Adobe Reader Search function fails

@@I'm using Adobe Reader Version 11.0.10 under Windows 7 64-Bit SP1 with all actual updates. When i try to search any word or Phrase of contained in the text of a specific PDF File, then the search Fails. It does not come up with the search item i have keyed in. I did not misspell the search item and it is definitely contained in the text, but the search function does not find it. i am absolutely surethat the search item is in text Format and it is contained in the PDF file, because i can Access and search it when i open this PDF file on an iPad for instance. there it works, but not in my Windows envioenment.
I guess that this problem will not be completely new for you, because other users are discussing this Problem in the Internet as well.
Can you help me with an answer and hopefully with a recommendation on how to overcome this Problem.
thanks in advance and
Kind regards
Guenther
p.s.:
sorry, i am new on thjis platform... how  when aproximatrely does one get an answer here?

Hello Pat,
i followed your advise and have used the link contained in point 3 of
your recommendations --- for reference see your response as appended
below (https://cloud.acrobat.com/).
So, in case i made no mistake (?), then you can access the PDF file we
are talking about when you follow this link here:
https://files.acrobat.com/a/preview/0f9d2ce4-b4b9-4223-8fd2-723441d7d2ab***
This PDF file contains a description of an olympus camera. When you open
this PDF file please go to page 6.
Directly under the picture on top of the page (which shows a dark blue
car driving from left to right) you can read the word "Mitziehmodus"
(without parantheses). This german word is one of those search items
which the PDF search function of my PDF reader installation does not
find. There are many other words the search function does not find as
well, but let us use this word (Mitziehmodus) as an example to
demonstrate the malfunction as i experience it on my pc.
Meanwhile i have installed a completely new windows-system 7 from
scratch. The PDF reader (11.0.10) is currently the only installed
software. I made this windows 7 installation only to assure that there
is no other software eventually influencing the search function. But the
search function fails again when searching for this word "Mitziehmodus".
One remark still to your statements concerning accented characters.
Character like ä, ö, ü or ß are quite normal characters in writing
german language text. But these characters can not be found also! In
general it does not make much sense to serach for a single character (at
least in my understanding). Searching for ä or ö or ü results in finding
something completely meaningless. But this behaviour shows additionally
that there is something wrong with the search function as it ist
implemented in Adobe Reader.
In general i am convinced that this PDF file will be correct ,
because i can search any search item and find correct search results
when i access this file on my iPad regardless in what so ever combination.
i hope that you can access the problem PDF file following the link i
sent you above.
And i would be happy wehen you could find thze reason for my search
problems.
thank you so far. i appreciate to heare from you soon.
kind regards
Günther

I'm afraid that you've posted your  question in the wrong forum. This  one is for the now-retired desktop  application for Acrobat.com, not  Adobe Reader.

  • Adobe reader 11 installation fails. error message: there was an error installing adobe reader. adobe

Adobe reader 11 installation fails. error message: there was an error installing adobe reader. adobe reader installation error. null. tried using adobe cleaning  tool. using XP sp3. seems that adobe 11 is not completely uninstalling. this is because when adobe reader  11 is removed  from add/remove program. when pc is rebooted, adobe reader 11 entry comes back but it is  like false entry as no size given. please help to succesfully install Adobe Reader 11.  also tried:
    1. uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled  2. installed from different locations  3. removed adobe key from
local machine and tried to install

Seriously, I do not understand what is going on - I have never seen this before!
The MSI installers are usually used in corporate environments to roll out installs on multiple machines.  However, you can use it like a normal (EXE) installer; it will just go through fewer steps than the EXE.  Not sure if it will improve the situation, but it's worth a try.
Another thing to try is to uninstall these remaining entries using Microsoft Fixit: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall - also no guarantee, but also worth trying.

