Adobe reader won't open PDF file

I have Adobe Reader 9 and Windows 8 on a Dell computer. When I try to open a PDF file from a website it sends me to my Library on my computer and won't open the file. If I try to open a PDF file from my Desktop, it opens OK. What can I do to fix this?

Do you use Firefox' own PDF viewer, or the Adobe Reader plugin?  See http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/pdf-browser-plugin-configuration.html

  • Adobe reader won't open pdf files

I was hoping someone can help. I have Windows XP, and I use Firefox as my web browser. I have installed Adobe Reader, and when I click on a pdf link, in the lower left field of the screen it reads as follows: 'connecting, waiting, stopped' it repeats this over, and over, and over. I eventually have to right click and save the link to the desktop, but this is becoming entirely too frustrating........I have since uninstalled Adobe, and re-installed it, but nothing changed. I even uninstalled Firefox and re-installed, but to no avail.
If anyone has a fix, I am open to your suggestions.
    Thank you.

    Have a look here:
    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Opening+PDF+files+within+Firefox
    (http://preview.tinyurl.com/5a6klx)
it's probably an issue with the Firefox plugin for Adobe Reader.

Make sure you have the latest Adobe Reader installed for your OS.

Did you try using Preview. If you control click on the PDF on your desktop you can use the "open with" option.

  • Adobe Reader doesn't open .pdf files anymore. Error: 213:11.

Adobe Reader doesn't open .pdf files anymore. It's written Error: 213:11. Details: laptop with Windows XP, Adobe Reader X

Are these local or online documents?  If online, in what browser?  If local, does the documents folder and docs themselves have sufficient permissions?
Is there anything else beside the number 213:11?

  • I downloaded Adobe Reader and cannot open PDF files, can anyone tell me why? or what I need to do.

I am not able to open PDF files or documents.  Why?

Here is my assessment, Claudio.  I know you are revered among your peers and it's very obvious that you live on these forums.  You have undoubtedly helped a lot of people and you will be rewarded in your afterlife for your endeavors here but here's a reality check for both you and Pat:
What lesson did D.Call learn from you?  Likely the lesson was, don't post here or you'll be treated as an imbecile by some hotshot bitwhiz named Claudio Gonzalez.
Did you not see that D.Call said s/he was an inexperienced computer user… and was obviously asking for elementary level assistance?  You were blinded by your belief that your knowledge and expertise is being wasted on anyone who isn’t forthcoming to your expectations.  I merely pointed out that if you think it's such a waste of your time, why dwell?  You should have left Graffiti to work with D.Call and headed off to another thread.  Surely there were other posts requiring your extreme level of higher intelligence.
Think about this:  You don't like it when someone talks down to you as I have here, now do you?  No one does.  Right now as you read this my guess is you are fuming and likely trying to think of a way to smite me.  You can respond to this post in whatever tone or language you choose but I won't take offense.  I’ll be the bigger man… I promise I won't reply so you can have the last word.
When you respond, see if you can take it up a notch and maybe even admit you made a mistake with your corkscrew remark.  I don't think you would ever risk being so disrespectful to D.Call, and most certainly, not to me or anyone else if we were face-to-face.  If you worked in my company, you would be fired for disrespecting my customers.
By the way, do you and Pat have spell check ability?  If you do, you should use it.

  • Rusty Solomon : Adobe Reader Error while opening pdf files

    Hello everyone,
I have a systematic error opening PDF files with Adobe Reader X (10.1.1)
"Adobe Reader has encountered a problem and needs to close. Please excuse us for the inconvenience."
By waiting I installed Foxit but I would understand.
I uninstalled Adobe and reinstalled but it's still the same.
Thank you for your answers in advance
    Rusty Solomon

First I would try to update to 11.1.8.
If that does not fix it, tell us your operating system.

  • Adobe Reader won't open PDFs

Why do I keep getting an error message when I try to print a PDF with Adobe Reader? It says that I have to sign the user agreement. I have already done this at least 10 times....

The ikon appears on my desktop ok.  But when I click on it I get the following message:
Adobe Reader could not open "Paul Voigt and Edison Bell.pdf" because it is either not a supported
file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and
    wasn't correctly decoded.
I get this message every time I try to use Adobe Reader!

  • Adobe Reader is not opening pdf files - there is no Accept button on License Agreement

Please help. I am unable to open any pdf files with Adobe Reader 9.4.0. I get taken to an  Adobe Reader License Agreement page that says "Press the Accept button to Agree to the License Agreement and Continue." However, there is no accept button to press! Every timne I try to open a pdf file, I get taken back to the same Adobe Reader License Agreement page, with no Accept button. How do I get out of this dead-end loop? I have followed Adobe's tips on how to "Change" the file through the Control Panel in order to correct the problem, but I still end up in the same dead-end loop. What's the solution?

You can open Reader, click on right arrow key on your keyboard (it will change focus from Decline to Accept) and hit Enter....

  • Adobe Reader will not open .pdf file.

I have Adobe Reader Acrobat 8 Professional.
I am attempting to open a .pdf file - it opens, but then gives me an error message and closes Adobe.
Error Code 148:3  You cannot use this product at this time.  You must repair the probgram by uninstalling and then reinstalling this product.
I've done this, but receive the same error message.  Any ideas what's going on?

Try using the Acrobat/Reader Cleaner Tool to remove the old version of Adobe Reader 8:  http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Then update your version of Adobe Reader:  http://get.adobe.com/reader/
By the way if you have both installed remove Reader and run the repair of Acrobat.

  • Adobe reader won't recognise pdf file when downloaded

    Hi all
Hope I'm in the right forum, if not would be grateful for correct re-direction ...
I have a web site written in DWcs4 with a link to a PHP page offering a pdf document for download.
The PHP code includes the "content-disposition: attachment " header in order to prompt the "view or save as" download box.
When the link in the web page is accessed the pop up box asking to view or save the file works fine  (as desired) however when trying to view the pdf file,
acrobat reader opens automatically but gives a message similar to the following :
my_pdf(1).pdf is not an permitted file type or is damaged (for example sent as an email attachment and not correctly coded)
Firstly I dont understand why the file reference has a (1) added to it (the source file is simply my_pdf.pdf)
secondly I dont understand why the file is not recognised since I created it myself in Adobe 8.0 converted from a word doc.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
    Thanks
    Wadyaro

    Hi Luv_craft,
Have you tried to check to print with other PDF documents. Try open a different PDF document and check if you have option to print or you are able to see the list to choose the printer to print with.

When I go to downloads page in Firefox and try to open a PDF file which has been saved on the Downloads page, Windows media player opens instead of Adobe reader.

I downloaded adobe reader, but when i try to open a pdf all my screen shows is a black screen.  the odobe icon shows up on the bottom of my screen along with the other icons like launchpad, safari, etc.  what am i doing wrong?

try a diff. PDF file to make sure the PDF isnt corrupted.
If still a no go, delete acrobat reader from applications, and reinstall http://get.adobe.com/reader/
open PDF again, make sure the PDF file is directed to acrobat for opening.
If not, right click on the PDF file, > open with > acrobat

  • Adobe Reader unable to open pdf files

when pdf files are double-clicked, nothing happens
from Adobe Reader, pdf files are not available

    Try:
Open Finder > Preferences, then make sure that the "Show all filename extensions" is enabled
In Finder, right-click any file with a .pdf extension, then click "Get Info"
In the "Open With" section, choose either "Preview.app" or "Adobe Reader"
Then click the "Change All..." button
Your PDFs should now open in that application.
