Adobe Reader Security Settings menu item missing

On a user PC, under Adobe Reader XI (11.0.2), I am not finding the Security Setting Menu option. I searched for this, and I found out that it must be under "Edit/Protection".
See snapshot below:
Any idea ?

Also, I found another issue.
After I managed to create the Signature using Windows Certificate Option, I tried to take a backup from the certificate store from Internet Options -> Content -> Certificate -> Export, then I am unable to export the Private Key. Only the public key option is available, and the other option "Yes, export the Private key" is dimmed or disabled.
Is this also new feature of Adobe Reader XI?
I am 100% sure that in other installations on another PC, after I create the Windows Certificate of the Digital Signature from Adobe Reader Security Settings, then I can take a backup of this certificate from Internet Options and I can select this option "Yes, export the Private key" during export of the certificate.
Appreciate your feedback on this matter.

Portal internal workflow - don't have Workflow Settings menu item

Hi All,
I am a new to webcenter portal and got a problem when trying to configure internal workflow.
According to the oracle document, "http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E29542_01/doc.1111/e27603/cont_workflow.htm#WCPAA11225"
it should have an "Workflow Settings" menu item in the folder details page.
But my webcenter portal don't have it.

"Settings" menu item disabled - why????

i have a flash app which does audio recording via our fms server at influxis.com. so i do the usual stuff like try and open a microphone etc. when the app first loads it tries to find a mic, but the microphone library says the mic is muted. also, when i right-click on the app, the "Settings..." menu item is disabled. why? normally the user could select a mic to use via this dialog box. the only way to get it working is to open up another app that does video recording, right-click, select "Settings" (not disabled for this app!) then set the microphone settings.
my big question is why the "settings" menu item is disabled for my app???

it's amazing, this issue has been hounding me for weeks, i have trawled the net to no avail, and yesterday afternoon, a few hours after posting, i came across a blog somewhere that posited this solution - i fired up flash, bumped up the height of my app, and hey presto! it worked! and this is exactly what you have found out too!
a bit obscure, but at least i know now what is going on!
thanks for asking around and finding out, and best of all i now know the exact minimum dimensions!
do you think this fact should be put somewhere in the as3 online doco? i reckon mention of it on a few pages like Microphone and Video classes could be very useful....

Adobe Reader security update to 9.3.1 not working.

I have updated adobe reader to 9.3.1 but in Secunia PSI it's still being reported as insecure.
I uninstalled adobe reader completely, cleared all traces from the registry, and reinstalled 9.3.0, and let it check for updates. it said there weren't any.
I downloaded the security fix to update it to 9.3.1 and installed it successfully.
Adobe reader now says it's 9.3.1 in the Help About option on the help menu.
However the Reader exe file AcroRd32.exe version is still 9.3.0.148 dated 21/12/2009, as are all the plugin files except for the Forms plugin that is version 9.3.1.203 dated 02/02/2010.
I have since done a successful repair install of Adobe Reader, but PSI is still saying it's insecure because of the file version 9.3.0.148 for AcroRd32.exe, and the plugin files except the Forms plugin,
Why isn't the security update to 9.3.1 updating the exe file and plugins? Is it even working at all and fixing the critical security risks it's supposed to be fixing? It would seem all it's doing is to change the Help/About screen to read 9.3.1, and changing the Forms plugin...
Running on WIndows 7 home premium.

I have same problem using Windows Vista Home Premium. Just ran Secunia and went to link and downloaded and installed 9.3.1.203, but, AcroRd31.exe still shows ver 9.3.0.148 in the Acrobe Reader files on my computer??? I do not think that the problem is solved. Apparently the update is not working correctly.

Why can't I open pdf documents after using Adobe Reader security?

I have been able to open pdfs perfectly well up until I changed the security settings on Adobe Reader. As I read somewhere that Apples have an inbuilt pdf reader I trashed everything Adobe, but still can't open pdfs. Tried using Preview to no avail.
Is there some other way of opening pdfs without reinstalling Adobe?

You didn't think of mentioning that in your first post? So it's not Adobe Reader or Preview you are having problems with. It's pdf's in your browser!
For Safari, you need to remove the adobe pdf plugins which Adobe apparently screwed up. You need to remove:
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/AdobePDFViewer.plugin
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin
I think you can "get away with" removing just the second one. But both for sure should allow you to open pdf's in a browser (all browsers).

Adobe Reader Default settings

Hi people
I am having issues with opening up vector art work from a PDF file. I have a PDF catalog
with images that I am suppose to open up in PDF format, Click on the image and
automatic open up Illustrator. How do I default to open Illustrator in PDF software.
I did try changing the file "info" on the file an change the settings there but it won't allow
me to change it since I don't have permission. Any other ideas anyone has.
I have brand new Mac Pro G5 with Snow LEP and trying to make things work and
my last computer I had Tiger still installed. Worked like a champ in tiger but not working
for me on Snow LEP.

If Reader is asking for a password, it's because you are opening a secure document. If the OS is asking for a password, it's hard to say. You'll want to take that up with the Apple forums.
If the exact same PDF was opening before without asking for a password, it was more than likely because you were using Mac Preview to open the file. Adobe security isn't necesarily honored by non-Adobe applications.

Reader 3? Really? What kind of machine are you running that on? Certainly not the one you are using now. Reader 3 is ancient.

