Adobe Reader X Sandbox Bypass Zero Day

Whatever happened to this supposed vulnerability?  It just dropped off the map; no patch, no CVE, no security vendor has produced detection/protection for it or any exploits.  We're these Russians,as is usually the case, full of borscht?
I am being tasked to come up with detection, but all talk about it stopped around 9 November, and there are no technical details anywhere?  Was, it all false?

  • Adobe reader 9 will not install

    Hi all
I need some help, I run a Vista 32 bit PC, Adobe updater has tried to update the reader from version 8.1.2 to 9, it downloads new files successfully, activates the installer almost completes to 99.9% then stops with an error! See the alert box message given below.
The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.
Or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package AcroRead.msi
When I close this error box I get another message saying there was an error 1714 older version of adobe 9 could not be removed.
Likewise there is a copy of adobe 8.1.2 which I am unable to uninstall from the control panel programs and features any help to this solution would be much appreciated.
    Thanks James

    Hello:
I have had trouble upgrading Adobe Reader 8.1 for many days.
So, I had never deleted previous releases (i.e Release 6/7 or versions either) so I went back and removed all Adobe Reader releases through the Control Panel.
I attempted to load Adobe Reader 8.1.2 and received the following message: Error 1316. A Network error occurred while attempting to read from the file: C:\Windows\Installer\Rdr60ENU.msi
The system backed out all changes and now I am without any Adobe Reader. I do not know what to do as I could not find this error message in the Knowledgebase Search database.
    Please advise

  • Adobe reader 10.1.2 crashes when opening pdf

I have a user with windows XP pro ,  Just recently she tries to open pdf's in outlook 2003 and it crashes. Did an uninstall of reader and re-installed and it worked fine for a couple days the it crashed again. I again un-installed and re-installed and that didn't work. When it does the error reporting it comes up with the windows error that there is a newer version and to go to the adobe web site to down load it. I have the newest vesion installed. Wonder if installing older version would work.
    Thanks
    Joel

I am also experiencing the same problem using Outlook 6. I have also un-installed and re-installed adobe reader, which worked for a day but now it keeps hanging after about 10 seconds.
This problem has only occurred since March 2012. Any help or solutions would be welcome.
    Cheers

  • ON MAC OS, Adobe Reader unable to search a document for words

    Hi,
I am using Adobe Reader on a Mac Os platform.  All my software is up to date, including OS and Adobe Reader.
My issue is that when I try searching a particular document for a word, it may return one result, if any, although there are clearly more results in the document.  I also tried this same operation on a windows os, windows 7 most updated os.  The search returned all results that were there..
This must be a mac thing, I am wondering what fix there is for this?
If this helps, when I copy and past the highlighted text to msword, it comes back in wing dings or some symbols...although its clear it is readible text in the document....able to annotate andhighlight it..etc.
    Thank you!

I have a similar problem, but it has only occurred since my Adobe Reader was updated a few days ago.
Until then, the 'search' function (command-shift-F) would operate beautifully.
Since the update (to version 9.4.0, on Mac OS-X 10.6) the 'search' menu does not even show, regardless of whether I use the shortcut or the  menu from the top.  'Find' still seems to work, but it is prety useless when there ae multiple occurrences of a word or phrase within a document.
If this canot be resilved, I would much rather go back to the old version - how do I do this?

  • Plugincheck claims Adobe Reader/Acrobat 10.0.1-nl is outdated; can't find newer version.

Today I checked the Firefox 4.0.1. plugins by use of: http://www.mozilla.com/nl/plugincheck/
This website claims the: Adobe Acrobat Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape 10.0.1 is outdated.
However when in look at Adobe's website (directed to http://get.adobe.com/nl/reader/)
Adobe Reader X 10.0.1 seems to be the latest version.
Is the plugincheck wrong, or is there a later version of Adobe Reader or is there something else the matter?
    Have a nice day,
    Websafe.

Today (June 14) Adobe has released version 10.1.0 of Adobe Reader.
Installed this latest version on my computer and the plugincheck seems to be happy with this version of Adobe Reader.
    Have a nice day,

  • Can't download Adobe Reader - IE8 crashes

    Hi,
I am astonished that something as simple as downloading a file isn't simple.   Anyway, the problem I seem to experience is that IE8 crashes (or appears to crash) when trying to download Adobe Reader.   I had a very similar problem today with trying to download Adobe Flash.
I don't know what to do aside from looking at other options (non-Adobe reader on the internet).
I have a fresh install of Windows XP Pro with SP3.  I'm using IE8.
I wonder if it is possible to get Adobe Reader using an ftp connection.
    David

This might work (a free pdf reader by Foxit):
    http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/reader/
I downloaded Foxit's free pdf reader and had it up and running in less than 5 minutes.   By comparison I've been struggling with trying to download the Adobe Reader (and Flash player) all day today (spent the day reading forum posts).
Now, I just need a replacement for flash.
Just for the record, I never would have switched to something else if it were possible for me to download Flash and Adobe reader.  It is beyond me why a company as large as Adobe cannot find a simplistic way to deliver an installation file.  It's perplexing and frustrating.   But, at least I found an alternative.

