Adobe Reader XI fail

After installing Adobe Reader XI, the program starts, shows the blank screen, then closes.

This works perfectly.
After trying the acrobatcleaner, reinstalling reader, going to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader and running Eula.exe and accepting the licence it still did not work.
I ran the protected script that Pat supplied and it worked first time.
Cheers Pat

When everything else fails, you may want to try the following:

  • Adobe Reader XI fails to launch after Install (Solution)

Earlier this week (5/29), I upgraded to Adobe Reader XI on Windows 7, and I experienced complete failure of the application to launch. Reinstalls were attempted as well as the Adobe Reader cleaning tools, but those processes had no effect. After doing some digging, I found the following error entries in the Windows Event Viewer:
Faulting application name: Eula.exe, version: 11.0.0.379, time stamp: 0x505fc5b0
Faulting module name: nvdxgiwrap.dll, version: 8.17.12.6696, time stamp: 0x4d4a29db
    Exception code: 0xc0000005
    Fault offset: 0x0000282a
    Faulting process id: 0x22f0
    Faulting application start time: 0x01ce5e2f79ed2056
    Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader\Eula.exe
    Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\CoProcManager\nvdxgiwrap.dll
    Report Id: b7a70181-ca22-11e2-a1d5-b9e8c6ec20d2
This was triggered every time the application was started (either by opening a PDF file or manually starting the application). The culprit here is another executable that is apparently being ran by Adobe Reader XI  called Eula.exe. This executable is exactly what you would expect it to be. It displays a End User License Agreement, but apparently does so poorly. To fix the issue, go to the directory indicated in your Windows Event Viewer error message (in the above it is C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, which is located next to "Faulting application path:" and open the Eula.exe application manually.
Read the EULA, agree to it, and you will be able to open Adobe Reader.

    Hi Inayal,
That message was from May 31, 2013, several months ago. That log entry no longer exists in my eventvwr. However, I did post the specific error message above, which showed me which application the Adobe Reader was trying to launch but failed, and that is how I figured out which application was holding up Adobe Reader. From what I remember, this is the only message that displayed in the eventvwr regarding Adobe Reader.
Yes, I do have an NVIDIA driver (NVIDIA NVS 4200M). Driver version is 9.18.13.1100 (1/10/2013). However, what I believe you're seeing here is an "Access Denied" failure (code 5) which is returned by CreateProcess in the Windows API. The typical cause of an Access Denied failure is not having both read and execute permissions for the directory/executable you are trying to launch. I would check the code where you are calling CreateProcess or CreateProcessA (if this is C++, if it's something else, then that function is likely calling CreateProcess or CreateProcessA) and make sure you are getting the appropriate elevation to start the application from the Program Files directory. My best guess is that this ShellExecute is running into problems inserted by Windows Vista/7/etc. through a technology called UAC. In order to run this other executable from a system directory (Program Files), you will probably have to ask for "runas" permissions which will prompt the user to elevate your permissions to execute another system executable (this is the user that owns the EULA executable on my machine).
You can read more about User Account Control here:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_Account_Control
Here's an example of using the "runas" verb with ShellExecute to run another executable and prompt the user for permission to execute another System executable:
In a native Win32 application the same "runas" verb can be added to a ShellExecute() or ShellExecuteEx() call.
    ShellExecute(hwnd, "runas", "C:\\Windows\\Notepad.exe", 0, 0, SW_SHOWNORMAL);
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,
    James

  • Adobe Reader Update Fails

What's the correct procedure for updating Adobe Reader from 9.1.0.163 to Version 9.1.3?
Upon attempting this update twice, an error message pops up that states,
"The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch."
Yet, the installed Version which I just got yesterday, August 5, 2009, is Version 9.1.0.163 and the Patch I downloaded today is AdbeRdrUpd913_all_incr.msp.
NOTE: The first time I installed Version 9.1.0.163, Adobe placed the files in a folder labled Reader 9.0; I then uninstalled Adobe Reader, Created a folder labled Reader 9.1 and re-installed 9.1.0.163 into that folder.

Try doing the Update from the HELP TAB in the Reader program window...
That was the only way it worked for me...
If you try to update from the Pop Up telling you Available Updates it does not work...
Unsure why but I could only update thru the Reader Program window only..

  • Adobe Reader Updates Fail - Always. Why?

No Adobe Reader has ever updated successfully on any computer I have ever owned. Other parties' product updates invariably succeed. To update, I must completely uninstall Adobe Reader and re-install from scratch. I have this problem only with this product. Moreover, Adobe Reader updates have never worked on any computer I have ever owned, bar none.
    Why just Adobe Reader?

Are you talking about updates or upgrades. Upgrades require the download of the new version, typically uninstall of the old version, and then the install of the new version. If updates, just what errors are you getting? Just saying it does not work does not help us help you. You might also ask in the Reader forum.

  • Adobe reader 8 failed to read large files

i have got annoying issue, actually I have installed adobe reader8 recently.
it reads small files(less than 2MB) without any problem. but when I try to open files of size more than 2 MB it get hanged including all other processes. then I do have to open task manager to terminate this.

  • Adobe reader install failed AND......

I'M REALLY ANGRY.  I've had a program on my HP desktop ever since I bought it that I could always open pdf files.  I assume it was Adobe Acrobat.  A few days ago, I could still open all my files, but I could no longer print them.  They would just go into limbo and nothing ever happened.  Everything else I have prints fine.  SO, I uninstalled Adobe PDF reader and tried to reload the fre version out there, first Adobe X, then that didn't work, so I did it again and got Adobe free reader.  NOW, I find that ALL OF MY pdf files were converted in the process to Word file.  This PISSES me off.  How can I get them back to the pdf files that they were?  If I lose all of these, there will be big trouble.  Please, someone email me at [removed]

You haven't said what OS you are using but to me it sounds like you simply have to reset your file associations to recognize Reader as the program used to open pdf files (the files themselves are probably just fine).

  • Adobe reader install fails and video blanks

Had to reinstall XP due to Trojan problem.  Now I am unable to reinstall either Flash or Reader.  Download is ok but install only gets half way before blanking the video.  The monitor status goes to yellow.  Other aps have been downloaded and installed ok.
Computer has to sit for a while before the video reinitializes.  Everything else seems to work.  Video is stable until I try to install these Adobe products.  Computer shop that did the work was no help.

Screen going black/green/yellow indicates a problem with the graphics driver; install the latest device driver for your display adapter - see http://forums.adobe.com/thread/945765
As for the installers going only to 30/40%: download and run the offline installers

  • Adobe Reader install fails (4 trys)

When installing an update (install_reader10_en_mssa_aih.exe) it fails givinge me an error saying it cannot access C:/Config.Msi.
Several times I have tried corrected the permissions to that directory only to find at some point during the install the permissions get changed and ownership becomes "unable to display current owner" and the install errors out.
I have many documents I access thru reader and now I cannot access any because the install, apparently, deleted the prior version. Help!
    Thanks,
    John

Thanks -- you pointed to a solution but a simpler one worked.
    1. Changed Config.Msi name to Config.Msi.Old
    2. Shut down all running apps including those started at start-up (but not including any services or background programs).
    3. Re-ran install successfully.
