Adobe reader plugin won't display pdfs in Firefox 17.0.1 on mac

I'm running firefox 17.0.1 and Adobe Reader 11. I have Mac OS X 10.6.8. I had the same problem with Adobe 10.
Any solutions?
Thanks

    Can Adobe Reader on my iPad display PDFs with layers?

    Hi,
    Currently, Acrobat DC mobile products (for iOS and Android) do not support any changes to layer visibility.  So you are not able to turn on or off layers in a PDF document using Acrobat DC for iOS.

  • Adobe Reader X won't open pdfs in IE8

    I've just updated my installation of Adobe Reader X to the latest version, 10.01. Now it won't open web hosted pdfs in Internet Explorer (the previous version did). When I try and open a pdf from a web host I'm told that the file can't be open with the default program (and suggests that the file might be corrupt); I'm only given the option to save the file. Once saved locally on my harddrive Reader X opens the file without complaint.
    Any ideas how to solve this? I'm running Internet Explorer 64bit under Windows 7 Home Pro. 64bit and Internet Explorer 8. An interesting note is that the pdfs do open correctly in IE8 32bit.

    I have exactly the same problem. Running win 7 64 and IE8 64. Everything was working perfect in version 9. I have tried to repair and looking for solutions too.
    Does Adobe Support read this or?

  • Adobe Reader 9.1  Disable Display PDF in browser

    Is there a registry setting I tweek to uncheck the box for Display PDF In Browser?  The only ones I could find grayed out the box but it didn't un check the box.

    I'm just confirming what anhnguyen7902 posted.
    This was tested against Acrobat Reader 9.3.1. I exported all of the registry keys from HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\ with the "Display PDF in browser" setting enabled and disabled. Below are the only relevant differences when changing this setting from within Acrobat Reader.
    With the setting enabled, keys under [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\Originals] are...
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\Originals]
    "bHostBasedCM"=dword:00000001
    "iPSLevel"=dword:00000000
    "sProofingSpace"=hex:55,2e,53,2e,20,57,65,62,20,43,6f,61,74,65,64,20,28,53,57,4f,50,29,20, 76,32,00
    "bDisplayedSplash"=dword:00000001
    With this setting DISABLED, keys under [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\Originals] are...
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\Originals]
    "bHostBasedCM"=dword:00000001
    "iPSLevel"=dword:00000000
    "sProofingSpace"=hex:55,2e,53,2e,20,57,65,62,20,43,6f,61,74,65,64,20,28,53,57,4f,50,29,20, 76,32,00
    "bDisplayedSplash"=dword:00000001
    "bBrowserIntegration"=dword:00000000
    The difference being the bBrowserIntegration key being present and set to dword:00000000 when this option is DISABLED, but the key being completely removed when the setting is ENABLED.
    While writing this post, I decided to test it against Acrobat Reader v4.2.1. The results were the same.
    Hope this helps.

    I want the PDF file's data when it a PDF is opened in IE.
    How can I do this using c#.
    The  COM reference AcroIEHelper.dll is added in  my project.
    ACROIEHELPERLib.AcroIEHlprObjClass acroIEHlpr = new ACROIEHELPERLib.AcroIEHlprObjClass();
    acroIEHlpr  is an Object element. From this how can I retrieve the information of PDF opened in IE.
    How can I get the text of that PDF file?

    hi WDWPhishFan,
    Have you looked at [[The Adobe Flash plugin has crashed]] and [[Opening PDF files within Firefox]]?
    The first article has a lot of good troubleshooting steps that might help. The second article actual lists a couple of plugins that can be used for opening PDF files. I'd give both of them a try just in case.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • Adobe Reader XI won't open PDF Files

    I had Adobe Reader 9 and when I tried to open a PDF file or just the program it would open for a few secopnds and then the window closes.  The program doesn't stay open.  I installed Adobe Reader XI but got the same results.  The program window opens for a few seconds and then closes before the PDF file is open.  What should I do to?

    Go to: C/Program Files/Adobe/Reader 11/Reader
    Look for a file named eula.exe (or just eula)
    Double click it
    Accept the license agreement
    Run Adobe Reader.

  • Firefox Adobe Reader plugin hangs on opening PDFs

    I'm using windows 7, firefox 24.0 and adobe reader 11.0.5.
    Some don't load in the browser (the loading bar at the top simply stops at some point). Downloading the files and loading them in the standalone reader works fine.
    I tried disabling Protected Mode (whatever that is) using the instructions here: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/reader/using/WS4bebcd66a74275c3-7d28390112a81b3ebff-8000.html# WSdd9016941e183011761f79c12ac696b6aa-8000
    But they don't work (only applies to Adobe Reader X apparently).

