Adobe Reader pdf printing problem

I can print word docs but not pdfs.  Adobe reader does not recognize my printer.  Any help is appreciated!

Windows 7, latest version of HP printer driver, Adobe XI.  The HP printer I have hooked up (works fine) is not listed in the printer scroll down menu.

  • Adobe Reader X Printing Problem

I upgraded to 'X', am running Windows XP and have an HP LaserJet 4100N printer. I mostly print out sets of loan documents, average 100 pages per set, mixed legal and letter size pages. When I upgraded to Adobe Reader X, legal size pages were randomly not printing the bottom 1/3 or so of each page. Since I travel to have these docs signed, it created quite a problem for me when it first happened. I could print smaller batches (1-5 pages, legal size only) and it worked, but printing the whole set, mixed paper sizes, I continued to have this problem.
Luckily I had kept an installation for Adobe Reader 9, so I uninstalled 'X' and reinstalled '9'. voila - the problem disappeared.
But I am hoping someone from Adobe will read this and work on this problem.

I can confirm this problem.  Rolling back to version 9.4 fixes it.
One of my clients is a travel notary and ran into this issue today.  All print settings were set up per Adobe's instructions at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/332/332720.html#main_Mixed_sizes when the problem occurred.  We had recently upgraded to Reader X, and had never had the probem before.  I eventually traced it to a problem in the new version.  Uninstalling and installing version 9.4 fixed the issue.  I cannot include the actual document due to privacy concerns, but I will include a screen shot that has been sanitized.

  • Adobe Reader 9 Print problem

When I try to print PDF's from reader my printer accepts the job but seems to push the top margin down a few inches, cutting off content.  I'm working with Reader 9.3.4 in Mac OS Snow Leopard.  My printer is an HP Deskjet F4280.  This is the only program in which I have this problem.  I've gone into print settings in Reader but don't see anything to change.  I eventried printing multiple pages on a sheet which also was pushed down on the sheet and cut off.  If there are multiple pages my print job will push each page down sllightly and print all pages in the range, but does continue to cut offf content from each page.  Any ideas?

  • Adobe 11 A3 Printing Problems

    Hi,
We are having problems printing from adobe documents from Adobe 11 when printing A3 documents.  It will print out the first page OK, then on subsquent pages it will askew the print and put it off the page.  We are using Windows 7 Pro and printing to a new Lexmark C925 A3 printer.
    Any suggestions ?

I went to the pull-down menu, selected "Print" and then at the bottom of the print window, there were 4 buttons (in addition to "OK" and "Cancel"):  "Print Tips" "Page Setup" "Advanced" and "Summarize Comments."  Under "Advanced" there is a "Print as Image" box near the bottom of the new "Advanced Print Setup" window that opens.  Once you check the  "Print as Image" box, you should be ok for any Adobe documents you open in the future.

I have not been able to find your "print as image" solution so I'm still stuck at the moment.   How did you find the "print as image" choice?

  • Adobe Reader X prints large black spots in large documents

I have a user with Windows XP SP3 and Adobe Reader X.  When he prints a catalog with images, it randomly prints large black spots throughout the document.  If I print one of the individual pages that had black spots, it prints fine.  Are there any known issues that would cause this or does anyone have any suggestions?  He is printing to a Toshiba eStudios 5520c copier.  No one else has the problem printing to this printer but, he is the only one using Adobe Reader to print catalogs to this printer.  Everyone else printing catalogs to this printer use at least Adobe Pro of some version (the versions differ between users).  I have increased the size of the page file and reinstalled the printer driver.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks for providing the information.
Could you please try and reinstall the printer driver on this user's machine and see if it solves the issue.
Also, do all PDFs with images produce the same output from this user's machine?
Would it be possible for you to share any such PDF? I have sent you my email address as a Private Message.

