Adobe Reader not recognizing tif files

Why doesn't Adobe Reader recognize tif files?  I created a pdf portfolio using Adobe Acrobat X Pro.  I scanned a black and white document with my Canon flatbed and saved it as a tif file.  I am unable to import the tif file into the pdf portfolio and I keep getting a pop-up that adobe reader does not recognize that type of file.  Anyone else have this problem and find the solution?

Reader should be fine. you don't need to full version to open password protected documents and a Mac doesn't make any difference either.
Fist thing to be sure of is that it's actually Reader opening the docs and not Mac Preview (or something else).
If it is, maybe try having them assign a different password. A more simplistic one just to see if you can open it.

  • WHY WILL ADOBE READER NOT OPEN PDF FILES?

I have just downloaded free Adobe Reader X. When I try to open a pdf file I immediately get a Microsfoft box saying "Adobe Reader has encountered a problem and needs to close"  I have Windows XP. Has anyone else experienced the problem and what did you do to fix the problem so pdf files open?  Setting in control panel is for al pdf's to be opened by Adobe Reader, and when I downloade, I briefly disabled my anti-virus software.  Really frustrating,  Can any one help?

We saw the same symptoms as you describe.
It turned out that the new sandbox feature in Reader X is not compatible with Re-Directed "Application Data" folders.
Disabling the sandbox safety feature (via a special registry setting) appears to be a workaround, but somehow we now feel less safe.
Folder redirection involves group policy as used in large corporations with IT teams to manage large numbers of PCs in companies.
For example, in corporate environments, users My Documents and AppData folders are often re-directed at a secure server share, so that people's documents/photos/mp3s they save into my documents are secured on a server, instead of scattered about on various PCs.  Home users never use this technology.
However, If you've got Adobe Reader X installed to a different DRIVE to the one where your APPDATA folder is, then you might get the same effect.
I guess this could also happen to peole with Windows installed on their D: drives, and Adobe installed on the C: drive, or similar.

  • Adobe reader not open the file immediately after saving it  with Microsoft Office

I have an older version Adobe Reader 9, and worked fine until today. I did the upgrade to Adobe Reader XI (11.0.06).
I have Window´s Office 2010 on my computer. When I save a document on *pdf file, Adobe starts automatically and open the document (Open file after publishing.) After the upgrade, documents are not open automatically and shows the next message:  "There was an error  during initialization. An internal error ocurrred." and  "There was an error opening this document. Access denied.". But if I try manually, files are open. How do I fix this problem.

I'm having a similar issue.  The .pdf files open fine locally, but when I put them up online, they will not open and I get the same error message.  If I download and save the files, they show a 1KB file size instead of 168KB.
Drive space is not an issue (looking at over 225GB of free space on the main drive).
In searching on-line, the main cause I am finding is receiving the file via e-mail and a decoding issue.  This is not the case with these files as they were created on my machine and uploaded using Filezilla to the server.  I'm using Acrobat Pro 7.0 on a windows box running Vista Ultimate.
Any ideas on what would be causing this issue?

  • Adobe Reader not recognizing the (correct) password on a password protected document

I have been opening password protected documents with Adobe Reader for months. My client just changed the password, and now, using the correct new password (I'm positive it's the correct password because I can open it on other computers, and no, my caps lock isn't on, and I've tried numerous times so it's not that I'm typing it incorrectly), Adobe is saying that the password is incorrect. Any ideas? I was thinking perhaps because I am on a Mac, or maybe because I have Adobe Reader and not the full version it isn't working... any help much appreciated!

  • Adobe reader not associating with pdf files

i've installed adobe reader X after reinstalling windows, but reader is not associating with pdf files and also not showing in "open with.." list, even after browsing and try to associate it manually it's not visible in recommended program list and in other program list. to open pdf files i've to open adobe reader and then open files.

Please use the "Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool" from http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html and remove any traces of Adobe Reader already on your system.
Post successfully removing the application, please re-install Adobe Reader from: http://get.adobe.com/reader
    Hope this helps

  • Iphoto 11 is not recognizing jpeg files downloaded from camera and card reader. Nor will it allow me to transfer from image capture

iphoto 11 is not recognizing jpeg files from either the camera and card reader. Canon Eos rebel dig. Nor will it allow me to transfer images from image capture to iphoto. No problem downloading to image capture.

