Adobe's System / Hardware requirements

As I have mentioned for years, and with many Adobe Products, they need to get "real" with regard to minimum requirements.
OK, so Adobe will sell a couple fewer units, BUT think about the units that they do sell, to the poor folk at the lower-end, who then find that PrPro will not edit, PS will not work, etc.
When I mention a 3x SATA HDD setup on the PrE forum, the users cite that the min. is stated as an 80GB EDIE, or similar. Yeah right. Like that will allow more than just the installation of the program. Import a 15 min. DV-AVI, and you are hosed! Adobe, which I love, needs to get real, and temper the Marketing-types here. They need to be made to listen to the engineers, and change these specs.

Regarding the sentiment that we need to "get real" about the system requirements:
I think that that message is getting through. I'd even say that it got most of the way through for CS5, and you can see the evidence in many places (just not all) where system requirements are discussed.
Take for example this page, which gives different requirements for different levels of performance:
http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/production/performance/
I may have broken that down differently myself, but I hope that you can see that it's a step in the right direction.
Hi Todd,
Please look at the following ad by Dell for its Precision workstations.

It comes with 1 GB ram, 256MB ATI FireMV® 2260, 2MON, 2 DP w/ 1 DP to DVI Adapter, ONE 250GB SATA 3.0Gb/s with NCQ and 8MB DataBurst  Cache™, etc.
Certainly it can be imporoved by "Customizing", but considering that Dell touts Adobe (and specifically Adobe CS5) as being a a system ISV-Certified partner, shouldn't Adobe require Dell to offer by a simple click of an icon, at least a minimum system that will actually run Adobe CS5 and Adobe Premiere CS5 (the above link came from a full page ad on the back cover of a Video magazine.)
Since CS5 has some very serious hardware requirements, I feel Adobe must be on the CUSTOMER's side when it comes to its partners using its Trademarked named products -- and not rely on the "good will" of the sales people who pick up the phone at its ISV-Certified hardware partners who may or may not have the knowledge (or desire) to ensure that the machine they sell will actually run Adobe CS5, and specifically Adobe Premere CS5.

    Hi Guru's,
Can anyone of you explain me what exactly the system H/W requirement for Installing Oracle 11gR2 Grid Infrastructure along with Oracle RAC.
    I already have 8GB RAM,i3 Processor.

If you like to install RAC on vmware, this 8gb memory enough. you can allocate 2gb for one node and also other. So total 4GB enough for RAC installation.

  • Hardware Requirements for Android Adobe Air Installation or certification requirement?

    Hi, Friends,
I am newbie on Adobe Air and tried to install Air apk on my android ICS device from Google Play.
However, it complains that the device is not compatible with the software package.
I wonder if there are any hardware requirements or certification requirement for new android phone device on the market.
    Regards
    -Charles

Well, my theory is it only works on 4g phones, at least with Metro PCS phones!
Using the following 3g phones, I got "device is not compatible"
    - Hawai ascend  OS  (3g)  ~incompatible
    - HTC (3g) ~incompatible
    - Samsung Admire (3g) ~incompatible
But after buying my $300+ 4g LG phone, also from Metro PCS, the Adobe AIR installed sucessfully.
Also, I as fyi, noticed that Adobe Air app did not show up in the Google play list on the 3g phones.
    I hope this info helps.

  • Hardware requirements to setup high available SOA system on production env

    Hi All,
Can anyone tell me the recommended hardware requirements to setup a highly available SOA system on production machine?
    Thanks
    Jahangir

We have a 2 managed servers setup in 2 different VMs (SuSe Linux )
The minimum recommended hardware and system configuration requirements for each VM on which Oracle SOA Suite, Oracle Service Bus, Oracle BAM
    components are installed is:
    •     4 CPU Cores; each with a clock speed of 1.5 GHz or greater
    •     8 GB RAM (Physical Memory)
    •     Disk Space: 50 GB SAN Disk Space on each VM
Please note we have separate domain for all three components. Typically JVM size is 1GB for admin server and 2GB for managed servers. With this configuration, the memory usage is always around 90%.. If you want to reduce the memory usage %, you may have to increase the RAM size..

    Hi,
I would suggest you to perform the sizing activity based on your requirements,  whether you would be using the entire self-services package or just selected services out of it. the hardware requirements are based on many factors. Have a look at these documents:

  • "Adobe InDesign is missing required files. Please reinstall."

