Adobe's "Premier Pro CC: Classroom in a Book"

I'm trying to learn Adobe's Premiere Pro using Premier Pro CC: Classroom in a Book. The problem that I am having is discussed on Page 3 of the book, relinking files.  I am unable, after following the instructions, to link the lesson files to to Premier Pro.  Can someone explain how I can do this?

  • Premier Pro CS6, Classroom in a Book....Lesson Files, Help Please.

Hello everyone, new guy on the block here and having problems.
I recently purchased Premier Pro CS6 software and the accompanying book mentioned in my posts title above.
I am trying to work through the book and the associated projects but keep coming up against the dreaded Offline Files problem....that has seemingly been the bug bear of others in the past.
I have read a few posts here of others experiencing the same but still can't seem to solve the problem and it's really starting to bug me.
I downloaded the DVD contents and saved them to my HD in my Adobe CS6 folder as instructed in the book but no media files transfer over during the import into CS6, the shells/wrappers are there but no content, each wrapper say's that the Media is Offline.
So I then go to the location where the files are saved to which is - Libraries, Documents, Adobe, Premier Pro, 6.0, Lessons and then go to the corresponding Lesson file and dbl click and upon opening there seems to be nothing there ??
Can anyone give some guidance as to where I'm going wrong ?
    Many Thanks & Best Wishes
    Harmudge.

Hi Jeff, the actual media content is not available in the Project panel although the wrappers of the files are showing with a question mark in the thumbnail.
I then went to the media browser and located the file 16B_SER5...which I was using incidently because the question marked thumbnail icon was present for that file in the Project Panel, and imported....it copied the file/footage over but not into the already present wrapper, it created another thumbnail....should that happen like that or should it fill the already present wrapper ?
So I then try and link the playable media file by right clicking on the thumbnail, but that option is greyed out in the menu for that file.
I then checked the un-playable media file that I mention above and the option to link media is available for that so I tried that but seem to get nowhere.
I get a windows explorer box come up and then go to my Adobe files in my documents (where the DVD contents are) and go to Lessons, Assets, Double Identity, P2 Media, Contents....I then have 6 folders to choose from, I have looked in the Clip file and it is blank until I change the file type selection that is near the bottom right in the explorer window from P2 Movie (mxf) to all files and then there are files available but the files are ending XML and XMP.
I have then checked the contents of the Video folder and there were MXF files available under the P2 Movie selection but the file numbers do not correspond with the files that I am looking for ?
I then change the Windows Explorer file search to All Files and files with corresponding file numbers are now present but the files are ending in .pek, I then select the 16B_SER5 48000.pek file and then get an Adobe dialogue box come up informing me that File Import Failure, file format not supported.
I hope you were able to follow what I have been trying to explain above, I'm sure it's fairly evident that I am not a computer whizz kid so if you require me to take screenshots etc to clarify what I'm doing I can manage that....lol.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 classroom in a book lesson files "file format not supported" error message

Hey y'all. I have the creative Suite cloud membership and am learning Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and have the latest update. I have an iMac, version 10.8.2 and have been going through the lessons 1-8 so far from the 'Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 Classroom in a book' with no problems. So far so good. Then, when I opened Lesson 9 project today, I realized that certain media was off line (see pic below-videos and maps) even though I had been able to open the project. I tried to see if it was a link issue but was unable to select the 'Link Media' option and the system did not give me the option to link media when opening a new project. The strange thing is that I am now able to open some lessons with everything working fine but when I try to open other lessons such as lesson 9 or 10 or 11 I notice media files offline after getting the "file format not supported" pop-up error message when attempting to open a project. It's random as some lessons I had opened previously now give this error message of file format not supported when they didn't in the past whilst others work. I have deleted all the lesson files from my hard drive and reinstalled them from the cd onto my hardrive but the issue persists. Any idea as to why all of a sudden Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 is giving the error message "File format not supported"??? when opening the lessons. I have not changed any preferences. I've included some screenshots though I don't know how much help they will be... Is anyone else running into this issue??? Can anyone help???
NEVERMIND. I FOUND OUT ON MY OWN WHAT THE ISSUE WAS AND IS NOW FIXED. YAY!

Why were you trying to link a file in the project to the project file itself? Shouldn't it be a video file or something? Like .mov .wav .avi .mp4 and not .prproj

  • I have downloaded adobe premier pro cs4 to my mac book pro. How do I now install and open it?

