Adobe Reader X text disappears

I have a user that will have open 3 or 4 PDF's in Adobe Reader X. When the user starts flipping between the PDF's. the screen starts to go dark and the text disappears on one or more document until it's closed out and reopened. The PDF's are about 300 pages each of text. I did all updates to windows and to adobe and it still happening. The computer is running Windows 7 32bit. It's a Dell 980 with 4GB of RAM. Any advice would help.
Thanks.

Is there something special about a pdf/a doc?

  • Form is filled on iPad then emailed.  If form is opened with Adobe Reader all text is visible, but if opened with Acrobat XI no text is visible.

Form filled on ipad.  When opened with Adobe Reader all text is visible, but if opened with Acrobat XI no text is visible- form is blank.   Have been using this system for months with  no problems.

That suggestion makes sense and likely works, but only if the user is on a machine that will allow them to use Reader. I'm sending this out to a lot of teachers, who are using machines either at school, or are school-issued machines, and they don't have the admin privileges to install software-- even Reader.
so my problem is, if they are stuck on a machine without Reader, and without the possibility of having Reader... it's just not going to work because Preview can't handle these functions.
And, since that is not an acceptable answer with what I'm trying to do... I will find another way to create/submit forms. I think there are some online possibilities I will have to make work.
    very, very disappointing and frustrating.

  • Adobe Reader displays text incorrectly as a thin grainy font

Adobe Reader displays text incorrectly as a thin grainy font. How do I fix it?

I think I counted three tabbed panels in the markup, each with an ID of TabbedPanels1
You have only one constructor that makes one instance of the tabeed panels with an ID of TabbedPanels1
There are a couple of things that create the problem.
There can only be one ID with the same name in a document, thus the ID's of the TabbedPanels will need to change from TabbedPanels1 for the second and third instances to TabbedPanels2 and TabbedPanels3 (or similar) respectively.
There needs to be a constructor for each tabbed panels like
    var TabbedPanels1 = new Spry.Widget.TabbedPanels("TabbedPanels1");
    var TabbedPanels2 = new Spry.Widget.TabbedPanels("TabbedPanels2");
    var TabbedPanels3 = new Spry.Widget.TabbedPanels("TabbedPanels3");

  • Adobe Reader 9 Text selection with "." (dot) symbol

    Hello,
My name is Ilya and I have a problem that have been bothering me since Adobe Reader permit text selection.
    So the problem:
When I want to select a word in the text, I usually make a double click on the word I want to select. But if this word is in the end of the sentence, Adobe Reader also selects "." symbol. I.e., instead of "peace", Adobe Reader selected "peace." - It is pretty uncomfortable because I have to delete this "." symbol after copy/past.
    Thank you
    -Ilya

Yes, in this case I have to use "normal" selection. But double-click selection much more faster than "normal" and it would be great if Adobe developers can fix this bug.

  • Why won't adobe reader show text?

I am working for my eagle scout rank and in order to do my service project, a form must be filled out on the computer as a pdf. I started the PDF on my old dell, and i downloaded Adobe reader for my mac to finish it. For preview, it takes the lines of the paragraph and overlaps the words, rendering it unreadable, and for adobe reader, the words are invisible unless editing those words. when the text box isnt selected the words disappear. Why isnt this working and is there a setting i can change to fix this?

Difficult to say without further details. The fact that both Preview and Adobe Reader have difficulties with it suggests that the file itself may be corrupt—or that you have fonts issues on your Mac.
You need to isolate the problem. Download another PDF file and check if it shows any anomalies. Gather info on the problem file; eg, in Preview, use Inspector (Tools > Show Inspector) and check PDF version, content creator, and PDF creator.

  • Adobe Reader - Italic texts appears as Regular

    Hi,
In earlier, I had an issue in print PDF documents using Adobe Reader wherein all Italic texts are printed as Regular. I found the below link from Adobe and upgraded the version I am using and the issue were fixed.
    Can't print italics | Mouseover problems | Acrobat 10.1.1 or 9.4.6 update
Currently, I am using Version 11.0.07, under Macintosh and I come through the same issue. The case is that, I have created 10 PDF documents from a single application (say Chapter wise), in which 7 of them prints well whereas in 3 of PDFs, Italic texts printed as Roman. Is that a bug in the Reader?

Before anything else, try updating to 11.0.09.