  • Adobe Reader plugin won't load on Safari for Windows

    I have 3 browsers running on Vista so that I can check website compatibility on all 3. Everything looks fine on Safari except that I cannot download and read PDF files (I can with FF3 and IE7). I realized that the Safari (version 4) on Windows that I have doesn't have the Adobe plugin, but every time I try to install it the system tells me that I already have a better version installed (9.1) and won't let me add the Safari browser to the mix. Any suggestions???

    Safari isn't supported yet. Want support:

  • Adobe Reader XI won't print PDF's in color

    I recently built 4 new PC's for my office.  They all have Windows 7 64 bit, and are all networked to the same Canon Copy machine.  They all print Office documents just fine, in color or black and white as needed.  And all but one of them print PDF's just fine as well.  However, one of the PC's is only printing in black and white, even when we change the settings to color and even when the preview pane shows the document in color.  Gray scale is not checked.  I was able to get documents to print in color, but I had to change the "objectives" setting from "General" to "Publication".  What I'm wondering is, is there a way to change the settings on this computer so that "General" objectives print in color, or so that the default objective is set to "publication" . Please advise.

    Thanks to the previous post by KCoons, I figured out how to fix a similar issue.
    MY SITUATION: I was printing thousands of concert flyers to a fairly modern Ricoh printer, and I noticed that even though the source document was B&W, Adobe was printing the greyscale as dots of color, seriously depleting my color toner. I had to play around with the settings to get Acrobat Pro to print it in true B&W, using only black toner.
    Later on, I discovered Acrobat would not print ANYTHING in color, while other programs had no problem with color.
    THE SOLUTION: This is not exactly the same as the one posted above, which is why I am posting this as a possible alternative for users with a similar problem...
    In the PRINT dialog, click on the ADVANCED button to the right of the printer selection field.
    In the ADVANCED PRINT SETUP dialog, in the selection field just above the print image, click on COLOR MANAGEMENT.
    On the right side, under Color Management, for COLOR HANDLING, select "Printer Color Management."
    This solved the problem for me. Now I can print in color again. And it was indeed an ADOBE setting, not a printer setting.

  • Adobe Reader plugin for Firefox - Firefox 17/18 w Reader X/XI unable to view PDF

    Our customers are having to use IE, which is not an option at some sites or roll Reader back to 9.4.5 to view our product.  This issue started happening on 1/8/13.
    No issues opening the PDFs
    Originally installed on Win7
    IE 8, FF11, Acrobat 9.4.5 – Windows updates turned off since 12/1/12
    Installed IE 9, no issues
    Installed FF 18.0.1 no issues
    Issues opening the PDFs
    Installed Reader XI, - kept Acrobat 9.4.5 installed - Unable to open catalogs in FF.

    You don't say what it is about your "product" that is different from a regular PDF. I assume from the screenshot you are using LCDRM, but that in and of itself will not stop Reader XI from displaying the content.
    Are your Firefox users actually using the Adobe Reader plugin? The latest build of Firefox has its own PDF renderer (which can't load LCDRM-protected files) - you need to specify that you want Reader to be the preferred plugin by changing the Firefox config.

  • Set safari to download pdfs rather than try to use Adobe Reader plugin?

    Some websites try to open a pdf file in Safari using the Adobe Reader plugin.  I don't have this plugin (and don't want to), and I would like Safari to download the pdf rather than trying to use the Adobe Reader plugin.  This option exists in Firefox - is there any way to set Safari to do the same thing?

    On my machine, OPTION-clicking a link, downloads it or the PDF that it points to. Alternatively, load the PDF and then OPTION-click on the URL and hit the enter key. Sorry, but that's all I have to offer.

  • Does Adobe Reader plugin work in Firefox 11 if launched from Gnome?

