Adobe Reader X - very sluggish

I've found X to be very sluggish on my 32 bit Vista 4gb RAM Intel Core 2 Due @ 2.33GHz. Downgraded back to 9.4 which is very fast, espsecially with PDFs containing multiple subfiles.

One more thing: if you view the task pane in a Reader doc, it's impossible or very difficuly to turn it off, unless you close Reader.
Once again, this is very poor design.  You should be able to close it in an obvious way, like a menu option or an X on the task pane.

  • Adobe Reader XI very slow

When you open the files on the network and then you try to open adobe reader in offline mode it takes minutes before it will start ...
    Thanks
    Marco

This can be solved by watching for a Popup balloon in the upper right corner of the Reader screen.  The balloon contains an electric lightbulb and reads "Click on Tools to convert PDF documents to Word or Excel".  Click the X within the balloon to close this popup and the Reader application will perform at a more normal speed.  Some dumb AS$ programmer's bright idea really slowed things down for a bunch of Terminal Server users (Windows 2008R2).  Next I need to figure out how to disable this "feature" from the outset.  I hope this works for others.  Cheers!

  • Adobe reader x very slow opening files over vpn to samba share

Takes 2 to 3 minutes to open a file - Acrobat Pro v7 accesses immediately - downgrade
to Acrobat 7 reader works fine - true on XP and Windows 7 - all updates installed.

I think I have isolated the source of this problem. It's the Pitstop Professional 9 plug in. I un-installed this, and everything opens quicker than greased lightning. I re-installed it and it's back to slowsville.
Unfortunately Pitstop is essential to my workflow.
Until recently I did my pre-press on a Mac G5 with Acrobat Pro 7 and Pitstop 6.5. I never had this problem with slow file opening. But it seems that the delays would occur when I used the plug-in with large complex files.. So it would open files as fast as you'd expect from an elderly machine. But starting to use Pitstop would result in a prolonged period of staring at a spinning beachball.
I wonder is there any way to stop the Pitstop plug-in from initializing until it is used? So the plug-in stays inert until you select the tool from from the menus.

  • Adobe Reader 10.1.3 Performance Problems (Open PDF from Outlook)

    Hello all,
Adobe Reader 10.1.3 Multi Language version was rolled out to several hundreds of Win XP SP3 client machines.
Now users start reporting that Adobe Reader starts very slow. Most users complain that opening a PDF attached to an email in MS Outlook takes very long (10 sek up to several minutes).
In some forums I found problems with PDFs in Outlook in versions before 10.1.1.
Does anyone has an idea what causes this slow response?
Is there anything we can test to come closer to the problem?
    Thanks for help.

I do not have this problem with Reader 10.1.6 or 11.0.2 on Outlook 2007.
WhatI would do if I encountered such a problem: observe the process with Process Monitor.  This could give me some clues what is going on, compared to an earlier Reader version that did not cause this problem.

  • Functionality missing - excel opening pdf file launches adobe reader

When i opened a PDF file in excel or word it used to launch adobe reader instead and show me the file. Yesterday i installed internet explorer 8 and now this functionality has disappeard.
Anybody knows how to get it back?

    Hi and thanks for replying.
Well, there used to be something running on the background that opens pdf files in adobe, even if you tried opening them in office applications. And i dont know how it works but now it's gone.
Problem for me is not the opening thru another program itself, but the functionality being there and now being gone with the installation of internet explorer 8. Also, for some people, like my father, opening something thru adobe reader is very different then opening something thru excel.
I hope this helps and some1 can point me to the background process to see if i can update/implenent something in ie8.

  • Adobe Reader 11.09 unstable on Win 8.1 in Company Network

Today I started rolling out Adobe Reader 11.09 in my company network.
Installed on 4 machines I have difficulties on 2:
    - 2 machines with Windows 7: no Problem
    - 2 machines with Windows 8.1: Adobe Reader is very unstable and slow
I tried opening pdf-files from a network share (as I read a different thread here) and from local hard drive.
Both times Adobe Reader gave no Response for minutes.
After changing back to 11.08: no problem.
    Anyone any idea?
If you need more detailed information just ask.

Not that anyone cares but I´ve solved the problem.
It has nothing to do with Windows 7 or Windows 8 but if the proxy in system settings is enabled or not.

