Adobe Reviewer buttons interfere with Captivate simulation

Utilizing the Reviewer buttons (forward, back, Add comment) affects the simulation in Captivate 4.  For example, after adding a comment, the buttons on the screen no longer work.  Utilizing the back and forward buttons can result in you getting stuck on a page and not being able to move forward either by clicking the Forward button or by following the instructions in the training.  The only workaround we have found is to close Adobe Reviewer, reopen the .crev file, and go through the training without clicking on any of the Adobe Reviewer buttons.  Do you have any insight into this issue?
Note: our training is a simulation where the user needs to click on a button or click box to progress to the next slide.
I am also wondering whether this issue occurs in Publish mode?  Should users utilize both the Captivate buttons and the instructions on the screen to move through the slides?

Hello TheMan and welcome to community,
The issue is with the software compatibility with firefox.
Kindly install the updated hot key and power management driver and check if it resolve the issue.

  • Adobe programs dont work with Captivate to capture/record

    Hi there.
    I've had problems with Captivate capturing screen recording from Adobe Premier cs5, where it would not show any of the video which was being edited.  I figured this was just the video issue and worked around it by just not showing the video preview for the small thing i was demonstrating, it wasnt a big deal if it was just isolated to this.
    Next I was using Adobe Photoshop and setting up a little demo on how to fill objects.  Captivate did not pick up the cursor, it shows a ugly black box.
    I also want it to pick up the full motion of my mouse cursor in photoshop, but it doesnt come close, so as im narrating how to do something, my actual mouse is not showing at the same time as im saying it which is essential when you are trying to show a way to FILL a certain area of a shape.
    I had plans to do many things with captivate, now it seems i am going to have to switch back and forth with Camtasia, convert to AVI the parts that Captivate does not handle, and then import them into Captivate to make my demonstrations look seemless???
    I have a lot planned for Adove CS5 Flash, is this also going to give me the same problem?
    I have already searched for a solution tot his, and everyone has said that captivate does not capture things where there is overlayed content etc etc...
    This strikes me slightly insane when Camtasia does it so well, and Im using an Adobe program to provide training on Adobe programs...
    If anyone knows any delevopers for captivate on here, can they PLEASE look at this right now as im slapping myself wondering why this is the case and how im going to plan to do all the simulations half with camtasia and half with captivate on Adobe products we use at my work.....
    Oh see the below link around slide 42 to get an example of what im saying here..
    http://www.blcstudents.com.au/tutorials/col-fill/colour-fill.htm
    or you can check out
    http://www.blcstudents.com.au/tutorials/wp/?page_id=35 its at the bottom of the page.
    Anyway im worried about what to be doing at this point, I got captivate for adobe products, not for other products and programs out there.
    Cheers for any help,
    Ben.

    Just out of curiosity, are you able to modify the mouse cursor AFTER doing the captures once you're back in Captivate editing them?
    For example, are you able to select the mouse for the slides where it added this wierd square cursor, then choose the normal arrow cursor from the Properties tabl > Options accordion?
    Or are you able to delete the mouse from these same slides, and add it back again, and then select the cursor you want?
    Have you found that there is nothing you can do to change this particular cursor on these slides?

  • Can the Adobe Photoshop Layer Support with Captivate 4 be use to show a Zoom & Pan Effect?

    I'm working with a client that is interested in creating the "Zoom & Pan" effect you get with Camtasia using Captivate 4.  I'm not finding enough information to support that this is possible with Captivate 4.  The Photoshop Layer Support feature with Captivate 4 comes across as something that may work to some degree however, it is again unclear if it would definitely work to give the zoom & pan effect I am looking for.  Would anyone mind explaining this feature in greater detail and/or offering any ideas for how I can show the zoom & pan effect in Captivate 4?

