Adobe Reader X (10.0.1) corrupting character data/report content when printing

Our software uses Adobe Reader to print PDF files, via a Java application that runs an exec command to invoke AcroRd32.exe.
This has been working fine for years without problems, however recently one of our client sites upgraded all their Windows machines to Adobe Reader X 10.0.1 from Adobe Reader 9.  Since the upgrade, the reports render to the screen fine for print previews, and the PDF files on disk are fine if you open them up - however printing them via the exec command to AcroRd32.exe causes the tables in the report (containing financial information) to be garbled.
The characters all seem to be shifting up one ASCII code.  That is, every "A" in the report becomes a "B", every "1" becomes a "2", and the "," character becomes a "-".  For example, the string "ABC" prints out on the report as "BCD", and the number "1,234.00" prints out as "2-345/11".
Nothing else has changed on the client PCs or their environment except for Adobe Reader being upgraded from 9 to X.  The PCs are running a fully patched Windows XP Professional o/s.  This is software that has been run for years on many client sites over many different versions of Windows and we have never had any of these sorts of problems.
Has anyone else had this problem, and are there any fixes to it? - it is a serious problem, and is happening at our largest client site, and to be honest it is extremely disappointing reading how many problems there are with Adobe Reader X is by looking through the forums on this site.  This problem may cause us to lose our clients and is damaging our professional reputation, so we are extremely unhappy.
Note that as this is occurring on our client site we are not able to go in and test "hacked" work-arounds like turning of protected mode - as that would look extremely unprofessional.

We're experiencing the same issues but it doesn't seem to be restricted to Ad
obe Reader X. We have some users using Adobe Reader
9.x.
We're using WinXP pro Sp3; it occurs on different brands of Pc's and different brands and types of printers, HP deskjets, laserjets to Lexmark Laserjets and Kyocera Mita Laserjets.
It occurs trying to print from a pdf opened in IE or an attachment in an email. Reprinting the exact same document a second time will usually print OK. The time we've been able to duplicate the problem back to back is printing an email attachment by "Right clicking" the attachement and then clicking "print" at that point the whole document prints garbled.
Our other print outs; File > Print, usually start out OK but somewhere's down the page it prints garbled text, then reprinting will be OK. It doesn't happen all the time, just randemly.

I used to use the free version of Adobe Reader to convert my publisher files to pdf files. When I was making a booklet for our hockey team, it said I had to buy it. Now I bought it and it won't convert the files. I am ready to throw this computer out the window!! Can you tell me what is the problem? No it does not exceed 100 M. either.

Adobe Reader never converted Publisher files to PDF, for free, never. I suspect you use to have the (paid for) Adobe Acrobat. Sometimes people have Acrobat (more than $300 worth) and install Adobe Reader over the top, losing that valuable software.
That said, if you subscribed to PDF Pack it should do this conversion. What exactly happens now.

The add annotations field shows as not allowed in the security options. So how do I send this form back with the changes??

I think you you need to click 'save' first, then it is saved to acrobat, where it will prompt to send.

Adobe Reader XI did not save the form data (unlike previous versions). Any way to recover filled form with data from temp locations?
I was not aware that ctrl+s no longer works in reader and closed the PDF after savign it(with ctrl+s). However ,the data is lost and there seems to be no way to recover it.
I cannot find any temp files created by Reader on my system.
Also to my surprize(and shock), the reader did not even show a warning before closing the PDF. Does anybody know if/where can I recover the file from?
Guys, Please reply ASAP if you have got any sort of solution!

    Hi Pat,
Are you using Adobe Reader XI? And not Acrobat. It does not ask me to save the form if there are unsaved changes.
I have used previous versions of reader for saving this form data and it did allow me to save it with ctrl+s. And those versions did prompt me to save the changes before closing.
I guess I should not have updated the reader.

  • Does Adobe Reader have the plug-in to display the word definition when moving mouse over the word?

    Hi,
I would like to know if Adobe Reader has such plug-in that displays the word definition when the user moves the mouse over the word.
Basically I think it needs to
detect what word is presented under the cursor
look up the word in the dictionary or source file e.g.xml
pop up the definition of the word, which can be a translation or definition
It would be great if user can actually customize this dictionary file/source file.
Do you think there is such plug-in?
Many thanks for your help/advice here.
    Cheers
    SX

    Hi,
When I use Adobe Reader “look up” function, it takes me to dictionary.com. I am wondering if Adobe Reader allows me to customize this look up function, so I can use another website or my offline dictionary, instead of going to dictionary.com.
    Many thanks for your help/advice.

  • Adobe Reader 9 can't detect corrupted files?

I have a program that checks whether a pdf file is corrupted by opening the file using Adobe Reader and detecting any errors raised by it.
We recently upgraded to using Adobe Reader 9 from Adobe Reader 6. Now, the program can't detect some corrupted files if I don't check each file per page.
I think this is because th newer versions of Adobe Reader load pdf files on demand instead of loading the whole file upon opening.
Is there a setting or command line parameter I can use to force Adobe Reader 9 to load whole pdf files upon opening them?

The application doesn't actually integrate with Adobe Reader, it just opens it by calling it with the command line and using the filename as a parameter. The application only checks if the Reader's window raised an error.

  • Adobe Reader 11.0.05 won't always display the GUI when opening PDF?!

