Adobe Reader X UNIX

Hey all,
as the new Adobe Reader X should be released by the end of the month I would like to ask, if someone knows if the Unix/Linux-Version is released at the same time as the Windows version?
Thanks for any answer!
Regards

Hi,
There are no plans for Adobe Reader X for Linux/Unix for the time being
Thanks

The last Reader version issued for Unix is 9.5.5; you can download the appropriate files from ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/unix/9.x/9.5.5/enu/

  • How to install adobe readed on unix

    Hello,
I am new here. I was wondering if it is possible to install adobe reader on my unix machine. If it is possible can any one tell me how to install it ?
    Thanks in advance.

After installation, you should be able to open any PDF documents using Adobe Reader by just double clicking on them.
You should also find an icon for Adobe Reader on your desktop. You can double click on that icon to launch Adobe Reader directly.
If you wish to launch Adobe Reader from the command prompt, just type "acroread" (without the double quotes).
All of these steps work on most Unix systems.

  • Is there a bug in Adobe Reader for Unix?

I have the most recent version of Reader as of November 2010 (I think it's 9.4.3). PDFs downloaded from the Federal Direct Loan Servicing Center (student loans) are not working right. (This affects students in the United States.) I don't know if it's their mistake or a bug, but the DL center is not answering emails!
So I hope someone can tell me if this is a bug:
When I open the PDF, there is a *toolbar* to Show/Hide forms.
    I choose to *Show forms*.
Only *some* fields are fillable, others are not!
Also, when I *tab* though the fields, it tabs in a completely *mixed-up order*.
Does anyone know if this is a bug? Or do you know if the DL center makes their forms wrong?
    Thanks!

    Hi Terry,
For step 3, the reason might be that certain fields in the PDF is not being recognized as form fields by Acrobat/Reader or their properties make them non-fillable.
For step 4, I can comment more in case I get the pdf
Can the PDF form in question be shared?
If yes, please email it to adharATadobeDOTcom

  • Does Adobe Reader plugin work in Firefox 11 if launched from Gnome?

Sorry to cross post, but I couldn't figure out how to move my post from the "Adobe Reader" forum to the "Adobe Reader for Unix" forum.
If I launch Firefox (version 11) from the command line (Linux shell), then I can open a PDF with the Adobe Reader plugin.  But if I launch Firefox from the desktop or panel in Gnome, I get the message "Could not launch Adobe Reader 9.1.0. Please make sure it exists in PATH variable in the environment.  If the problem persists, please reinstall the application."
acroread is in the PATH variable - I checked ("which acroread" and "echo $PATH")
We are using acroread 9.3.2.  We tried updating to the latest acroread 9.4.something ...? but the SendMail option was missing from Edit->Preferences, so we reverted to 9.3.2.
We are using Debian Linux 5.0.8.
It is very convenient and user-friendly in our library for visitors to be able to view a PDF in the browser (with the plugin) and to be able to just click on the envelope icon from there to send a PDF.
This was working fine until we upgraded to Adobe Reader 9.4.  We reverted to 9.3.2, and everything was working fine again.  Then our systems people did some things, including updating Mozilla Firefox from version 3.6.13 to version 11.  Then the plugin stopped working from the Gnome launch panel.  I tried running the old Firefox 3.6.13 from the Gnome launch panel, but the plugin no longer works in it, either.
    Has anyone had this problem?
Sometimes running Firefox from the command line gives some errors.  I tried various versions of nppdf.so and tried toggling the about:config variable "dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.nppdf.so" but nothing changed.

I have the same or a very similar issue on WIn7 64bit

  • How to playback sound and video in Adobe Reader in Linux?

Hi one of the killer features of Adobe Acrobat is the ability to embed multimedia content in .PDF documents. (I do hope Adobe extend this functionality).
In Windows Adobe Reader plays these files back just fine (so for example you can make an audio book), but in Linux whenever a .PDF is opened containing multi media content, the application complains that no supported media player is installed.
I have real player installed, as this appears to be the only supported media player - but the acroread executable appears to be unable to find it. (Or at least it seems to not be able to use it). Where exactly is it looking for the executable? (Or is it looking for it at all?
Is there a way to play back embedded media content in PDF documents when using Linux?
    I'm using Ubuntu 7.10.

  • Adobe Reader 9.3.1 Bug?

