Adobe Reader - prints gibberis

Frequently when I print a pdf document - it will sometimes print what looks like Chinese or just machine language symbols.  I can print the same document if I reload it once it was saved.  Sometimes it will print the first page or so in proper English and then it just starts to useless printout.  Anyone have a clue why and how to fix it.  I have updated to the latest Adobe Reader download.

Hi Vailrider,
I understand the PDF documents aren't printing properly.
I will be happy to help you.
I have provided a URL that you can try to resolve this issue.
My Adobe Acrobat PDF Files Are Printing Garbage Text (Sometimes).
When you go to print the PDF, click on the Advanced button on the print window and check "Print as Image".
Can you print properly from other file formats?
Hope this helps.
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.
Have a wonderful day!

  • Adobe Reader Printing Problem

I have a PC with Windows XP SP3. When I try to print a PDF document, I get the following message: "The document could not be printed. There were no pages selected to print." Of course, I had selected the pages to print.
Recently, I had many problems with Adobe Reader 10, so I removed it and reloaded Adobe 9. Today, when this printing problem appeared, I did a restore on my computer, taking it back a few months. I still have the printing problem.
Any idea what's wrong? Any idea how to fix it?

I have Acrobat Pro 9, but the feature I am using is listed under my
    printers.
If I go to Print, then in the drop-down list of printers, I have PDF -
which essentially creates a new PDF document.  I don't really understand
why it worked, but it did.  The Print - PDF is also available to Word,
    Publisher, etc.
    Hope tis works.

  • Adobe Reader - Print Dialoge box is usable

Yesterday I was running Reader ver. 10.1.3 on a Windows 2008 x64 Terminal Server.  All users Adobe Reader print dialoge boxes now open up very very large.  Any visible font is perhpas 10" tall (see screenshots below).  Drop down pick lists don't display text, and neither does any of the buttons (see screenshots below).  As long as you just want a standard print, you can press enter to activate the defaulted print button.  You can press the ESC key to exit the print dialoge form.  Printing is all being done to Networked printers and I get the same screen no matter what printer is set to be the default printer.
Sometimes (rarely) the print dialoge box will display normal size, and it will display the page your going to print, but as per above, there is no text on the buttons or drop down boxes.  The sample screenshot below took up my entire 1920x1080 screen and is just a small portion of the dialoge box size.  I have to scroll around three screen lengths to get to the other side of the dialoge box. There is no verticle scroll bars, so I can't scroll down to the bootom of the dialoge box.  Nor are there any window resize options (see last screenshot below)
Here is a closeup shot of the top LH side of the Dialoge box:
Below is a screenshot of the top RH corner (I had to scroll three window lengths to get to it):
The Word and Excel etc. Print Dialoge boxes are all working ok.  I have tested different default printers with the Reader Print Dialoge box window and get the same looking screen.
The first thing I tried was to just reboot the Terminal Server (TS).  I was supprised to find that I had the same problem.  I tried upgrading to 10.1.4  and rebooted the TS.  I still have the same problem.  I see that someone else has sort of had a similar issue to mine:  http://forums.adobe.com/message/4559861 But don't really see a response on how or if it was resolved.
Anyone have an idea of whats going wrong and how to fix this?
    Thanks.

As mentioned above, every now and then people will see a normal sized dialoge box.  Here are two examples:

  • Adobe reader printing problems

    Hi all,
I have created a word document, and converted it to .pdf using Cute PDF writer. When I open the document in Adobe reader 7/8 I can see the document fine and clear with all fonts and images as they should be.
The problem is when I try to print the document. When I print from Adobe 8, the font (Gill Sans MT to be specific) doesn't print correctly. Instead of getting a word with one letter after the other, all letters of that word are printing on top of each other if you get me. This can happen anywhere on the page.
However, if I open the document in Adobe reader 7 - the document prints correctly. No problems. I have tried this on a number of machines so I can safely say its not a problem with the install of the software on any of the machines. It just seems to be an incompatibility with the Adobe reader 8 software.
Can anyone tell me why this is happening or how I can get around this on Adobe reader 8?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.
    Mo

a bug most likely. I can only see a couple of options for you. Don't use Reader 8, use a different PDF creator, or try to tweak the settings in in Cute PDF to make it embed and encode the fonts so that Reader 8 can print successfully.

  • Adobe Reader Printing first page miniature - rest fine

    Hi,
Currently running Reader 11.0.07 and am having a printing issue similar to the below known issue in Reader X.
"Xerox printers shrink page content to 1/10 or 1/20 of the original size, and print the content in the upper left part of the paper. This behavior occurs when both of these options are selected in the Print dialog box: Choose Paper Source By PDF Page Size and Use Custom Paper Size When Needed. [2392553]"
Is there any timeline for the issue to be resolved?

