Adobe Reader XI - Comments are so slow it's unusable... HELP!

Hi
Running Adobe Reader XI on a brand new Windows 10 laptop - my work involves using Reader to proof read manuscripts, so it's crucial that adding Comments is responsive and quick.
Currently, if I open a comments box, it opens within 2-3 seconds, but then once I type a comment into the box, it takes anywhere up to 35 seconds to even appear! As I type, the box remains empty for at least 20-25 seconds, after which the text eventually appears.
I can't work like this.
Have been through EDIT/PREFERENCES/COMMENTS , EDIT/PREFERENCES/DISPLAY etc and can't find anything that might help... I need things like text smoothing and line enhancement as I'm proofing the appearance of books as well as the content, so I need to know the lines I see are how they will appear in final version.... so I can't turn that stuff off (although I have tried and it makes no difference anyway).
Can anyone help me speed up this particular aspect of the programme? Nothing else on the laptop runs slow like this.
Thanks,

UPDATE:
I was actually running the most recent version - 11.0.09 - but unistalled and then re-installed to see what would happen.
Re installed, I used it to open a PDF (call it File "A") (around 6000k in size) and tried the comments tool. Worked perfectly.
Opened file "B". Original problem - comment appearing around 10-15 seconds after typing.
Re-opened file "A", to see if it is a fault with file "b" rather than Reader itself... sadly, the comments tool is now just as slow on this one, despite having worked perfectly first time.
Feels like it might be some kind of cache problem? Or possibly interference from a security program running alongside?
All thoughts welcome!

  • All my Adobe Reader (PDF) files are opening only in the secondary monitor by default, as I am workin

I am using Adobe 8 Professional and working on Windows XP. I have been facing an issue lately with opening files in a dual-monitor environment. All my Adobe Reader (PDF) files are opening only in the secondary monitor by default. There are times when I work only in one monitor and when I open a PDF file and want to have a look at it, I have to connect another monitor to view that file, since this file is open in the secondary monitor. It is very disappointing with such instances happening with Adobe (a leading organization). Can you please help so that the Adobe Reader files open in the primary monitor by default?

On a Windows system disable the preview of Windows Explorer.

Since I have Yosemite on my iMac I can't view PDF files in Safari anymore.  It keeps telling me to upgrade my Adobe Reader, but it is the latest version.  Please help?  I don't have this problem on my Macbook that does not have Yosemite installed.

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print or save PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to do so by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar should appear under the cursor. Click the printer or disk icon.
    Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    and check the box marked
              Allow Plug-ins
    Then click
              Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
    Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others—I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

  • Adobe Reader X - Commenting by Highlighting

I recently downloaded Adobe Reader X on my work computer since we are in the process of switching our practice over to electronic medical records.
One of the Doctor/Clinicians concerns with this move was that they would be unable to highlight or put post-it notes onto the patient's records if they were electronic. I found that through Adobe Reader X we would be able to comment on our PDF documents (which is how the records are saved). I have been able to use the post-it note aspect of commenting, but for some reason when I try to highlight something nothing happens. The product video made it look so easy, just click and drag and it highlights. However, this is not working for us. Am I doing something wrong? Or do I need to change some formatting with the document in order to allow this? HELP!!

You can perform OCR (optical character recognition) on an image-only PDF. THis add a hidden layer of text that can be highlighted with the text highlight tool. Acrobat or other software is cabable of performing OCR on PDFs.
If the problem is a security restriction, then you won't be able to activate the highlight tool. If you're able to activate the highlight tool but can't select anything that looks like text, then it's likely an image of text.

  • Since installilng Adobe Reader 9 Firefox is very slow & "not responding" How can this be fixed?

Yesterday I installed Adobe Reader 9. Also Firefox became incredibly slow and I keep seeing strange site names in the lower left of the screen. I keep getting "not responding messages", and in 1-2 minutes the screen I wanted comes up. I don't know if they are related. Norton keeps finding lots of "cookies" to remove as well. But that happened prior to this issue.

Try updating Java via Windows Control Panel. The current version is 1.6.0_24. The version you appear to be running is 1.6.0_20

  • Adobe reader fast now it is slow...Help!

I have been using Adobe for about 2-3 months on my Samsung tablet. It has worked well until now. It is slow and the screen stays black like it won't turn on and when I go to get out of the program. It turns on, but I already swiped it off my screen.

I have a Samsung Tab S. All the app says is Adobe Reader. I don't know what version it is. What has been happening is I will tap the app, it will then open to a black screen and stay like that for for what seems like forever, but is probably about 20-30 seconds. Then I will try to scroll through my Pdfs  and it stutters. When I find the document I open it and it goes black again. It also scrolls slower.

  • Adobe Reader screen images are fuzzy or out of focus

The screen images in an Adobe Reader document are fuzzy or out of focus.  How can I sharpen them?

    Thanks:
The Fonts & Colours option worked wonderfully for me and now my pages are displaying the colour and images I expected to see. So very simple in the end. Is it related to the current upgrad? At least I will not have to trouble with attempting to revert to an earlier version.

  • Adobe Reader XI, Comments, Comment Dialog, when multiple paragraphs entered causes comment to rapidly flicker when mouse hovers over comment icon.  Unreadable.  Can still right click and open the icon to edit text.  Windoes 8.1.  Repeatable on two identic

Adobe Reader XI downloaded to my wife's laptop tonight.  Windows 8.1.  Open PDF, select Comments > comment dialog, then place icon on PDF and start editing.  Small edits work fine.  Large amounts of comment text, once you move off the icon and come back and hover over the comment icon, causes the full size comment window to flicker rapidly (5-10ms between on and off) until you move the mouse away from the icon.  Unreadable.  Tried on my identical model laptop and happens there too.  What's going on?

I use the Adobe Reader 8 to open a pdf(the pdf size not bigger than 100k)
but when i open it, it take long time to load it and use so many memory,
also, i do not have this problem on using adobe reader 7, would any one know the reason?
    Thx for everyone.

Alright, i know, you can't bare to part with it, you need it, etc.etc...
try here, its an adobe reader speed up program
    http://software.bootblock.co.uk/?id=adobereaderspeedup
    It's a bit old though.
Also, do you have the stupid adobe startup program for reader running? This speeds up the loading of adobe reader while simultaneously slowing down your whole system. Great tradeoff.
