Adobe Reader triggers application errors

Hello, everyone.
Every time I launch Adobe Reader, it first tells me that it cannot open Protected Mode due to a problem with the environment and asks me to choose how to open the file. The file does open, but after that, *regardless* of what I chose, I start triggering application errors.
Every time I try to launch an .exe file - basically, everything on a Windows system - I get application error 0xc0000142, saying that the application was unable to start correctly. I can't launch anything new until I restart my computer.
Any programs that were running at the moment don't stop running, so I'm guessing something happens with launch algorithms. Adobe is the only program that triggers this error chain.
The entire ordeal started when I tried to write a VBA script in MS Excel to automatically save spreadsheets as PDF files. The script was nothing special, I just recorded saving as PDF and replayed it. Excel created the file, but when it opened, the Protected Mode error showed up first and this error triggering started happening.
I've tried deleting Adobe's products and reinstalling them (including registry files).
I'm running a Windows 7 64-bit system.
This error is making studying for my exams very annoying (I have to use Google Drive each time), so any help will be much, much appreciated.

It's Adobe Reader XI, v11.0.10.
I could open the reader itself, but once I was prompted for Protected Mode, the chain would start.
I managed to enter preferences and mess around a bit - disabled protected mode, javascript (just in case), disabled "enhanced security". And that all worked - I can now freely open Reader and the errors don't start. I think it was Protected Mode - no idea why, though.
Works fine now.

    Hi Simon,
I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble logging in to ExportPDF via Reader. I've checked your account, and all is well there.
For starters, please make sure that you have the most current version of Reader installed by choosing Help > Check for Updates.
If you're still having trouble logging in via Reader, please try logging in to the web interface at https://cloud.acrobat.com.
Please let us know how it goes.

  • Saving fillable PDF file in Android Adobe Reader Mobile Application

I'll do my best to explain my situation.
    1. I open the fill-able PDF file from Google Drive with Android Adobe Reader Mobile Application.
    2. I fill out the pdf form using the Android Adobe Reader Mobile Application.
    3. Once I'm done filling-in the PDF, I would like to save the file in a specific folder in Google Drive.
I cannot find any saving option within the Android Adobe Reader Mobile Application.
The only way around saving was the "Sharing" feature.  It allows the user to share the pdf file using various android applications such as Google Drive, Email, and Evernote to share the file.
This does not allow for overwriting of the original file.  Therefore, you will create a new file every time you share the file.
I wanted to know if there was a way to save the file under the same name to overwrite the same file in the Android Mobile version.
    Thanks in advance.

You need to duplicate(and/or rename) it first (after finding it in the "Documents"  menu tab), then fill it out. This is the workaround for the missing Save/Save as menu. Once you fill out something, and leave the application, the document will be saved automatically.

If you haved tried all the fixes and suggestions, there is not much to add. Just in case: did you really try using this tool http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html to first eliminate all traces of Reader, and then use the full offline installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/?

  • Search Server 2010 Express: Open a PDF document from list of search results invokes adobe reader client application with error

    Hi community,
I set up search server 2010 express on a windows 2008 r2 server.
The Adobe PDF iFilter 9 64 bit is installed and search is correctly configured to find PDF-files.
When doing a search and clicking on a link of the result page, the PDF is not opened in the browser, instead the adobe reader XI client application (11.0.04) is invoked and an error raised like "could not open document .. check syntax of url..."
Right click on a link to open in new tab works fine. And PDF-Files from other arbitrary Internet Sites opens in browser correctly. Moreover when configure Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 as default application on the client it also open in Browser correctly.
I noticed googling the web there are several challenges when dealing with PDF-files in sharepoint. The following settings are made so far:
    1. In IE: Add-On to open PDF in Browser is enabled for all sites.
    2. Client Integration is enabled
    3. The OpenControl attribute in the DOCICON.xml is left empty OpenControl="" for the pdf entry.
    4. The Browser File Handling is set to "Permissive".
Please feel free to ask for more information if needed.
I appreciate any help on this. I don't know what to do further.
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for the reply.
Before responding to your points I want to give a little more context:
We have an intranet based on pure html and a little aspx containing many of those pdf- files. By clicking on the links in the intranet the files open correctly in browser handled by the adobe plugin. Now we set up this search server crawling the file system
accessed through a share to the root folder of the intranet. In the search server settings a host mapping rule is applied to replace the file://[share] with http://[intranet host+domain+port] to access files over http.
And now to answer your question. The resulting urls are the same, copying the link from intranet and copying the link from the search result (except some case issues).
The event viewer not seem to show any errors on this, though I'm not very familiar using it.
If any further information are from interest and any ideas come to your mind - please let me know.
    Thanks.