How do I change security settings on items in Startup items folder in Library

I just installed pro tools TEN on my Mac OS X 10.6.8 -When I log in I get a pop up message that says items in the startup items folder in library won't open because of incorrect security settings. Now it has given me separate pop up windows saying that those items have been disabled.
So my question is: How do I "Fix" the security settings on the startup items folder so that these items are not disabled. I don't need them to automatically open every time I log in, but they are obviously part of Pro Tools, and I need them so that Pro Tools performance is not affected. The items are:
DigiDesign Loader
Pace Support
How do I Fix it so that they are not disabled, but that they only open when they need to open, and don't affect pro tools performance?

It could be that it Reader-enabled. Try: File > Save a Copy
If that's not it, post exactly what it shows for: File > Properties > Security > File Restrictions Summary

'Upgrade Photoshop Elements catalog' menu item missing

Hi,
I have been using PSE for many years and recently upgraded to PSE8 (and PRE8). In addition, I started playing with the LR3 Beta and realized that I wanted to migrate LR from PSE. I just bought LR3 and now want to import my PSE8 catalog into LR3. The Lightroom Help tells me that I should go to File - Upgrade Photoshop Elements Catalog (while in Library module), but this menu item is not showing up in my Lightroom... Is my LR3 not detecting my PSE8 catalog installation? How can I fix this?
Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated!

Open Adobe Reader without Tools menu or Fill & Sign menu

When I open a PDF file, I often get a menu down the right side of the Adobe Reader window. Usually, it is the Tools menu; but if the PDF file is a fill-in form, I get the Fill & Sign Tools menu. Rarely do I need these menus. Is there an option to launch Adobe Reader without these menus?

We ended up finding a registry key which forces this menu to come up each time:

“bBrowserDisplayInReadMode”=dword:00000000

Adobe Reader 11 add-on is missing into IE8

I have installed A. Reader 11, A. Reader 11.0.04.and after that A.Reader 11.0.05.
I have Win XP and IE8
I want to able Adobe Reader Add-on but it is not listed into Manage Add-ons, in "Adobe Systems Incorporated" I just have "Shockwave Flash Object".
How can I get it? or How can I install this A.Reader Add-on.

Yes, that data is missing, but is "all add-ons"
Note:
If I extract the A.Reader 11.00.EXE and I install the msi and msp... never the Add-on is installed into IE8, but if I use the EXE complete I got the Add-on...
now... these test were into my pc.... afew minutes I installed the main EXE in other computer... and the add-on was not able..
I don´t know what happen... or if exist some switch into the msi or directly into the EXE that I can activate the Add-on in silent mode
Pat, I found that the Add-on is not in "all add-ons"... is in Run withou permisions as you can see in the next screenshot.
We have an application that need user & password and this applicaiton running into Internet Explorer, when some user open a pdf file into the application into IE they reported us the next message:
"I logged in ok and opened up "our application", the reports are still kicking to adobe which isn't allowing the drill down. "
" At least part of the issue is that PDFs are no longer opening in an Internet Explorer. "
We can think that can be the Add-on in the right place (All add-ons)? or can be other thing?

Adobe Reader XI - Force menu to display when viewing PDF

Hello,
We run adobe reader XI in a citrix xenapp deployment. With older versions of adobe, users would open a PDF and the top menu bar would be displayed which would allow them to print fairly easily.
With the newer XI version, that menu does not show up unless you press F8. So users are forced to either press F8 to bring up the menu, or right click within the document and select print that way.
Is there a preferences setting, or a registry key change that could be made to force this menu to come up every time? I took a look around and didn't notice anything that stood out.

How do I make Adobe Reader print settings document-specific?

This question concerns Adobe Reader XI, v. 11.0.07 on Windows 7. This is a new environment for me.
If I open 2 pdf documents and change the print settings on one of them (say from Portrait to Landscape), the other document's print settings also change to Landscape. This didn't happen with the previous Adobe Readers I have used. How do I change the print settings for each document so that they don't affect the other documents?

Acrobat retains (most) print settings while the program is open, and many though a close.
Scaling, Print as Image, Print to File, Print color as black, Comments & Forms all are retained until changed.
Printer Features (anything set through the Properties tab), all are retained until the program is closed.
Not retained in any case is Page range & copies.

Adobe Reader Security Updates after Windows XP End of Support

Hi,
I have to check up for our customer, whether there will be any Security Updates for Adobe Reader (XI) on Windows XP after End of Support next year.
Haven't found any information on the web :-(

I don't know, and like you, haven't seen anything.
Here's what I do know.
Android dropped ALL support for Flash Playe June 2012 and Adobe continued to develop and release security updates for the older Android Flash Player versions up till September 10 of this year.
Support for Linux ended with version 11.2, but security fixes for Linux Flash Player are still being developed and released.
Given the still-widespread use of XP in schools and corporate environments, I'd have to say that support (at least security updates) will go on for a while after next June14 when Microsoft officially "sunsets" XP. How long that will be is not info I have.

Adobe Reader X Help Menu won't open

Adobe Reader X Help (F1) will not open. The message I receive is: "Online Help content cannot be displayed. Verify you can launch your web browser and have access to the Internet."
WinXP SP3
no antivirus installed
IE 8/Mozilla Firefox 3.6.13
Protected Mode Enabled and Disabled
Any ideas?

Reader X does not ship with a help function other than Internet-based help. There is a downloadable "help" PDF for reader X that can be referenced, but it is not accessed with the F1-Help function. Maybe they will fix this some day.
