Adobe Reader XI only works if you choose "run as administrator"

hi
I am running Windows 7 (64) and I cannot open Adobe Reader XI with a standard double click. It only opens if I right-click and select "Run as Administrator". This means I cannot select PDF files and open them with a double-click. I have to open reader and then browse files, which is a pain! Can anyone help?
thanks

hi
When I double-click on reader in normal mode, nothing seems to happen but the AcroRd32.exe does appear in the process list. I am using Reader XI.
Thanks

  • Setting Adobe Reader to only work in IE?

Is there a way to make it to where I can have two pdf readers. I only want adobe to read embedded pdfs on web pages? We use another pdf reader for searching through huge documents as it's a lot quicker. Either I need to figure out how to make adobe reader 9 search through documents quicker or figure out how to make it only open up embedded pdfs. Our users have to search through huge pdf documents and some of them also have to look at embedded pdf forms on web pages. Let me know if you have any questions.

Do you have the MUI version of Reader, or just the Portuguese version?
MUI: Edit | Preferences | Lanuage
otherwise uninstall Reader, then download the English Reader version from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

  • I cannot get adobe reader xi to work in google chrome running vista

I have tried everything to get Adobe reader to work in my google chrome and it wont work? I am using Chrome and Vista - I have allowed the plug in- uninstalled and reinstalled many times and when I open reader- it says Adobe reader has closed and it shuts down.

Try disabling Protected Mode in Adobe Reader [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].

  • How's Adobe Media Encoder CS5 working for you?

This is the first thread on the new Adobe Media Encoder forum, so I thought that it would be appropriate to open it up by just asking a general question:
How is Adobe Media Encoder CS5 working for you?
Please be sure to install the Adobe Media Encoder CS5 (5.0.1) update. Instructions for updating are included in this post about the Premiere Pro CS5 (5.0.2) update.
If you're having a specific problem that you want help with, or if you have a specific question, please start your own thread on this forum. This thread is intended for general feedback about how Adobe Media Encoder CS5 is working out for you.

First of all IT IS GREAT and I use it a lot I also used the CS4 version before!
But I have to report two issues about version CS5:
    1. I bought the English version of the production premium CS5 but I have a German operating system (win7 64bit) all other adobe application are in English except Adobe Media Encoder it shows up in German language! Not a show stopper but should be fixed.
    2. Recently I wanted to encode a video into an h264. I made some custom settings for that and the encoded video played very stuttered in Microsoft Media Player 12 (like 12fps instead of 25fps [settings were set correct in AME]) but fine in Quicktime and VLC Player (execpt for the gamma bug but that's an other story...)
I did a lot of testings and found the issue! Sometimes when you change a lot of the h264 settings (don't know when it happens exactly) Media Encoder seems to not set the fps correctly allthough AME shows 25fps in it's settings this setting is not encoded into the final file!
Quicktime and VLC seems not to care about the missing information but Windows Media Player gets confused.
It does not happens when using a preset in AME it only happens when changing a lot and using custom settings!
You can see the missing fps setting when right clicking the encoded file and choose properties (german:Eigenschaften) switch the tap to Details and there is no fps setting in the stuttering files but when encoded with a preset in AME there is the correct 25fps setting!
I have attached a screenshots to demonstrate it:
My workaround so far was to choose a preset with 25fps and close to my desired settings and change as few as possible - Fingers crosses and with a chance of 3/4 I was able to encode a working file containing the fps setting in it which plays perfect in Microsoft Media Player!
I hope you take a look into this issue because if you have a long file and you have to encode it again because it fails....... uiuiui
Thanks Todd for the possibility to give this direct feedback to Adobe
    This is real support!

  • I am having a problem opening pdf document.  I get error message: "Adobe Reader has stopped working"

I am having a problem opening pdf document.  I get error message: "Adobe Reader has stopped working" then I get Windows is looking on line for a solution, but then my document closes. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe Reader XI, rebooted my computer but this did not help.  I get the same message. What to do?

Can you open Reader by itself?  If so, check if disabling Protected Mode improves the situation [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].

  • Adobe reader has stopped working, any solutions?

I am having an issue with Adobe reader X.
I open the program and it works normally, nothing to repport.
Each time I close the program I receive the error message "Adobe Reader has stopped working)
    I am on Win 7 (32bit) SP1
    any ideas/solutions for this situation?
    Thank you in advance

I have been having this problem recently (Vista HP fully updated 32 bit) with Reader X. This was a clean install and no 3rd party reg cleaners etc have ever been used. I use Microsoft Security Essentials.
This problem seems intermitent. Yesterday it happened nearly every time I closed a pdf. Today it hasn't done it once so far. When the problem first happened a week or so back I tried the solutions offered (turn off protected mode) and it did not work. I tried "repair Adobe install" and that too did nothing. Windows problem reports keep saying Adobe updates available... they are not.
Apart from the message saying that it crashed on closing there is no outward sign of anything amiss. I did however open task manager while the error box was still displayed and it showed two Adobe processes as still running. When I used the error box option to "close program" these processes ended.
I can't help but feel these problems coincided with a recent round of updates although that may of course, be just that, a coincidence.