    Hi there
    LOL, good luck with that!
    NOTHING in Captivate will achieve what you are seeing in Camtasia. Sorry, there simply is no comparison. Sure, Captivate has panning while recording, but what you end up with are several herky jerky snapshots of suddenly being in a different screen area. Sort of reminds me of walking through a room while slowly closing and opening your eyes. In other words, you are seeing version 1 of the panning feature. We hope it improves, but it's not there yet.
    If you have Camtasia, you could combine it with Captivate for some nice and interesting effects and have the best of both worlds! I do that.

  • Button Help with Captivate 6

    When I am installing a button in captivate 6, I am trying to have that button be linked to a pdf form of another captivate presentation. I click the Open URL option for the action of the button and I click the project that I want to open, but instead of the captivate link, I click the pdf format that I created for that other project. When I view the main project, with all of the buttons/links, It will not open any of the pdfs that I have linked to the button.

    Hi there,
    Make sure that Captivate is updated to 6.0.1.240 or 6.1.0.319.
    In which Format have you published your Parent project (.swf, HTML5 etc.)?
    and where are those Published PDFs kept? are they in the same folder where the Main Project is published or are they on another location ?
    When you have inserted button, which option did you use to open those PDFs Current, new, top or Parent?
    Are you viewing the Published Project locally? or have you uploaded it somewhere?
    Thanks.

  • Volume buttons interfere with firefox plugins

    Hey there ThinkPad community!
    Recently I have noticed that when using the Adobe Reader Plugin for firefox the volume won't change anymore upon pressing the volume buttons. The onscreen display pops up showing the current volume yet it won't increase or decrease. When pressing the mute button nothing happens at all. This behavior only occurs when the focus is set on the plugin (i.e. I have clicked somewhere on the PDF)
    Also when I am watching a flash video like this one: German News (and again the focus is on the plugin) odd things like video pausing will happen whenever I press or hold one of the three volume buttons. At least then the volume does change.
    Is this a problem of firefox or is it one of the ThinkPad drivers?
    I am using firefox 11.0
    Adobe Acrobat plugin version 10.1.1.33
    Shockwave Flash plugin version 11.1.102.62
    on a X201t with Windows 7 Professional 64bit SP1
    I will tell You the versions of the "volume button control programs" if You tell me which ones those are.

  • Does "Adobe Premium Elements" work with Captivate 5.5

    I saw how Premium Elements can work with images and videos to zoom in on areas of a picture and wanted to see if this could be done on a Captivate 5.5 simulation.  I have used the zoom area in captivate and it is OK but loses some clarity.  Thought it might be a nice add on when developing training.  Is this possible?   I was told there is another way in Captivate to "zoom in" besides zoom area that acted like the zoom lens on a camera - so maybe there is something else you can recommend.
    Regards, Sheri

    Plug your phone into iTunes. Un-check those apps from the apps page and sync. This should remove them. You can then delete them from the iTunes library, re-download them and sync them, or download them directly to the phone from the app store.
    Have you tried a re-set of the phone? (press and hold power and home until you see the apple logo. Ignore the swipe to shutdown message.) You will not lose any data doing this.

  • Quiz Results Page - Review Button Action

    Greetings All,
    Does anybody know if there is a way to access the variables/actions that are associated with the retake/review buttons on the quiz review page?
    For example, I would love to be able to do something like this: assign cpCmndReviewQuiz 1. That would lock-in the last answers selected on the quiz and navigate back to the first quiz question.  This is the same behavior as the quiz review button on the Captivate-generated review page.
    Alternatively, I would like to know if there is a way to lock the quiz so the last set of responses are frozen.
    Oh, BTW - captivate 6.. Thanks

