Adobe Reader XI Document Restrictions Summary

I am attempting to configure Adobe Reader XI for Enterprise Deployment.  Our current version of Reader (9.5.1) has the following Document Restriction settings for every document that is opened with Reader:
In version XI, those three options are all set to Allowed.  In our environment, it is unacceptable to have these marked as Allowed per requirements.
Can someone please assist me with a method by which we can configure Adobe Reader to mark these settings as Not Allowed for all documents opened with Adobe Reader?

With Adobe Acrobat you can set the security of documents.

    Hello
I have a number of PDFs that have user permissions.  When the files are opened in Adobe Reader the document's restriction summary lists differ and the form cannot be used as intended.
Example  Open PDF Properties /Document Protection/ Security/ Show Details                                                    Properties/ Document Restriction/Security/Summary (I have changed
the order to make easier for comparison.)
    Doc. Open Password         NO
    Permissions Pass Word    YES
Printing High Resolution     YES ......................................................................................... .....................................................YES
Changing the Document     ALLOWED ........................................................................................... ..........................................NOT ALLOWED
    Commenting                     ALLOWED.......................................................................................... ............................................NOT ALLOWED
Form Fill-in and Sign          ALLOWED ......................................................................................... ........................................... Fill ALLOWED........ Sign NOT ALLOWED
    Document Assembly         ALLOWED............................................................................................ ..........................................NOT ALLOWED
Content Copying                NOT  ALLOWED.................................................................................. ............................................NOT ALLOWED
Accessibility                      ENABLED.................................................................................. ....................................................YES  (Content copy for Accessibility)
Page Extraction                 NOT ALLOWED.................................................................................. ............................................NOT ALLOWED
    Template                           NOT SPECIFIED................................................................................ .............................................NOT ALLOWED.
I am mystified why the two lists differ and the document when in use seems to be controlled by the list on the right, which takes away some of the user rights.
Is there an explanation for this. I would have thought that as the documents were password protected for permissions such as commenting and signing Adobe Reader could not change this.
    Eric.

Yes, thats right. I used Open Office 3 to generate the pdf. I have also tried using pdftk and Adobe Distiller 5 with the same result.
Your statement implies, the 'Adobe Reader' features cannot be fully utilized without a valid Adobe Acrobat Pro.
This is a document to which I have the source. I have been able to create the pdf with the required set of permissions based on standards. But I am being hassled because I didn't generate it with Adobe Pro! Well, I suppose this must have been a business decision, but its one thats standards contrary and morally low!
Adobe just lost an avid Reader user. I shall circulate my findings within my work and social circles. Thanks to competition and open source, I am sure to find a standards compliant reader without much delay.

  • "Document Security" and "Document Restrictions Summary" different

Why is there a mismatch of permissions between 'Document Security' and Document Restrictions Summary'?
I have a pdf file generated with the following security options enabled -- Printing, Commenting (Annotations), fill-in, Content Modification, Assembly. Even though these options show up as enabled in 'Document Security' section of Security tab in Properties (File->Properties->Security->Document Security), they are different to the ones in 'Document Restriction Summary'.
This results in the inability to use highlighting/commenting tools of Adobe Acrobat Reader (ver. 7 and 8).
The pdf file is generated using Open Office 3.0 Writer from a file in a .doc (word) format. I have also tried using tools like 'pdftk' with same results.
According to my interpretation, the 'Document Restrictions Summary' should be in tandem with the 'Document Security'. Am I missing something obvious here? Could anyone kindly clarify how to enable the commenting feature and use it within Acrobat Reader (the free tool)?
Needless to say this will be environment friendly option, which Adobe has been a strong advocate of.

  • Document Restrictions Summary

    Dear all,
Are there anyone wanna help me, how to change "File properties" in Document Restrictions Summary :
    1) Content Copying from Allowed to Not allowed and,
    2) Content Copying for Accessibility from Allowed to Not allowed ?
Thank you for helping me in that case.
    Warm regard,
    Serwin

Document restrictions are controlled by the security policy applied to the PDF file (password, certificate or DRM encryption). You can use Adobe Acrobat to apply security, using the Tools Pane > Protection panel > Encrypt button. It's not possible to apply or change security in Adobe Reader.