I have downloaded adobe premier pro cs4 to my mac book pro. I have the serial number. I purchased it in 2010. I have a new system and I want to transfer the license to this system. how do i now install and open it?

Sounds like you've downloaded the OS X version of the game, which won't run on iOS devices. You need either this version <https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/angry-birds-star-wars/id557137623?mt=8> or this version <https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/angry-birds-star-wars-free/id578915438?mt=8> for your iPod Touch.
The versions for iPad are <https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/angry-birds-star-wars-hd/id557138109?mt=8> and <https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/angry-birds-star-wars-hd-free/id578909807?mt=8>.
Remember, all apps for your iPad or iPod Touch must be purchased through the iTunes App Store. You can do this directly on the devices by tapping App Store and searching for what you want.

  • Free Excerpts from Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 Classroom in a Book

    Hi Guys,
I just posted a new blog with links to excerpts from the Adobe Premiere Pro Classroom in a Book. Along with the excerpts are links to the pertinent topics in Help. These links should clear up any confusion you may come across as you work through the excerpts.
If you are new to Adobe Premiere Pro or are switching from another NLE, I can highly recommend this book. The links to the excerpts are here on my blog.
By the way, at the bottom of the blog post are links to free excerpts for Adobe After Effects, including video tutorials.

Adobe is getting better all the time, should  have been easy to read 5 years ago, it does give you more confidence.
    Thanks

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 Classroom in a Book

Anyone know what the story is with this book? Every online retailer seems to have pulled it off the shelf. Amazon had a notice on their page for it that said something to the effect that "there is a pending issue with this product".
Now I can only find overpriced used copies. Weird.
    Anyone know?

  • I have the Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 "Classroom in a Book" but my computer says "File Format is not Supported" when I try to use accompanying DVD. What is wrong please, I really like the book and want to learn!

I've had the product for a while and have tried editing without the book and using video's but it goes slow and I don't feel like I'm learning.
I'm sure there are shortcuts to be had and I'm re-inventing the wheel it seems.
"File Format not supported" means exactly what? Is my Windows Version not compatible?
Not used to chat rooms, would prefer personal training but that is not the way of things anymore.

Okay, so I Right Click and nothing says "Link Media".
When I double click on an asset it says, "the selected file cannot be linked because it has 2 audio channel(s) and the clip was created with 1 audio channel(s)."
However 1 video clip asset does open in CS4.
The "Lesson One" project itself says, "file format not supported." still.

  • Why is the font Garamond Premier Pro bought through Adobe different than the website?

    Hello,
I really liked the font from Adobe, Garamond Premier Pro and I purchased it, hoping to get great documents but unfortunately, it does not look crisp even if I put the size at 14, put it in bold... It looks completely different than the demo and I don't know why it looks the way it does.
I've attached a Word document which represent the way it looks. Hopefully you will see what I mean.
    Thank you,
    Nancie Bolduc

    fbuerg,
You are welcome. Glad my good fortune was helpful to you.