  • Adobe Reader X leaks GDI handles in quick search box

Just installed Adobe Reader X a couple of days ago (Windows 7, x64). I used it for numerous online documents (in Firefox), while searching for some specific terms in each document. After a while the reader presented a strange picture, not properly painting itself anymore. Then, the reader became unresponsive, and Firefox too, and I had to kill the task.
This happened a few times on different pdf documents.
In my programming career things like these have happened more often so, when the behavior happened again, I went checking the process using Windows Task Manager, adding a few extra columns (Handles, User Objects, GDI Objects) and found that the number of GDI objects was nearly 10000, the absolute limit that Windows imposes on any single process.
I went on checking the reader, now standalone and without Firefox, to see if the problem would persist. Opened a few pdfs and scrolled back and forth. No problems -
tried the same in Firefox to see if the plugin was OK - still no problem.
Then started using the quick search box (Ctrl-F) and repeatedly looked for something trivial (e.g. just a single letter A) - Bingo! Now the GDI handle count starts rising seriously, and does not come back to the original level.
This is definitely a leak, and it needs to be fixed.

We don't process bug reports via these forums - please post any details of unexpected behaviors to the official reporting form.

  • Warning: Zero Day exploit in the wild targeting Adobe Reader 9.4.6

Adobe has just released details of a Zero Day exploit targeting Reader version 9.4.6, details here: http://blogs.adobe.com/asset/2011/12/background-on-cve-2011-2462.html
An independent site called H Security also has some background info on the subject which, to a lesser degree, also affects 10.1.1: http://www.h-online.com/security/news/item/New-Adobe-Reader-zero-day-in-the-wild-1391441.h tml

So here we are now sitting pretty with Reader updated to 9.4.7
However, once again, this update has FAILED to address the issue with the Firefox plugin which remains as 9.4.5.236
So anybody who unwittingly updates Reader to 9.4.7 but doesn't notice that the Firefox plugin remains as 9.4.5.236 is going to have a nasty surprise if they happen to land on a malware infested site!
The only workaround here is to disable the plugin in the Firefox Add-ons manager which you can access by hitting CTRL+SHIFT+A. Go to the Plugins menu and click the "Disable" button to the right on the Reader installation. This means you will be unable to read PDF files in the Firefox browser and will instead be presented with the option to download them to your own machine. If however you choose to open them with the disabled plugin, it will once again remain enabled until you manually disable it again, so be careful.

  • New Zero Day Vulnerability - does it impact Reader 8.3.1

I recognize EOL for Reader 8.x was November, but I need to know if this new vulnerability impacts users of Reader 8.3.1.

Thank you, and yes, but it does not specifically say if version 8.3.1 is
    impacted (that I can tell)

  • Adobe Reader 10.1/ 11 get error "has stopped working" on windows 7 after installed 1 or 2 days, but Adobe Reader is fine==

Adobe Reader 10.1/ 11 get error "has stopped working" on windows 7 after installed 1 or 2 days, but Adobe Reader is fine==

Turning off the Protected Mode at Startup setting fixed the problem for me. Switched off all protected mode settings in Preferences exited Adobe Reader XI then restarted. Now I can successfully open files without the program crashing. I run the same versions of Adobe Reader and Norton Internet Security on Windows 7 and Windows 8 systems and the problem only occurred on Windows 7.

  • I installed a free 30 day subscription of adobe reader X1 and I want to try to edit a pdf.  The program keeps taking me back to a link to buy it?? how do I use it?

how do i use my free 30 day trial of adobe reader x1?? when i try to edit a pdf it just asks me to buy the program?

I think your problems may come down to mixing up two completely different programs.
    1. Adobe Reader. This is FREE. There is no subscription or trial. However, there are add-on subscriptions called ExportPDF and PDF Pack. There is no trial for these either.
    2. Adobe Acrobat. This is NOT FREE and has a 30 day free trial.
My guess is that you have downloaded the free trial for Adobe Acrobat, but are continuing to actually run Adobe Reader. Look closely at which app you are using, and start it with the START button (Windows) or Launch Pad (Mac). DON'T JUST DOUBLE CLICK ON A PDF.
