Adobe Reader seems to have reverted to a more primitive version

I opened a PDF yesterday and it appears that my Adobe Reader used for reading PDFs has gone back to a more primitive version, which is odd considering in the 2 years I have had this computer I have never had such version on my computer. I have a Mac and am running mountain lion 10.8.5. Basically the layout of Adobe is now looking like it does on my PC work computer which is a 2006. I can no longer highlight in color nor make notes in color and the more advanced layout is now just primitive and plain. Is there anyway for me to get back the highlight in color and the newer lay out?
Thanks

Are you sure it is Adobe Reader running? What is the App Name - shown just after the apple icon in the menu bar at the top?

  • Adobe Reader seems to have uninstalled and i can not install.

    Hi guys,
I tried to open a PDF yesterday and found that Reader (v10) appears to have uninstalled itself (I have not uninstalled it since its last update and my flat mate states she has not touched any of my programmes). I downloaded the latest version from your website (v10.1.1) using firefox and found that when i tried to run the installation file, nothing happens. Task manager shows the process as running but it is not consuming any CPU use. I tried shutting down all other programmes and the same thing happens. I left the laptop for a while to see if it would run but it does not. I'm running windows vista.
    Thanks,
    K

You may want to try the following.
Remove all traces of Reader (not only the program) from your system using the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. This is no longer supported by Microsoft because it can produce problems with Win 7, but you can still download it from from places like
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
Then, download the Reader installer from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
    and perform a clean install.

  • Got to end of trial period for Adobe reader XI and cannot revert back to old version or install another version b/c it says I have a newer more functional version, so now I've got no reader at all and cannot fix. Any ideas how to overcome this?.

YOu need to be clear about the products you are using, so we can help you. In particular there is no trial of Adobe Reader, it is free and keeps running. Sounds like you are using some versions of Acrobat - which?
YOu must properly uninstall the trial, don't just delete files or you may get a mess impossible to recover.

  • Safari seems to have reverted to bing and I get a bunch of junk

Safari seemed to have reverted to bing and I now get a lot of spam when I open it, rather than links to previous pages. How do I get rid of this?

Go step by step and test.
    1. If adware is installed without your knowledge,
download  free AdwareMedic by clicking “Download ” from here
         http://www.adwaremedic.com/index.php
Install , open,  and run it by clicking “Scan for Adware” button   to remove adware.
Once adware is removed, quit the app by clicking AdwareMedic in the menubar
        and selecting “Quit AdwareMedic”.
    Safari
    2. Safari > Preferences > Extensions
Turn those off one by one and relaunch Safari again to test.
Select Google as search engine in Safari preferences.

Adobe Reader Splash--I have a PDF file that whenever I try to open it suggests using Adobe Reader with a link to download Adobe Reader. I can't get beyond this. I have made Preview the default for all PDF's and yet this persists. I have also deleted Adobe Reader. This particular file is a portfolio, btw.

I have similar issue. Did u find an answer?

  • Does Adobe Reader for iOS have the ability to open inbedded links to additional PDF docs?  If not, then what would be the best way to use these already created PDF's?

Does Adobe Reader for iOS have the ability to open inbedded links created with Acrobat Standard to additional PDF docs?  If not, then what would be the best way to use these already created PDF's on an I Pad?

As of June 2014, none of the Adobe Reader mobile products support the hyperlink action for opening a separate PDF document.
    Adobe Reader for iOS
    Adobe Reader for Android
Adobe Reader Touch for Windows 8
In addition, the Reader mobile products do not open multiple windows/documents simultaneously, which would make the navigation between PDF documents nearly impossible. (Once a hyperlink takes you to a different PDF document, you have no way to go back to the original PDF document.)
The only Adobe Reader product that fulfills your department's requirements is Adobe Reader XI (mostly for Windows/Mac desktop/laptop computers).  Acrobat Pro and Standard are paid products.
Because you are in search of a less expensive device for your department, you could get a Windows tablet instead of a Windows desktop/laptop computer. Microsoft Surface Pro (that you've mentioned in your previous reply) is just one example.  You can also find other less expensive Windows tablets.
    Tablets
However, please keep in mind that there are two different types of Windows tablets running two different operating systems.
    (a) A Windows tablet with an Intel-based processor running Windows 8.1 Pro
    Example: Surface Pro 3
You can install and run traditional desktop apps (e.g. Adobe Reader XI) and new Windows Store apps ("Modern" or "Metro-style" apps).
    (b) A Windows tablet with an ARM-based processor running Windows RT 8.1
    Example: Surface 2
You can only install and run Windows Store apps (e.g. Adobe Reader Touch) but not traditional desktop apps like Adobe Reader XI.
In general, type (b) tablets are more affordable than type (a) tablets.  However, if you want to run Adobe Reader XI, you do need to check the technical specification of each tablet and make sure the following conditions are met.
    Processor: Intel
Operating system:  Windows 8/8.1 or Windows 8/8.1 Pro, not RT
Hope this helps you choose the right device for your department.  Please let us know if you have any questions about system requirements or supported features in the Adobe Reader products.

