Adobe Reader X crashes in Win XP SP3

I installed the Adobe Reader X yesterday and it opends the file normally but after that whenever I close the .pdf file the reader starts itself automatically and crashes. The first error message is about Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library and when pressed OK overthere it gives AcorMissingCompWClass error. Worse this process keep continue. Again and again reader X start itself and crashes with two errors messages.
I have to unintall to get rid of this mess.
Any solution.

Adobe Reader X is pure garbage. I've wasted a lot of time uninstalling it on all my computers. Now I have to waste more time to stop Adobe from hounding me that there are newer versions of it's worthless software out there.
Once I stop this bleeding then I will look for an alternative to Adobe Reader and take my business elsewhere.

I would try deleting the program and download it again. Perhaps some part of it didn't download when you originally downloaded it.

Thanks.  I've posted there as well.  Anyone know if there's a workaround to keep reader from crashing with this form, or is my only option to roll back the servers until the creator of the form updates it?
(I have notified their webmaster of the issue, but who knows how long it will take the state to update the form.)

  • How do I stop Adobe Reader from crashing on my unprivileged user?

I am running Windows 7 and I needed to create an unprivileged user on my computer. When I open a PDF file, it almost instantly crashes (I can view the document for about three seconds). If I simply open Adobe Reader without a PDF and click Edit -> Preferences, it crashes. If I open a PDF in any browser, it crashes.
From what I have been able to surmise, it seems that Adobe Reader is trying to read the registry of my privileged user. I have tried uninstalling Adobe Reader, temporarily giving privileges to my unprivileged user, installing Adobe Reader on that user, and then remove the permissions, but the crash still occurs. The only way to stop Adobe Reader from crashing is to start the program as an administrator or change the account type to administrator. How do I stop Adobe Reader from crashing on my unprivileged user?

It said "Adobe Reader has stopped working" soon after I opened it, but I was still able to scroll down the document. It was only once I pressed Close Program that it stopped working.
Upon trying it a second time, it immediately stopped letting me scroll down when the program crashed. Here is the error log, I receive the exact same exception code every time:

  • Files for Adobe Reader Cause Crash

Every time I try to open a file for adobe reader, whether I get it embedded in my browser or download it from the internet either Safari crashes or Adobe Reader application crashes no matter what it is. I switched to firefox because Safari kept unexpectedly quitting constantly and it was becoming so frequent that I couldn't even do anything. Any advice on how to get the adobe reader plugin for safari to work(which i did install)? Or how to get any files to work? My friend has this same problem on her iBook, too.

    Hello David:
First, I would trash the Safari preference file (com.apple.safari.plist) and restart. Then I would uninstall the current Adobe reader you have installed (get all of it) and then download the latest version from the Adobe web site. FWIW, I have no trouble at all with either safari or reading PDF files.

  • Adobe Reader keeps crashing on iPad Air

Not sure if this has already been mentioned by others but my adobe reader keeps crashing every time I pull up any power points since the last update. It is really frustrating since I have so many power points on it from school saved with notes. Is there any way this can be fixed or it in the processed of being fixed in the next update? I have the iPad Air with the latest iOS software. Thank you!

This is not a problem that we have seen or that others have reported. Can you please share one of the files you are opening by emailing it to [email protected]?
    Thanks!

  • Hi, Adobe Reader XI crashes when I try to connect to a pdf online.

Hi, Can anyone help, please? Adobe reader XI crashes when I connect to a pdf online. Pre-saved ones still read correctly. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Reader, and reset google chrome, but the problem is still there! What can I try next???

Chrome uses its own PDF viewer, not the Adobe Reader plugin; see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/pdf-browser-plugin-configuration.html

  • Adobe Reader XI crashes while sending message to it

    Hi,
I found Adobe Reader XI crashes while recieving windows message ( sent from SendMessage api) from another exe. same things used to work fine with Adobe Reader X.
    Any Idea to fix this?
    Regards,
    Arvind

No knowledge of the problem, but I'd suggest trying to isolate the problem.
Can you find a single specific Windows message that will reliably crash Reader XI? If so, what are the message parameters in full?

  • Adobe Reader XI Crashes

I'm having problems getting adobe reader to work, I tried upgrading to version XI but still no joy, trying to run the program from the desktop shortcut or trying to open a PDF file gives the following error:
Adobe Reader has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconveniece.
    AppName: acrord32.exe  AppVer: 11.0.3.37  ModName: vroe_hook.dll
    ModVer: 1.0.0.1  Offset: 00008ba2
I have tried un-installing and re-installing; also all old versions of Reader have been removed.
    PC is running:
    XP Home Edition with SP3
I know theres another post on this forum with someone having the same problem on a previous version, however I thought it best I open my own thread to stand a better chance of getting a response.
    Thanks in advance.

Found a folder in the program files folder for goto software, the program is called Vade Retro, ran the uninstaller from this folder and now Adobe reader no longer crashes.  The program was not listed in the start menu or add/remove programs.

  • Adobe Reader 9 crashing PC when printing - BSOD

When I try to print from Adobe Reader 9 (version 9.1.3), it crashes my PC - the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH!!
My PC:  Dell Optiplex 755 with very fast Intel 2 Duo Core chip, 2GB of RAM (of which 1.4GB is usually free), WinXPPro SP3 with all updates, good anti-virus and anti-spyware -- a very good, fast, clean machine.
My Printer:  HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 Wireless, new six months ago and generally very good.
So I have UNinstalled Adobe Reader 9 and gone back to Adobe Reader 8.  Printed from it once this morning and saw no problem.
    Any thoughts?

480 what RAM? Megabytes, Gigabytes? How about free hard drive space? Have you checked your computer for a virus? They can cause all sorts of issues. Assuming you are virus free can you turn off your virus checker and see if that has any effect?

  • Can't download Adobe Reader - IE8 crashes

    Hi,
I am astonished that something as simple as downloading a file isn't simple.   Anyway, the problem I seem to experience is that IE8 crashes (or appears to crash) when trying to download Adobe Reader.   I had a very similar problem today with trying to download Adobe Flash.
I don't know what to do aside from looking at other options (non-Adobe reader on the internet).
I have a fresh install of Windows XP Pro with SP3.  I'm using IE8.
I wonder if it is possible to get Adobe Reader using an ftp connection.
    David

This might work (a free pdf reader by Foxit):
    http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/reader/
I downloaded Foxit's free pdf reader and had it up and running in less than 5 minutes.   By comparison I've been struggling with trying to download the Adobe Reader (and Flash player) all day today (spent the day reading forum posts).
Now, I just need a replacement for flash.
Just for the record, I never would have switched to something else if it were possible for me to download Flash and Adobe reader.  It is beyond me why a company as large as Adobe cannot find a simplistic way to deliver an installation file.  It's perplexing and frustrating.   But, at least I found an alternative.

  • Adobe Reader XI Crash On Commenting

    Hello,
I have a problem with commenting on adobe reader xi (freshly installed, so 11.0.06).
I can open and read pdfs. However, when I open the comment tab adobe crashes and the pdf closes. As you might imagine, this is very frustrating!
    System: Windows 8.1
    Frequency: every single time
Is there anything else I can provide? I would really like to fix this.
    Thanks,
    ZippityD
Edit: If I cancel that initial "reading" or whatever it is adobe prompts me for when opening a document, it didn't crash immediately. Not sure what this means.

Try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
