Adobe Reader X prints large black spots in large documents

I have a user with Windows XP SP3 and Adobe Reader X.  When he prints a catalog with images, it randomly prints large black spots throughout the document.  If I print one of the individual pages that had black spots, it prints fine.  Are there any known issues that would cause this or does anyone have any suggestions?  He is printing to a Toshiba eStudios 5520c copier.  No one else has the problem printing to this printer but, he is the only one using Adobe Reader to print catalogs to this printer.  Everyone else printing catalogs to this printer use at least Adobe Pro of some version (the versions differ between users).  I have increased the size of the page file and reinstalled the printer driver.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks for providing the information.
Could you please try and reinstall the printer driver on this user's machine and see if it solves the issue.
Also, do all PDFs with images produce the same output from this user's machine?
Would it be possible for you to share any such PDF? I have sent you my email address as a Private Message.

My flat-screen 9-year-old i-mac has suddenly developed a large black spot in the middle at the very top of the screen. It does not appear to have overheated. The problems started with a funny black ridge along the bottom of the screen and then turned into the current spot at the top. I turned to computer off for a few days, but that did not seem to solve the problem. many thanks.

Apparently your screen has partially failed.  This is a hardware problem and needs a tech to repair it.

    Hi,
after installing Adobe Reader X  I cannot print any other paper format than A4 to my HP designjet Plotter 750c (E/A0).
Changing Paper Format in printer driver has no effekt in the printing dialog of Adobe Reader X.
Printing from Adobe Reader X to my other Printer Ricoh MPC2050 I can change between A5 to A3 without Problems.
With the old version Adober Reader 9.xx this was no problem and I could print all paper formats HP750c Plotter supports.
Adobe Reader X runs hier on a Windows XP system. Other software like autocad works well with HP750c Plotter with als supported paper formats.
HP Plotter Designjet 750c driver for Windows XP has version 4.65 (latest german version on HP website)
Has anybody any Ideas, where there ist the Problem?

I have just found this post and am still experiencing this problem, still, even after updating to 10.1, and still trying the disabling of Protected Mode at startup. I am running Windows 7, 32bit version. I am trying to print to an HP 4500 series plotter, on ARCH size D (24x36). Once I set all of my settings and hit print, I receive two dialogue boxes. One says "The document could not be printed." Once you click "OK", a second box pops up that says, "There were no pages selected to print." However, under "Print Range", I had "All" selected.
All worked fine before updating to Acrobat X.
Thank you in advance for your help.

  • Adobe Reader Cannot Print or Update

Has anyone been able to figure out how to get Adobe Reader to print in Leopard? I have a clean install of Leopard 10.5.8 and I ran the Adobe installer from the website. For some reason the installer installs 9.1.0, even though they are up to 9.1.3 now. I run the automatic update on Adobe and it says the installation failed because the program has been modified since I installed it originally. So the version I'm running is 9.1.1. I even tried manually installing the 9.1.2 update and it still fails. It says to try uninstalling and reinstalling. I cannot locate an uninstaller on the Adobe website, so I manually deleted the program and the Application support files and preferences files, and did a clean install again. Same problem. The worst part is that 9.1.1 cannot print files, presumably due to a bug that they hopefully fixed by 9.1.3. Whenever I try to print it just says the document could not be printed and then it says no pages were selected to be printed (whether I tell it to print all pages or select pages). Anyone find a solution to this problem. Big problem if Adobe Reader cannot print!

Unfortunately, Adobe does not see fit to provide any direct support for Reader. Another fine standard set for the world of customer service.
I did find something buried in the middle of a very long thread after trying the various other fixes listed there:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/1771565#1771565
It looks like this is another example of sloppy coding and case-sensitive vs. case-insensitive file systems. I found out several weeks back that this is why I my CS wasn't working, either. While I could solve that problem with a case-insensitive disk image, this doesn't work for Reader9, which only allows installation on the startup disk. This is also the reason why I couldn't update past 9.1, as this thread details:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2086122#2086122
When I "fixed" those filenames, I was able to update to 9.1.3, but now I could no longer open the file I need for my grant submission.
Long story short, I used carbon copy cloner to clone onto a case-INsensetive external disk. I'm now booted off that, was able to install & upgrade reader to 9.1.3. I can now open my key file and I can print and even open the preferences within Reader.

  • How can I print in black/white only a document that has colors in the original?

How can I print in black/white only a document that has colors in its original. I don't need the print out to be in color, and I don't want to waste the color ink.

It depends on your printer and the application you are using.
In some applications you can choose color vs. greyscale/black&white when you do File > Print.   PowerPoint is one example of an application that allows this choice.
Otherwise, you can usually select greyscale at the time you print the document.  Do File > Print. In the resulting dialog box, there should be an item called Copies & Pages (in Word and other applications) or Preview (in Preview).  Click it.  In the resulting list, you should then see an option called Printer Features.  Click it.  Then you should see an option called Printout Mode.  Usually one of the modes is Greyscale or Black & White.  Select it.  Then Print.
This can also depend on your printer.  Exactly what make/model printer are you using?   And what kind of document are you trying to print (Word, PPT, JPEG, etc)?