    Hi Lilybiri,
    I would like to develop a 'custom' quiz review screen.  Unfortunately, there are very limited options as to what you can add to the 'stock' review page. For example, you can neither add a button, nor change the behavior of the buttons that are generated with that page. It would be nice if I could add a 'print certificate' button when the learner passes the exam.
    When developing my own 'custom' review page, I ran into some interesting behavior.
    I setup a quiz and allowed the learner 3 attempts to pass the quiz:
    Using the 'stock' review page: If the learner passes the quiz in under 3 attempts, then clicks the review button, the learner is returned to the first quiz question, and they can review their responses to each quiz question.  Their responses are locked, and cannot be changed.
    Using my 'custom' review page: I placed 'review' button on the final slide of the course. The button simply shows the navigation bar, unlocks TOC, then returns the learner to the first quiz question.  If the learner passes the quiz in under 3 attempts, then clicks this 'custom' review button, they are taken back to the first quiz question.  The only problem is that the learner's responses aren't indicated, like when you press the 'stock' review button.  The quiz and all of the responses are reset.
    Anyway, it would be nice to know if there is a way to mimic the behavior of the 'stock' review button, but it doesn't sound like it's possible.
    Thanks - hope my post makes some sense...

  • How to Disable the Add & Review Button

    How to Disable the Add & Review Button
     *Updated with the correct ISF  code (the previous code, in case you saved it, was to actually  escape apostrophes.  That will be posted  seperately.
    Note that this solution might not work in your environment - you might have to modify it based on your installation.
    Enjoy!
    Common_disableAddAndReviewButton()
       if ( Moment == 'ordering' )
            var theForm = document.forms[0];
            var buttonCt = 0;
            for( i = 0; i < theForm.elements.length; i++ )
                 if( theForm.elements[i].type == "submit" )
                    if ( buttonCt == 0 || buttonCt == 2 )
                        theForm.elements[i].disabled = true;
                         theForm.elements[i].style.visibility="hidden";
                     buttonCt++;

    This is GREAT - I added a new Java Script and set it to "when form is loaded" and when I did some test reqs - no Add & Review button !!!!

  • Can Captivate Reviewer 2.0 be used with Captivate 4?

    I've attempted to use Captivate Reviewer 2.0 with some CP4 projects and I get "wrong format" or "corrupt file messages".
    Reviewer 1.0 works fine. Could my Reviewer 2.0 possibly be corrupt or is it only supposed to work with CP5?
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Hi Dave
    Adobe are well known for creating things that are only forward compatible. So I'd be shocked to find that Reviewer 2 works just dandy with Captivate 4.

  • Adobe Captivate 4 & Adobe Reviewer

    We are trying to share Adobe Captivate files using Adobe Reviewer, and while I am able to send it to colleagues and have them open the files, when they click the "Save" button in the Captivate Reviewer, I am not able to see the comments. Instead, they have to send me the .xml files which I then have to import. Is this a bug of some sort, or are we doing something wrong?
    Thank you.
    Jeffrey

    Apparently, that is by design.  I was having the same problem and when I looked in Adobe Captivate Reviewer help, it indeed specified that the .xml file is what reviewers should sent to the author.

Working with Captivate App Packager the pane to import from Adobe Edge is missing, so not clear how to import. Overall it seems unstable. Am I doing something wrong? Trying to evaluate before buying so working on a trial version (14 days left), but a bit concerned with Captivate 8 Performance. Please help! :-

    Hi Vikram and Lilybiri,
    Thanks for your responses :-)
    I'm working on Windows 8.1... I think that I may have found the issue... I was saving the file in a project directory rather than the default My Captivate Projects folder...
    Perhaps Captivate was struggling to find resources it needed?
    It hasn't crashed for a while now, though it is struggling - I'm working with a 54 slide PPT presentation that is linked and it takes a very long time to interact.
    Sometimes it says that I've removed slides, which I haven't?
    Best,

  • Exit button issue in Captivate 5

    Hi,
    This is regarding the exit button on the playback controls. I have been using Captivate from version 2. Recently, started using version 5. When I published my simulation, the exit button is not working as earlier. It is also not working from- web server(IIS, Apache), when opened as pop-up as well. In local too however not working. I tried in both IE 7 and Firefox latest version.
    I have seen the response from Adobe on this issue on this forum. It was quite surprising; it did not talk about the solution at all;
    What I am not sure about is -
    1. Why the exit button was working earlier versions.. why is it not working in latest?
    2. Why should when simple code like top.close(); works fine (when coded inside the Captivate)?
    3. Why is Adobe not acknowledging the issue?
    4. Why there is no working around provided in the forums for this issue?
    Could anybody please help me understanding this problem? I am really frustrated.
    Thanks.