    Hi EveryOne !
"Adobe InDesign is missing required files. Please reinstall. Missing files: \Program Files\Common FIles\Adobe\TypeSupport\...\CP1252.TXT" This is the message I keep receiving on CS5.5 of InDesign.
I am running InDesign CS5.5 North American, English, with updates on my WinXP SP3 machine. Local copy, no network server. Yes, I might possibly need a newer machine, or a newer desk, or to reinstall WinXP to fix this one problem, but everything other than InDesign CS5.5 still runs great and I feel no compelling reason to make system-wide changes or upgrade until Win8 has been thoroughly tested and new hardware is released and tried and true for that OS.
So, last year, I received the same message and reinstalling didn't work either. So, I pried everything Adobe off of my computer and reinstalled Adobe PageMaker 7.x. But now I am compelled by my co-workers to use ID, which I have grown to love. I have no desire or $ to upgrade to ID6 but must make use of the ID 5.5. I don't want to uninstall PageMaker as we still use it for legacy projects and it has been a faithful companion to me since it was called Aldus Pagemaker.
My question: what is causing these messages and why does re-installation not help ? If there is a system problem, why is only CS5.5 affected and not my PageMaker and Quark ? I have searched the web and found only related posts (with no responses relevant to me) for users of Apple products.
Thank you in advance for any information that you may be able to provide.

  • The Moon Worm - Infects Home Routers - Shows Fake "Adobe Flash Critical Update Required" Message

    Greetings,
This morning we had numerous workstations pop up with an Adobe Flash error.  The browser will be taken over by an Adobe Flash Critical Update Required page and won't let the browser go to any other internet site.  Within the page, a box will pop up that says:  "Attention!  your current version of Adobe Flash Player is outdated!  Your computer is vulnerable to malware now.  Update your Adobe Flash player now."
This message pops up on IE Explorer version 9-11, Google Chrome and Firefox and the operating systems are Windows XP Pro and Windows 7 pro.  It has all the behavior of a virus or malware so I don't want to run it's download file which is named install_flashplayer_12_x32_64_msaa_aax_latest.exe.
I've been able to download both flash player installs from the Adobe.com site for both IE and Other Browsers.  Sometimes I've been able to run the installs and it shows that the download and install ran okay with Adobe Flash Player 12 ActiveX showing up in the installed programs list.  Other times, the install won't run and the install file mysteriously gets deleted.  Even after the successful download and install, the browser works briefly okay and then gets seized by the "Critical Update Required" page again.
We're running AVG Anti-Virus Business Edition which is kept updated.  A scan with this program and an updated version of Malwarebytes isn't showing any viruses or malware that could cause this problem.
What can I do to get rid of this "Critical Update Required" problem and get our browsers working again?
    Thanks.
    Bill J., Lexington, KY

I have a Cisco E3000 Wireless N Router. I was having the issue accross OSX and Windows. This thread was a big help, but when I tried to get the latest firmware from Cisco I found the download link was no lnger present. I chatted with their support and obtained the following info if it helps anyone:
"Linksys is aware of the malware called “The Moon” that has affected select older Linksys E-Series routers and select older Wireless-N access points and routers. The exploit to bypass the admin authentication used by the worm only works when the Remote Management Access feature is enabled. Linksys ships these products with the Remote Management Access feature turned off by default."
" If you have not enabled the Remote Management Access feature of the router, you are not susceptible to this specific malware. If you have enabled the Remote Management Access feature, we can prevent further vulnerability to your network by disabling the Remote Management Access feature and rebooting your router to remove the installed malware. Linksys will be working on the affected products with a firmware fix that is planned to be posted on our website in the coming weeks."
"What we can do to fix this issue is to make sure that the router's security settings is enabled and the remote management is disabled."
"Ensure that the Filter Anonymous Internet Requests on the Security Page is enabled."
"The next step would disconnect us from the session. We need to reboot the router to clear the cache."
"According to the system, your product is already outside the complimentary assisted support period. I’d just like to inform you that we normally charge a fee for supporting this type of issue,
but since we’re seeing a potential hardware problem with the product, we’ll be extending complimentary support just this one time."
"We also need to upgrade the Firmware. However, the Firmware for this router is no longer available for download. Disabling the remote management on your router and securing it would help fix the issue."
I did find the latest firmware for the E3000 here: http://www.userdrivers.com/LAN-Network-Adapter/Linksys-E3000-Wireless-N-Router-Firmware-Up date-1-0-04-build-6/download/

  • Client Hardware Requirements - Portal Usage

    Hi everyone,
is there a guideline what is the minimal/recommended hardware requirement for a Client PC. So it is able to access SAP NetWeaver 7.0 Portal.
Maybe more detailed than "Every Modern PC"
Is there an official SAP statement regarding this?
    Regards
    M. Stanka