  • New Premier Pro User Introduction and Comments

Just wanted to introduce myself as I plan to be a frequent reader and hopefully contributor to this forum and in the hope that a few of the comments below will be useful.
First, to show my age, I began video editing back in the early 1990's with the Amiga and the Video Toaster.  Later I began editing in Vegas Pro and Edius. In 2007 I largely left the PC platform for Macs, and almost immediately purchaed Final Cut Pro which I have used as my NLE on an eight core (2.8 GHz) 3.1 Mac Pro equipped with a 2 TB Raid 0 array of SATA drives as well as an external Raid 5 8TB SATA system for backups.  Although video editing is just a hobby for me, I am serious about it and feel fairly competent in FCP.
With the arrival of the MPE and 64-bit support for Adobe's Premier Pro, I was attracte to trying this editing package which I had obtained in a purchase of the Production Premium package for the Mac. When I received the PP package a few months ago, I installed all the software and briefly tried PP and the other software components in the package but I did not do any serious projects with PP at that time.
Recently, I was involved in video recording a three camera shoot of a piano concert given in my home by my pinao teacher.  We used two HDV cameras and my Canon 5D Mark II for the video and an Edirol R-09HR recorder optimally placed for recroding my Yamaha grand piano. I wanted to do a multicamera edit of the one hour concert, but I found this possible but very contorted to do in FCP (with the assistance of PlurarEyes for synching the externally recorded audio with the video).  It was at that point that I became serious about learning and using PP CS5.
To get into PP CS5 in the fastest possible manner, I purchased the Learn by Video series on PP CS5 presented by Maxim Jago and Jan Ozer.  I feel this is an outstnading video tutorial on using PP CS5.  I also decided to upgrade the video card in my Mac Pro 3.1 from the Ati 2600XT card (which does not support the MPE with CUDA) with the nVidia GTX 285 which does. I was able to purchase a new overclocked GTX 285 on eBAy and installed it in my Mac Pro.  I also purchsed PluralEyes for PP for synching the external audio in PP.
My experience with this rather large multi-camera project hs been excellent.  Not one crash in many hours of work on the project!  The GTX 285 easily handles rela time playback with no dropped frames in the timeline.  I am impressed with the ease of doing a multi-camera edit in PP CS5 and in general very pleased iwth the program.  The most difficult thing I have had to adjust to is the difference between PP CS5 and FCP in terms of getting video and audio into the timeline where I want it in PP.  It's not difficult to do, but just sufficiently different that I found the PP CS5 video tutorials that I had purchased very useful in learning how to move video and audio around and patch to precise locations in PP.
Well, enough for now.  I have much yet to do to complete this multicamera project, but I have been actively monitoring this forum for months now and simply wanted to say thanks for all I have learned here as well as to just say "hello".
    Tom

just took me a while to find it as I don't think I have ever even visited the Video Lounge.
    Tom,
Now that you have discovered our "little secret," do not be a stranger. We're a pretty loose, but friendly crew around the forum - both in the Lounge and out in the technical product forum.
Though some technical "stuff" does get posted here, one is usually better off in the product forum, as more users will see the post. Now, "technical" is a slightly abstract term. We've had mic. options explored here, camera options, and of course snakes. When the technical aspect gets to Adobe products, then the main fora are obviously the best locations.
There is also the Hardware sub-forum, and it's great for technical discussions on hardware. Most of that discussion revolves around using Adobe products on said computer, but a lot is general computer talk and questions.
If the discussion gets to authoring DVD/BD, then the Encore Forum is the right place, even though Encore now only ships with PrPro. One reason to break things off there is that some Encore gurus do not hang out here. Considering your audio background, one such individual is Neil Wilkes, the Encore audio-guru. He seldom shows up in the PrPro fora, but is usually not that far away in the Encore forum.
That's just a little breakdown of these fora.
Enjoy PrPro, and thanks for the intro and the thoughts,
    Hunt

  • Want to use Premier Pro and After Effects but don't want to buy CC

I have CS6 Design/Web Premium standalone edition and want to add Adobe CS6 Premier Pro and CS6 After Effects Standalone to the group.
I've downloaded the trial versions of Premier pro and After Effects to get me past this recent job issue, but I may need to purchase it after the trial runs out.
If the job I've got pending does not pan out I'll go back to using Final Cut X and Motion.
But if it does pan put I'll want to buy the standalone versions as I'm not into Hacking and Kracks.
I do not like the idea or want to "upgrade" to CC so please no suggestions about this.
Any clues. For some reason I'm not able to ask Adobe directly as they do not appear to supply and email address to be contacted, and I'm now on this forum sharing my questions to the community.
Anyone out there with an idea to help in this regard?

    Hi,
You can buy standalone Premiere Pro and After Effects CS6 from the below link:-

  • Title templates in Premier Pro CC?

There don't seem to be any title templates in my new Premier Pro CC
I have also installed CS6 PP as I want the Encore program - the templates are loaded in that version.