In adobe reader app on iPad, I have a PDF document that added notes and comments to.  Once I left the document and returned to it, the notes and comments were gone.  Where are they?  I clicked "save" and "done" buttons after I entered text.

The application auto-saves your input when you close the document.  If you left the document, as you state, the notes/comments should have been saved and should have been visible the next time you opened the document with the Mobile Reader (note that if you are opening the document with another app such as Apple's built in PDF Viewer, things like notes/comments may not be visible).  Also note that if you are doing an Open In... from another app (like Dropbox), the version of the document in Dropbox does not update; only the version of the document in the Mobile Reader is updated.

    Hi noswam123,
If a PDF file is password protected, the only way to open that document is with the password. You will have to get that password from the person who created the PDF.

  • Once I've saved a PDF document in Adobe Reader is there a way to add additional documents later?

Once I've saved a PDF document in Adobe Reader is there a way to add additional documents later?
If not is there a way to combine lets say 100 documents into another PDF file at once (Batch export) in PDF Pack software or do I have to add each document one by one drop and drag style?
    Thanks

What has this got to do with Photoshop?
In Acrobat Pro one can combine pdfs (Combine Files into PDF) and Photoshop (not in CS5, but again in CS6) offers File > Auromate > PDF Presentation to combine Photoshop files in one pdf.

  • Adobe reader 11 printing black text as green

I have checked accessability and the replace document colors is not checked.  For a time after I downloaded reader 11 black text printed black but today it has reverted to green.
I have also tried two other actions.  First, copied PDF document to clipboard and pasted in Word document.  Word document printed as green text.  Second, set printer to print as image.  Also printed as green text. This happens with a variety of documents from a variety of sources.  It appears the problem is with the download of the file as the attributes seem to be set in the file.  All documents appear as black text on the laptop monitor.

Could be a number of things. I had a terrible time printing a converted web page because the unicode for the text pulled a style from the web page and instructed Reader to print the text in white, even though it showed in the document as black.
What is the original source of the document?

  • Adobe Reader 11 Print Dialog

I work at a public library and am in charge of updating and maintaining our technology. We have over 20 public access computers that are open to our patrons which they can use to print documents, amongst other things. We have a Xerox Workcentre 6605 and use software from Librarica to control printing. Patrons need to print from their computer, click a confirmation box, and then ask the staff at the desk to release the prints from our manager computer.
Ever since updating to Reader 11, I occasionally see a print dialog pop up when printing a PDF that says the following:
"The default settings in Adobe Reader 11 may cause a color shift when printing PDF files. In addition, some black and white PDF documents may be printed using color and black inks and may be billed as color pages.
Before you continue printing, Xerox recommends that you change Reader 11 to allow the printer to manage colors.
To change the Reader 11 setting, close this dialog box, click the 'Advanced' button at the bottom of the Print window, and check the option 'Let printer determine colors.'"
There are a couple of options available to our patrons at this point, including "Send my document anyway" and "Don't show this message again." Whatever option is set as the default sends documents as blank pages. Most of our patrons don't know what option to pick so they go with the default, confirm their print which says ZERO PAGES, and then log off the computer. When they come tell me they sent a print, I have to tell them that it didn't go through properly and they have to try again.
I can't select the "Don't show this message again" option because we have DeepFreeze installed on all the computers so that any changes made to the computer by patrons are erased when the computer is shut down for the night...so the "Don't show this message again" option would revert back.
This is really driving me nutty. I went into the Advanced settings today with a test PDF and it looks like you have to check the option 'Let printer determine colors' for every PDF.  I have also tried recreating the problem on my own but never get the dialog. Help!!

I don't know DeepFreeze, but I imagine it's something that restores a clean disk image at regular intervals.
I also imagine that this DeepFreeze image is renewed when OS or software updates are installed.  I suggest that you change the options you mentioned ("Let printer determine colors", "Don't show this message again") after a security update to Adobe Reader is released later this week.  Let these changes go into the new DeepFreeze image, and you should be fine.

  • Adobe Reader Not Printing to a Certain Printer

I have a teacher that has a locally connected (USB) HP LaserJet 1012 printer and a networked HP LaserJet 4050 in her classroom. She has the 1012 set up as her default printer and when she needs to print large jobs she switches to the 4050. The problem is when she tries to print PDFs to the 4050, the print job still goes to the 1012. The 4050 is using the Universal Printing PCL5 V5.1 driver, although it doesn't seem to matter which version of the universal driver I choose.
When I switch from the 1012 to the 4050 in the Name dropdown in the Print window (within the Adobe Reader program), it still says hp Laser Jet 1012 in the Type field. When I click OK to print with the 4050 selected, it still prints to the 1012. It's as if Reader (Version 10.1.1) doesn't recognize the 4050. When I make the 4050 the default printer, the Status and Type fields are blank. When I click the dropdown and select the 1012 those fields populate with "Ready" and "hp Laser Jet 1012", repectively.
I'm  not sure how to resolve this problem. What I am fearing is that it has to do with the age of the 4050 printer.

