Reader not opening PDF Portfolio - Flash player error

I have Acrobat 9 Standard installed on my PC and I created a PDF Portfolio. Acrobat Standard can open that Portfolio just fine.
I also have Acrobat Reader installed (11.0.2).and have Adobe Flash Player (11.7.700.169) installed. Both Reader and Flash Player work fine independently on PDF or Flash content.
However when I try to open the PDF portfolio with Reader, I get the following Error:
:"To view the Flash technology in this FDF file; please install this version of Flash player that supports Adobe reader and Acrobat".
The Dialog box with the message above has a [Proceed to download page] button (which does nothing but bring up Reader with a black page), a [Learn more] button (similar behavior), and a [Cancel] button.  Both Reader and Flash are the latest versions as of today (4/16/2013).
Any help or insight with this is appreciated.
    Thanks !

  • How do I disable Adobe Reader from opening pdfs?

how do I disable Adobe Reader from opening pdfs in Safari? I tried unchecking the box for opening pdfs in browser under Adobe's Internet prefs, but that didn't seem to work.

    Hello-
I actually saw a solution to this earlier today. To disable PDF viewing in safari, first quit safari, then open terminal, and type in this command:
defaults write com.apple.Safari WebKitOmitPDFSupport -bool YES
To re-enable PDF viewing in safari simply open the terminal, and change the "YES" in the command above to a "NO"
    Hope this helps.

  • Adobe Reader not opening nor allowing PDF to open

    Hi there.
I just downloaded Adobe Reader 11.0.06 to my mac. When I try to open the application nothing happens and when I try to read/download a PDF file from any given site it gives me the following message:
''Before viewing PDF documents in this browser you must launch Adobe Reader and accept the End User License Agreement, then Quit and relaunch the browser.''
As I am trying to work on my dissertation, this really kind of sucks.
I have tried to re-install it etc but nothing happens
    Can anybody help?

You need to do what the message says, that's all. You are in good company, several people a week are baffled by this message, something which honestly baffles me. Still, it's obviously bad design if it isn't intuitive.
To launch an any app, just open a Finder window and look for Applications in the left hand column. Look in it and all your applications are there.
Double click on Adobe Reader to launch it. If there is more than one shown, launch and quit each one in turn.

  • Adobe Reader cannot open pdf created by Firefox; "file is damaged"

Firefox 4.0.1 on Mac Pro Intel using OS 10.5.8 will allow you to save a web page as pdf, using "Print" then "Save as PDF". If you do this you will save a file. If you attempt to open that file with Adobe Reader you get an error message that the file is damaged. Safari does not have this problem. Microsoft Explorer does not have this problem. It is unlikely that this is an OS problem. Adobe Reader is listed as the app to open pdf files. Is there a fix?

    1. I assume you have some PDF documents you have been keeping a long time. Look at their modification date. Is it what you'd expect (years ago) or is it all the same, recent?
    2. Has a TXT file appeared in the same folder as the PDFs?

  • Adobe reader not open the file immediately after saving it  with Microsoft Office

I have an older version Adobe Reader 9, and worked fine until today. I did the upgrade to Adobe Reader XI (11.0.06).
I have Window´s Office 2010 on my computer. When I save a document on *pdf file, Adobe starts automatically and open the document (Open file after publishing.) After the upgrade, documents are not open automatically and shows the next message:  "There was an error  during initialization. An internal error ocurrred." and  "There was an error opening this document. Access denied.". But if I try manually, files are open. How do I fix this problem.

I'm having a similar issue.  The .pdf files open fine locally, but when I put them up online, they will not open and I get the same error message.  If I download and save the files, they show a 1KB file size instead of 168KB.
Drive space is not an issue (looking at over 225GB of free space on the main drive).
In searching on-line, the main cause I am finding is receiving the file via e-mail and a decoding issue.  This is not the case with these files as they were created on my machine and uploaded using Filezilla to the server.  I'm using Acrobat Pro 7.0 on a windows box running Vista Ultimate.
Any ideas on what would be causing this issue?

