Adobe Reader Patches - lack of cumulative patches!

Dear Adobe,
Could you *please* think about us poor sods who have to actually maintain your products in enterprise setups?
I dont want to have to install V9.1.1. and then patch with 9.1.2 and then patch with 9.1.3. This is a nightmare. How about either releasing a straight 9.1.3 base product or a consolidated patch that can be applied straight to 9.1.1? You know - like the majority of other software vendors do...? (I know not all do, but in this day and age the lack of cumulative patches is inexcusable).
Yes I'm ranting, but I'm getting rather tired of lots of insecure products and poor management practices from vendors.
Cheers,
Mike

  • Adobe Reader 11.0 mui and patches

I am trying to install reader 11.0. I use the Wizard XI to configure the install to turn off autoupdates. then saved it. I should be able to now run the setup.exe and it will look at the setup.ini file for install configurations. It does work and install 11.0 MUI however  when I add the line shown below to install the 2 msp's  (PATCH=AdbeRdrUpd11001.msp;AdbeRdrSecUpd11002.msp) it is not installing them it just installs the 11.0 version and not the patches. Can you tell me what I am doing wrong? thanks

Does the Adobe 9.1.3 SP3 have the Security Patch already in it?  Or, do we need to install the Security Patch to fix the hole?

  • Applying Adobe Reader 8.1.2 Security Patch on top of Adobe Pro 7.x

    Hi,
Our firm has a number of users running Adobe Standard and Professional 7.x. These users also have Adobe Reader 8 installed simultaneously as well.
According to the Adobe security bulletin below, the security patch for Adobe Standard and Professional 7.x will not be released until May 2008:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/security/advisories/apsa08-01.html
Question: if we deployed Adobe Reader 8.1.2 (which addresses the same security vulnerabilities mentioned in the above link) on top of Adobe Standard and Professional 7.x, will the vulnerability be fixed? The businesses will not be upgrading to Adobe Standard / Professional 8.1.2.
    Thank you,
    Roland Thomas

Not to make excuses or anything but, it's more than a security patch.

  • When will we get the Adobe Reader 11.0.05 MUI patch?

    Hi,
We are currently trying to set up an automated installation of Adobe Reader 11 on our SCCM system, using the MUI installer. We have created corresponding MSP and MST files, and it all works fine.
Our problem is that the latest MUI patch is 11.0.04, and not 11.0.05, meaning that we do not get the latest security updates. The 11.0.04 patch dates back to late September last year, so we kinda expected the 11.0.05 to have arrived by now.
    Any release dates?
    Best regards, Jan.

    Hi,
We tried the installations from scratch today, but still encounter problems.
    This is what we do:
    1. msiexec /i AdbeRdr11000_mui_std\acroread.msi TRANSFORMS=acroread.mst /passive
    2. msiexec /update AdbeRdrUpd11004_MUI.msp /passive
    3. msiexec /update AcrobatSecUpd11005.msp /passive
Items 1 and 2 work fine. The installation conforms to the MST file and the version ends up being 11.0.04 MUI. When we try to run the security update, it fails. I only have a Danish version of the text, but it basically says it cannot install because the program being updated is a wrong version or cannot be found.
    Any clues?
    Best regards, Jan.

  • Unable to install Adobe reader Patch

    Hi,
kindly help me on below issue..
I am not able to install Adobe reader patch file it is installing some systems but maximum of systems are getting failed. Here below I have attached the log file and the installation batch file whatever I am using.
The Command I am using through batch file.
    @echo off
    "%~dp0AdbeRdrSecUpd11008.msp" /quiet /passive /q /norestart

1642 = "The upgrade cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer
and that you have the correct upgrade."
Adobe reader updates are *not* cumulative and only apply to specific versions and patch levels. Adobe has tables on their enterprise support website that detail what patches are applicable to what versions. Here's the one for Reader 10 (can't find the one
for Reader 11 but I'm sure it exists).

  • I have uninstalled and reinstalled the most current edition of Adobe Reader, including the patch. When I open a PDF file, the screen is first grey, then viewable, but the message "Adobe Reader has stopped working" comes up. How do I remedy this?

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the most current edition of Adobe Reader (11.9), including the patch. When I open a PDF file, the screen is first grey, then viewable, but then the message "Adobe Reader has stopped working" comes up. How do I remedy this?

    RR,
One thing often tried first is to create a new document and File>Place the corrupted one to see how much may be rescued that way (remember to tick Paste remembers Layers in the Layer palette flyout/dropdown first, and to untick it afterwards).
Here is a website where you can see whether it can rescue the file, and if it can, you may pay for a subscription to have it done,
    http://www.recoverytoolbox.com/buy_illustrator.html
    and another similar website,
    http://markzware.com/adobe-software/fix-illustrator-file-unknown-error-occurred-pdf2dtp-fi le-recovery/
As far as I remember, the former is for Win and the latter for Mac.
Here are a few pages about struggling with it yourself:
    http://daxxter.wordpress.com/2009/04/16/how-to-recover-a-corrupted-illustrator-ai-file/
    http://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/troubleshoot-damaged-illustrator-files.html
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/500/cpsid_50032.html
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/500/cpsid_50031.html
    http://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/enable-content-recovery-mode-illustrator.html
Failing a full recovery, hopefully you have one or more earlier versions and/or bits of artwork saved before it happened.

