Adobe reader plugin missing from firefox plugins list on redhat 6.1

Hello,
I'm having a problem with putting adobe reader 9 plugin installed on firefox 3.6.17 on redhat 6.1 (64bit)
(Not recreatable on redhat 5.4 with same versions of reader and firefox)
Even though nppdf.so appears in the directory /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins directory with 755 permissions,
when I start firefox, it is missing from the plugins list.
How can I ensure it is properly installed or what steps can I take to debug the problem deeper?
Thanks!!

Thank you for your post miditt1.

  • Problem with Adobe Reader 9.1.3/Firefox plugin

After applying the Reader 9.1.3 update on our Windows XP computers (using Firefox 3.5.2), some PDFs downloaded will not load properly using the web browser plugin.  An example is at
    http://apply07.grants.gov/apply/opportunities/packages/oppONRBAA09-029-cfda12.300-cidONRBA A09-029.pdf
Saving this PDF to disk and opening directly with Reader 9.1.3, Acrobat 9.1.3 or Acrobat 8.1.3 seems to work fine.  Opening the document using Internet Explorer 7 with the Reader plugin enabled also seems to work fine.
I do not have information on how these PDF files are generated.  Tech support staff at grants.gov suggested to downgrade to Adobe Reader 9.1.2 to get around this particular issue.
If you know of a way to get around this issue with any sort of system configuration on our end (registry key settings, etc.), please let me know.

I have just clicked on the link above (Windows XP-SP3, Firefox 3.5.2, Adobe Reader 9.1.3), and it appears to display exactly the same as the downloaded file in Adobe Reader.  I cannot see any difference.
My version of Adobe Reader was installed with the download that does not contain Adobe AIR & Acrobat.com: http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/9.x/9.1/enu/AdbeRdr910_en_US.exe, then upgraded to 9.1.1, 9.1.2, 9.1.3 - I don't know if this would make a difference.

  • Save Image ..why is it missing from Firefox when IE has it ?

Such a fundamental thing to have as the ability to save an image is missing from Firefox and as I have gone over to Firefox from IE I am dumbfounded as to why Mozilla fails to feature this. Why is this ? I have the add on but you get 'save images from current tab', when right clicking on an image that has launched on screen after clicking on a thumbnail, and you end up with hundreds of images, every damn bit of the webpage, the big image is indistinguishable from its thumbnail and every image has to be looked at and discarded until one finds the bigger versions. Who in their right mind would want every little bit of a webpage ? The large images look the same as the thumbnails and each one has to be enlarged to see if its the big image or not.
A task that took seconds in IE takes half an hour.
Can we see Firefox catch up with IE6 for image saving ?

Having now tried another website, where images do not have thumbnails, I have 'save image as', though the dropdown window is empty, no options on file type, its those where clicking a thumbnail sees a new window appear, rotating dots then the image occurs. No save image as, only the save image plugin which proceeds to capture everything. Trying IE on this I see also no save image option, so I guess its the website not Firefox. I shall have to use printscreen button I guess.
I dont know why the dropdown combobox gives no options of file type, IE6 didnt have much but jpg or bmp was offered.

  • Calendar missing from iCal's list.

Noticed today that our Work calendar is missing from iCal's list. Checked partner's iMac, iPad, 2 iPhones, MobileMe. Missing from all of them. Turned off syncing with MobileMe on both iMacs & all other devices. Quit iCal/Calendar on everything.
In Finder window selected ~/Library. Entered Time Machine. Selected ~/Library/Calendars. Selected a timeline a few days back. Clicked Restore. Said 'Keep both', & removed original from Library folder.
Opened iCal. When it first loaded the calendars, Work was there, but it quickly disappeared and what's more, events added in other calendars since the timeline date chosen were there too. So there's something else (to do with Sync Services?) I need to turn off or delete....?
I'll be very grateful for enlightenment here.
    OS is 10.6.8

These are evidently MobileMe calendars, to which the Apple Tech Note linked to above does not apply; and turning off syncing in System Preferences>MobileMe>Sync has no effect on iCal syncing which no longer uses that method.
This is why your calendar is disappearing: MobileMe sees it as deleted, so every time you add it back in from Time Machine (whereupon it has an earlier modification date than the deletion) MobileMe brings it up to date by deleting it, and also updates the other calendars.
There is a method for dealing with this issue, though it's a trifle complicated and you need to work through the steps carefully and exactly. The process is detailed here:

  • Opening PDF Files in Adobe Reader XI directly from SharePoint 2013 Site

I am trying to open PDF files in Adobe Reader XI directly from a SharePoint 2013 document library using Internet Explorer 11. When I click the file name it immediately opens the file in Adobe Reader, however it is downloading and opening the file locally
from the Temporary Internet Files location. If I add a comment to the PDF file, and save it will perform a Save As and the location will default to the temporary folder.
If instead of clicking the file name, I click the ellipses in SharePoint, copy the file URL, and go to Adobe Reader, click File > Open and paste the link into the file name, Adobe Reader will correctly open the file directly from the SharePoint site and
prompt for "Open and Checkout, Open, or Cancel".
Is there a way to get it so that when I click the file in IE, I get the same functionality as a File > Open in Adobe Reader?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
According to your description, you want to open pdf file in the Adobe Reader directly from document library.
I suggest you do as the followings:
    1. In SharePoint Central Administration site, click Application Management->Manage Web Applications, select the web application for the site. Click Authentication
Providers, select default zone, and select Yes for "Enable Client Integration?".
    2. click Site Settings-> Site collection features->"Open Documents in Client Applications by Default" click Activate
    3. set the default open behavior for a document library by using the document library settings page.
    4. Enable the “Adobe Arcobat SharePoint OpenDocuments Component”add-on in the IE11.
    5. Add your current site URL to the trusted web sites in IE11.