  • Adobe Reader Causing Text Issue in IE11

When I type in IE11, after having opened Adobe Reader, all of the characters are numeric.  They go from 0 to 9 and repeat.  I have to reboot my computer for the problem to go away.  Any thoughts?

    What is your operating system?
    What is your Reader version?

  • Adobe Reader X pdfs disappearing!

    Hi,
I'm posting this for my wife who is having this problem with her new(ish) 13" Macbook Pro:
"I am using Adobe Reader X on my MacBook (OS X, 10.6.8). If I have a pdf open in Reader, and then put my laptop to sleep [close the lid], after it wakes up the content of the pdf is no longer visible. It's not that the window is all whited or blacked out, there is no window. There is only a menu bar. The file cannot be returned to normal by selecting it in the Window menu [though, we have learned that you can use the "zoom" function and it will reappear]. After this happens, the only way to view this file is to close Reader and re-open the file. I tried reinstalling Reader X, but still have the same problem."
We have not been able to find this problem noted anywhere online and we've posted to the adobe forum but have yet to receive a response from anyone.
So.... Anyone have any ideas about this?

Adobe Reader X is the ONLY program that this is happening with. And, just to clarify (for "suvos"), this is being run on Snow Leopard, not Lion. Also, just to forestall the obvious "have you updated" query: yes, Adobe Reader X is at version 10.1.1, and all other system-wide updates have been performed.
My wife is a scientist and really relies on some of the features/functionality particular to Adobe Reader, otherwise I'm sure that Preview would be a fix. Somehow we need to deal with this and, like I said, we can't seem to find any other folks with this problem out there.
    Thanks!

  • Adobe Reader 8 Text Covered With Black Boxes

I work in a call center in which we use Adobe Acrobat Reader Version 8 to read the customer's bills through a third party client. When we pull up the bills most of the text is highlighted in black and cannot be read. We can get around this issue by highlighting (which changes the colors) or by clicking on the comments icon (also associated with markup) several times until the text changes to a readable color. I have spent hours changing preferences with no luck and I called Adobe for help and they referred me here!!
If you wish to see what the problems looks like I have a picture at:
    http://briefcase.yahoo.com/bc/intdne1/lst?.dir=/Adobe+Problem&.src=bc&.view=
Any and all help is appreciated by me and the hundreds of people trying to use this application. Best Regards all, Chester

    Hi folks!
Yep, the same "black-blocks" problem happens to me. It is easier to see it when I am reading a file page by page using the mouse wheel. When I am turning the wheel to scroll down the document normally, everything is OK. But if I stop for a few seconds and then turn it one step back, as if wanting to read a line up again, the black blocks appear, obscuring the text. I tried changing the resolution of the display from 32 to 16 bits, to no avail. This kind of problem never happened when I was using version 7, but I understand that, having changed from version 7 to version 8 for security reasons, there should be no reason to turn back to a previous version, isn't it so?
I hope Adobe checks this problem, 'cause it is really annoying when you are trying to check a schematic or a technical document, that you have to be going back and forth in the same page while those "black blocks" appears over the document. Let's wait and see...

  • I have an issue in Adobe Reader, blurry text with a section of a PDF. Same file works fine on a colleagues PC. Even tried Pro?

I posted this question on Twitter last week, was asked to check the settings for rendering and this didn't make a difference. I then installed Adobe Acrobat Pro to see if this made a difference but no luck. Finally I was asked to print in B&W but again no luck. One of my colleagues is using Reader and the same file works fine for him. Please help...

After a week's worth of debugging, I found the issue.
The Java type returned from the call was defined as ArrayList.  Changing it to List resolved the problem.
I'm not sure why ArrayList isn't a valid return type, I've been looking at the Adobe docs, and still can't see why this isn't valid.  And, why it works in Debug mode and not in Release build is even stranger.  Maybe someone can shed some light on the logic here to me.

  • Adobe reader shows text but won't print all the text

I have a form used by many and it works with no problem.  Today one came in you could see all the text, but when printed, only some of the text appeared.
I checked it on 3 machines, also one that has Acrobat 9  on it, same results.
On the print setup, under comments and forms, I  have Documents and Markup set,  but if I click on "form field only"  I do get the missing text.
As said we have gotten many forms from other people, no problems, so it really not for lack of knowing how to print it correctly.
The only print preview I can see I have is when I go to print it, it appears on the right, and it is missing the text there.
I have removed all name and address from the form for privacy reason,   I did add my name in a few blocks and then saved it but it won't print that also.
for some reason only the top row under CPR   AED  and SFA print, but as you can see, there are a bunch that don't, along with all the names I removed.
    Thanks in advance.
    John
    Any ideas?
Tuesday--still working on this,  I activited the voice part of my acrobat 9 and it reads all the text while in PDF form, just won't print it.