    Hi Michael...
    System Requirements :
    Operating System:
Windows 2000 (Service Pack 3); Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 1) or Windows Server 2003
    NTFS-File systems
Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher or Firefox 1.0 or higher
At least 1 GB RAM, 2 GB are recommended
Intel Pentium III/1.1 GHz or higher (or compatible)
14 GB free hard disk space (8.6 GB for the installed software and 4,9 GB for the installer software)
    High-resolution monitor (1024x768 or higher, 256 colors)
Sun Microsystems J2SE SDK version 1.4.2_08 or 1.4.2_09 (Sun JDK 1.5 not tested)
Please navigate to J2SE SDK version 1.4.2_09 installation archive site if you need to install this software.
If you have already installed SAP products on your computer, you must ensure that none of the systems are called "J2E".
The file C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc\services (Windows 2000) or C:\Windows\system\32\drivers\etc\services (Windows XP) must not include an entry for the ports 3601, 3201 and 50100 to 50130. A possible entry can be excluded by using the hash symbol (#).
If no DHCP server is available on your network (which dynamically determines the IP address) or your computer is not connected to any network, you need to install the virtual interface adapter MS Loopback Adapter.
To use Interactive Forms based on Adobe software, you must install the necessary credential file and activate it using a unique password.
Download the latest credential and password from SDN.
If necessary, install the SUN J2SE SDK version 1.4.2_09.
    Thanks....

  • Hardware requirements for FMS

    Hello,
I work on a project where FMS will be used as the main streaming server. We are going to use p2p/multicast technology which is available in FMS. My first question is : What are the approximate hardware requirements for such a server ? REMARK : this server will be connected to a switch with 1G/bits ports
If we use p2p/multicast technology the maximal number of users which the system can handle is (theoretically)unlimited, is this right ? or I miss something ?
    Thank you

    Hi,
Thanks for your interest in FMS and multicast.
The generic system requirements for FMS (which includes multicast) is given @ http://www.adobe.com/products/flashmediainteractive/systemreqs/
    And @ http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/869/cpsid_86913.html
Yes, as you mentioned, the maximum limit of users in unlimited for p2p, technically.

  • "Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro requires Internet Explorer 6.0 or greater"

Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro requires Internet Explorer 6.0 or greater is the error that jumps up when I try installing it. Currently this system is running Internet Explorer 7 which is installed at it's default location. Any clues what can have gone wrong?
    Version 7.0.5730.13
    Build 75730
Program path C:\Program\Internet Explorer (Swedish computer)
    Language Engelska (USA)

I came upon this post after receiving this error message when trying to install Acrobat 9. In my case, we deploy Acrobat from an Administrative Installation Point (AIP) using Group Policy. I believe the user at this computer pulled the plug while the group policy deployment was taking place. I got the error when trying to install the program manually afterwards.
I was able to rectify the issue by running msiexec.exe against the MSI in the AIP with the /x switch, performing an uninstall:
    msiexec /x \\server\deploy\AcrobatStandard9\acrostan.msi
(The program was not showing up in Add/Remove programs, otherwise I would have tried uninstalling from there.) After that, the install proceeded successfully.
    Hope this helps someone.

The requirements depend on the operating system and the database used for the installation.
Go to http://service.sap.com/instguides -> SAP Netweaver -> Release 04 -> Installation -> SAP Web AS -> SAP Web AS 6.40 SR1 and Related Documentation -> Choose your database (Ex: Oracle ) -> Planning and Preparation -> Select SAP Web AS ABAP for Windows.
Look at Page 37, minimum RAM is 1 GB (because XI is Unicode), ABAP system 25GB.
You should check the same for Web AS Java also.
    one more small thought...
You also need to find the how the end user will access your system. In case an end user access outside of the LAN (say via WAN or dial-up) using https, it will have additional requirements for your hardware as you will need compression enabled for improved response time for WAN. Adding compression or SSL may add additional hardware if you based your sizing based on LAN.
And also One easy approach is after you define your test case, run some load test on your QA/Staging system. Use the load test data and find out the hardware requirements based on load test. If your requirement is larger than the staging system, you may have to take a staged approach. In that case you roll-out the system to a certain number of users and monitor the system and plan for additional users based on the monitored results.
Also for RAM memory, HDD size you can check this document:

  • How to determine the hardware requirements based on the Services' payload

    hello,Guys
i am wondering if i can calculate the hardware requirements based on the services' payload ?
what factors should i consider when to determine the hardware requirements?
is there any documents related to my questions? ;)
    Thanks
    Regards
    Wen

Payload size is not the only factor while determining size of the system (h/w). You need to consider number of services, nature of services (sync/async), payload size, frequency of messages (load), peak load value, security constraints, performance requirements etc..
You may contact your local Oracle Sales Representative/ Oracle Support to get help in determining size of the system. They will provide you a sizing questionarre and on the basis of that they may suggest sizing as well (Oracle has an internal tool for proposing sizing)