Firstly, thanks for staying with me Jeff!
    Ok
    1.       Next tried selecting ‘C:\Users\Geoff\Desktop\Adobe CS6\Premiere Pro Family Content Installers’ as the destination and clicked ‘Next.
    2.       Click ‘Finish’
    3.       Folder opens called Adobe CS6 – Premier Pro Family Content Installers
    4.       Click ‘Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 Functional Content’ option
    5.       Click ‘Set-up’ in the next folder
    6.       ‘Adobe Installer’ runs – Licence Agreement window opens – click ‘Accept’
    7.       Window called ‘Options’ appears.
    8.       There is one ‘option’ (you can’t have just ONE option!!) – ‘Adobe Premier Pro CS6 Function Cont…’
    9.       Select above ‘option’ and click ‘Install’
    10.   Accept ‘changes to computer’ warning.
    11.   Window called ‘Installation Complete’ with three hyperlinks – the membership page/My Adobe page/Video Tutorials and a ‘Close’ button.
    12.   Click ‘Close’
    13.   Nothing happens – titles still not present in my Premier Pro CC
I am paying a lot of money each month to buy this incomplete product, I do not believe that I should have to go through this, to me complicated, routine. I believe that the program should be delivered complete to my desktop – it is not.
In order to obtain ‘Adobe Encore’, as I still make DVDs for people, I had to load (free of charge I admit) the CS6 suite of programs, Premier Pro CS6 was included in this suite – complete with the ‘Title Templates’ fully loaded.

  • Adobe LR4 Classroom in a Book on sale for $10 this week

If this has already been posted, I apologize.
Adobe Press put the LR4 Classroom in a Book on its Weekly Special.  It really is $10, because they are not charging for freight.  The book is normally $40.
As a bonus, at the end of the purchase price, is a link to 3 eBook formats.  I elected to download the .pdf because it will be a great searchable reference.
    Bill

Okay, that worked. Now, were you able to download the Lesson Files? As per Page 369 (or maybe it's 386).
The print version of this Title comes with a disc of lesson files, As an eBook reader, you have access to these files by folowing the steps below:
    1. On your PC or Mac, open a web browser and go to this URL:
    www.peachpit.com/ebookfiles/0132945673
2, Download the ZIP file (or files) from the web site to your hard drive.

  • Problem with Classroom in a book

I have been working through the lessons in Adobe Premier Elements 11 Classroom in a book and am having a problem with Lesson 6 "Creating a Picture-in-Picture overlay.  the lesson comes with Greenscreen.mov file to be used in the lesson but when I try to use it I get the error message in a pop up "This type of file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed.  As this is the file downloaded from the CD that came with the book and can't understand why I am having a problem using it.

    Ermananda
It appears that my first impression of your situation was correct, that is, another Classroom in a Book corrupt/damaged lesson file as confirmed by nealeh's detailed post numbered 5.
You may want to bookmark this thread and the link to the publisher since you may run into other corrupt/damaged files are you proceed through the book's lessons.
    Regarding what you wrote
As a further note I went on to lesson 7 creating transitions.  You start by openning Lesson07_Start_Win.prel.  It tells me to open the file Lesson07_Movie.mov in the project assets panel and to open and play it in the preview window.  When I do that the greenscreen.mov that I could not open in lesson 6 appears to be running in the preview mode but maybe that is because the whold clip is done together as a completed mov file??
That might be explained by nealeh's report that the greenscreen.mov exists in more than one place.
The following is the link to the Premiere Elements 12 Help PDF. You might want to cross check with it as you go through your book's lessons.

Give the keyframing another look. If problems with the concept and its working through, please let us know and we can provide some step by step information on that.
Glad for the opportunity to be of assistance. Please do not hesitate to ask if you need any help with your Premiere Elements workflows.
    Thanks.

  • CS5 Classroom in a Book Delayed AGAIN

Amazon just sent me a notice that Premiere Pro CS5 Classroom in a Book is delayed again
The new "possible" date is somewhere between Sept 8th to the 14th
I will HOPE this means that the author(s) are working with Adobe to document the latest program features

You know, Curt needs to give up any hope a "real life," and get busy!!! He has buyers clamoring.
    Hunt
PS - it's probably all completely written, and Adobe Press is the holdup here. At least that's my guess.

  • How do I set up a film-making classroom using premier pro?

I'm revamping my classroom. I've been using final cut, but that platform doesn't provide the model I need for preparing students anymore with their new versions final cut X. I teach students the Hollywood style of film-making and need a platform that mimics the professional standard. I'm using macs and want to teach with premier pro since it has the right interface for the job. How do I get a version I can use when it appears that adobe is going all out cloud? Will cloud suffice for my macs in a classroom environment? I'm wanting about three to five computers to have the software for students to access.

CS6 is perpetual license (one time purchase) but is 3+ years old, so may not work with newer cameras