  • What do I do if Adobe Reader is not in Open In list as an app on iPad?

What I do if Adobe Reader is not in Open In list as an app on iPad?

    Hi,
The Open-In menu on iPad lists a maximum of ten apps. You also need to scroll down the list to see some of the listed apps.
In case Adobe Reader does not show up in the menu, you may choose to delete some of the other apps which may result in Adobe Reader being listed in the Open In menu.
Please let us know if this solves your issue.
    Thanks,
    Rishi

Why the question marks? Can you open PDF files or not? You don't need Firefox to open PDF files.

  • Adobe Reader XI Plugin Missing from Chrome

I have recently noticed that the plugin for Adobe Reader XI has gone missing from my version of Chrome.  I have tried uninstalling Adobe Reader and downloading the most recent version, but each time I do this and then check my Chrome plugins, the plugin is not listed.  This is keeping me from using Chrome as my browser when I wish to view PDF documents.  Does anyone have any information on this?

Thank you for your help, but it does not resolve my issue.  I do not have Adobe Reader listed as a plugin in Chrome.  I need to have it listed in order to use a program called SIRAS for my work.  How do I get the plugin into this list?

  • Pcsx2 grafics plugin missing from gui options

I have installed pcsx2 and in the configuration I have no choise for Graphics.
(I have selectefd 4 plugins dir the /opt/pcsx2/plugins.
I looked in /opt/pcsx2/plugins and found libZeroGSoglr.so.0.96.2 which maybe is the graphics plugin.
So why I cant select it in the gui (its not visible).
The graphics card (old nvidia) isnt compatile with the plugin?
(all the other options are visible only this isnt)
Does anybody has the correct plugin, can upload it somewhere so pcsx2 can run?

Normaly I take a gui msg:
Could Not Load GS Plugin 'plugins/':plugins/:cannot read file data: Is a directory
    but
    I made a change in /opt/pcsx2/inis/pcsx2.cfg file
In line GS= had nothing and put libZeroGSoglr.so.0.96.2. saved. After that I take gui message:
Could Not Load GS Plugin 'plugins/libZeroGSoglr.so.0.96.2':plugins/libZeroGSoglr.so.0.96.2:undefined symbol: glXGetProcAddress
Smells like the card. Still no appearence of the plugin in gui.
    Console gives nothing.
The weird is that the first time the gui msg was "pcsx2 needs to be configured" only.
After the 1st set for the plugins path (/opt/pcsx2/plugins) started to display the above.
But the damm graphics plugin made no appearence from the 1st place.

  • Whitelist for Adobe Reader 10 and 11 Web Plugin?

We need to have PDFs open in IE automatically for a list of domains and websites where employees need this function to work to do their job, but we don't want Adobe Reader integration with the browser triggered by random websites on the Internet due to malware that uses this function to infect computers.
    How can this be done?

Can you try this next: navigate to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader (if you have Reader XI installed), or C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader (Reader XI on 64-bit Windows), and double-click on Eula.exe, then accept the license agreement.
    Does that fix the problem?

  • Adobe Reader Error | Windows 7 | FireFox

Recently I reformatted my computer and upgraded to windows 7. Everything is working really well, up to today, where I need to open a PDF file.
In FireFox I get this error
Firefox could not install the file at
    http://platformdl.adobe.com/NOS/getPlusPlus/1.6/gp.xpi
because: Not a valid install package
    -207
In Internet Explorer I get a unknown publisher error.
    I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium; 64-Bit
If you need more information I can provide.
    Thanks in advance,
    Nikc-Nack

207 errors in Firefox indicate that the XPI file is corrupted. An XPI file is a special type of ZIP file containing the add-on and instructions for Firefox about how to install it. In this case it's the get++ add-on which is triggered when Firefox is asked to open a PDF file but there's no system application registered for that tile type - Firefox asks the database for a suitable plugin, is told that Adobe Reader is the one to get, and get++ is the download manager which Adobe uses to deliver browser plugins above a certain size.
Assuming you're using the 32-bit version of Firefox (we don't have 64-bit support yet), the XPI package is OK on the server, but can sometimes be mangled by firewall software. You don't need to use it, as installing Adobe Reader "manually" from the Adobe website will add the browser plugins too.
Simply visit http://get.adobe.com/reader/ and click the button.

  • Print Preview is missing from Firefox 6 on Mac OSX Lion in both File Menu and Print Dialog Box

The question says it all really. Print Preview option is missing from both the File menu and from the Print dialog box when you select Print. I use Print Preview a lot to avoid wasting paper.
A relevant issue might be that the Mac OSX app Preview is currently having trouble with various printers including my Xerox and so, temporarily, the default application for all Preview items is now Adobe Reader until Apple get their act together. Perhaps this is affecting things?
    Thanks for any help

It's moved to the PDF dropdown, "Open PDF in Preview"

  • Adobe Reader could not open 'Firefox 4.0-2.dmg' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).

Tried to download Firefox 4 for Macintosh three time and could not prevent Adobe Reader from interfering.

The following document should help: Error: Adobe Reader could not open '*.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and was not correctly decoded.)
Please update this thread if your issue is resolved.