  • Adobe Reader 9 plugin fails to load on RedHat Linux OS

I built a plugin using Acrobat SDK 9 for Adobe reader 9.5 on Redhat Linux OS. I am able to successfully build and reader enable the plugin.
But when I start Adobe Reader 9, the plugin fails to load with error "Undefined Symbol: RestorePlugInFrame".
As I understand, on Linux platform with C++ enabled, the RestorePlugInFrame function should not be required.
Is there any other flag I need to set while building the plugin?
Appreciate any suggestions in resolving this issue. Thank you.

Yes. Adobe support told me that the license key I used to build Adobe 8 plugin on Linux should work for Adobe 9 plugin too. Using SignPlugin tool and the license key I was able to successfully reader enable the plugin.

  • Adobe Reader XI Update failed.  How to fix?

When my windows 7 64 bit computer was updated to adobe reader XI, the update function began to continually fail.  I am getting the following "Adobe Reader Updater" message:
"Update Failed  An error occured.  Please check for updates again later.  Error: 111500"
This message annoyingly pops up when adobe attempts to check for updates automatically.  I also get this message anytime I manually check for updates.  I have tried to "check for updates later" a million times with no luck.  I have also uninstalled and reinstalled Reader a million times.  I have also uninstalled, utilized the adobe reader removal tool for removal of older versions, and reinstalled a million times.  I have also tried reinstalling the older versions.  Still, whether i am using version XI or an older version of Reader, I always get the above message when I request an update.  Please Help!

This error means that Updater could not create download  folder under C:\Users\All Users\Adobe\ARM
Most likely you have special\corrupted permissions at C:\Users\All Users level
Or some sort of Antivirus type program keeps this folder locked.
    You have 2 choices
    1. Fix permissions\locking issue
    2. Download Updates manually and install them every time they are released - http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/release-note/release-notes-acrobat-reader.html
If you choose later, you can disable Updater automatic modes from Edit\Preferences\Updater menu.
    Good luck

  • Adobe Reader 11 MUI failing to install using transform and patch 11.0.10 via cmd/SCCM in one package

    Hello,
I have all the files, MST and the patch located in one folder. I am trying to use the following MSI command lines locally on my computer before I can attempt to deploy this via SCCM 2012. I am having issues either with the package not compatible or using /p and getting the MSIEXEC help window prompt. I've tried a few command lines:
    msiexec /i AcroRead.msi PATCH="AdbeRdrUpd11010_MUI.msp" TRANSFORMS="AcroRead.mst"
    msiexec /i AcroRead.msi /p AdbeRdrUpd11010_MUI.msp TRANSFORMS="AcroRead.mst"
    msiexec /i AcroRead.msi TRANSFORMS="AcroRead.mst" /p AdbeRdrUpd11010_MUI.msp
Adding /qn on the end makes the install work silently when not attempting to include the patch, but fails to install it silently when only using the transform file that I have selected in the wizard to silently install.
We have 5 different versions from 8.0 through 10.0 in our environment of 3000 machines. Sadly this was not managed before...I can easily update our current 11.0 versions that range from 11 to 11.0.09 by only applying the patch to them but need to get the full install working for the 2500 machines I need to target.
I tried using the /a command which seems to work, but creates program files and common files folders inside my adobe folder on the desktop when executing it from the cmd. Am i suppose to package that folder all in one and then use the /i command to install adobe? I've been researching for a week but finally hit a wall where I dont think I am getting anywhere.
    Thank you in advance,
    Kevin

I have almost answered my own question as I just came across this link
    https://it-god.co.uk/deploy-adobe-reader-xi-11-0-10-with-sccm-2012/
This is for the plain reader version, but we use MUI now (due to other languages required in our environmet). I get to the part where it asks to apply the patch to the AIP folder but it fails.
    msiexec /p AdbeRdrUpd11010.msp /a C:\Reader\11.0.10\AcroRead.msi
I changed this to account for the MUI naming,
    msiexec /p AdbeRdrUpd11010_MUI.msp /a C:\Reader\11.0.10\AcroRead.msi
But I get the windows prompt that says this package can not be opened, please verify. I ensured that both the patch and base install were MUI versions, and i downloaded fresh copies of each. I also unblocked the patch so that it can run. No luck so far.
EDIT: Using another guide i found the command line (modified the path to my location) and this worked,
    msiexec /a C:\adobe\Reader\11.0.10\AcroRead.msi /qb /p AdbeRdrUpd11010_MUI.msp TARGETDIR=C:\adobe\Reader\11.0.10\