    Hi,
Additionally the driver being used is a KM C360 PS 3.6.0.0 and the Postscript pass through mode is enabled.
When testing and disabling the pass through mode of the driver being used (XC, FX, Lemark ....) the first page (also including mixed paper size) is rendered correctly for the entire document output.
Looking at the PS generated output for the KM driver in pass through mode has a difference between the prescript for the first page and any others following:
Example - First page A4 size generates the following.
    %%BeginPageSetup
    /ovlsetup [ 72 600 V 0 0 -72 600 V 12 830 ] def
    /tabsetup [ 72 600 V 0 0 -72 600 V 0 841 ] def

Removing this line "[1 0 0 -1 0 842 ]ct" allows the document to correctly render in the correct orientation but the scale and transform are not specified corectly.

    %%EndPageSetup
Note that the issue is only generated by the printing through a driver in pass through mode. Setting print as image is not an option as the produced spool file is to large.
Additionally, the paper size cannot be resized and must have the (above) option set during printing - any other permutations of the "Size" options during printing cause issues during printing (e.g. A3 -> A4 or mixed A4/3 -> A4).
    Thanks in advance
    Cheers

Oops, I forgot to NOTE: this only happens when I'm printing a pdf from online.  If I'm printing from a saved file from my computer adobe reader works just fine. so it's something with the settings of adobe reader and my browser.  I use chrome, always have and I'm just now experiencing issues these past couple of weeks.  I'm sure it's just a simple little box to check or uncheck or something, so I'm hoping someone can steer me in the right direction.
    Thanks!

  • Adobe Reader printer output not printing with printer

    Hi all,
I've downloaded the current Adobe Reader 9.3 and have not been able to print. It sends the file to my print spooler where I check on it and see that the job is tagged with an error. I've just got the 10.6.3 but this also occurred under 10.6.2 Mac OS. I posted a bug alert to Adobe. My printer is a Canon. I sometimes choose to use Adobe Reader in leu of Preview when filling out a form. Personal choice at this point, but in the past, only Adobe preserved the correct font and all of the form.
Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue.
Not sure if this is a printer driver issue or a output error. But the printer works with everything else.
    Linc

I have a similar problem that my mac mini running 10.6.3 with Adobe Reader 9.3.2. I print using a shared printer HP F2280 from iMac running 10.5.8 wireless airport.
When I print PDF from my mac mini, the share printer can only print a few lines and that stop. There is no error in the printer queue. It say accept print file.
I'm using preview to print PDF right now before solution come out.

  • Adobe Reader prints incorrectly, OSX Preview prints correctly?!

I was wondering if anyone could help us out with some insights into a problem which occurred recently when printing some large, combined PDFs, some of which ran to several hundreds of pages in length.
The PDFs were combined from three main sources:
PDFs we’d produced ourselves from InDesign 5.5 to “Pass4Press” / PDF 1.4 specifications.
PDFs saved from Microsoft Word 2010 using the “Save as PDF” command.
PDFs supplied by the client - I suspect these were produced either from Microsoft Word or via the “Save as PDF” command on a printer/scanner.
We used an up-to-date postscript driver and printed to something like a Canon 7100 printer using Adobe/Acrobat Reader. The stuff we printed from InDesign was fine (as I expected it to be, this is the spec I send my PDFs to commercial printers with and I’ve never had a problem with it). Sometimes the text from the Word-generated ones would print as a series of boxes and other times the same file would print correctly with no problems (the font used was either Arial or Arial Narrow), whilst the ones from the client would always print incorrectly in places as a series of symbols. I don’t know what font they used (or how it was embedded) but it looked like Arial and the files came from France (we were printing in England) so maybe their font glyphs are different?
Opening up a couple of the files in Illustrator revealed no problems with the font. We could print from Adobe Reader using a slower, rasterized driver (which was sooooooo slow we would have missed the deadline) but the funny thing was if we opened the same files using Mac OSX 10.6’s “Preview” programme and printed via the wickedly-fast postscript driver, everything came out perfectly!
I know that I haven’t provided much in the way of specific, detailed information but would anyone have a general idea of what was going on? I suspect that it was something to do with the fonts not being embedded properly and Preview being more tolerant of this issue than Reader? That said, Adobe Reader is meant to be the blue-ribband application for PDF viewing and printing so presumably it should be more versatile than a scaled-down imitation product which comes free with every Mac? Would anyone be able to suggest a way of heading this off at the pass in the future? Please bear in mind that some of the files were supplied to us by our client, an engineering firm who would see supplying correctly-formatted PDFs as a non-issue, they just hand over whatever comes out of the machine, so ensuring that the PDFs have been encoded correctly at source is not really an option that’s open to us in this case.
As always, thanks in advance for any and all advice offered.

