Adobe Reader or something else

I have tried to be patient and loyal to my Adobe Reader on my Android phone and tablet but now I think I am finaly going start making the break from Adobe Reader to something else. I purchased ezPDF Reader almost a year ago and haven't used it much but have started using it again and am liking what I see. There are more annotation features. I have a PDF document with an emebedded sound file that won't play in Adobe Reader but will in ezPDF Reader. Text reflow, while far from perfect in both readers, is somewhat cleaner in ezPDF Reader than Adobe Reader. There are lots more features and I'm just getting started with my exploration.
It doesn't seem to me that Adobe is very interested in mobile. Case in point is when they got rid of a load of mobile apps and kept just a few with most of the few iOS only. I used to have Adobe Ideas but since I got rid of my iPad Mini I don't have it anymore and now only have Photoshop Touch and Adobe Reader. Is it because PDF is on it's way out or not a viable solution to mobile platforms? In the nearly two years I have had Adobe Reader very few useful improvements have been added or updated to it. There is no mobile prerelease program. There is no noticable way to give feedback or feature requests. If there is something then like a lot of things on the Adobe site you have to really dig to find it. There is this forum but most of the time it's like posting to a black hole and you wonder if any of the developers read it. There is very little feedback.
If Adobe created a paid version of Adobe Reader loaded with great features Adobe is noted for then I would purchase it.
This isn't a total abandonment. I'm still going to keep an eye on Adobe Reader but Adobe you're moving too slow.
A short wish list
JavaScript capability in forms so I can fill out an order form or billing form and totals will be calculated.
More anotation features such as more flexible highlight colors and choices and note icons.
Play embedded sounds and movies.

Truth be told, we have quite a few people working on the Mobile Readers. I'll be honest, it's pretty hard. For many reasons, we can't just directly port the existing desktop product directly to these mobile platforms. They aren't yet powerful enough and the experience with touch is totally different. It's important to remember that we have 20+ years of history developing the desktop product. We've been working on the mobile products 3-4 years. I don't expect that we'll completely catch up anytime soon =).
To answer some of the specific requests on the short list:
* On android, we do have some JavaScript capability. Most specifically, calculation, validation and formatting for forms has some limited support and we're adding to it all the time.
* We've actively avoided adding too many options to the product to make it simpler and make experience better. In fact, some of us think one of the mistakes we added in the desktop product was adding too much. We have an easy way to choose from 8-10 highlight colors and feel like that's enough. We thought a color picker would be overkill. I'm curious how you'd use this. Maybe we are missing your use case in our thinking!
* We don't play embedded videos, sounds and movies, though this is on our backlog and at some point we'd like to get to it. That said, the primary reason we haven't done it is that we're limited by the devices. In many cases, the devices will only play very specific codecs for audio and video. It's simpler to explain to users that "it just doesn't work on mobile" than to try to educate them about audio/video codecs and why it works sometimes and not others. For what it's worth, if you add the audio/video as an attachment AND it's properly encoded in a way that the device can handle it, you can play the audio/video.
Bottom line, we're working on it. I should say though that "Feature Parity" has never been a design goal. We want to add what makes sense rather than blindly moving every feature from the desktop to mobile platforms. Progress is always slower than you/we like, but know that we are working on improving the product.

  • Why do some pdf files not open with Adobe Reader X, most open OK?

On my wife's 64 bit WIN 7 computer, a some pdf files will not open, but most open OK.
She uses Acrobat Reader X and MS Office 2010.
The same problem files open with no problem on my very similar computer.
Is the problem with some setting on the Acrobat Reader or something else?
Sometimes there is this error message when the problem files do not open:
Find Click2run64.msi file to install MS Office Click to Run.
But MS Office Click to Run is already installed on her PC.  It is not on my PC.
    Thanks for your help.

The latest Reader is 11.0.01, not 11.0.1.  It is named Adobe Reader XI.
I did uninstall the Reader X and installed this latest one.
But it did not solve the problem, still could not open the problem pdf's .
I did find the problem was caused by the MS Office Click to Run error referred to in my original message.  As far as I know we have no use for that on my wife's computer. Not sure how it got there.   I uninstalled it and so far the problem pdf's open fine now.  Problem solved.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Adobe Reader Acrobat DC: what where they thinking??

I made an Adobe account especially for this posting. I am not someone who complains a lot or writes all over the web about software. But for this new DC thing I make a big exception.
I did build a new PC and after that I also went over to Adobe site to download Adobe Reader. Something was there by default called Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.
Mmm, confusing: I don't have or want Acrobat, that's a complete other line of Adobe products. So had to search but no, turns out that for some reason the reader now also is part of the Acrobat line. Plus only DC is offered, nothing else.
    Well okay, download and install.
First impression: looks weird, a way to big tools sidebar too. Ah well, I can disable that. Nope, the sidebar is always there.
Interface and layout: horrible. But okay, I can learn to live with that.
Okay, next step: disable the automatic update. Nope, can not be done, the auto update is always On.
Well okay, lets see if I can get rid of all the "become member" and "Cloud" notifications. Nope, Adobe somehow decided to nag people to death in the Reader so they get a paid account and go into the cloud.
I really don't know what Adobe was thinking when the made this DC thing but it's just horrible. I know the side Toolbar will have the option to be hidden constantly within a month or 3, I know I can disable the Auto update withing Windows Services, I know I can use Windows Registry tweaks to disable things, I know there is a DC Configurator Wizzard to set things.
But it's ridicules that all that is needed to get a normal working, simple PDF Reader!!
And that is my experience for personal use: for my work DC has even more become a completely useless tool with all the things that have to be configured before the users can use it.
Adobe, do mention on your download page that DC is no simple PDF Reader anymore but just another way to generate money by trying to get people to get a Adobe account so they can get more features? Do mention that Adobe Reader as we know it is no more, that it has been replaced by this DC thing?
Sorry Adobe, I uninstalled this DC thing and I am looking for a good and simple alternative for at work. With sadness I say goodbye to Adobe Reader which I used for so many years. Thank you Adobe by rewarding us all with this ... this ... DC Thing