Restarted computer and seems to be working again.

  • Can Adobe read specific text from Excel and merge them together?

I have a catalog in PDF format with thousands of part numbers.  I want to be able to click on each part number and be directed to a specific web page.  All web pages will be different.  I know how to do this ONE at a time but that would be too time consuming and not something my company would be willing to do.  I have an Excel spreadsheet with the part numbers listed in one column and the URL's in one and a column of them as hyperlinks already.  Is it possible for Adobe to match the part numbers from both files and merge them together?
    Thanks!
    Amanda

The part numbers will all be together but most have alot of dashes and some are very long.   Here are 3 examples.  Alot of them are this size, some much larger but they are all together on one line.
    CV-LED-W
    SDOP-LED-2M
    SIF-232
    Thanks,
    Amanda

  • Adobe Reader 9.5.1 on Linux crashes every second time I try to print

    I can print perfectly.
But if Adobe Reader stays open, and I try to print the same document a second time, or I try to print another document: In the moment I click on the Ok button in the print dialog, Adobe Reader crashes (window disappears) and nothing is printed.
I have Adobe Reader 9.5.1 and cups 1.4.8.
(Because I have cups 1.4.8 I don't think my problem is related to http://forums.adobe.com/thread/691846).

I have the exact same problem with Adobe Reader 9.5.1 on Linux, gentoo build from sources of course, and the second time I try to print, or try to open a file or save, it means the second time you try to open a dialog that has something to do with system, it crashes...
It can be reproducible on other distributions.
    :s
I will not patch anything, but alternatives does not work as expected, also embedded into firefox has the same behaviour, and when it crashes you can not open any other pdf until you restart firefox and plugin reloads again...

  • Adobe Reader 10.2.0 (58582) on iPad 2 with iOS 5.1.1 (9B206) dies rendering USGS topo maps

I downloaded Adobe Reader today from the app store because I wanted to look at some high resolution, multi-layered topo maps with Cub Scouts on my iPad 2 and I figured that Adobe Reader would be the best app for the job.
    Example: http://ims.er.usgs.gov/gda_services/download?item_id=5258723&quad=Boone&state=NC&grid=7.5X 7.5&series=TNM%20GeoPDF
The link above is to a zipped copy of a PDF... Safari will not open it directly. So, I unzipped it and put a copy of it on a web server: https://www2.ecrsoft.com/boone.pdf
Safari will download that, but when I open it in Adobe Reader, the app disappears (presumable crashes) after rendering the first few layers. I really wish it'd work, because Safari is really slow to render the graphics when you zoom in.
The device has 512 MB RAM... it should be able to handle these files. I know the PDF file is OK. It works in the latest Windows version of Adobe Reader.
    Help me Adobe.

    Hi Matthew,
The issue appears to be that the file takes quite a bit of memory to render. We're continuously making optimizations in how we manage memory during rendering. I have some good news and bad news. I tested the boone.pdf (an awesome file that I'll keep for testing) in our upcoming release (10.2.1) and it opens there (on my ipad 2 with ios 5.1.1). It renders considerably slower on my iPad 3 since the resolution is doubled there, but still doesn't crash. We're awaiting approval from apple on that 10.2.1 release, so please keep on the lookout for updates. Thanks for the file!

  • Google Docs offline / Adobe Reader

I'm looking for a way to read PDF files in Galaxy Nexus. I've installed Google Docs and Adobe Reader. Google Docs allows offline caching; but I'm not sure where it saves the file in the device. When I connect it to a computer, the folder tree doesn't show any special folder for documents. Same goes for Adobe Reader. Can anyone help me here? I just want to copy some pdf files from my computer to the GN so that I can read them on the device.
Secondly, is there any app for taking notes? Spare evernote etc. Something local, no online sync required.
    Thanks.

I will assume that you are using the Print function of Word to produce PDFs of Word files. Even then, I fail to understand what do you mean by "converting Word figures" that "disappear" after conversion, while "all other pictures/figures appear with no problem". Are you trying to say that, when convereting to PDFs one (or more) Word documents containing more than one image, one or more of these are not to be found in the PDF file? If so, I would suspect a problem with that/those image(s).
