Adobe Reader X - 64 Bit Windows 7 compatibility Problem?

On a 2 mo. old HP computer I recently removed all files related to trial Norton software and installed free AVIRA software. Now, pdf documents cannot be viewed at web sites. AVIRA scan reports two findings; WARNING: unsupported Archive Version AcroRd 32.exe and WARNING: Program File (x86)\Kobo\libzip-Vc9.dll Archive Header is damaged. I do think that there is an incompatibility between 32. exe and the Windows 7 64 bit program but unsure if the second warning is connected. Re downloading Adobe Reader X had not corrected this. My computer knowledge is very weak. What needs to be done? Thank you, WmRM.

Nah, this sounds like Norton has damaged your file handlers and messed with your DLLs. The long and short answer is, that you need/ should seriously consider reinstalling your operating system from scratch. Such issues have a way of being sticky like dog pooh and anything you could do without a reinstall is only even more convoluted...

  • Adobe reader 9.1 has encountered a problem and needs to close

How many other ADOBE subscribers have suffered the same frustrations as we have?
Over the last 4 days and numerous hours of frustration installing and uninstalling ADOBE 9.1 [and 7.1 and 8.1.3] to resolve the unknown cause of the current Adobe message - ."Adobe reader 9.1 has encountered a problem and needs to close" ..... without identifying the problem..... or its' cause.
Numerous error reports were forwarded to Adobe, but without response!
Unable to converse/communicate with anyone at Adobe Technical Support, it was suggested that we review Adobe Forums to see if anyone else was having similar UNKNOWN problems.  Sure enough we found many subscribers [probably hundreds] suffering the same frustrations during the downloading of 9.1 upgrade AND former upgrades. We also found a band-aid solution to the UNLNOWN Adobe problem - at the suggestion of others we created and logged into a new account - a nuisance, but it works..... so far!
It makes you wonder if ADOBE ever reads what's going on.  If they did, perhaps they good avert the problem/s and prevent service/subscriber discontent.
We certainly don't intend to ever download another Adobe upgrade!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The "Adobe Reader X.x has encountered a problem and needs to close" has been up very many times and a variety of solutions has been suggested.
    (If necessary to do a re-install then un-install and turn off protection-programs + re-boot - check the stayed turned off - before re-installing !)

  • I have re-installed Adobe Reader on to my Windows 7 PC. When I open a PDF I was getting an error message containing  . . . .Acrord32.exe application error . . . . I now cannot open any PDF's. Adobe seems to be unresponsive.

I have re-installed Adobe Reader on to my Windows 7 PC. When I open a PDF I was getting an error message containing  . . . .Acrord32.exe
I now cannot open any PDF's and Adobe seems unresponsive. I have tried to follow a step by step guide on how to fix this but Adobe won't stay open long enough for me to complete the steps. When I open Adobe it stays open for a matter of seconds then minimises to the task bar and when I click on it again I can't do anything with it and have to close it via task manager
    Please help!?

Disabling Protected Mode should fix the problem.  But since you cannot even open Adobe Reader by itself, you need to do it via the Windows registry.  If you tell me your installed Reader version, I can give you a registry script to do that.

  • Help! - Error: Adobe Reader 8.1 has encountered a problem and needs to close.(5/07/08)

When I download and install Adobe Reader 8.1.2 the final installation messages says it was a successful installation. All looks good, but when I try to open it I get the error message:
Adobe Reader 8.1 has encountered a problem and needs to close.
I have uninstalled and re-installed several times, but with the same result.
I have Windows XP Pro, plenty of free disc space and memory.
I used to have Adobe Reader 7, and it worked perfectly. I inadvertently uninstalled it, and wish I could re-install it but that download doesnt seem available.
    Attempts to fix:
    Cleaned disc and de-fragmented.
    Disabled antivirus software.
    Ideas anyone?
    Thanks, Jeff

  • Unable to uninstall adobe reader 8.16 on windows xp

I wanted to uninstal adobe reader 8 after finding I could use adobe reader 9, I uninstalled adobe reader and ended up having to restore my system after a server problem with the new software putting adobe 8 back. I tried to uninstall it again after switching off the machine for a while for the serer to recover, I still cant uninstall 8 even after installing adobe reader 9.

I tried on the day to navigate the adobe site on dial up, adobe should cater to people on a budget if they are going to service us with a free reader. Personally I would prefer another program to decode a pdf document that does just that - without all the other stuff I will never use. Today I found I may be able to uninstall adobe 8 by running kb404307, I couldn't even find a download page for the fix. Once again I got frustrated with my pc and adobe.

  • Adobe Reader want open - 'Adobe Reader 9.4 has encountered a problem and needs to close'

    Hello,
Idesperatelly need a help with this. Adobe Reader simply can't open and I have over and over the same information 'Adobe Reader 9.4 has encountered a problem and needs to close.' Obviously there is error raport created for this problem and the help I have from Microsoft is absolutelly useless. I already uninstall all acrobate and adobe programs and install adobe reader again, but nothing change. Now I stuck with some different program as temporary solution and no solution for this problem. Please if anybody have idea how to solve it... Pls heeelp!!!!

After 3 uninstall's and 3re-installs for AR 9.4 and no solutions forthcoming from the AR tech's/personnel, I have decided to go with another PDF reader that seems to be working fine.  Please remove me from your e-mail listing.  I tried but not successful as I still receive mail from Adobe about problems not even related to mine. During my search at adobe, I found many users with the same problem but no fix available.  You would think that a update correcting these product would be in order.  So again, remove me from the AR e-mail list.  TU

  • Adobe Reader 8.0 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience

Ver 8 installed fine but can't get it to launch from any application. Have tried going back to earlier versions (6.1,6.2,7) but the same problem occurs.
    Same error message each time:
"Adobe Reader 8.0 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"
    AppName: acrord32.exe AppVer: 8.0.0.456 ModName: acrord32.dll
    ModVer: 8.0.0.456 Offset: 00020916
Tried every troubleshooting tip in the Support Knowledgebase to no avail.
Have been using Reader for years with never any problems and now I can't seem to get this fixed after numerous hours.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Is there a free support line I can call or is it paid support only?
    Thanks,
    Dee

Like others my problem was Adobe Reader 8.1.2 died terribly and with a buggy stench with the following error:
    AppName: acrord32.exe AppVer: 8.1.0.137 ModName: msvcr70.dll
    ModVer: 7.0.9466.0 Offset: 000013d6
    RESOLUTION ON XP SP2
    1. Control Panel, Users
    2. Create a new user account NewUser (for example)
    3. Start, Log Off
    4. Switch Users to the NewUser
    5. Wait the mini eternity for new user to be set up.
    6. Start Adobe Acrobat 8.1.2 and you will see a red splash screen along with some license updating things.
    7. Adobe 8.1.2 now starts fine under NewUser
    8. Switch back to your regular user name. Start, Log off, Switch Users
Now a note to Adobe. Do you folks really have to make this such a frickin pain to get working? Do you at Acrobat have any idea of how much time we users blow and how much of our lives pass by while we try to re-download and work with this product? You are directly responsible for a small slow down in the world economy by this. Get the hint.... create an 8.1.3 that omits the secret code steps above.
The only thing that kept my sanity during this were nice songs on channel 86 on SIRIUS. Thank you SIRIUS.
    Thanks,
    Jim
