How do I make Adobe Reader my default for PDF when I open an attachment in email?

That depends upon your email program (assuming you are using one) and your OS. Is Reader your Default program in the OS for handing pdf files?

I am using Adobe 8 Professional and working on Windows XP. I have been facing an issue lately with opening files in a dual-monitor environment. All my Adobe Reader (PDF) files are opening only in the secondary monitor by default. There are times when I work only in one monitor and when I open a PDF file and want to have a look at it, I have to connect another monitor to view that file, since this file is open in the secondary monitor. It is very disappointing with such instances happening with Adobe (a leading organization). Can you please help so that the Adobe Reader files open in the primary monitor by default?

I am wondering if there is a registry setting that can disable the pop-up Make Adobe Reader my default PDF Application ?
I have seen there is a setting under Edit\Preferences\General\"Tell me if Adobe Reader is not my default PDF Application" but cannot find a registry setting to disable this. This message pops up for some users in a remote desktop session host environment even though I have disabled the messages on the session hosts.

Thank You for posting on the forums. Kindly try the below mentioned steps and check ,if it helps.
1) launch adobe Reader
2) Click on Edit>Preferences
3)Go to General under Categories
4) Click on "Select Default Pdf Handler"
5) Choose adobe Reader
After performing this workflow, you might see an installation window. do not worry, it is just a new configuration of PDF handler being updated in the system.

What is your current default? If Adobe Acrobat (X or XI), you can set it in your preferences.
If it's another program, reinstalling or repairing Adobe Reader will set it to the default program.

Problem printing from Adobe Reader .pdf with Brother printer from a Mac

I have a macbook pro with Intel Core i7 and OS X Yosemite and Brother MFC-7360N printer connected by wifi. My problem is that I can print everything from all programs except from the Adobe Reader .pdf that do I print from my Preview files .. The error I get is "Error filter". Does anyone know where can originate the error and how to fix it?

With another O.S. in another computer is OK.

Opening Adobe Reader PDF

Four months ago I wrote that when I tried to open Adobe Reader PDF for any reason, Photoshop Elements 4 took over and Adobe Reader was opened in PE4.
I was given advice toopen and check in a word document my file association and to "tell" the system to open in Adobe PDF format. I did that but whenever I open Adobe PDF for any reason (the last occasion was to download my travel insurance from Insure and Go), PE4 opens and Adobe PDF has to be printed from inside that programme. Nothing has changed.
I want Adobe Reader PDF to open in its own format, and I want to stop Adobe Reader PDF being opened inside the PE4 programme. How do I do it?
I do not want to get rid of PE4 as I use it extensively for photography. But I want it to stay with photos and stop opening for documents like my travel insurance. Thank you. Rod Colyer

Don't know that you can with Reader. You should ask in the Reader forum that is linked at the top of this forum. In Acrobat it is easy, but Reader does not have the editing capabilities of Acrobat and it is probably not directly possible.

I had MS Word set by Windows 7/64 as .PDF default and could not get any version of Adobe Reader to install as the default. Adobe support rejected the case Your Case Number:0181940706. After much searching, I found a Windows forum (not in Microsoft) that had the attached tool. Worked great, all pdf files now have acrord icons and open automagically (sic) with Reader X.
I've attached the link for you. If Ray at Adobe support reaads this, feel free to share it with your co-workers. The tools can fix a defeult association for any file type.

How do I restore Adobe Reader as default PDF viewer in Safari

Sometime in the last few days Preview became the default viewer for PDFs in Safari. I prefer Adobe Reader, and up until recently it was the default viewer. Funny thing is I don't think I've made any changes to Preferences or any System updates in that time. I don't see any Preferences in Preview, Safari, or Adobe Reader, which might affect this. The AdobePDFViewer plugins are still in place.
Also strange when I click the open PDF in Preview button, it actually opens in Reader.

Select the icon of a PDF file. Go to File > Get Info (or cmd-I). In the new window, go to Open with and choose in the pulldown menu the application you want to use to open PDF files. Click on Change all... Close the window. Come back here and tell us if this did it.

Control/click (or right click if you're using a two button mouse) on whatever file you're wanting to change the association to. In the menu that comes up select "Get Info" and another box will open. Down towards the bottom you should see Open with: and a drop down that has suggested apps. If it's in the list select it (if not navigate to it) and then once that file is associated with whatever app. right below you'll see Change All... and select it and now all those file types will open with whatever app you've selected.

Open Adobe Reader PDF Search window by passing directory to search in...

I have a directory on my C drive fill of OCRed PDF. My users are not that sophisticated enough to tell them how to do it step by step... I would prefer to write a BAT/CMD file so when they click on it, it would open Adobe search window by passing my directory as default to the Adobe Reader so they can type their search characters in the search area and search for their desired character string in the directory that I have passed to them via BAT/CMD file... Could you please give me example or guide me how it can be done?

I have Professional version... Do you have answer to this using adobe pro? Yes I know there is reader Furom.... I could use both but I prefer to use pro version.

Adobe reader xi default printer is not current printer

I am using windows 7 64bit and adobe reader xi. The default printer listed on the pull down menu of reader is an old printer (Xerox 2015) and cannot be changed. The default printer on the system (Xerox 2205) is different to that listed in reader. I have unchecked enhanced security, unloaded the drivers for the printer and reloaded from Xerox website. I have unloaded and reloaded reader several times. I can print from word or another program but I am unable to print any PDF document as I am unable to change the default printer. The xerox 2205 is not listed under reader at all but is set as default printer under windows. Any ideas?

Like when open a drawing pdf which is inserted into Excel(office 365) as an object, some lines, dimensions with remark can not be displayed and only few graph can be displayed.
But if the drawing is a separate PDF file, not inserted into Excel(office 365)as an object, the Adobe XI reader can always open it with all graphs, figures, texts, lines etc. smoothly.

Please explain in full detal what you are trying to do and what happens when you try. I don't understand what you mean by "displacing a pdf (file?)".