  • Why is adobe reader slow after installing windows 8

My adobe reader is very slow after upgrading to windows 8

    Try some basic troubleshooting:
    (A) Try reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    (B) Try reset all settings
    Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings
    (C) Setup as new (data will be lost if you do not have backup)
    Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings

  • Adobe Reader 11 stops working very often since installation of latest 11.0.8 patch (on many company workstations)

    Hi,
i am a system administrator of a company with about 350 desktops.
We updated our client workstations (W7PROx64) from Adobe Reader 11.0.7 to Adobe Reader 11.0.8 and now some users complain that the adobe reader stops working very often (Quote: "Every 5th PDF i open, the adobe reader crashes").
Before we distribute the update from 11.0.7 to 11.0.8 there were no such complains...
Is this a "well known" problem ?
    Greetings from germany
    Thomas

There is no support for the free Adobe products, unless you have a corporate support agreement.
Regarding your problem: does it go away if you disable Protected Mode [Edit Preferences | Security (Enhanced)]?  If it does, you can use this registry script to disable it quickly on multiple workstations: https://files.acrobat.com/a/preview/82c09ef4-f32e-4d41-97f3-74d9431f9f20

  • A very long time to 'Activate' a 3Dpdf in Adobe Reader

We are creating files in 3D Reviewer then converting to 3D pdf for distributing them.
There is a lot of CAD data, but conversion to .prw is fairly quick; conversion to pdf is also reasonably quick.
The problem comes when Activating the pdf in Adobe Reader (or even Pro Extended).
It takes several minutes to activate some of our pdfs, (or not at all for some files).
When they have eventually activated they view fine, and even the animations work well.
Typical sizes for these files is 22Mb for the .prw and 17Mb for the .pdf.
I think the problem is not just related to filesize, but to the large number of entities.
Is this a problem that others have come across?

    From http://astronomy.swin.edu.au/s2plot/3dpdf/ :
Please note: Figure 4 (isosurfaces) can be very slow to load in Adobe Reader for Apple Mac OS X. Sometimes it can take up to 2 minutes ... please be patient!
It is not _so_ slow for me, but still is.
http://asymptote.sourceforge.net/gallery/sphericalharmonic.pdf is also not so fast to load.
Some of my models, where I had to use lots of per-triangle materials to achieve smooth color and transparency demonstrated this problem (but they also did not view exactly _fine_, they made my MacBook noisy due to increase in fan activity ; ).

  • In Adobe Reader (11.0) the typing is very slow when I insert sticky notes.

I bought a new laptop and I just installed the latest version of Adobe Reader.
When I insert sticky notes, typing is very slow. This doesn't happen with the
other program. I've uninstalled and reinstalled. I still have the same problem.

This phenomenon can happen with PDF files that have errors in them.  Adobe Reader or Acrobat may be able to fix these errors, but if you close the application, it will ask to save the corrected file.  If you save it once, that should no longer occur when you open it again.
This is just one explanation, but it doesn't explain why that happens with every PDF you have.
Test: does it also happen with a PDF that is not supposed to contain any errors: http://helpx.adobe.com/pdf/adobe_reader_reference.pdf ?

  • Adobe Reader 11.0.2 Very very slow

    Hi all,
Since I have updated to Adobre reader 11 (11.0.2 or 11.0.3), I have some issues on some computers.
i have 40 computers with the same configuration (Win 7 x64)
For 20 of them, It is very slow to open a document (about 6-7 secondes to open Adobe reader)
the the other 20, no issue (1 second max, to open Adobe)
I have noticed that disabling "protected mode" permits to avoid the issue, but I dont want to disable this important security feature.
Why some of the machines works well and the others do not work well ?
Does that performance issue is a known issue by Adoebe ?
Do you have any link to any Adobe release note dealing with that ?
Do you have a way to fix that issue  without redusing security ?
Thank you every body for your help

    Hi Pat,
reader_sl.exe is not in the startup list.
Disabling protected mode is a very high security break that i dont want.
Any other idea ? Thank you

  • Adobe Reader 9 Colors in PDF print very light

    Hello,
I am having an annoying problem with Adobe Reader 9. I have been printing PDFs from it, but the trouble is that the color accuracy is poor.
The colors on the printed page are much lighter than they should be. I have printed the same PDF from a different version of Adobe Reader, namely version 6. The printed colors are exactly as they should be.
This problem is not related to the different ICC color profiles used by the monitor and the printer since using an older version of Adobe Reader doesnt cause this problem. I have tried setting options such as Let printer determine colors, Print as Image and Discolored background correction. These options have reduced the problem but have made little difference. The difference in color is still very noticeable.
I have also tried printing out some color samples namely Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black blocks of color to test if any are at fault. The yellow comes out as green. This must be where the problem lies. All the other color samples are fine.
Are there any suggestions you could offer to fix or significantly reduce the difference in color? Using the very old Adobe Reader 6.0 is far from ideal.
    Thanks in advance.
    Jim Collins

We have a similar issue with Adobe Acrobat Reader 8.x ver. The PDF onscreen colors are totally different than the hard copy. We have tried printing on different models of color printers and there is no issue with the printer drivers. The PDF files are generated from Primavera (P6) application.
    Any Suggestions?
    Thanx.
