Adobe Reader XI very slow

When you open the files on the network and then you try to open adobe reader in offline mode it takes minutes before it will start ...
Thanks
Marco

This can be solved by watching for a Popup balloon in the upper right corner of the Reader screen.  The balloon contains an electric lightbulb and reads "Click on Tools to convert PDF documents to Word or Excel".  Click the X within the balloon to close this popup and the Reader application will perform at a more normal speed.  Some dumb AS$ programmer's bright idea really slowed things down for a bunch of Terminal Server users (Windows 2008R2).  Next I need to figure out how to disable this "feature" from the outset.  I hope this works for others.  Cheers!

  • Adobe reader x very slow opening files over vpn to samba share

Takes 2 to 3 minutes to open a file - Acrobat Pro v7 accesses immediately - downgrade
to Acrobat 7 reader works fine - true on XP and Windows 7 - all updates installed.

I think I have isolated the source of this problem. It's the Pitstop Professional 9 plug in. I un-installed this, and everything opens quicker than greased lightning. I re-installed it and it's back to slowsville.
Unfortunately Pitstop is essential to my workflow.
Until recently I did my pre-press on a Mac G5 with Acrobat Pro 7 and Pitstop 6.5. I never had this problem with slow file opening. But it seems that the delays would occur when I used the plug-in with large complex files.. So it would open files as fast as you'd expect from an elderly machine. But starting to use Pitstop would result in a prolonged period of staring at a spinning beachball.
I wonder is there any way to stop the Pitstop plug-in from initializing until it is used? So the plug-in stays inert until you select the tool from from the menus.

  • Adobe Reader 9 - Extremely slow to open a pdf

I just upgraded from Adobe Reader 8 to Adobe Reader 9. I use Windows XP and Internet Explorer. When I try to open a pdf, it takes about a minute to open. This never happened with the previous versions.
Why is this happening? What can I do? Reinstall?
    Thanks,
    Lee

I upgraded. Now have 9.4.0 but it's still very slow on opening pdf files. It also stops when trying to go to page 2. Mysterious.

  • Adobe Reader XI 11 slow in browser but fast in Reader..

We are required to use IE 8, within IE we have an intranet which references PDF files.
If I open the PDF file from the network \\fqdn\share\xyz.pdf it works and is very fast (in PDF Viewer)
If I open the same pdf, from the same path inside of IE 8, it opens but then freezes for 6-25 sec.
I cant change browsers, I cant change versions or readers.
    Any idea how to resolve?
My first thought was to have it open in the reader vs the browser, but the checkmark to disable opening in browser does not exist.  Disabling the plugin also did not work.
    Environment
    Server 2003 R2
    IE 8
    Reader 11

    Fixed my own issue.
Do the following steps to disable Adobe Reader browser plug-in in IE8:
    1. Launch IE8
    2. Click on Tools menu > Manage Add-ons
    3. Select the "Toolbars and Extensions" under "Add-on Types"
    4. Select the "Run without permission" from the drop-down menu under "Show"
    5. Select the "Adobe PDF Reader"
    6. Click on the "Disable" button
    7. Click on "Close" button to dismiss the "View and Manage your Internet Explorer add-ons"
    Fixed my issue.

  • Adobe Reader XI is slow to open/print first file

My Adobe Reader XI slows down my computer whenever I open or print the first PDF every day.  If I open the first one, wait for the slowness, then open another PDF, it opens just fine.  Same with printing...  If I print one file, it slows my computer for a couple minutes, but if I then print it again, or print another PDF, it prints right away.
I have completely uninstalled/reinstalled Adobe Reader/Shockwave/Air/etc., and that didn't help.  I'm not sure where to look next.  Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Cheers!

  • Firewire drive read/write very slow

I have a Western Digital firewire 400 drive which is writing very slowly. 200 mb file took about 4 minutes to copy. I figure it must be a drive issue, but wondered if there is the chance it's some system thing. I used Disk Utility to check and repair it, but to no avail. The data is still there, it's just very slow to write to it. Copying off it is no problem though (which is good!)
Does anyone know if this can be addressed or is it just a bad drive?