  • Adobe Reader 8 - Document Security - conflicting information

A PDF has been created in a process where Security is applied by itext sharp; and all values should be set to Allowed.
When I check File > Properties > Security Tab (in adober reader 8) I can see:
    1) At the bottom a 'Document Restrictions Summary' section, but not all my values are "Allowed". So possibly something isn't right with the itext sharp process. However what is more confusing and the purpose of this post is that I can also see....
    2) At the top the Document Security section and a Show Details button. Selecting this brings up the Document Security dialog with another list of settings - some of which are a contradiction of those shown in the Summary list (point 1 above) e.g. Document Assembly is Not Allowed in 1) above, but is shown as Allowed in the separate Document Security dialog?????
I can't find any information on the difference between these two sections and which Value is correct.
    Any help appreciated.
    ej.

I just need to clarify this.
So if I see the Document Assembly not allowed in the Reader, and if I can assemble the document in the Acrobat, what does it mean?
I am submitting a government grant application, and they specify saying we have to submit the document with a setting that allow document assembly, commenting, editing, etc.  This is to allow reviewers to be able to comment on and assemble applications.
Should I be worried when I see in Reader that Document Assembly is Not Allowed?  Or is this OK, as far as Document Assembly is allowed in Acrobat?
    Thank you,

  • Document Restrictions Summary Inconsistant Between Acrobat and Reader

When I view a PDF's restrictions summary (File>Properties>Security) in Acrobat Pro it tells me that everything is allowed, yet that same PDF opened in Reader shows that assembly, commenting, signing, and template creation are not allowed.  Why?
I make maps for the company I work for and I want people to be able to use the Geo Measuring tool using the Reader only.  When I send them a map with no restrictions, Adobe Reader tells them that I've placed all sorts of restrictions on the document.  I don't get it.  Please help!

    When I view a PDF's restrictions summary
(File>Properties>Security) in Acrobat Pro it tells me that
everything is allowed, yet that same PDF opened in Reader shows that
assembly, commenting, signing, and template creation are not allowed.
    Why?
In this case Adobe Reader can't assembly, comment, sign, or create templates.

  • Why can adobe reader open documents preview can't?

I recently came across a pdf here for a friend, and was shocked when preview couldn't open it, but adobe reader xi could. I had it in my head that PDF was a standard. Has adobe added something to it? Or did they just insert a script to force me to use their product? Would upgrading  to mountain lion fix my problem? (newer Preview?)
    Preview version 5.03

I have it on the computer and it worked fine, I just didn't prefer the interface. (Also, possibly slower. Hard to measure)
Maybe I wasn't clear. I had guessed that the program that could only be opened by Acrobat was made with Acrobat.
What I wanted to know was why preview couldn't open it. Does every document created with Acrobat prevent other programs from opening it? It seems unlikely, as this is the first I have found with something like that. Is it a new thing with reader xi? How do they accomplish this? A change of headers? Some sort of non-standard encryption? An imbedded script?
I suppose it is improbable that anyone actually knows...

  • Adobe Reader / untagged document / assistive technology

    Hi,
I created a package for Adobe Reader 10.1 which then applies 10.1.3 during install.
I noitced when I open a PDF file on my Citrix servers, I get a message saying I'm opening an untagged document. I also get an message about Accessibility or Assistive Technology.
I didn't see any options in the Customization Wizard for these options.
Since these Citrix servers will be provisioned and we're not saving profiles, users will get this all the time.
Does anyone know how to turn these off in the package?
    Thanks

This is probably because Reader detects the presence of assistive technologies on the workstation. See the blog below for workarounds:

  • Adobe Reader - Scanned document upside down

I have scanned a letter (two pages) and the second page is showing as upside down, however the first page is the correct way up. I have tried rotating the document, but it only allows me to rotate both at the same time. Leaving me still with either the 2nd or 1st page the wrong way up. Any help would be great.
    Thanks.

You cannot rotate a document with Adobe Reader.
You can only rotate the view, that is something which affects all
pages in the currently open document. To actually rotate pages you'd
    need Acrobat.

  • Error message in an Adobe Reader PDF document

"There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader. If it is running, please exit and try again. (0:104)."
We have exited, reopened the file many times and have rebooted many time, but get same error.  The PDF file continues to refuse to download.  Any ideas on how to fix?
Also, Adobe Reader will not update to my laptop that is running Win7.

If you are seeing that when trying to download and view a PDF in a Browser, then you need to open the Adobe Reader program from the Applications folder and accept the license agreement. If you are getting that when trying to open the Adobe Reader application, then you should ask Adobe.