  • Adobe reader + other applications installation error

Hi guys, I think this is my second post on this forum. okay, many applications including adobe reader won't install on my mac (os x10.6.4) "warning: the following disk images couldn't be opened. Reason: not recognized." The adobe reader I was installing supports osx 10.6.3, but mine is as mentioned above...is that the reason? If so, where can i find the adobe reader for my system?
    I'd appreciate your help.
    cheers.

thanks for the reply. I need adobe reader, the preview thing you mention is terrible in my opinion.
I've tried your suggestion of re downloading it, it the process of installing, it said installation complete while the bar that shows the installation process isn't full and the process is obviously still continuing: you can see bar moving forwards and stuff. I clicked ok and ignore the continuing process...restart computer anyway and try to open my pdf files: no luck. I delete the application, download it again. try to install it again,: "installation is completed and the installation process is still going on despite the window that pop up telling the installation was complete. I ignore the "installation is completed" message this time. The bar moved until it was about 97%, then stopped....waited and waited but nothing seemed to be changing. So i click ok on the "installation is completed" window, restarted the computer, opened pdf files but no luck again.
    I'll keep trying

  • Adobe reader XI gives error "mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request".

I keep receiving warnings that I need to update Adobe Reader. I currently have the latest version of Adobe Reaxer X (10.1.7). When I click on "Check for Updates" I am told no updates are available.
I have tried installing Adobe Reader XI but, when I launch it, I receive an error message stating that "mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request".
I do not want to use Microsoft Outlook (or any other Mail Client). How do I install Adobe Reader XI without a default Mail Client being required?

    Hi,
Do you mean Send as Attachment button under File>Save & Send>Sending Using E-mail
in Office applications, like Excel or Word?
Is this an issue that come up recently? Have you ever made any changes to your system?
If you have installed multiple e-mail programs on the same computer, please try to make Outlook the default mail client and then try again:

  • Adobe Reader X - Runtime error - Windows 7

What am I doing wrong? Any ideas?
Installed Reader X 3 times since yesterday onto differnt Windows 7 machines - including once onto a clean Windows 7 Enterprise 32bit install (i.e. no old versions of anything to remove) - and on all atempts once the software is installed and run, i just get a runtime error and it won't open up.  Screenshots below

This was exactly what I expected after I read that Adobe announced Reader X (X fits really because it is the best to terminate this software).
It is always the same - the quality of Adobe software is below each expectation. Now we have the already version 10 and Adobe has still not understood the difference of Windows XP and and Windows 7 regarding user profiles - I doubt that they ever heard the term "roaming profile" or "junction/symbolic link/hard link". Some people should be forbidden to program - if I would have the choice I would select another pdf viewer. And if you try to address these kind of issues Adobe acts deaf and simply says this not supported instead of fixing their stupid mistakes in their poor products - this approach is so easy - if they  continue to behave in this way and exploit their current monopole they will not survive, because all disappointed customers will switch to the next best alternative as soon as they offers a less painful product or at least better support. I start to love Steve Jobs and Apple.
The question stays: Why Adobe reinvented a bug, which was already fixed in Adobe Reader 9 - what the hell are they doing in their programming caves in India - it looks like one programmer does not speak to the other or took a very old outdated code stream - very poor versioning and quality managment.
I have to deal all the time in my Company with these Adobe Pre-Alpha products full of bugs and I'm fed up to always run into major unsolved issues - Adobe test your products before you do a final release!!!! You ever heard about a public beta phase??????
This is from your own kb article: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/404/kb404597.html
"This error occurs when the application checks for read permissions for each directory in the path to Application Data. The application is supposed to instead only inspect for permission in the Application Data directory and below. If the requisite permissions are not found, a runtime error occurs.
The 9.4 cumulative update changes this behavior so that the application does not check for permissions on parent folders."
So read your own fu..... KB before you release anything and make such a spectacle about a <sarcasm on> "complete new version, which is the most safe, reliable and convenient reader version ever <sarcasm off> (lol)