  • Adobe Reader doesn't work after windows 7 update

    Hello,
My Adobe Reader X was working fine, until one night where Windows 7 automatically updated, and after that Adobe Reader doesn't work anymore. It doesn't respond AT ALL when I click on it, and I cannot view PDF files anymore.
I uninstalled it, and re-installed it --- still doesn't work. I tried downloading version 9, but still it doesn't work.
I also tried to do system restore, but somehow it won't let me --- it says it failed to do so.
When I try to open PDF files in IE 10, it says "There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader..." and an error code of 103:103.
    Could anyone help me?
    Thanks!

You can try running cleaner on your machine
    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
and then again install latest Reader from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

  • Adobe Reader 11 stopped working and now will not install

For some reason my Adobe Reader 11 stopped working today when I tried to use it so I figured I would try to re-install it. Well, re-installing it helped none. The same error keeps re-occuring. Here is a screenshot of the error message I keep getting:

    Any solutions?
    Thanks!

You can try using this tool to remove all traces of Reader:
    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Then, you may download the offline Reader installer from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else.

  • Adobe Reader 11 wont work...

I downloaded Adobe Reader 11 and now I can't open ANY pdf's. When I try, I get an error message and Adobe Reader shuts itself down. Eerything was working perfectly until I downloaded the new Reader... HELP!!!

Graffiti, Good point. Here is the entire error message:
    Adobe Reader has Stopped Working.
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
Pretty generic message.... I had to uninstall Adobe Reader and download a generic free reader so I could at least print the .pdf's I needed.

  • Adobe reader has stopped working when opening tracker [vista & reader x]

    Hello all,
I'm a developer and im constantly uninstalling and reinstalling reader x and acrobat pro x, but i typically have both installed.  Recently, i uninstalled both reader x and acrobat x via Add/Remove Programs in windows Vista, and then later reinstalled them both, and now when i click the adobe tracker icon in my systray, it says adobe reader has stopped working.  I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling and then rebooting, but that doesn't seem to help.  Event viewer says:
Faulting application AcroRd32.exe, version 10.0.1.434, time stamp 0x4d456f48, faulting module mshtml.dll, version 9.0.8080.16413, time stamp 0x4d4cefa9, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x002be0d0, process id 0x1674, application start time 0x01cc04f02e5354a8.
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks!

This is strange. Can you try a couple of things:
    1. Try launching Tracker in Acrobat. In Acrobat X, you will find it in Comment pane->Review->Track Reviews
    2. Launch Reader in non-sandbox mode. For this, launch Reader and uncheck the option 'Enable Protected Mode at startup' in Reader Preferences->General. Close and re-launch Reader. Now launch Tracker.
Does it still crash in both the cases?

  • I have uninstalled and reinstalled the most current edition of Adobe Reader, including the patch. When I open a PDF file, the screen is first grey, then viewable, but the message "Adobe Reader has stopped working" comes up. How do I remedy this?

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the most current edition of Adobe Reader (11.9), including the patch. When I open a PDF file, the screen is first grey, then viewable, but then the message "Adobe Reader has stopped working" comes up. How do I remedy this?

    RR,
One thing often tried first is to create a new document and File>Place the corrupted one to see how much may be rescued that way (remember to tick Paste remembers Layers in the Layer palette flyout/dropdown first, and to untick it afterwards).
Here is a website where you can see whether it can rescue the file, and if it can, you may pay for a subscription to have it done,
    http://www.recoverytoolbox.com/buy_illustrator.html
    and another similar website,
    http://markzware.com/adobe-software/fix-illustrator-file-unknown-error-occurred-pdf2dtp-fi le-recovery/
As far as I remember, the former is for Win and the latter for Mac.
Here are a few pages about struggling with it yourself:
    http://daxxter.wordpress.com/2009/04/16/how-to-recover-a-corrupted-illustrator-ai-file/
    http://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/troubleshoot-damaged-illustrator-files.html
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/500/cpsid_50032.html
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/500/cpsid_50031.html
    http://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/enable-content-recovery-mode-illustrator.html
Failing a full recovery, hopefully you have one or more earlier versions and/or bits of artwork saved before it happened.

  • With APTT and Adobe Reader QTP spy on a PDF document causes Adobe Reader to stop working

    Hi,
    We have the below configurations,
    QTP Version 11
    Adobe Reader 10.1.2
Adobe PDF Test Toolkit for Adobe Reader 10.1.1 onwards
    Windows 7 64 bit OS
    Internet Explorer 8
QTP shows AcroQTP in the Add-in page.
But when an object Spy is done on a PDF document we get the message "Adobe Reader has stopped working" and it crashes.
Please provide me a solution for this problem
    Thanks,
    Kruthika.

    Hi
We have lately found that due to some of our changes in Reader 10.1.2 release, the plugins have broken.
They still continue to work with Adobe Reader 10.1.0 and 10.1.1 ON ANY ENVIRONMENT WITH ANY QTP VERSION.
For the time being, before Adobe roll out a fix, we would suggest you not to upgrade the Adobe Reader versions.
    Thanks and Regards