  • Adobe Reader 9.1 fails to print to Sharp AR-BC320

    Dear Adobe Support:
The current version of Adobe Reader 9.1 for Macintosh fails to print to our Sharp AR-BC320 but your previous version 9.0 printed without any problem. I'd appreciate knowing how I can download a copy of the older 9.0 version so that I can install it after removing the 9.1 version.
This is a problem that we've encounter since Adobe Reader 7.1. The only versions of Adobe Reader that have worked reliably with the Sharp AR-BC320 were versions 7.0 (and below) plus version 9.0.
We're running the current version of the driver for this Sharp printer so any help that you can offer to resolve this problem would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

  • Adobe Reader Search problem

Since Adobe Reader 9 we have a problem with the "find" (search the content of pdf files). Sometimes it works fine and sometimes the search result highlights incorrect words.
We use now Adobe Reader 9.1.2 but had the same problem on 9.1.0. It seems that the count of results is correct, but not the highlightet word. The files have the PDF-version 1.4.
Do anyone know the problem or have an idea whats wrong?

The Problem was not Adobe Reader!
We use ScanSoft PDF Create! to create the PDF files directly from Word 2007. In the tool settings we activated now the option "Optimize for Web Viewing". Now it works correctly with every testet document.
But it still strange, that we didn't had the Problem with Adobe Reader 8.
    Many thanks for your support.

  • Adobe Reader searches PDF incorrectly Foxit does it correctly

There is an "answered" thread on this subject.
I find that Adobe Reader is hit or miss on searches. I am looking up court cases which
are presented to me in PDF format by filetype:PDF.
I know a tern is in the PDF because that is how Google selected it. Adobe reader won't always find the term. Sometimes it finds an entirely different word that what I enter in the search box.
This is not a problem with the way that the PDF was created because Foxit Reader finds the terms.
    What is going on?

    Hey Grethe,
Please use the ' Fix It '  tool for your specific Windows version using this link : When you run an .exe file on a Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7-based computer, the file may start a different pro…
Once done restart your computer. Let me know if the issue persist.

  • Starting Adobe Reader with ShellExecute fails

    Hi,
When I try and run open a PDF with shell execute and Adobe Reader being the default application, the PDF opens an Adobe Reader and then Reader crashes about five seconds afterwards with a Visual C++ error. I'm trying this in a 64bit Windows 7 enviroment.
From checking process monitor, it looks like Adobe reader is trying to access the systemprofile directories which is being denied. If I give everyone permissions to these folders it works again.
Open the PDF from explorer works fine.
Any help, clues or hints anyone?
    thanks a lot!
    Andy.

    Hey,
I think I've found the root cause and can't easily test the broken code anymore.
I did try running it it compatibility mode originally though and it did solve the problem. It also said that protected mode was disabled when I was running the app in compatibility mode, so I asume that turning off protected mode would also be a work around.
The cause I think was that when using shell execute, the users enviromental variables were not being loaded by Adobe Reader. This is confirmed by checking the Adobe Reader process with process monitor. I could see that Reader was looking in SystemProfile folders to read and write, which of course is not right and quite rightly being denied. I think it was these denials that causes the crash.
My solution is to load the users enviromental block and using StartProcessAsUser instead. This means that Reader gets the right enviroment and starts to look in the users APPDATA folder rather than system profile.
    Any comments may be interesting!
    Ta,
    Andy.

  • Adobe Reader XI deployment failing with error code 35

We are perfroming an enterprise deployment of Adobe Reader XI via System Center 2012 onto Win 7 machines. Our first pilot of 100 users was nearly flawless. Our second pilot of the same size had a roughly 30% failure rate with the error code 0x23 (35). Does anyone know what this error code means?

I'm going to assume no one has seen this before?