    Hi ,
It seems like you are not happy with the new UI for Acrobat DC.
First of all I would like to tell you that Adobe Reader DC and Adobe Acrobat DC are two different software .
DC is the common thing linked to both the software. The DC ,i.e Document Cloud states the ease of access of the PDF files, that you can view your PDF' from anywhere and from different gadgets such as your phone, laptop and your desktop by just logging to your account .
If you did not find the new interface interesting ,you could fill in the following wish form and report the same to our engineers and they could work on it and see what best could be done for the users .

  • After downloading Adobe Reader, my daughter cannot open her homework assignments on her school website?

After downloading Adobe Reader on our MacBook, my daughter can no longer open her homework assignments at her school website. When you click on the assignment it does not open. Everything else works on the computer. I deleted Adobe Reader and it still will not work. Did Adobe Reader delete something or replace something that I need to download again? Thanks, Carl

    Try this -
In the Finder's Go menu select Go to Folder.
Type in /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ and click Go.
In the resulting Finder window look for anything with PDF or pdf in the name and drag it to the trash.
    Restart the computer.
    Now try viewing the documents.

  • Which Adobe Reader version is installed in my computer?

I am thinking of getting the update for Adobe Reader version 10.  I know I have Adobe Reader 10.something!  I am satisfied with the Flash 11 and Reader products.
    * How do I find out which version of Adobe Reader (10.x.x) is on my computer??
I'd appreciate an answer if someone knows.
    Thanks!

Assuming that you are on Windows, open Adobe Reader | Help | About Adobe Reader X.  You will see your Reader version displayed at the bottom of that pop-up window.

Every time I sign in, it signs me out immediately. I've tried deleting the opm file and it's unable to do so because "Adobe CC is currently running this file." I've also changed my LAN settings and downloaded something else that was supposed to help me out but nothing seems to fix the problem.

I think you'll find that the official Adobe advice here is misguided.  First, deleting bits of the program and program data is, as you've noted, perilous and often impossible.  Shame on Adobe for doing such a poor job of coding that such steps are needed.
The solution I recommend is as follows:
Restart your Windows machine and boot in "Safe Mode" with networking using the F8 key just as Windows starts.
Go to the Control Panel and select Programs. Find and Uninstall "Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop".
Reinstall it by downloading it from the website  https://creative.adobe.com/products/creative-cloud
    Restart your machine.
Only in "Safe Mode" are you likely to be able to accomplish these tasks reliably.

I can't seem to get rid of OR use Adobe Reader after I let it into Safari 7.  How do I get to the point where Reader is not my preferred anything, but can still be used if Preview won't open something?

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print or save PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to do so by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar should appear under the cursor. Click the printer or disk icon.
    Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    and check the box marked
              Allow Plug-ins
    Then click
              Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
    Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others—I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

  • I have a Olympus C-3000 and it won't read in the new iphoto.  It reads in my old version on my older computer.  Is there a driver I need or something else?

I have a Olympus C-3000 and it won't read in the new iphoto.  It reads in my old version on my older computer.  Is there a driver I need or something else?

Yes, different computers, different OS's, as stated, does not work on any machine except PPC.
Nothing in console logs.  Does not show up in USB under system profiler.
Level 1 tech support.  "May be this" or "may be that", but all a waste of time unless someone has the actual camera and can independently verify my results.
If it were just a matter of it happening on one machine that would be one thing.  The fact that it only does not work on Intel based machines (and thus Snow Leopard and Lion) it is a pretty good indicator that something is missing in the OS.

  • How do you change the "read more ..." in the Blog page to something else?

I'd like to change the "read more ..." in the Blog page to say something more relevant to my site. How can this be done?
I searched the forums and found an earlier response to this question, but I don't quite understand it:
Find index.xml.gz file (open: Macintosh HD ->
    Applications -> iWeb -> Contents -> Resources -> e.g.
    English.lproj -> Templates -> Blog -> e.g. White
    Blog.webtemplate -> index.xml.gz).
Open file and edit it in TextEdit. Replace all "read
more..." with your own text. Delete index.xml.gz file.
I'm a little confused by this reply. To open the index.xml.gz file within the app, do you navigate there with Terminal.app, unzip it, edit the file with Text Edit, then re-gzip it?
Second, why do you delete index.xml.gz afterwards?
And third, will this need to be redone each time iWeb is upgraded?
Has anyone tried this and know if this is the correct way to change the words, or is there some other way?

This tedious process actually edits the template xml file within the iWeb application, so that it becomes the default with the template. I haven't done this before, so I'm the wrong person to advise on this.
I tend to like to do things that are on a simpler scale. You can always make a text box with an opaque background color that matches the blog template background. Then type something else into that text box, like "click here to see more of me" Then position this text box over the standard "read more" and link the text to the blog entry.
The downside....you'll have to do this (at least position the text box and change the link) each time you add an entry.