You do. Your system is either Windows or Mac (or maybe a couple of other less popular choices) and a version of one or the other.
When you set up your machine, you were asked for an administrator user name and password. You need both of these to install software.

  • Cannot install Adobe Reader 11.0.09  and Asian Fonts over older versions

I'm using a script to install Adobe Reader 11.0.09 and it works sometimes, but very often, there is an error saying it cannot install it because a previous version exists.
We have to manually uninstall older versions of Adobe Reader 11 and then re-run the script and then it works.
    @echo off
    cls
    start /wait msiexec.exe /i \\appserver1\Apps\AdobeReader\11.009\AcroRead.msi /qb TRANSFORMS="\\appserver1\Apps\AdobeReader\11.009\AcroRead.mst"
    start /wait msiexec.exe /i \\appserver1\Apps\AdobeReader\11.009\fonts\FontPack11009_XtdAlf_Lang.msi /qb
How can we change this script so that it will force installation over any previous version?
By the way, the installation was created with Adobe Customization Wizard and has settings enabled to remove any previous versions of Adobe Reader.  So, the problem with installing over existing version could be from the Font Pack installation,

What does the verbose installation log say?

Si estás en Windows, puedes probar usar esta herramienta para borrar toda traza de Reader de tu computador:
    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Luego, puedes descargar el instalador fuera de línea de Reader desde
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
Una vez descargado, reinicia tu computador y corre el instalador antes de hacer cualquier otra cosa.

  • Does Adobe Reader for Android have the Flash Player Runtime

I have a PDF document that I generate which contains an embedded Flex application.
It works fine with the desktop version of PDF reader. However. It doesn't appear that
PDF reader for Android contains the Flash Player runtime.
Can someone from Adobe confirm this ?
    Thanks.

Dov, you confimed that Adobe Reader for Android has the Flash Player Runtime - I thought this feature is necessary to be able to show embedded  (flv) videos?
What about viewing cross platform proof PDF files containing mp4 (H.264) embedded videos?
Up to now I’m forced to show ezPDF Reader in my workflow scenarios - think about the bad psychology that I always will have explain that the rich media PDF workflows could work with Adobe products, but Adobe itself seems to limit PDF use cases in order not to become a competitor of let’s guess of FOLIO?
Please explain me why? No market? I would like to contradict as much as I can.
If someone starts to weaken the big possibilities for PDF even on mobile devices this seems to be Adobe itself: Where are the Adobe show cases showing rich media PDFs on mobile devices?
Almost everything Adobe is showing with rich media information is in DPS  based on Folio  (slide shows, videos etc).
You might get all the functionality much easier using PDF (seen from a classic DTP workflow using Word, FrameMaker or InDesign)
Why didn’t Adobe add more multimedia features?  Where is the 3D support on mobile devices?
Has Adobe changed the overall PDF strategy?
Where is an  Adobe PDF cross platform strategy for using rich media PDFs on PC, Macs, Android and iPhone/iPads?

  • Which version of Adobe Reader do I have currently installed?

The site says, "To determine which version of Adobe Reader you have currently installed, choose Help > About Adobe Reader. " But there is no Help button or tab or spot to click on.

Thanks. I was trying to find Help on verious websites like <http://www.adobe.com/products/reader.html>.  Still, it shows my version is X when I just downloaded (I thought) version XI.  Guess eleven didn't install for some reason.

  • Do I need Adobe Reader if I have CS4?

I have Adobe Creative Suite 4 Design Premium, using Windows 7 Home Premium on Dell Inspiron 1545. I have to uninstall as many programs as I can to save disk space. (I've maxed out the memory upgrades my computer can take.) Adobe Reader XI (which I think is the free reader) takes 127 MB. Can I uninstall Adobe Reader XI? In other words, is Adobe Reader XI performing a function that CS4 could perform? Obviously, I'm not a power user of CS, but use it occasionally in my work as an editor (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, in that order). Of course, I definitely need a pdf reader. Yes, I know I need a new computer, but need to make this one work a little while longer.

Not only do you not need it you should have really have Reader and
    Acrobat installed.

  • Adobe Reader says I have it but I cannot look at certain statements because it says I need Adobe Reader, but I have it! Feeling frustrated!!!

I keep running into problems seeing documents and such on Safari. When I go to a page it says I need Adobe Reader to view it but I already have the newest Adobe Reader on my computer. I really need to fix this! Can anyone help me?

This is what it says. I have done all of this and it still does not let me view the page.
Before viewing PDF documents in this browser you must launch Adobe Reader and accept the End User License Agreement, then Quit and relaunch the browser.
