Adobe Reader X install on a workstation with Adobe Acrobat

I need to deploy Adobe Reader X to all users in our org (10,000+).  However, when testing the MSI on a machine with a previous version of Adobe Acrobat installed, Adobe Reader X becomes the default PDF handler.  I have made a change to the MST using the Customzation Wizard.  I have tried entering DEFAULT_VERB=OPEN in my command line.  I have edited the MSI directly using InstallShield.  In all cases, after the install Adobe Reader X is the default PDF handler.
This is unacceptable.  In previous versions, all that was necessary was to use the Customization Wizard and set the option to make Acrobat the default if it was installed.  The only valid option now is "Installer will decide which product will be the default."  I cannot deploy this application this way.  It makes no sense to have a user that has Acrobat installed to use Reader for opening PDF's!!!
Please assist.

Please see this link for an explanation of the value of co-installs, and the rationale for the PDF switcher registry keys.
In the Acrobat X Family, the DEFAULT_VERB parameter is replaced with IW_DEFAULT_VERB, values being "Read" (uses Reader) or "Open" (uses Acrobat). You can also set LEAVE_PDFOWNERSHIP="YES" to keep whatever existing handlers are registered (if none, the installer will claim them).

I don't know what this means.  All I can suggest that you try updating your old Reader version to the latest (10.1.9 or 11.0.6).

  • Can't get adobe reader to install on my new laptop with windows 8

I can't get adobe reader to install onto my new laptop with windows 8. Basically what happens is that I start the download from the adobe screen by clicking the yellow download button, then I click run (I've also tried save and run), then I allow the program to make changes to my hard drive, and then finally a blank grey box appears in the in the middle of the screen, titled "adobe reader installer". After this box appears nothing else happens. I've let it sit for at least 30 minutes and still nothing. I've also disabled my pop up blocker, and set the security settings to default as suggested in other posts. Unfortunately this is the only pdf program that works for the site we have to use to write contracts, so I need to get this figured out asap. Thanks in advance for any help and advice.

    Try installing from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise

My computer is infected with Adware.  I deleted Adobe Reader thinking it might have the adware in it.  Since the problem started the same day as Adobe Reader was installed.  Reader wasn't the problem.  So how do I get Reader reinstalled?
And if anyone knows how to delete WebProtect ads, please let me know.  It's actually getting worse.

    Hi frostedinsilver,
I'm sorry to hear that. What a hassle.
You can download Reader from www.adobe.com/products/reader.html.

You can extract pages with Adobe Acrobat, not Adobe Reader.

  • MAC Adobe Illustrator CS3 cannot be installed because it conflicts with Adobe Illustrator CS3

    Model Name:iMac / Processor Name:Intel Core 2 Duo / Memory:4 GB
When I installed Illustrator CS3 at the first time, I didn't complete it and closed it. While I installed it again, it said "Adobe Illustrator CS3 cannot be installed because it conflicts with Adobe Illustrator CS3". I was be stopped on this step, so I deleted the Illustrator CS3 from Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers without clicking it to uninstall. And I deleted other Illustrator CS3 files. After that, I tried to reinstall Illustrator CS3 again, but it kept to say "Adobe Illustrator CS3 cannot be installed because it conflicts with Adobe Illustrator CS3".
I cannot find any Illustrator in my MAC. What is wrong? How can I install Illustrator again? Should I format the computer and install all the applications again?

On the Adobe site probably under support do a search for Adobe CS 3 Clean Up Script.
Before running the script read the instructions al the instructions first, do not assume you understand from reading the first sentence. There are some files that are not so obvious that are necessary for activation and they are probably still around but they can only be removed by the script.
Next time you will have to read the instructions.
The only other ways around this is the do an archival reinstall of your system or if that does not work a complete reinstall of your system. Running the script is the easier and better way to do this but you must read the instructions completely first.

  • Adobe Reader XI installed but "Not Found"

I have Adobe Reader XI installed and apparently running normally. Unfortunately the UK's Parcelforce web-site says it can't find it.
I get the message " Adobe Acrobat NOT found. You must have Adobe Reader (5 or better) with the browser plugin properly working"
Can anyone help me please? How can I tell if "the browser plugin is properly working" ?

In IE11 use Tools | Manage Add-ons, then show All Add-ons.  Do you see the Adobe PDF Reader add-on, and is it enabled?

  • Checking if Adobe Reader is installed

    Hi,
We are dynamically creating PDF pages and having errors if
    Adobe Reader is
not installed on the computer. What is the best way to handle
    this?
Is there a way to check whether Adobe Reader is installed or
    not before
    creating the PDF page?
    Please let me know.
    YC

Well, the page opens a new window with the PDF format, but if
    there is no
Adobe Reader installed, it's trying to download the original
    "cfm" page
    instead of the "pdf."

  • How do i install adobe reader without installing products from google.

i dont like google, i dont like a bunch of worthless taskbars crowding my browser. so how do i install adobe reader without installing google products when you dont even give me the chance to say i dont want them?
It is unethical to force onto people products of any nature that they do not want. i do not want google products so by your installation for adobe reader automatically installing google products without my consent is unethical.

I don't understand the "forcing" part; the bundled software is clearly optional, and can be unchecked before the download.
Or using the download link that Michael provided earlier (which is posted at least a dozen times every day in this forum).