Three years seems pretty bad to me. I don't expect drive to fail that quickly. What do you mean by "those WD drives do that"? Do you mean that WD drives are not so good, or those cheaper end ones? I was going to replace it with a WD studio drive, which is formatted for Mac and has FW 800 and a five year warranty as opposed to one year, which suggests to me that it's a better quality item, but at least if it isn't, it has a long warranty.

  • Adobe Reader 9 unreasonably slow startup

I have Adobe Reader 9.2 installed on a computer where it takes around one minute to start the application when you click a pdf. This is not caused by a lack of processing power - the acroread32 process is at 0% cpu for all but the last few seconds (and no other process is stealing cpu). Once the application is running it does so fine, and if you click to open a second pdf, it will open up instantly. But if you close adobe reader it will take another minute to start the next time.
It seems to me like adobe reader is waiting for something that either happens after a long time or there is a timeout. Is there a way to locate this problem?
I have tried reinstalling the application. I have a small suspicion that there might be some residue left from earlier installs, so my second question is if there is a way to completely wipe out all traces of earlier adobe reader and adobe acrobat installs (I have had acrobat professional 6 installed on the same machine earlier).
    Any help is much appreciated!

I should add that the machine is running Windows XP SP3.

  • Adobe Photoshop CS6 Very Slow On Rendering Type

I have a notebook with specification as mentioned below :
    Lenovo Ideapad Y470P
    2nd generation Intel Core i7-2670QM Processor( 2.2GHz 1333MHz 6MB)
    Windows 7 Ultimate x64
    AMD Radeon HD 7690 2GB
    8.0GB PC3-10600 DDR3 SDRAM 1333 MHz
    750GB 5400
I'm using Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit) for doing my job.
Right now, i have a task to create a banner with dimension 800 x 900 Centimeters with Resolution 300 DPI and Color Mode RGB 16 Bit.
The file size when blank is about 56.1 GB.
The problem is, when i add some text with Horizontal Type Tool and click on the Move Tool, the Rendering Type screen show up and take a very very long time to finished.
I have made some configurations to my Photoshop that i found on Adobe Forum, but the problem still persisted.
Some configurations that i've made is :
    - Turn off the Automatically Save Recovery Information
    - Set Maximize PSD and PSB File Compatibility to Ask
    - Set the Memory Usage to 95%
    - Set the Cache Levels to 8 and Cache Tile Size to 1024K
    - Set the Graphics Advanced Settings to Drawing Mode Advanced, and Check the option Use Graphics Processor To Accelerate Computation, and Uncheck the option Anti-Alias and 30 Bit Display
    - Set the Scratch Disk to another partition ( C:System D:PageFile E:Data F:Scratch Disk)
And after all of that configuration, my Photoshop still slow when Rendering Type.
Could you give me some tips to solve my problem?
    Thanks

300 ppi for a banner that size is categorically not normal.  Guaranteed.
Get specific instructions from the shop that is going to print it.
You keep confusing ppi with dpi.  The resolution of an image file really is expressed in ppi, pixels per inch, not "dpi" which is dots per inch.  The precise terminology is as follows:
DPI = Dots per inch = units used to measure the resolution of a printer
LPI = Lines per inch = The offset printing 'lines' or dots per inch in a halftone or line screen.
PPI = Pixels per inch = the number of pixels per inch in screen/scanner file terms.
Here's a link to a discussion that may interest you:
    http://graphicdesign.stackexchange.com/questions/487/what-ppi-should-a-large-format-artwor k-for-print-be-done-at
It includes the following chart and subsequent comments :
"The rule of thumb is that we need 1.5 to 2 times the LPI in PPI to get acceptable results.
    "Viewing Distance   Present Study
20 feet    greater than 10 LPI
18 feet    18.75 LPI or greater
16 feet    18.75 LPI or greater
14 feet    37.5 LPI or greater
12 feet    37.5 LPI or greater
10 feet    50 LPI or greater
8 feet     65 LPI or greater
6 feet     85 LPI or greater
4 feet     100 LPI or greater
2 feet     133 LPI or greater
1 foot     150 LPI or greater
6 inches   150 LPI or greater
"Presumably, for a banner 3m x 5m, you'd be standing at a minimum of, say, 10 feet. (Just eyeballing the wall here.) So, by this table, you'll need 50 LPI minimum. That would mean your raster graphics should be about 100 PPI, or 75 PPI at 12-14 feet. Considering that and the fact that 2x LPI is pretty conservative for reproducing fidelity (often 1.5xLPI is "enough"), this agrees with [the given] advice of 75 PPI being acceptable."
Talk to your printer.  I suspect they will want a file at under 75 ppi, or even much less.  Follow the printer's advice/request.