My OS is Ubuntu 9.10 amd64.
I found Adobe Reader 9.3.1 has a bug.
The bug is: after clicking (by mouse) the blank space of the tab bar, I can't expand any menu of the menu bar by clicking.
The blank space is shown in the following screen shot:

  • Going full screen in Adobe Reader 7

I have happily used Acroread 5 under SuSE 9.2 on my desktop. Now I moved a latex-generated PDF presentation of mine on a laptop with SuSE 10.2 and Adobe Reader 7, and I've noted what it looks like a non-conformance to the X11 standards.
On my old system I used to hit control-L to go full screen in acroread, and I was correctly seeing only the CONTENT of the PDF document.
With Adobe Reader 7.0 when I go full screen I see also the window manager decorations (title bar and border), which means the bottom part of my slides go off screen.
Since my window manager is fvwm, I tried instructing the window manager not to produce any title bar or decorations. If I invoke Adobe Reader, the window (not in full screen) honours whatever choices I make for the decorations(none, title bar on top or bottom or sides etc.).
However as soon as I go full screen, the choices are not honoured and I get the full decorations (title bar on top and borders). Worse than that, when I leave full screen mode the decorations remain and the wm configuration is not honoured.
I also tried playing with the -geometry switch, but that too is honoured outside of full screen mode only.
My current workaround is to define an accelerator key in fvwm so that I move the title bar off screen after entering full screen mode. But I regard that as unsatisfactory. I'd strongly prefer a stricter X11 compliance (as acroread 5 had)

    Hello Lucio,
The issue you have reported is a known issue with Adobe Reader 7. These full screen issues have been fixed in Adobe Reader 8.1.2 (the current latest version) where the window manager decorations are not shown in full screen mode.
Adobe Reader 8.1.2 has a large number of new features and bug fixes so I would recommend that you upgrade to that. Refer http://blogs.adobe.com/acroread/2008/02/adobe_reader_812_for_linux_and.html for more details.
Also, if you want to know about future release announcements, stay tuned to the official blog for Adobe Reader on Unix at http://blogs.adobe.com/acroread.
    Hope this helps.

  • Adobe Reader 8.1.2 wont finish install and wont uninstall

I downloaded adobe 8.1.2 onto my Toshiba laptop and it fails to open pdf files on my Windows Vista 64 bit version. i removed all i could and Adobe wont uninstall i get an error message 2330. i tried to install Adobe 9 on top but it would only go as far as removing old versions and fails and rewinds installation. so NOW i cant read pdf's and stuck with a non-functioning adobe.
how can i remove this or fix it?

Wonder why that was so confusing to understand. If you want help on why something is failing on your Windows Vista Box, the Adobe Reader for "Unix" is the last forum that you should be writing to. You do know that Vista isn't Unix, right?
Try the generic Reader forum - "http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.ee6b2e6/"

  • Can Adobe Reader 9.4+ send mail?

Sorry to cross post, but I couldn't figure out how to move my post from the "Adobe Reader" forum to the "Adobe Reader for Unix" forum.
The last version of Adobe Reader we had that allowed us to send mail through the envelope icon from Adobe Reader was acroread 9.3.2.
When we installed an update, 9.4, the SendMail item no longer showed in the list from Edit->Preferences.
Does anyone know why?  Thank you.
We are using Debian Linux 5.0.8 and Adobe Reader either standing alone or in a plugin from the Mozilla Firefox browser version 11.

thank you  for your suggestions, this is what I did....I downloaded adobe readers 10.1.2 , 9.5, and 8.3. I first tried installing reader 10, it got to 52.21% installed, then froze/ locked up.
I shut off the computer and restarted it, tried to remove  the program so that I could fully install it, but received the following message:
This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer patch package.
I then went to my program files and deleted all the adobe reader files.
I then attempted to install reader 10, it got about half way , and instead of locking up or freezing it restarted as if there was a power surge.
I tried again, and it froze/ locked up at 52.21%
I then attempted to install reader 8 but received this message: Setup has detected that you already have a more functional product installed. Setup will now terminate.
I then tried installing reader 9.5it got to about 53% and restarted itself as if there was a power surge, again  I then gave up and did a system restore.

  • Having Trouble Installing Adobe Reader, Error Messages

    Hi,
I've tried the direct Adobe Reader for Unix from Adobe, both the tar and slackware. I've also tried several packages from my distros' repo. None are working.
Most attempts seem to install and give a confirmation, but when I call from the menu, nothing happens. When I call from a terminal I get this innocuous error message: terminate called after throwing an instance of 'ASErrException' I have no idea what this is.
I use both LightHouse64 514b and Fatdog64 521f. I've installed the 32bit compatibility stuff from my distro in both (Puppy Linux).
I know some of whatever is wrong could be on my distro end, and I am seeking help there too.
Can anyone explain what this error message is, and what calls it?
Also, I would really like to see a tree of Adobe Reader files so that I could make sure that everything is where it's supposed to be. Could anyone point me somewhere?
Any input welcome. Thanks in advance.
    Eathray

What kind of trouble? What platform and version of OS? Any error messages? How are you trying to install Reader? Any previous versions of Reader and/or Acrobat installed?

  • Adobe Reader and accessing files on a unix box

sorry if this is the wrong forum, but here goes.  I have adode
reader on my endusers workstations (Windows based).  They need to be able to open pdf's that are on a unix
server.  Can they use Adobe Reader 9.0 to do this?  If so are they any special settings or
addins that need to be set.
    Thanks!

There should be no problem opening PDF files from other platforms, as long as they can actually access the Unix filesystem.
The easiest way to prove it is to try it.
