Adobe Reader upgrade

We upgraded Adobe Reader to the latest version, but now it is prompting to install a new verison of flash player, which we are not yet prepared to do.  Is this because of the format of the PDF?  Most other PDFs open fine.

The wording in that Help doc is misleading and confusing: "Note that the Flash Active X component is not enough to display this content. A full Flash player must be installed."
What they are trying to say is that Adobe Reader uses the Flash Player Plugin (NPAPI, for other browsers), not the ActiveX Control (for Internet Explorer).
Other software (e.g. PowerPoint) is using the ActiveX Control to display Flash content.
I have no problems that Flash Player has two different add-ons for Windows.  What confuses the hell out of many users is that this is delivered with two different installers.  I have for years trying to advocate that these separate installers are merged into one, but so far my efforts have been fruitless.
Anybody who supports merging the two installers, please go and vote here: https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=2945082

    Mandeep5062,
Thanks for the quick reply.  I tried to download but got an error message that this FTP file cannot be downloaded via Internet Explorer.

Problem viewing forms. This form is not supported with the current version of Adobe Reader.
Upgrade to the latest version for full support.
What exactly do I need to do?

That means you were probably using Adobe Acrobat to view PDF's. Acrobat is totally unnessary, you can view PDF's in Preview (Applications - Preview).
BTW PLEASE complete your profile. It's very difficult to help  someone when they don't provide any information about their system. You can easily do this by clicking Your Stuff in the upper right of this page, then click Profile and fill in the pertinent information.

  • PDFs black after Adobe Reader upgrade

I've just upgraded to Adobe Reader 10. This works with IE and Chrome but FF shows black screen and spinner on tab for ever.
I have read your comprehensive help screen and confirmed all the items in there are up to date.
I did not have this problem, noted here by earlier posters, when I previously upgraded Adobe Reader 9.

You need to open Adobe Reader once and accept the EULA.

  • Adobe Reader Upgrade problem

    Hi
When I try to upgrade I get the error message sliprt.dll not found.
The FAQ section makes no menton of this.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks

From what version to what version are you trying to upgrade?
I recommend that you uninstall the old version, then install the new version using the offline installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

  • Unable to Upload Adobe Reader Upgrade 8.1.1

I have tried unsuccessfully several times to upload and install Adobe Reader 8.1.1. I can initiate the installation, but it always indicates it was an unsuccessful effort. Why?

The System Requirements (link) don't actually list Mac OS X 10.4.11, 10.5.0 or 10.5.1 so I wonder if there is a problem with the very latest versions of OS X.
You should be able to open PDFs just fine in Preview.

  • Adobe Reader update scam

This morning I was happy to see email from Adobe announcing updates to Adobe Reader. Then I noticed that the email and associated URLs weren't adobe.com, and that they came to a gmail account that I had not registered with Adobe, and that there were 6 emails containing 6 different website URLs. So I opened Adobe Reader X (not "Acrobat Reader") and checked for updates. No updates were available. The websites listed in the emails were all offline. Here's what I received.

Thanks Dominic, we are aware of this. We made a post about this a while back: http://blogs.adobe.com/psirt/2010/09/alert-adobe-reader-upgrade-email-spamphishing-scam.ht ml. Unfortunately, we try but there is only so much that we can do to stop this spam.

  • Adobe Reader X and *.pps files

    Dear Sir or Madam:
With the recent Adobe Reader upgrade (?) to Reader X, I have encountered a problem attempting to open previous received  *.psa files as well as those received after the upgrade.
When attempting to open the file, the following error message is received:"Adobe Reader could not open *.pps because it it either not a  supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and was't correctly decoded.)  I have attempted to Repair the Reader twice, without success.  Also, one of the recommendation is to "Enable 3rd Party Browser Extensions" under Internet Options, Tools, Advance Settings.  This requirement is enabled.
What is the solution?  When Adobe provides an update, they should send a workable upgrade and not one that wreaks havoc on a clinet's computer.

Thank you for your reply.  Your response answers my question.  The only
remaining item, I could open emailed Power Point and Photo Album files me with earlier versions of Adobe Reader?  I will attempt removing Reader X and download an earlier version from Adobe's web page.
    Once again, thanks.

  • Installing new adobe reader

I have been on a couple of sites and tried to view some of thier videos. They tell me i need the newest adobe reader upgrade.  Tried the upgrade which as available at the viewing site. It told me to close all windows before installing?
Eventually, I went to your site and did the upgrade. It says, install was finished and complete. Agreed to your user agreement.
But, going back to site to view video and site says, upgrade is not there?

Adobe Reader cannot view videos.  Perhaps you should install Flash Player?

    Hi Timia,
If you are using Safari as a web browser :-
Open Safari, go to Safari menu > Preferences > General, and put Google as the homepage. Then, choose Google as your default search engine.
If you are using Google Chrome as the web browser :-
      Open Google Chrome.
In the top right corner of the page, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu > Settings.
In the "Search" section, select Google from the drop-down menu.
Let me know if you still experience any issue.
    Regards,
    Aadesh

  • After completing my upgrade to Adobe Reader 11.0.10 When I attpemt to use "Tools/File/File Save As" from IE 11 I get a "Adobe Reader is not Responding" and my browser is locked up.

After completing my upgrade to Adobe Reader 11.0.10. when I attempt to save an online PDF to my local drive I receive a blank window where I would expect to see file directory structure to save to.
No local directories are displayed for "Saving To", it is all blank.   When I try to Close (by clicking X)  the "File Save As" box a message pops up on top that says "Adobe Reader is not Responding"  It locks up all of my IE windows, not just the one with the PDF doc.
I then need to go Task Manager and stop the IE task.  All my browser windows are then closed.
That is the only way to recover from the "Adobe Reader is Not Responding" message.
This was not happening in previous versions of Reader.
Tolls/File/File Save As always worked properly.
    I have installed IE 11 (11.0.9600.17690)

Please don't post the same question multiple times!

  • Error opening a pdf after upgrading adobe reader

a client of mine can't open some pdf's after upgrading adobe reader. he gets the message:
"There was an error processing a page. Invalid ColorSpace."
What can he do? he works with windows.

    Hi,
I like to share the discussion as I am confronted with same or similar problem. Since last Saturday the pdf attachments I sent with my e-mail messages show a blank pdf document upon opening. To make sure it really was the case I sent message with pdf attached to myself: bingo! Have recently updated to Adobe Reader 9.4.1. Using WinXp SP3 and MS Outlook 2003 SP3.
    Any suggestions?

  • Why can't I open any pdf files with any version of Adobe Reader after I upgraded?

Upgraded Adobe Reader not too long ago and after then it stopped opening pdf files. I had an old version of Adobe Acrobat and that opened the file no problem. I tried to downgrade Adobe Reader, but that didn't fix the problem.
Just tried to open Adobe Reader by itself without any files and it still crashed.
    FYI – I’m using Windows 7 (Microsoft 2013)

It's not a good idea to have both Acrobat and Reader unless they're both of the same version number (like X or XI). Such a situation can cause all kinds of conflicts and crashes, as you've seen. Also, if you have an old version of Acrobat it's might not be compatible with your OS any more.