Sounds like a damaged card.  Get your photos off the card with Image Capture and then reformat the card in the camera.  Take some pictures and see if the card is recognized by iPhoto and the card reader.

  • Lightroom 4.4 not recognizing RAW files from supported cameras

I started to get problems with Lightroom not recognizing RAW files from my Fuji XE-1 and Canon 5D Mark 3 cameras but I thought it was a problem with RC. After downloading some files today in 4.4 without a problem I encountered the same error message (unable to inport listed RAW files) again. The files open fine in Bridge. Any idea what is causing this problem?

    Hi Geoff
I use a Mac with the latest version of Mountain Lion OS. The image files are being imported from the cards; in the case of the Fuji an SD card inserted in the card reader slot on the Mac and in the case of the Canon a CF flash card in a card reader attached to the Mac.
Appreciate any help you can provide.

  • Flex Mobile - PDF not displaying error - "Adobe Reader not found"

    Hi everyone,
Is viewing PDF documents supported in Flex Mobile projects?  At the moment, I get an error saying:
    "Adobe Reader not found"
I am converting my Adobe Air Desktop project to a Mobile project with Flashbuilder 4.5.1. Any documentation reference on how to get PDF's to view on Flex Mobile applications would greatly be appreciated.
    Thanks!

Thankyou. The Central Question over this Lumia 625 inability to open a specific pdf (by Lonely Planet) remains:-I could uninstall this Adobe Reader app but think this is not the problem as this app does indeed open all other pdf's on my phone successfully, e.g. the Lonely Planet Invoice!
On the other hand, this particular downloaded & installed pdf can be read on my home PC, my Macbook & my IpodTouch so I can't attribute fault to the filename.
The basic Troubleshoot step of a "soft reset"  is NOT described in the Lumia 625 User Guide & I'm pessimistic this arbitrary step will bear fruit. I have come to the conclusion that no matter what I do, this Lumia model using the MIcrosoft OS has a system flaw that is unable to read the file (a file that other devices & another OS can read) & I will not waste time with ad hoc actions such as resets as this is not a hobby for me.
The pdf in question (88Mb, Lumia free space is >3Gb)  is a travel guide I'd like to use on my next trip & this Lumia 625 is proving not worthy of coming with me. I am disappointed at the lack of "Customer Support" shown by the Nokia Company & I hope this is relayed as some "friendly feedback". Thank you for your own assistance, though.
I invite correction if this assessment is mistaken.

  • Can the folder C:\Windows\Cache\Adobe Reader 6 and the files it contains simpley be deleted?

My daughter is running Adobe Reader 9.4.5 and Adobe Flash Player 10 Active X
on a Dell Dimension 4400 system with
Windows XP Home Edition version 2002 Service Pack 3.
During a full system backup using Seagate DiskWizard version 11.0.8326
each time folder C:\Windows\Cache\Adobe Reader 6
is accessed the pc freezes with the Blue Screen error
IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL ERROR 0x0000000A
    (0x00000166, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x804E5443).
Each time the Adobe Reader 6 folder is opened manually, the system presents a spinning
CD icon superimposed on the cursor and attempts to access the CD drive.
The access ultimately fails since there is no CD loaded because there is no intent to install
    anything at the moment.
Through a manual process of backing up each of the the files in the Adobe Reader 6 folder
individually, one at a time, I strongly suspect the problem file to be instmsiw.exe.
Can the folder C:\Windows\Cache\Adobe Reader 6 and the files it contains simpley be deleted?
Are there any registry entries or issues that must be addressed before deleting these files?
What is the best way to free up space on the C drive that is apparently being occupied by
files left over from the install of a prior version of Adobe Reader?
The folder C:\Windows\Cache\Adobe Reader 6 contains the following files:
    0x0409.ini                        5KB          Configuration Settings        2/18/2003
    abcpy.ini                          2KB          Configuration Settings        3/24/2003

    Setup.ini                        2KB            Configuration Settings        5/19/2003
Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

Go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel and uninstall Adobe Reader 6. That version poses a security risk to your system and should be removed a.s.a.p.
After you remove it, reboot and then delete the "Adobe Reader 6" folder at the location you mentioned above.
Then go to http://get.adobe.com/reader/direct/ and download version 9.4
After that installs, download the latest patch for it by opening the program, then go to Help | Check For Updates.
As a precaution, download the free version of Malwarebytes from here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free and then run a full system scan.