I have come across some odd behaviour with Adobe Reader 11.0.05. In particular, the following issues seem to have surfaced since upgrading to 11.x from 9.x.
Opening a PDF from any application, launches an "AcroRd32.exe" process but the GUI is not shown i.e. you don't see a Reader window or PDF. If you try open the PDF again it will launch another instance of that process and still won't show the GUI. Killing all AcroRd32.exe processes via Task Manager and re-opening the PDF will then work.
Some users are experiencing the following error when opening PDFs via IE and other 3rd party apps.
We've deployed 11.0.05 across a few thousand 32-bit Windows 7 PCs and it's a little concerning that PDFs won't always open. At this stage it is very random, maybe 1 out of 5 times it won't show the GUI but launch the process. Our only workaround is to advise users to kill all AcroRd32.exe processes and try again.
Our packaged 11.0.05 was created as follows:
AIP created from 11.0 msi > AIP patched with 11.0.04 msp (Q) > AIP patched with 11.0.05 msp (OOC). Transform was created using Adobe Customization Wizard 11.
Oddly, this does not occur using Adobe Reader 9.5.5 (or other versions of 9.x).
Sounds like 11.x is buggy, anyone else experiencing the same issues??
    Thanks!

Yes, I am always having problems. Microsoft fixed the problem for me but it has reverted back to a trial I downloaded. I can't access my PDF at all.

Please help, My Mac will not open when I rtry to download something from the internet, a box with foreign language appears in the textbox?

I have seen this a couple of times over the last few days here in the forum; the Reader 11.0.7 plugin for Mac displays the message in Japanese.  Here is the English translation.
Before viewing PDF documents in this browser you must launch Adobe Reader and accept the End User License Agreement then quit and relaunch the browser.
Do it, and the message will disappear.

  • Adobe Reader 10.1.3 does not recognize the windows vista installed printer

I am using the latest version of Adobe Reader. When I print I get a message box that says you must install a printer driver. I have a printer installed in Windows Vista Home Premium that works ok with all other programs.  Any ideas?

All updates applied to ver 10.1.10.  Same problem - does not recognize the network printer.  When I first installed this version and the Software License Agreement displayed it allowed me to access the printer dialog and print the form. When I open a pdf document after this it does not recognize that there isa printer installed.  Any ideas??? This is getting vdery frustating.  The only good news is that foxit works.

  • Adobe Reader plugin on Intel iMac... menu bar gone when viewing pdf?!?!?

I had Adobe Reader 7.0.5 on my iMac G5 and when I clicked on a pdf file, it opened in a new window with a menu bar at the top. Since migrating to my Intel iMac yesterday, the menu bar is gone though pdf pages display... just with blank space where the menu used to be. I downloaded v7.0.8 and installed and the same problem. I have the prefs set to view pdf files in Safari and, again, they view... just no menu bar! Any idea how to fix this?

As far as I know, Adobe Reader (even v7.0.8) isn't Universal yet, which means it [the plugin] probably won't run natively on your Intel iMac unless you run Safari under Rosetta.

  • Adobe Reader 9 and MAC 10.5 xml data submit problem

I have an issue that only happens when using Adobe Reader 9 and Mac OSX 10.5.
When submitting a form from within a PDF, the FDF that gets sent is completely blank.
Tested on Mac OSX 10.4 with Adobe Reader 9 - no issue
Tested on Mac OSX 10.5 with Adobe Reader 8 - no issue
Tested on Mac OSC 10.5 with Adobe Professional 8 - no issue
It only seems to be a combination of OSX 10.5 and Reader 9. Does anyone have any clue about the settings of these two and what might be happening?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

We have encountered the same problem with Mac OSX 10.5 and Reader 9 when submitting a form as PDF. Form is certified and reader extended, working great on Windows machine.
    Seems like a bug..

  • Adobe Reader XI 11.0.10 "there were no pages selected to print"?

Help, I came into the office this morning and need to print forms for a client...and I can't print!  I got the message that "There were no pages selected to print".  How can I fix this?

    Hi Scott,
I am so sorry for the inconvenience caused, lets try to resolve your issue.
Try the "Print as Image" option. Click the Advanced button in the Print dialog box to find this option. Maybe that specific PDF is not well formed.
Please refer to this KB doc. in order to troubleshot the issue Troubleshoot PDF printing | Acrobat, Reader

    Hello
Search the Oracle Reports Online help for "Printer Code Before" :
    Printer Code Before property
Printer Codes are references to printer escape sequences that define special printing instructions (for example, special font sizes or highlighting) for the object. The Printer Code Before property specifies the printer escape sequence to be executed before each line of the object. The printer escape sequences are inserted after the object is triggered to print but before it has actually printed.

  • Character's format change when printing email

Wireless printing from my iPad is perfect. One small problem: when I print an incoming or outgoing email, the printed result is in much langer (bold) characters for the body of the Text, while the healing ('from', 'subject', 'date'...) remains the same.
    Can this be avoided?

    Hello @walterke,
    Welcome to the HP forums.
I understand that when you print an email from your iPad the characters printed are not in the same format as on the devices display.  I would like to help.
If you are using the built in Airprint feature to print your emails, then it can't be avoided.
The iPad is using a generic print driver that is meant to work with the majority of printers.
If you would like to make adjustments to your printouts, try the HP ePrint app.