Just as a further note to this, something along similar lines has just happened.
A work collegue printed the PDF located at:
    http://marketforce.eu.com/Conferences/nuclearnewbuild12/Brochure/
The text printed largely as a series of "y"s and full stops (periods). I printed the same file to a different machine (same make and model) from both Preview on the Mac and Reader 8 on a Windows XP PC and the result was perfect both times!
Would anyone have any general tips on how to troubleshoot PDFs so we can spot in advance if things like this might happen and also can anyone shed any light on if these kind of problems can sometimes be caused by a printer and/or its driver rather than the PDF itself? I looked at the Preflight options in Acrobat for the first time ever this morning and the range of options contained within seemed a little overwhelming for a newcomer.
    Cheers,
    NA

  • Why doesn't adobe reader print

Adobe Reader has stopped printing for me. I don't recall when the problem started, but until recently I could print easily. Now, every time I try to print any PDF file (old or new, including files I've printed before), I get his message: "The document could not be printed," followed by "There were no pages selected to print." That latter statement is always untrue. I should add that I have no trouble printing from other programs.
Today, I uninstalled Adobe Reader 11.0.08 and downloaded the program afresh. No difference when I tried to printed.
What can I do to restore the print function?

It took me a while to find how to disable the protected mode in Security
(Enhanced), but after doing that, I managed to get Adobe Reader to
print! Thanks very much--both for your good advice and for your prompt
    response.

  • Why won't adobe reader print a .pdf?

I have worked on this Mac at my job for 3 years. Much of my job is online research, and I frequently print .pdf documents, or "Open .pdf In Preview" and select pages to print.
About 2 weeks ago I found that .pdfs would no longer print or Open In Preview.  I can still Select the content and copy it to a Word doc and repair the formatting for printing.
But I would really like to just print the .pdf.
How to find out what's wrong?  How to fix it?
I have already re-installed Adobe Reader and downloaded the latest version.
    Thank you for any help.
    Shayne

    Hi Shayne Laughter,
Adobe Reader is for reliably viewing, printing, and annotating PDF documents. It’s the only PDF file viewer that can open and interact with all types of PDF content, including forms and multimedia, hence we cannot print documents to PDF using this.
Also, Preview is a default application in Mac used to view and edit images and PDFs. If you are not able to print documents to PDF then the issue is with Preview and I would suggest you to check with Apple.

  • Adobe reader prints in low resolution

    Hello Adobe Forum,
I'm having a problem with one of the users here at the company I work at. He creates a picture using indesign and exports it to PDF and via Adobe Acrobat edits it into something he can edit however when he prints it the resolution is lower then whenever he prints something via indesign. why is that ?
    Printer brand: SATO
    Printer model: CL412e
So far we've checked everything in the printing preferences because we believed that there would be a setting that allowed you to specify in what resolution you can print. With low resolution I mean is that when I print via Adobe Reader there's pixels around the edges of the pictures [Anti-aliasing] but when printed via indesign, there are less and almost not noticable.
    Please help me,
What should I do to make sure that whenever the user prints something via Adobe it doesn't come out as a low-resolution print.
    Thanks,
    Wouter Spaan.

    Hello ~graffiti and Wouter,
I'm the one with the printing  problem, the preset I use is the High Quality print preset and I have  tried some other options such as the Standard and Compatibility options.  The quality onscreen in the pdf is of high quality and since the  printer only prints type labels I don't get why it would suffer a loss  in quality. Also everything is in vector so that makes it even more odd.
The problem could be in the export options from Indesign but what specific setting could it be?
I have tried turning almost every setting off and on, turning compression settings off and turning the text into objects.
I  have also tried different settings within acrobat and changed the  resolution under preferences, even with 1200 pixels/inch it makes no difference.
There is no  difference in quality between printing from Indesign and Adobe Reader  when printing on a normal printer with normal paper aswell.
So any idea about specific settings I'm missing or what else might be wrong?

  • Adobe Reader Print Window not legible

Adobe Reader (free) works just fine until I want to print a document. For some years now, whenever I want to print the print window comes up looking like this:
It has occurred to me that my custom color scheme may have something to do with this (but note the "8.5 x 11 Inches" text that does appear) so I have tried changing the Window Theme to Windows Classic. Doing that results in the print window looking like this:
Notice the vertical scrollbar on the right ... scrolling shows more of the print window, which has the same attributes as what we see here.
When using my normal (custom) color scheme with my personal Theme, sometimes the print window comes up looking like the 1st picture, sometimes like the second. I have not discerned any pattern or reason why it shows one way one time and the other way another time.
When either version of the print window comes up, pressing the Enter key always prints the document correctly. Similarly, If, in the first picture, if I click the left-hand button of the pair at the lower right of the window it also prints. When it comes up looking like the second picture, I have never been to find the "Print" button and have to use the Enter key. Again, however I start the printing, the document prints as it should.
This has been going on since sometime back when I was using Windows XP (before Windows 7 came out) and has continued now that I am using Windows 7. I always keep the O/S up to date with both the Service Packs and the Windows Updates. Likewise I keep the Reader up to date and installed the latest update just before taking these screenshots. I have 27" HP 2711 monitor @ its native resolution of 1920x1080.
If anyone has any ideas on how to make the print window readable, I would appreciate it. This has been an annoyance for much too long.

I had the Segoe UI Light, UI Semibold, and UI Symbol fonts installed, and 6 other Segoe fonts available, but not installed. I installed Seguo UI (only) and brought up a PDF document and tried to print ... voilà! ...
It's perfect. The picture here is a little fuzzy here due to the size reduction, but in real life, it's just the way it should be.
    Thank you very much!
