Adobe Reader X 10.1.4 overtakes most of my icons

I had to uninstall Adobe reader X 10.1.4 because it makes most of the icons for most of my programs look like Adobe icons and makes them unusable.  I uninstalled it and then re-installed it with the same problem.  I ran a virus scan with Adobe uninstalled and there were no problems.  The icons look normal, too, without Adobe Reader.  I have windows Vista operating system.  How can I use Adobe Reader and not have this problem?

    Hi lawalton,
Please tell me a bit more--what happens when you try to open your files in Reader? Are you getting an error message? Do they open, but don't display correctly?
I look forward to hearing back from you so we can get this mystery sorted out.

  • Why do I have to reboot my computer in order to install the most recent version of adobe reader??

Why do I have to reboot my computer in order to install the most recent version of adobe reader??
After installing the most recent version of adobe reader, a prompt popped up, asking me to reboot my computer to complete installation. Why is it asking me to do this? Is it safe? And (if so,) how should I go about doing this??

I don't know why - I never had to restart my computer after installing any Adobe updates.

  • Problem opening pdf files with Adobe Reader in Windows 7

I bought a new Dell (Inspiron 5110) with pre-installed Windows 7 Home Premium (Version 6.1 SP1, 64 bit) and pre-installed Adobe Reader X (10.1.1). I cannot open ANY of my old pdf files with the Adobe reader (even after I re-installed the Adobe Reader). On another computer with Windows 7 I get the same error message. When I installed several other pdf-readers (Sumatra, Foxit, ..) I can still not open the pdf's -- but all the pdf's still open under Windows XP on my old computer and they also open on all my colleagues' non-Windows 7 computers. So it appears to be a Windows 7 problem. The Adobe error message says 'Adobe Reader could not open _.pdf because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (…..).
N.B.: I can download pdf files from the internet and can then open these 'new' pdf files with Adobe Reader X.
N.B.2.: Most of the 'old' pdf files are scientific articles downloaded from various journal websites 2002-2011, so their quality should be out of question.
N.B.3.:I've transfered the files via memory stick and portable HD.
N.B.4.: If I try to open the pdf's via 'Open with' the problem remains the same.
N.B.5.: When, on my Win7 Dell, I've uploaded/attached one of these old pdf files to an email the rtecipient could not tead it. But he could read it when I'd sent the same file from my old Win XP computer.
N.B.6.: I have repeated this last observation: When I upload an old pdf file on my Win7 Dell to my email account and then send it to myself, I cannot open/read it on my Win XP (nor on the Dell, of course). Although the file size is precisely the same.
N.B.7.: When I download a new pdf on my Dell, then upload/attach it to an email also on the Dell and send it to myself, I can download and read the attached pdf on both computers.
Would be grateful for any suggestions.

    This is really strange.
Please correct me if I am wrong, but from what I can understand, any PDF which is launched on your Win 7 OS fails to open, even though the same file works perfectly fine on your Win XP machine?
Could you please run a full system anti virus scan on the said PDFs that are present on your local system. It could be a case of infected PDFs.
Also, it would be great if you could try and download some of the erroneous PDFs from the web again, and see if you experience the same behavior.
    Thanks
    Ankit

Just the printing has a problem.

Now just to stop the flaming-   i have no issues with any other programs that i have loaded on this computer ( and i have some programs that use alot of the available resources)  and no i dont use these programs when i use the adobe reader x. I allready disabled most features trying to get adobe x working and nothing seems to help.  just the new version of adode reader x.  i have uninstalled this version and downloaded the older version, this version works without a problem.   if there is a fix to this please let me know, and i would gladly install the new version..

Is that happening with the browser plugin (what browser, b.t.w.), or you open the PDF in the separate Reader window?
When that happens, are you able to open Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del) to see if any processes use very high CPU or memory?

  • Adobe Reader will not save or show the Save dialog

Hello, we use adobe reader a lot where I work, mostly with filling out pre-made "Form" type PDF's and saving them in customer folders on the server, as of last friday my adobe reader will not allow me to save pdf's, I have attempted to edit and save, edit and save-as, I tried simply saving as without making any edits. I also tried to open a PDF online (specifically http://www.ncu.edu.tw/~ncu25352/Uploads/201312311030531151830864.pdf ), tested that PDF on another PC and it would allow me to save it.
I uninstalled Adobe reader 11 and reinstalled from the website ( get.adobe.com/reader ), I then uninstalled anything on the pc that relates to PDF's that I could find (which was just reader and a dictionary add-in for reader 9) and attempted to reinstall without any change in the problem.
To recap, PDF's will not save, and when I click save-as no save dialog pops up, I cannot save via the IE add-in either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated by both my boss and myself!

You mention IE, so I assume that you are on Windows.
How are you trying to save that PDF, using the IE menu bar File Save as, or the floating toolbar in the Adobe Reader plugin?

Start menu, control panel, programs and features, highlight Adobe Reader, select uninstall, follow prompts, reboot (not entirely necessary but wouldn't hurt), install better PDF reader such as Foxit or PDF X-Change Viewer.
Or Nitro (have you tried it?) it's worth looking at.

  • Adobe Reader App- Nexus 7

I have a NEXUS 7 with ADOBE READER installed. Previously when I tapped a PDF icon file a dialog box would open a give me a choice of which APP to use. (Adobe or Think Free). I always chose ADOBE. However, now it seems that the THINK FREE has taken over and is the default PDF viewer. I contacted Google support and they told me to unistall the ADOBE READER and then reinstall it. No that didn't work. If I open the Adobe reader app only the RECENT files show up and none of the other never opened PDF files are listed. How do I open a PDF file in a specific folder. There is no dialog and OPEN file (like on a PC). I moved my fingers all over the place and nothing happens. Now what's worse is that the THINK FREE app can't be unistalled because it doesn't show up in the APPS list. It might be part of the Nexus OS? So the real question is .... How do I open a specific PDF file on the NEXUS 7 without tapping on the file icon which triggers the other app?

