Adobe Reader / Pro XI bug with PDF as embedded object in Microsoft Excel

We are using Adobe Reader and Adobe Pro version 11.0.06, Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit, with a mixture of MS Office 2010 and 2013.
We have been able to reproduce a bug using Reader/Pro together with Excel, where Reader/Pro freezes when we preform the following tasks.
Open an Excel file where a PDF file is attached as an object in the spreadsheet
Double click and open the PDF file attached, PDF is opened in Adobe Reader/Pro
From Adobe Reader/Pro, click on the document on the Page Thumbnails, scroll the document up and down for a few times
Close the Adobe Reader/Pro, it freezes and the adobe process is starting to consume the system memory
This problem is happening on multiple machines with Adobe Reader/Pro 11.0.06 installed, regardless of the Office version and is reproducible. We did not see such issue on Adobe X.
Is there anyone reported the same?

Hello,
I know this problem was reported many months ago, but I am also experiencing this exact same issue, and have found no resolution to it yet. My user has a simple PDF embedded into an Excel 2010 document. Double click the PDF and it opens properly in Acrobat. If I close Acrobat, Excel freezes in the background (not responding). I have to force quit Excel to get back to Excel.
Also, if I double click on Acrobat again to re-open the application, it won't open. If I check Task Manager after Excel crashes, I can see that Acrobat.exe is still running in memory, and I have to force-quit it before I can re-open Acorbat.
Any progress on this issue?

  • Problem with virtualized Adobe Reader Pro!!!

We have Virtualized Adobe Reader Pro 10.0  with MS application Virtualized 5.0.  Users are facing issue to open write-protected pdf with the virtualized adobe while they can open normal pdf with the same virtualized adobe. Any hints that we might consider for this issue – in the way what happens in the back-end when a write-protected document is opened? Also does Adobe has any policy when it comes to virtualisation?

Adobe Reader 11.0.1 and later are the only supported versions of Adobe Reader that are currently supported.

Hi. I use Adobe Acrobat XI pro to make a PDF ebook embedded with audio. It works really well on my computer-I can read the book and hear the auto play mp3. The problem is, when I send it to my customers, they have difficulty hearing the audio. A few of them say they have Flash player on their PC and somehow they still can't hear, some say their Google Chrome browser tells them they've already got one flash player while they try to download one. For me, I had to download two versions of Flash player to be able to access to the audio. I don't know what the problem is, is it because it's the latest version of Adobe Acrobat XI pro that people with older version of Adobe reader or flash player can't open it properly? Or is it something else? How can I make sure every customer with different system can access to my books? Hope to hear from you ASAP! Thank you very much.

And how are the customers accessing the PDFs?
    What devices are they using?
What program or apps with versions are they using?
I this age of other then PDF eBooks formats and reader program and apss for computers and mobile devices for these formats I would look at creating the books in one or more of the eBook formats.
Google Chrome and FireFox both have their own version of a PDF reader plug-in and they are well known to be less capable than Adobe Reader. It is possible to configure these products to use Adobe Reader.

  • Edit pdf with Adobe Reader Pro XI?

How do I edit a PDF file with Adobe Reader Pro XI?

"How" very much depends on what exactly you want to achieve.  Basically you open it in Acrobat, then use the tools to edit it.  You may need to perform text recognition (OCR) if the document is a scanned image.
If you need details how to do certain edits, you better ask in the Acrobat forum (Creating, Editing & Exporting PDFs).

Can Adobe Reader on my iPad display PDFs with layers?

    Hi,
Currently, Acrobat DC mobile products (for iOS and Android) do not support any changes to layer visibility.  So you are not able to turn on or off layers in a PDF document using Acrobat DC for iOS.
Would you file a feature request?

There is no such thing. Check to see what you downloaded then get back to us for advice.

  • Why Adobe Reader XI cannot open a pdf file that can be opened with Reader 9?

Why Adobe Reader XI cannot open a pdf file within a browser that can be opened with Reader 9?

    Hi Steve,
Sorry, I cannot post a URL to the file because it is for intenal use only.
I noticed that the pdf file can be opened outside of IE browser if I disable the Adobe Reader add-on (active-X) in IE browser. If I enable the Reader add-on, the Reader cannot complete the file download. The progress bar goes in a half way, and stays there.
Just FYI, the pdf file was created by Distiller 7. Do you think it is the issue of Reader add-on? Thanks.

  • Adobe Reader could not open 'filename.pdf'" because it is either not a supported file type...