  • Adobe Updater6 is very slow downloading updates

    Hi,
I just got a new Win 7 64 bit machine and installed my copy of Photoshop CS4.
The Adobe Updater is downloading the auto updates very very slowly - tells me it will take over 200 hours to update 260 odd MB of updates. I have a 4Mb/sec ADSL connection. Please help. I tried Googling this issue and see many other people have given up on the Adobe Updater. Is this correct? Should I disable it somehow and download each update manually!? What a mission!
    Your help is appreciated.

Thanks for the speedy reply - I wasn't expecting one so quickly!
Yes, I did try that and it seemed to speed up a little, but not much. It seems to be working, just very very slowly!
I am busy downloading manually at the moment, but it is a real pain.
I don't understand why the updater is choking. It is almost as if the downloader built into the updater is choked or the download website is running on empty or something!
Am I the only one with this problem or is it a general problem with the updater?
At the moment, the only thing I am using the updater for is to tell me what needs updating - then I look for it manually! A bit silly for a very pricey world class piece of software!

  • Adobe Illustrator CS4 very slow to open/use in student setting

Hello all. We have students running Adobe CS4 with mobile accounts on 10.5.6 machines. The performance of CS4 opening at times, and during use is super slow, unusable. The lab is on its own separate subnet, and there are about 30 machines. There is an xServe that ONLY manages these machines, no others as these are the only Macs in the school. The network itself is less than 2 years old, the network itself is running top notch. Its not a speed issue. They are 2 year old silver iMacs. They were working fine, then with more use, they slowed up using Adobe CS 4 apps. All other applications etc are working normally. There have been no new updates or changes.
To anyone that has had experience using CS4 in a Mobile account student setting. Please try and help me out.

I've been having the same problem now for a few weeks and its killing me. Not sure what I can do, but in Photoshop and Bridge, the only programmes I use on a daily basis, it takes me forever to enter file information.
    My specs are:
    eMachines ET-XXXX
    Windows 7 Home Premium
    4GB RAM
    500GB HDD

  • Adobe Reader X - very sluggish

I've found X to be very sluggish on my 32 bit Vista 4gb RAM Intel Core 2 Due @ 2.33GHz. Downgraded back to 9.4 which is very fast, espsecially with PDFs containing multiple subfiles.

One more thing: if you view the task pane in a Reader doc, it's impossible or very difficuly to turn it off, unless you close Reader.
Once again, this is very poor design.  You should be able to close it in an obvious way, like a menu option or an X on the task pane.

  • Why is adobe reader slow after installing windows 8

My adobe reader is very slow after upgrading to windows 8

    Try some basic troubleshooting:
    (A) Try reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    (B) Try reset all settings
    Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings
    (C) Setup as new (data will be lost if you do not have backup)
    Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings

  • Adobe Reader 10.1.3 Performance Problems (Open PDF from Outlook)

    Hello all,
Adobe Reader 10.1.3 Multi Language version was rolled out to several hundreds of Win XP SP3 client machines.
Now users start reporting that Adobe Reader starts very slow. Most users complain that opening a PDF attached to an email in MS Outlook takes very long (10 sek up to several minutes).
In some forums I found problems with PDFs in Outlook in versions before 10.1.1.
Does anyone has an idea what causes this slow response?
Is there anything we can test to come closer to the problem?
    Thanks for help.

I do not have this problem with Reader 10.1.6 or 11.0.2 on Outlook 2007.
WhatI would do if I encountered such a problem: observe the process with Process Monitor.  This could give me some clues what is going on, compared to an earlier Reader version that did not cause this problem.