When you try to open the downloaded file, do you see a black screen? There was an issue which we have fixed at our end and the new reader version with the fix would be in the play store soon. If it is some other issue could you please send us the details of the workflow, the actual behavior, adobe reader version and the android version on [email protected]
For your second query on automatically opening downloaded file on Adobe Reader, the feature is not yet present in Adobe Reader. We however have taken note of that and we would try to come up with the feature soon.
    Thanks.

  • Adobe Reader XI installation issue

I have installed Adobe Reader XI on my iMac but cannot find an icon anywhere to launch it. When I try to read a pdf I get a pop-up stating:
Before viewing PDF documents in this browser you must launch Adobe Reader and accept the End User License Agreement, then Quit and relaunch the browser.
How do I launch Adobe Reader if I cannot find/see the icon?

It may be worth making sure, if you haven't already, that you are looking at a list of names rather than looking at icons. Icons can hide themselves, names can't.

  • Stamp Toolbar in Adobe Reader 8

I have been unsucessful in using the stamp tool in Adobe Reader 8. I can't get the stamp icon, or toolbar, to show up. I believe that it has to do with document rights, but I am unaware of how to change/enable document rights so that I can use a scanned signature as a custom stamp.
The custom stamp is my next question. How do I create a custom stamp from the scan of my handwritten signature?
    Thank you in advance,

We want to roll out Adobe Reader v8 to all our users with a customized toolbar and hide the navigation pane to the left. Our Sys Admin looked into the Adobe Wizard tool and says she cannot locate any way we cano do this with that tool. She also contacted Adobe support to find out how this could be done and based on their recommendation, it would likely create a minor security breach as all users would need to have write access to the registry to make it work.
Is there a workaround to this; perhaps rolling out a reg entry with the deployment to make a standard toolbar and view? I would think others would be interested in doing this and you could configure something using the wizard?? Any comments?

  • I have uninstalled and reinstalled the most current edition of Adobe Reader, including the patch. When I open a PDF file, the screen is first grey, then viewable, but the message "Adobe Reader has stopped working" comes up. How do I remedy this?

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the most current edition of Adobe Reader (11.9), including the patch. When I open a PDF file, the screen is first grey, then viewable, but then the message "Adobe Reader has stopped working" comes up. How do I remedy this?

    RR,
One thing often tried first is to create a new document and File>Place the corrupted one to see how much may be rescued that way (remember to tick Paste remembers Layers in the Layer palette flyout/dropdown first, and to untick it afterwards).
Here is a website where you can see whether it can rescue the file, and if it can, you may pay for a subscription to have it done,
    http://www.recoverytoolbox.com/buy_illustrator.html
    and another similar website,
    http://markzware.com/adobe-software/fix-illustrator-file-unknown-error-occurred-pdf2dtp-fi le-recovery/
As far as I remember, the former is for Win and the latter for Mac.
Here are a few pages about struggling with it yourself:
    http://daxxter.wordpress.com/2009/04/16/how-to-recover-a-corrupted-illustrator-ai-file/
    http://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/troubleshoot-damaged-illustrator-files.html
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/500/cpsid_50032.html
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/500/cpsid_50031.html
    http://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/enable-content-recovery-mode-illustrator.html
Failing a full recovery, hopefully you have one or more earlier versions and/or bits of artwork saved before it happened.

    Hello,
How can I give a answer back in the discussion on Adobe.com?
    I don’t see any link?
    1.      We have a subscription.
    2.      Im converting a newsletter from the web to PDF.
    3.      Sometimes I put a weblink behind the image in the newsletter. Most of the time PDF wont take the links behind the image.
    Only the tekstlinks are OK.

  • I have the most updated version (plugin) of Adobe Reader (10.0.1) but the plug-in checker is telling my version is outdated. What do I need to do so the plug in checker will stop warning me?

I have restarted my computer, and have re-download the updated version of the adobe acrobat and the plug in.

That doesn't help. Sorry but I am talking about the the Adobe READER PLUG-IN . The MOST updated version is : 10.0.1. There is no 10.0.3 . There is a version of adobe acrobat that is 10.0.3 but it is for Adobe acrobat PRO only- which I do not have.
The most updated version of the acrobat reader plug is in : 10.0.1 unless there is another place to download a more updated version than that- which I cant find.
Or there is a problem wiht the plug in checker by Mozilla Firefox.

  • Why do some pdf files not open with Adobe Reader X, most open OK?

On my wife's 64 bit WIN 7 computer, a some pdf files will not open, but most open OK.
She uses Acrobat Reader X and MS Office 2010.
The same problem files open with no problem on my very similar computer.
Is the problem with some setting on the Acrobat Reader or something else?
Sometimes there is this error message when the problem files do not open:
Find Click2run64.msi file to install MS Office Click to Run.
But MS Office Click to Run is already installed on her PC.  It is not on my PC.
    Thanks for your help.

The latest Reader is 11.0.01, not 11.0.1.  It is named Adobe Reader XI.
I did uninstall the Reader X and installed this latest one.
But it did not solve the problem, still could not open the problem pdf's .
I did find the problem was caused by the MS Office Click to Run error referred to in my original message.  As far as I know we have no use for that on my wife's computer. Not sure how it got there.   I uninstalled it and so far the problem pdf's open fine now.  Problem solved.
    Thanks for your help.