  • Adobe Reader 9, Installer error 1635

Hi, I have a problem updating Adobe Reader 9.4.2. to version 9.4.3
Direct after starting the update I receive the installer error:
"1635 This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package."
I have tried this MS fix (MicrosoftFixit50123.msi) but it did not help.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971187/en
I must say that a few days ago I also had an issue updating Adobe FlashPlayer. It would tell me at boot there was an update available, and after giving it the OK it started downloading, and installing, but although the installing gave no errors at all, both the FlashPlayers for Internet Explorer and Firefox were NOT updated, and only after a lot of these 'fake' updates I noticed it because a following update for Firefox told me my FlashPlayer was out of date while I saw FlashPlayer update that same morning.
Downloading and un-installing/re-installing both FlashPlayers did the trick...  But now, a few days later another Adobe product has a problem updating.
I have not yet re-installed the reader, but since I have seen it work for 4 years, and since it MAY be related to Adobe Flash, I would like to see if someone can shine some light on this issue first.
I work with Windows XP Prof completely updated ( except... Adobe Reader).
    Thanks.
    Edit:
Meanwhile i have tried to uninstall Adobe Reader, but the same error persist.

As far as I can see the problem is solved.
You gave me the tip for the Windows Cleanup Utility, but the support for the program has stopped because some removals did damage to other installs. So I had some second thoughts about it.
But your idea brought me another, to use the Revo Uninstaller.
    http://www.revouninstaller.com/
    * Made a system restore point
    * Downloaded Revo uninstaller Pro 30 day trial, but full version.
    * Run Revo ( ! Adobe Reader 9 had 664 registry keys with 902 values...)
    * Needed a reboot to remove last files from the Adobe reader 9.
    * Roughly checked if other Adobe products still run...
    * Downloaded and installed Adobe Reader X  ( ? X ? It is version 10.0.1 after updating)
    * Did an update of Reader X
    * Needed reboot after update.
Ankit_Jain, the link you gave for the Reader 9 download is an US version, but I needed a Dutch (NL) version. That's why I searched for the Reader on the Adobe site, but came on the Reader X page. I thought the X stands for 'the latest version'. But it is not.
So I have a functioning reader back, with one difference:  it is not Reader 9, but Reader X . I really don't know what the difference is, but what I do know is that the install takes quite a long time, and, if you don't uncheck the box on the site for the (free) McAfee scanner, it will also install that.
I will try what I have for now, and if I may find other problems around it I will surely report back.
    Thanks all for your reactions

  • Adobe Reader triggers discrete graphics when 'signing' Mac OS X

    G'day,
When I launch Adobe Reader on my MacBook Pro and load a document, then click on 'Sign' it triggers the discrete graphics chip.  It then remains active even after closing the document. If I kill the Adobe Reader application, the graphics defaults back to Integrated.
As I typically load and sign and then close the document but keep Reader running.  In battery mode, this is likely to drain the power faster and I'd appreciate any advice on how to avoid it, or workaround it - rather than just killing the application every time.
    Adobe Reader 11.0.04
    Mac OSX 10.9
    15" Retina MacBook Pro (Late-2013)

    Jason.

Have you checked the Apple forums for this as well? LOADS of people are reporting battery issues with Mavericks over there, though unrelated to this, I'm sure. I honestly don't know what would cause the switch with Reader. Perhaps one of the hardware gurus at Apple would.

  • Error 1935 - Adobe Reader (11) - An error occurred during the installation of assembly component - Windows 7

    NOT RESOLVED
It seems to be a problem with my windows installation. I will re-install at a later date since installing PDF viewing programs the only issue.
    Problem:
While installing Adobe Reader XI using the install_reader11_en_mssd_aaa_aih.exe from Adobe Reader Install for all versions and AdbeRdr11000_en_US.msi from a forum post on here. Error 1935 occurs using both installers and causes the setup to fail and initiate rollback.
    Additional information:
In Programs & Features list there is no adobe reader as you can see:
This is pretty much a clean install of windows on which I have installed: Adobe Flash Player (16), Steam + some games, Chrome, Skype and some Visual C++ Redistributables, .NET Framwork, Drivers for GPU, CPU, Motherboard and USB devices.
    Error:

    Steps taken:
    1. I have cleared the transaction log using command prompt with the following command:
        fsutil resource setautoreset true C:\
Restarting the computer and trying to install Adobe Reader 11 results in the same error.
    2. Restarting the computer, disabling Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and installing Adobe Reader 11 results in the same error.
    3. Chrome has "allow all sites to run JavaScript" checked.
    Thanks
    Edit:
I have attempted to install an earlier version (10.1.4) of Adobe Reader - Same error occurs.
    Edit 2:
I'm going to look for some alternatives for the mean time
    Edit 2.1:
These alternative programs are failing to install as well. Multiple errors, I now assume the issue is with my windows installation.