    Sorry to cross post, but I couldn't figure out how to move my post from the "Adobe Reader" forum to the "Adobe Reader for Unix" forum.
    If I launch Firefox (version 11) from the command line (Linux shell), then I can open a PDF with the Adobe Reader plugin.  But if I launch Firefox from the desktop or panel in Gnome, I get the message "Could not launch Adobe Reader 9.1.0. Please make sure it exists in PATH variable in the environment.  If the problem persists, please reinstall the application."
    acroread is in the PATH variable - I checked ("which acroread" and "echo $PATH")
    We are using acroread 9.3.2.  We tried updating to the latest acroread 9.4.something ...? but the SendMail option was missing from Edit->Preferences, so we reverted to 9.3.2.
    We are using Debian Linux 5.0.8.
    It is very convenient and user-friendly in our library for visitors to be able to view a PDF in the browser (with the plugin) and to be able to just click on the envelope icon from there to send a PDF.
    This was working fine until we upgraded to Adobe Reader 9.4.  We reverted to 9.3.2, and everything was working fine again.  Then our systems people did some things, including updating Mozilla Firefox from version 3.6.13 to version 11.  Then the plugin stopped working from the Gnome launch panel.  I tried running the old Firefox 3.6.13 from the Gnome launch panel, but the plugin no longer works in it, either.
    Has anyone had this problem?
    Sometimes running Firefox from the command line gives some errors.  I tried various versions of nppdf.so and tried toggling the about:config variable "dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.nppdf.so" but nothing changed.

    I have the same or a very similar issue on WIn7 64bit

  • Adobe Reader XI won't launch, can't download or open existing PDF files.

    Running Windows 7 and have had no trouble with PDF files until few weeks ago.  Now Adobe Reader Xi won't execute and I can't download or open existing PDF files using Adobe.  Interesting that I can open existing PDF files unsit PaintShop Pro X4 but not in Adobe.  Have unistalled and reinstalled Adobe Reader XI several times with no change in problem.

    You can try using Windows Explorer to navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement

  • Safari won't display pdf in browser

    Posted before in wrong forum.
    I am really sorry if this has been posted before, but I have been searching the forums and can't find an answer to it. I was also looking for the FAQ article about this that Apple says is an answer, but can't find that either.
    Anyway, using 10.4.11 and Safari 3.0.4. Safari won't display pdfs in the browser. It is gray with the Acrobat logo.
    I remember reading that the solution is to uninstall (delete) Safari and reinstall 3.0.4. However, I cannot find an install for 3.0.4 for Mac, and then do something with Acrobat. I am using 3.0.4 because it was part of a bundled OS update. I can't go back and downgrade my OS...
    What do I do?

    Hi,
    You probably won't have to reinstall Safari. Two things you can try. If you open Adobe Reader and go into the 'Internet' section of its preferences, you should be able to disable the browser plug-in. Some times that alone isn't enough, in which case, browse to HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins/ and move the Adobe plugin out of the folder. Restart Safari for the changes to take effect.

  • Internet Explorer ONLY passes parameters to Adobe Reader plugin for hosted files, not local

    WORKS:
    <embed src="http://host.com/test.pdf#page=5"/>
    FAILS:
    <embed src="test.pdf#page=5"/>
    Both code snippets above work when the HTML file is hosted (IIS / Apache).  My web-app needs to be able to run from a USB memory stick and work with IE9.  The #page param is required for a core feature of the app.
    Parameters after the # are passed correctly to the Adobe Reader plugin in Firefox for offline files, eg: file:///C:/test.htm.  The documentation only describes hosted examples: http://www.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/devnet/acrobat/pdfs/pdf_open_parameters.pdf
    I have tried the <object> route as well with similar results, eg: http://pdfobject.com/
    I have burned over 8 hours looking for a solution. I have tried any logical settings in Adobe Reader X, and with the security zones in IE.  I am not very familiar with IE security zones, but I suspect it could be related to my issue.  I can specify the end-user change any browser or plugin settings as an acceptable solution.

    I am developing a hybrid web-application that needs to work both offline (entire website) and in a hosted environment.  A key part of the product is displaying PDF's with a dynamic index outside of the PDF. This allows us to use PDF's collected from hundreds of contractors, clients and manufacturers and combine them into one searchable product with a consistent interface.  I can specify product requirements including IE browser settings, installed plug-ins etc. I am not trying to cater to a wide audience such as everyone online, but a specific one that is spending $5k-30k for a custom resource.
    I expect the limiation is due to a wide cast net regarding security.  I tried every setting in IE and essentially fully disabling all security options did not resolve it.
    I found a solution, by accessing the ActiveX object directly you can use the exposed classes described here: http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/w whelp.htm?context=Acrobat9_HTMLHelp&file=IAC_API_OLE_Objects.103.167.html
    Javascript:
    var pdfO = document.getElementById('pdfObj');
    pdfO.setCurrentPage(pageNumber);
    HTML:
    <OBJECT id ="pdfObj" data="test.pdf" TYPE="application/pdf">
        <a href="test.pdf">Fall-back code</a>
    </OBJECT>
    This actually works much faster as well, since the plugin doesn't need to be re-drawn in the DOM