    Happy New to all as well!
    You are absolutely correct! The moment reporting is activated, the EXIT no longer functions. Although in my case, we are not using the time/slider bar but custom navigation buttons with an exit button on the last slide (and at the top of each slide).
    This whole EXIT button issue (not just Cp 5 but Cp 6 as well) is nearly bringing me to the point of tears! This is really ridiculous! I am in a tough position right now where my manager may be wondering if I am right person for this job because I cannot make a little EXIT button work in our lessons.
    "Solutions" or excuses that I have received
    - Just remove the EXIT button -- No, we use a standard corporate template which hundreds of employees are already familiar with. To remove the EXIT button and instruct the learner to just close the browser would be unacceptable and a rather inelegant way to exiting a lesson.
    - It is a tough issue that isn't Captivate's fault
      With all due respect to the awesome person who keeps stating that, I have a feeling that you have not used other rapid elearning tools. Building an EXIT button in all the other major elearning tools is easy and works every time.
    The source of my personal difficulty is that every other course that was built by previous developers (not using Captivate), all open in a child window and all have a working EXIT button.
    I believe the PRIMARY reason for this problem might be in the fact that... inexplicably... Captivate does not offer an option to start a lesson in a CHILD window (i.e. separate browser window). This is why no javascript in the world will allow the tab to close (e.g. EXIT button). Closing a tab or browser window via javascript only works when the same instance was previously opened by a script using the window.open method. In other words, you can only use the javascript method to close an instance that was spawned via javascript.
    This should explain why lessons published in Lectora (et al) always have working EXIT buttons every time and in every browser (minor exception is Opera for unrelated reasons).
    The second red box is just another one of my problems with Captivate 6 (not related to this topic).
    Solution????
    I've been racking my brain trying to modify Captivate's HTML/javascript in order to carry over the AICC (or SCORM - same process) variables into a child window.
    Like another participant stated, you can't simply rename the original index.html to index2.html and create a redirection like this:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    window.open("index2.html","lesson","location=0,toolbar=0,status=0,resizable=1,width=975,he ight=600");</script>
    <body>
    Yes, I tried this as well... but unfortunately, it breaks the AICC to LMS connection. *BUT* I can promise one thing... using the above redirection, does guarantee that your EXIT button works every time! Pity the LMS connection breaks!
    QUESTION?
    Does anyone have advanced knowledge of javascript in order to code the INDEX.HTML to open the lesson in a child windows AND maintain a connection to the LMS?

  • Cp6 - Have I reached the 'limits' of what can be done with Captivate?

    Earlier, I wrote about a crashing problem with Captivate: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1140677
    But it seems that the extra slides I have added have brought Captivate down to being so slow, it is unusable.
    To get to the bottom of what is causing the problem; I started by hiding about 1/2 the slides and then publish, everything work... the course is responsive. Then I unhide a few more, publish again, and repeat. What I am noticing is that the responsiveness gradually becomes slower and slower.
    At 22 slides, the course is already beginning to show some sluggishness; at 40 slides, the course is impossible to run (see my above listed thread).
    What the heck is going on? This is unacceptable!
    Have I done something wrong along the way? Is anyone else out there using Captivate to build full self-paced training?
    I still need to insert another 15 slides before this course is complete but seem to have hit a roadblock!
    I have also tested externalizing much of the content but that had zero affect!
    Any advice?
    BTW:
    - Total size of project folder (components are externalized): about 5MB
    - The course is self-paced, meaning that I use custom FORWARD/BACK button for navigation. I am not using a skin with a playbar.
    - I have very few animations/aka Effects
    Thank you,
    Shawn