  • More PDF Printing Problems

There are lots of notes in this forum crying about PDF printing problems. For what it's worth, I'd like to add mine.
I'm using Jakarta FOP to generate a PDF on the fly from XML data. The PDFs it's producing are read and displayed nicely by Adobe Acrobat and print from Acrobat without a problem.
I've also written a simple desktop app that exercises the java.print package. (I won't bore anybody with a listing.) It uses the PrintServiceLookup to discover the two networked printers I have attached to my machine, using DocFlavor.INPUT_STREAM.AUTOSENSE. I have it discover all the supported document flavors. Here's the result:
    application/octet-stream
    application/x-java-jvm-local-objectref
    image/gif
    image/jpeg
    image/png
I can sent text documents to the printer without a problem. But when I try to send a PDF generated by FOP that renders and prints fine from Acrobat, I get gibberish text out. I'm using DocFlavor.INPUT_STREAM.AUTOSENSE as my DocFlavor when I create the doc.
I don't see application/pdf on my list of supported document flavors. Should I? If that's a requirement, what do I have to do to the printer to get it on the list? Why is Adobe Acrobat smart enough to print to a printer wo/ this flavor and javax.print not? TIA - MOD

Now I get it - I can't send PDFs from Java to a printer. A careful reading of forum threads and John Zukowski's note have driven a stake into the heart of the vampire.
I can bring them up just fine by creating the PDF using FOP and then sending the page back to the browser for rendering. If my client could just print the document from his machine, all would be well.
However, my app has a situation where some label printers will ONLY be attached to the server. They won't be visible from the client. I thought I had a solution with javax.print, but now that hope's gone.
The printers I have aren't Postscript, so suggestions to ask FOP to generate Postcript won't help me.
Adobe's site didn't offer any relief.
I haven't been able to find any for-fee or open source packages that might help. Plenty of stuff out there to convert to PDF, but nothing that helps to print it once you have it.
Is there any point in entering this as a bug in the database? It's less bug and more vaporware. After all, the docs never SAID they'd thrown an invalid flavor exception if you tried to print a PDF.
Sun, are you listening? - MOD

  • Opening Adobe Reader PDF

Four months ago I wrote that when I tried to open Adobe Reader PDF for any reason, Photoshop Elements 4 took over and Adobe Reader was opened in PE4.
I was given advice toopen and check in a word document my file association and to "tell" the system to open in Adobe PDF format.  I did that but whenever I open Adobe PDF for any reason (the last occasion was to download my travel insurance from Insure and Go), PE4 opens and Adobe PDF has to be printed from inside that programme.  Nothing has changed.
I want Adobe Reader PDF to open in its own format, and I want to stop Adobe Reader PDF being opened inside the PE4 programme.  How do I do it?
I do not want to get rid of PE4 as I use it extensively for photography.  But I want it to stay with photos and stop opening for documents like my travel insurance.  Thank you.  Rod Colyer

  • Adobe Create PDF printer not working fully!

    Hi all!
I have a minor problem with Adobe Create PDF printer. I installed and I was able to print couple word docs, but stopped working.
I dont know why. I am still able to print web pages and others, but cant "print" pdf from word, ooutlook, Autocad, etc.
It is stopped working correctly after I tried to print from Autocad, also I have had problems with activating my Photoshop sub and Adobe support made same changes to my AAM and Photoshop, may be that is what caused my problem, I don't know, neither does support. Support has no other idea we went thru every detail but still can't use Create PDF correctly.
    Any ideas?
I have already installed this hotfix:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat-com/kb/createpdf-desktop-printer-windows-7.html
    But still no solution.

    Hi,
after installing Adobe Reader X  I cannot print any other paper format than A4 to my HP designjet Plotter 750c (E/A0).
Changing Paper Format in printer driver has no effekt in the printing dialog of Adobe Reader X.
Printing from Adobe Reader X to my other Printer Ricoh MPC2050 I can change between A5 to A3 without Problems.
With the old version Adober Reader 9.xx this was no problem and I could print all paper formats HP750c Plotter supports.
Adobe Reader X runs hier on a Windows XP system. Other software like autocad works well with HP750c Plotter with als supported paper formats.
HP Plotter Designjet 750c driver for Windows XP has version 4.65 (latest german version on HP website)
Has anybody any Ideas, where there ist the Problem?
    Thanks for your help

I have just found this post and am still experiencing this problem, still, even after updating to 10.1, and still trying the disabling of Protected Mode at startup. I am running Windows 7, 32bit version. I am trying to print to an HP 4500 series plotter, on ARCH size D (24x36). Once I set all of my settings and hit print, I receive two dialogue boxes. One says "The document could not be printed." Once you click "OK", a second box pops up that says, "There were no pages selected to print." However, under "Print Range", I had "All" selected.
All worked fine before updating to Acrobat X.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Have you tried downloading a sample pdf like any Adobe help file from the website and then check if you are able to launch it fine via Reader?