  • Adobe Reader 6

Can anyone suggest a clean, elegant way to create an app to install
Adobe Reader 6 with all of its updates? (We have a bunch of Windows 98
machines that can't use AR 7.) The way Adobe has distributed AR 6 and
its patches has been idiotic. To get to the latest you have to install
version 6.01, followed by the 6.02 patch, then 6.03, then 6.04, and
6.05. The patch files are executables that have MSIs rather than MSPs
in them, so I can't make an MSI application and simply add on patches.
Would I be best off just taking a snapshot of the entire installation
    sequence?

If the patch is a msp, then you can apply it to the inital msi NAL app
object. There is a location for this in the MSI properties of the NAL
    object.

I have installed Adobe Reader 10.1.0,  and I want to upgrade it to 10.1.3. Do I only need install Adobe Reader 10.1.3 update?? Or I also need install 10.1.1 and 10.1.2 updates??? Thanks.

Adobe Reader's updates are cumulative.  You can install the 10.1.3 update alone and be up-to-date.

  • Adobe Reader and Acrobat Pro updates for 11.0.10 being pushed out through SolarWinds Patch Manager are not being recognized as applicable.

I am trying to update our Adobe Reader and Acrobat Pro to 11.0.10 using the default MSP packages with SolarWinds Patch Manager.  All of the systems keep reporting as 'NOT APPLICABLE'.  All of the workstations have Reader11.0.09, with about 10% still on 11.0.08 (due to the fact that the reader 11.0.09 package only patched about 2/3 of the systems).  All systems that have Acrobat Pro are 11.0.09.
In SolarWinds I am using the "Adobe Systems, Inc. Packages" node.
    Adobe Systems Acrobat 11 Catalog
    Adobe Systems Reader 11 Catalog
and the SW Patch Manager downloads the msp's straight from Adobe.
I have checked the msp's manually and they will update at least back to 11.0.07 in Reader, and 11.0.0 in Acrobat Pro. (I had an old stand alone system that still had Reader 11.0.07, and I did a new install of Pro and went straight to update 11.0.10)
The SolarWinds Tech said, "Okay. That content is produced by Adobe. Any questions concerning applicability logic or diagnosing why a package reports as NotApplicable when that's not expected would need to be directed to Adobe, as they are solely responsible for that content and its behavior".
I am new to SolarWinds Patch Manager, and any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like you are attempting to use the SCUP catalogs outside of the MS solution.  I can almost guarantee you that Adobe didn't test it if it's not referenced in the ETK:  11   SCCM-SCUP — Enterprise Administration Guide
That being said there "should" be logging available in any deployment solution.   Since I am not familiar with Solar-Winds particular solution I can't say if it logs errors and how verbose those logs might be.    If you have logs then post the output and the forum members "might" be able to assist you.

  • Adobe Reader 11 MUI failing to install using transform and patch 11.0.10 via cmd/SCCM in one package

    Hello,
I have all the files, MST and the patch located in one folder. I am trying to use the following MSI command lines locally on my computer before I can attempt to deploy this via SCCM 2012. I am having issues either with the package not compatible or using /p and getting the MSIEXEC help window prompt. I've tried a few command lines:
    msiexec /i AcroRead.msi PATCH="AdbeRdrUpd11010_MUI.msp" TRANSFORMS="AcroRead.mst"
    msiexec /i AcroRead.msi /p AdbeRdrUpd11010_MUI.msp TRANSFORMS="AcroRead.mst"
    msiexec /i AcroRead.msi TRANSFORMS="AcroRead.mst" /p AdbeRdrUpd11010_MUI.msp
Adding /qn on the end makes the install work silently when not attempting to include the patch, but fails to install it silently when only using the transform file that I have selected in the wizard to silently install.
We have 5 different versions from 8.0 through 10.0 in our environment of 3000 machines. Sadly this was not managed before...I can easily update our current 11.0 versions that range from 11 to 11.0.09 by only applying the patch to them but need to get the full install working for the 2500 machines I need to target.
I tried using the /a command which seems to work, but creates program files and common files folders inside my adobe folder on the desktop when executing it from the cmd. Am i suppose to package that folder all in one and then use the /i command to install adobe? I've been researching for a week but finally hit a wall where I dont think I am getting anywhere.
    Thank you in advance,
    Kevin

I have almost answered my own question as I just came across this link
    https://it-god.co.uk/deploy-adobe-reader-xi-11-0-10-with-sccm-2012/
This is for the plain reader version, but we use MUI now (due to other languages required in our environmet). I get to the part where it asks to apply the patch to the AIP folder but it fails.
    msiexec /p AdbeRdrUpd11010.msp /a C:\Reader\11.0.10\AcroRead.msi
I changed this to account for the MUI naming,
    msiexec /p AdbeRdrUpd11010_MUI.msp /a C:\Reader\11.0.10\AcroRead.msi
But I get the windows prompt that says this package can not be opened, please verify. I ensured that both the patch and base install were MUI versions, and i downloaded fresh copies of each. I also unblocked the patch so that it can run. No luck so far.
EDIT: Using another guide i found the command line (modified the path to my location) and this worked,
    msiexec /a C:\adobe\Reader\11.0.10\AcroRead.msi /qb /p AdbeRdrUpd11010_MUI.msp TARGETDIR=C:\adobe\Reader\11.0.10\