  • Adobe Reader not opening ezy TICKETS from Ticketek New Zealandfrom

Adobe Reader is not opening files I have received from Ticketek NZ called ezy tickets.
I have version Adobe Reader 11.0.0 on my IPAD which has IOS 5.1.1.  I get an error message saying that the file is not a valid PDF file.  This is very frustrating.

Yes it does open on my windows lap top with adobe reader.  My son however can't open it on his IPAD 4 with IOS 6 with adobe reader.  Interestingly he has opened PDF ezy Tickets from TICKETEK previously with his adobe reader on his IPAD but he gets the same error message I get with this particular ezy Ticket I have received this week.

  • Adobe reader error opening pdf

    hi there,
i'm getting the following error message when opening pdf documents stored on the hard-drive of my laptop, using Adobe Reader XI on Windows 8 operating system:
Adobe Reader could not open "xyz.pdf" because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)
The documents weren't received as email attachments.
I've tried reinstalling Adobe Reader XI, and i've tried installing Adobe Reader X, and in both cases the problem has persisted. I am able to open certain pdf documents, but the majority return this message. I've tried Foxit and Google reader, but both fail to open these pdf documents. I've tried a pdf-fixer program, and it reports that it fails to fix the pdf documents.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated!
    thanks, Fergus

hi Test Screen Name, i appreciate you taking the time to help!
i've checked several documents that i understood were PDF by opening them in Notepad, and they are starting with a variety of characters in addition to the example i gave above - some examples:
    1st - ;^" ¼# Ú ³ÄaªÉ@—·
    2nd - —¤DÙ3îRò8ëñæ¿ ÕOÝ
3rd - wOsrL     (and 2 further documents that started with these characters)
    4th - 佋첩耺컜⺩垌荦ŵ嵎
i was able to read the documents when i originally downloaded them or exported them, but i didn't access them again at that time, and  i have not tried to access these documents in more than 2 months. During that time i had a problem (possibly a virus) on the computer - i resolved it be reloading windows.
    any suggestions would be great!

  • Error message: Your trial has expired. Unable to use adobe reader to open PDF's.

I have reinstalled the reader several times and keep getting the same error message. My CS6 is working fine.

Does the error actually say "Unable to use Adobe Reader..."?
If not, it could be that you have the trial version of Acrobat installed and were using it to open PDF's instead of Reader (Reader doesn't have a trial)?
If so, you can change your file associations to open PDF's with Reader (how to do this varies by your OS) or install Reader.

  • After installing/uninstalling Adobe, Preview not opening PDFs

I installed Adobe Reader 8 just to be able to read one lousy document on the Internet. (It would not open past a screen that said I needed 8.0).
I noticed that it noticeably slowed the opening of ALL pdf documents from the Internet -- Preview was much faster. I deleted Adobe Reader from the Apps folder, but all pdfs are STILL NOT opening with Preview anymore and they're still all slow to open. I tried putting Preview on the doc--didn't work.
What can I do to get rid of Adobe and restore Preview as the default?
    Thanks!

Interesting! A combination of the two suggestions worked!
I did a right-click with my mouse, went into "Open with" and "Other" then choose Preview and checked "Always Open With." This worked with the pdf files only on my computer, but not for pdfs off the Internet.
Then, per the first suggestion, I deleted just that one plug-in and Internet pdfs now open with Preview as well! Just what I wanted!
Now I feel confident about deleting Adobe. Thanks you two!!!

  • Adobe Reader 8 open pdf very slow and used lots of memory

I use the Adobe Reader 8 to open a pdf(the pdf size not bigger than 100k)
but when i open it, it take long time to load it and use so many memory,
also, i do not have this problem on using adobe reader 7, would any one know the reason?
    Thx for everyone.

Alright, i know, you can't bare to part with it, you need it, etc.etc...
try here, its an adobe reader speed up program
    http://software.bootblock.co.uk/?id=adobereaderspeedup
    It's a bit old though.
Also, do you have the stupid adobe startup program for reader running? This speeds up the loading of adobe reader while simultaneously slowing down your whole system. Great tradeoff.
    Get foxit!
    Adobe sucks!