  • Adobe Reader Cannot Print or Update

Has anyone been able to figure out how to get Adobe Reader to print in Leopard? I have a clean install of Leopard 10.5.8 and I ran the Adobe installer from the website. For some reason the installer installs 9.1.0, even though they are up to 9.1.3 now. I run the automatic update on Adobe and it says the installation failed because the program has been modified since I installed it originally. So the version I'm running is 9.1.1. I even tried manually installing the 9.1.2 update and it still fails. It says to try uninstalling and reinstalling. I cannot locate an uninstaller on the Adobe website, so I manually deleted the program and the Application support files and preferences files, and did a clean install again. Same problem. The worst part is that 9.1.1 cannot print files, presumably due to a bug that they hopefully fixed by 9.1.3. Whenever I try to print it just says the document could not be printed and then it says no pages were selected to be printed (whether I tell it to print all pages or select pages). Anyone find a solution to this problem. Big problem if Adobe Reader cannot print!

Unfortunately, Adobe does not see fit to provide any direct support for Reader. Another fine standard set for the world of customer service.
I did find something buried in the middle of a very long thread after trying the various other fixes listed there:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/1771565#1771565
It looks like this is another example of sloppy coding and case-sensitive vs. case-insensitive file systems. I found out several weeks back that this is why I my CS wasn't working, either. While I could solve that problem with a case-insensitive disk image, this doesn't work for Reader9, which only allows installation on the startup disk. This is also the reason why I couldn't update past 9.1, as this thread details:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2086122#2086122
When I "fixed" those filenames, I was able to update to 9.1.3, but now I could no longer open the file I need for my grant submission.
Long story short, I used carbon copy cloner to clone onto a case-INsensetive external disk. I'm now booted off that, was able to install & upgrade reader to 9.1.3. I can now open my key file and I can print and even open the preferences within Reader.

  • Frame Maker 9 and 10 PDF Print problem

Frame Maker 9 and 10 PDF Print problem
Hi I have an computer with windows 7 and the Adobe Software.
The Distiller 9 with adobe Acrobat 9 and Adobe Design Standard CS3 is also installed.
Now, I open in Frame Maker 9(Full Version) or 10(Trial Version)   an *.fm File. Then I go to “File- save as pdf” and then save I receive an message like this:
“to execute the ‘Save as PDF’  is necessary to have install Acrobat Distiller 5.05 or higher”.  But I have the Distiller 9.
Then I can click OK and now I receive another message like this:  “you must  define “PDF job options” if you want to execute it.”
If I look for the PDF job options I can’t select something. But if I look in the Distiller I have a lot of option I can select.
What is the problem. Is there a solution?
    Can somebody help me?

Using AW 6.2.9 and Mac OS X v10.5.7, the file prints successfully to pdf using the "Save as PDF..." option in the print dialogue. I didn't try to print the result to paper, but that appears to eliminate the file itself as the cause of the problem.
Two first aid steps that might resolve the issue:
    Delete the AW preferences.
In the Finder, click the house icon (yourname) in the sidebar of a Finder window, then Library > Preferences..
Locate and delete the file com.apple.appleworks.plist
       Open the folder AppleWorks
Delete both cache files and the two preferences files.
It's also safe to delete the Button Bars file, but unless you have issues related to the Button Bars, you're also safe to leave it there.
AppleWorks will create new (and clean) versions of these files as it needs them.
    Repair Permissions.
Go Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility
Launch the application, select your startup drive, click First Aid, click Repair Permissions.
    Regards,
    Barry