    Dear user,
    Thanks for reporting the problem.
It looks like some kind of set up issue at your end and I would request you to please uninstall and then re-install both the drivers. Things are working just fine at our end.
    Thanks,

  • Can't get Adobe Reader to print statement from Scottrade on-line

I have Vista 64 bit Home Premium , Adobe Reader 9, version 9.3. When online with Windows Internet Explorer at www.scottrade .com, I go to my account, account history, account statements and select January 2010 statement to view and a popup screen which should show my statement, but the screen is blank. This screen usually shows the selected statement in PDF and I can print it out. If I wait a minute or so a popup massage comes up that says: Adobe PDF Document. "There is a problem With Adobe Acrobat/Reader. Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and try again."  I exit try again and the same thing happens again. I have uninstalled/reinstalled Adobe Reader, restarted the computer and cannot get it to work.  I did not have this problem several weeks ago.

I don't have the printing problem but I do have a very similar situation that I believe is a closely tied to your printing problem.  I think the problem is in the way Internet Explorer or Win 7 processes the Adobe button action/script that calls for it to print or save the displayed PDF.
I have a problem with saving Adobe PDF files from inside Internet Explorer 8.  I'm running Windows 7 Pro, IE 8, Adobe Reader 9.3, and Acrobat 9.3 Pro.  Reader is my IE 8 Add-On.  I can open the PDF file, click on "save a copy" either the icon button or go thru the File menu, but don't ever see the dialogue window that asks where I want to save it to, and of course the PDF file is not saved to my computer.  I click and it just goes null.  I've also tried the CTRL+Shift+S hotkey combo to no avail.
I once saw a dialogue window that popped up that alluded to "going outside the protected mode to save it" and did I want to continue.  I've only seen that message window once and it was for just a split second.
I experimented with Protected Mode.  I can open, read, and save the pdf file if I DISABLE Protected Mode.  ENABLING Protected Mode to come back ON resets and reproduces the problem.
So, thinking it had to do with the Internet Security level, I cranked that setting down to the minimum but kept Protected Mode enabled.  The problem was still there.
The workaround I use (until someone gives me a better fix) to get the "SAVE a copy to my computer or other location" button of the PDF to actually work is to:
Double-click Internet|Protected Mode: On at the bottom of the window or tab displaying the PDF file.  This brings up the Internet Security settings panel.
Uncheck Enable Protected Mode.  You are putting your computer at a bit of a risk... but you aren't going web surfing with Protected Mode turned Off.  Do not leave the site where you turned it off.
Click Apply and OK.  Close your browser window with the PDF and reopen it to the PDF you need to Save.  If you are on a pop-up window or a second tab, you only have to close that one window or tab and reopen it.
You may have to log back on if you are working with an online statement of account.
Your browser should also show that it is "Internet | Protected Mode: Off".  A yellow bar at the top of the page warns you the Protected Mode is turned Off.
Save the PDF as you've been doing all along until our software (Win 7 Pro U/G with IE8) started belching.
After saving, repeat steps 1, 2, and 3 above with rechecking Enable Protected Mode, setting it to On.  Clicking the yellow bar at the top of your browser gets you right back into the security settings panel to reset the mode.
Close your browser and reopen it.  Verify Protected Mode is reset to On.
It's risky to disable the Protected Mode, but if I need to save a copy of a pdf file, such as a statement of an online account, this is the only way I've discovered how to save a copy of it short of printing a hard copy, then scanning the hard copy to a pdf (a digital file) for storing/disseminating it.  My workaround may also work for your printing needs.  Try it once and don't forget to reset the Protected Mode back to On.
It's a nuisance, a real pain in the ol' sphincter, to have to do these steps but until Microsoft and Adobe have a meeting of minds and solve the problem... well, I gotta do what I gotta do.
I've only had Win 7 Pro for about a week. It was working great when I first upgraded from Win XP Pro (clean install) and a day or so ago without any significant changes or alterations on my part it just started acting up.
I posted this in Microsoft's Win 7 Forum as well so maybe one side or the other will fix it.

I had same problem with Reader v11 and tried many of the suggestions. Finally I read a question, have you tried the Repair Adobe Reader Installation? I had not and thought perhaps it was in Windows 7 control panel/programs where there are sometime options to repair. In this case, the link is in the Reader Help menu. I ran it, had to restart computer, and pdf files print now! Good Luck