I have a website that holds 23 different PDF's. They all download fine and open correctly when downloading from a Mac computer. They even download and open fine from a Mobile Phone. However my client is getting an error over and over again. I have tested it out and this is what I have come up with.
    Error:
Adobe Reader could not open 'filename.pdf'" because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been corrupted (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)
I have resaved the PDF's to be compatible with Reader 6.
    Works fine with
All Mac's using either Firefox, Chrome or Safari using Pro and Reader
    iPhone downloads using iBook
PC's when downloading from Firefox viewing in Reader 9
PC's when downloading from IE 6.0 view on Reader 8
    Error Message When
PC when downloading from IE 7 viewing on Reeder 9
PC when downloading from IE 8 viewing on Reader 9
Here goes the URL when the files resides.
Please help. I can not find a solution.

  • Native Mac alternative to Adobe Reader Pro

    Hello people,
I'm looking after an alternative to Adobe Acrobat Reader Pro, through which i can create custom forms with fixed text and text fields (that not only can accept text input but in some cases show possible options from drop down menus) kinda like a smart PDF form.
I don't like using Adobe products at all and pretty much have a grudge on Adobe. The alternative doesn't really even need PDF support but if it can export to PDF that might be a plus. I use PDFPen Pro but that doesn't do what i explained above.
Was also looking at Filemaker (yes i know it's a DB app) in a possible conjunction with PDF Manipulator plugin but i don't think that will help me do what i need to accomplish. The end goal would be to create a dozen PDF, or whatever format, forms that can simplify the work in my small business, since we do work with a lot of repetitive documents that need change only in some small parts.
Do you guys have any idea?
    Thanks

There's no such thing as Adobe Reader Pro. There is Adobe Acrobat, which creates PDFs and Adobe Reader which reads PDFs. Finding an alternative to Acrobat might be difficult in that Adobe owns the PDF format. PDFPen is the only one I've heard of, but I'm not really in the market for that software.
If you are looking for another format to use in-house, that may be possible, but I don't know of any.
I have worked in the Air Force for over 20 years. In that time I've seen them go through various iterations of Form creation and filling software. Every time I've had to ask myself, "why don't we just use Acrobat?" I don't know if it is a licensing thing, but we license all of Microsoft, so I'm not sure that's the answer.
An in-house database solution would likely work for the small number of forms you need. So would Mail Merge in Word. You can create fill-in forms in Word, also. It will do dropdown menu selections, check boxes, etc.

  • Creating Hyperlink in Adobe Reader Pro 9

I am trying to create a Hyperlink within a pdf with Adobe Reader Pro 9.  The way I understand it is that you are suppose to highlight the text to be used as the hyperlink and use the tool function that looks like two chain links together.  The problem is that that tool is greyed out so that I cannot use it.  I have opened multiple documents and they are all like this.  Can anyone tell me what the issue is?

First, we need to know what product you actually have. There is no Adobe Reader Pro 9. There is Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat Pro. Reader cannot create links or edit PDF files. Acrobat can.

  • Scam email: Adobe-Reader-Pro

A variation on an old scam was received this morning by the company that I work for.  At first glance it looks genuine by its simplicity but has anyone ever heard of Adobe Reader Pro?  There is the official looking logo and even an address in California but simple checks can confirm the scam. I am told that clicking on the links will result in a bunch of malware being installed into your computer.  Below is the text from the message received this morning:
ADOBE PDF READER  SOFTWARE UPGRADE NOTIFICATION

  • Adobe Reader could not open a pdf file - either not supported file type or file damaged

On March 5th, I started getting the Adobe Reader error message "Adobe Reader could not open a pdf file because it is either not supported file type or the file has been damaged.
I get this when I try to open the pdf file as an attachment in Outlook 2013 from my G-Mail account.  If I save the attachment and then try to open the pdf document, I get the same error4.
I get this error message with every pdf file that now comes to me in Outlook.
If I log on to my G-Mail I am able to open the pdf document.  If I also save the attachment to my computer, I do not get the error message when I open the pdf file. This would suggest the file is okay
This would lead me to believe the problem maybe with Outlook.
I'm using Adobe Reader XI v11.0.10
    I'm using Windows 8.1
Is anyone encountering this same issue with outlook?

I copied it again.  Do you see it?  BTW, how do I set privacy?  (I'm new at this)

  • Adobe Reader X Problem signing online PDF

This issue has started a couple of weeks ago. Users are running Windows 7 and Adobe Reader X.  When accessing a PDF online users are unable
to digitally sign with certificates. When trying to sign it asks them to save the document. If they save the document then it will allow them to sign, However
they are no longer working with an online document, but rather the one they saved on their desktop. They need to be able to sign on line because the form
needs to be submitted on line.
I have already checked the preferences for internet and it is selected to open pdf in a browser. When going to the security configuration the certificates from the CAC card are available and selected as sign with.
Anyone have any ideas? Our support for this issue is on another network and they are not having this issue so they are blowing us off.

I'm having the same exact issue in windows 7 w/ adobe reader X. If I save it to the desktop
it opens fine. I've edited the registery as well as uninstalled reinstalled. and Disabled protection at startu
p with no success. What can we do Adobe to fix this. The product is completley updated and it is a brand new pc