    Thank you for your reply Andy.
    (BTW- if you notice any weirdness in my reply - I am on my iPhone and mobile Safari isn't entirely compatible with this forum)
    I agree, it isn't the number of slides that is the problem but perhaps it is the type of slide. I have 10 min video simulations of well over 100 slides that function perfectly.
    However, this is my first time building an entire course in Captivate and I have noticed a trend in the course slowing down which each addition to the content.
    Because this is self-paced with custom nav buttons (no playbar), each slide button controls pause at 2 sec (unless there is an Effect on the slide and more time is required). Typically, each of the 30-40 slides is between 2-4 seconds.
    The learners can only jump to a specific slide via the TOC.
    IMPORTANT NOTE: when I posted this message, there was a 6 second delay from clicking a nav button and the next slide appearing. However, since deleting 9 Smart Shapes (that acted as a topic menus that allowed the learner to jump to specific topics) - I have since replaced these Smart Shapes with simple bullets and all Jump To's removed. As a result, the unacceptable 6 second delay is reduced to about 2.5 seconds. Still not good but a significant improvement.
    I have no audio but I do have inserted SWF software simulations. It is important to point out that removal of the sims had no affect on the responsiveness.
    The poor responsiveness spans all tested systems both from with Captivate and as a published SWF (with and without externalizing resources).
    Hosted on AICC LMS but in this situation, not relevant.  :)
    Thanks for your advice.

  • Interactive Captivate simulations not working correctly in Presenter

    Hi,
    I'm looking for a fix for what appears to be a bug with
    importing interactive Captivate 2.0.0 (build 1177, originally a
    trial verson) files into Presenter 6.0.432 (in PowerPoint 2000 SP-3
    9.0.8952 on a Windows XP computer).
    The course works fine when I publish the Presenter file to My
    Computer, but doesn't work correctly when I publish to Adobe
    Connect (hosted version). What happens is that the interactive
    Captivate simulations are already done. (It seems like Presenter is
    somehow completing the simulations before the end user gets to
    those slides.)
    Each course I've created is approximately 40 slides in length
    with approximately eight Captivate demonstrations and eight
    Captivate simulations spread out through the course. (A few slides
    of content with voiceover, then a slide with a Captivate
    demonstration, then a slide with a Captivate simulation slide, etc.
    etc.)
    Captivate Project Preferences are set to:
    Advanced project compression
    508 compliance
    Compress compiled SWF file
    Publish Adobe Connect Enterprise metadata
    Captivate Publish settings are:
    (unchecked) Export HTML
    Flash Player 7
    I tried switching the Flash Version to Flash Player 8, but it
    didn't help at all, and instead caused an additional problem which
    was that the text entry part of the interactive simulations stopped
    working altogether.
    I'm inclined to think this is a problem with the Connect
    server (since the course runs fine when published to My Computer,
    just not when published to Adobe Connect), but suppose it could be
    a Captivate or Presenter issue. In any case, I'm open to whatever
    gets it fixed.
    Thanks,
    Ruth

    Thanks Art,
    I tried it, but it didn't help.
    Given TechNote #46b77621 (recommending people link to
    Captivate files rather than embed them in Presenter), and the
    problems I'm having, I'm starting to wonder if this is a known
    problem.
    If it is, it's a big one, as a major selling point of
    Presenter has been that you can embed Captivate files within the
    slides. Linking out to them would be a different experience for the
    end-user (and not as nice).
    Another problem is that the TechNote says text entries won't
    work in Captivate files embedded in Presenter (I have had some
    inconsistent issues with this). Serious feature problem if it's
    true. (As I'm sure you know, it's a very common aspect of computer
    training courses, which is what many people are using
    Presenter/Captivate for.)
    Hopefully this all gets sorted out sooner rather than later.
    (Or you never know, perhaps, hopefully, there's just something I'm
    missing. :))
    Thanks,
    Ruth
